Basically doubled rage eliminates the -Def (not sure why, just does). This way your defense doesn't crash (or go negative). There are times things like this can lead to a cascading defense failure.

I'd hesitate to refer to having your damage crash for a few seconds as "vulnerable". You simply aren't doing any damage with your primary powers. There are other powers though, like Sands of Mu, that still do full normal damage during the period.

The End crash can be potentially problematic for toons with End management problems too.

The question wasn't "was it ludicrous", simple was it "do-able". I'll make the answer more succinct for you.

"Yes, you CAN perma-rage with SOs, but the solution is somewhat ugly and wasteful."

    New laptop

As I've pointed out elsewhere, there are other things that could be interfering with the game as well. Usually it's UAC and or Windows Vista/7 driver model conflicts.

Here's what you can do to help reduce stuff like that.

    Head into the CoH directory.

    Find CoHUpdater.exe and CityOfHeroes.exe

    1. Right-click on the executable
    2. Select Properties
    3. Go to the compatibiltiy tab.
    4. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
    5. Make sure it says Windows XP SP3
    6. For good measure, check "Run this program as an administrator"
    7. Click OK.
If, after the driver update, and doing this you're still getting issues, try turning down User Account Control (UAC)

    1. Click on the start button
    2. Click on Help and Support
    3. In the window that comes up, type "Turn off UAC" in the search box.
    4. The first link that comes up will take you through how to get to the UAC screen.
    5. Slide the bar down another notch (and if that doesn't work, repeat these steps and slide it all the way down)
    6. Click OK.
    7. Reboot
Butt-Coverage Note: Reducing or disabling UAC can possibly compromise system security.

    Not quite true.

The 64-bit OS CAN have a higher memory footprint. Granted, it's not utilizing double, or even half-again as much memory as 32-bit, it does use slightly more due to the increased size of the binaries being used and stored in memory, as well as the increased bit-depth of the cached data. However, the actual extra amount used is fairly trivial in all save a few cases.

At most, you're usually talking the difference of a few megabytes of memory.

One question though... Why do they seem to have no problem handling any sort of modern game right now (Crysis, UTIII, etc., etc.), if they're that bad for gaming? I thought that if they could handle something like Crysis, which is notorious for system bog-down, then I could handle a "higher graphics mode" for CoH...

    Guess I was wrong.

    "Alien"

It's not so much that they're "bad" for gaming. Simply that the hardware and software have been optimized for accurate final-pass rendering rather than first-pass like you see in a lot of games. They're for applications where the final product has to be RIGHT, PERIOD. If a certain frame out of umpty-bajillion in CoH has a blown pixel or texture someplace, no biggie, it's gone in under a second.

As it is, your card is probably dealing with just the stuff it's drivers know how to handle (DX7/8/9, OGL2.0, etc) and just ignoring directives from anything else. So it's giving you acceptable performance because the image is degraded.

If, as Je_Saist suspects, they're leveraging OGL 3.0 for CoH, you're going to get mostly identical performance in CoH simply because it's not rendering the Going Rogue graphical enhancements. At worst, your performance will fall off because it's having to spend time discarding commands that the hardware and drivers won't support.

Oh. They'll probably work. Your performance will just be less than the hardware-equivalent GeForce card.

I don't think that's quite true anymore. I think that if the mission is completed and the captain pulls the next mission, they get ejected.
  10. Hey, one thing.

I know we're trying to generate stuff. But what are the rules on selling?

Does EVERYTHING have to go to market?
Not looking at keeping stuff for myself. But if I look and there's 10 of an item for sale with no movement in 2 or more weeks and then only at prices below crafting cost?

Common sense says "vendor the ******", but I just want to get a consensus on this.
  11. Monday night the Fire/Rad superteam spent a while disintegrating Family and Snakes in AE.

One of my ticket rolls turned into a 7 million inf L14 -KB recipe. Mainly using the tickets on rolls and to keep myself in cheap enhancements.

Currently at L18 and need to slot for a bit more EndRed in Hot Feet and Enervating Field. Coming close to nice, juicy STAMINA!

Once I hit SOs, I'll probably crank to +0/x4, as better damage output and longer hold should mean I need to attack less to kill a given enemy and just let HF+EF carry them off.
  12. I'd like to be able to have a larger entrance room myself.

You always spawn into the same 2x2 room in every base.

I'd love to have a truly EPIC entrance room.
  13. I pretty much agree with Dispari.

I give them until the end of the mission.

This last weekend, I was teaming while playing at work (something I seldom do, but it was fairly dead at the time). I had someone ask me for a bit of assistance and asked for a minute.

Unfortunately, it turned into 30 with me unable to even get near my computer again to apologize and drop the team (I HATE XP leeches, and would rather be disemboweled with a knitting needle than be one myself). They completed and held me on the team until just before the next mission started (which is longer than I would have), then booted me.

I'm currently running my 40 (just hit) Traps/Ice at +1/6 and will likely be trying to +1/8 since I just capped my AoE defense and got a couple percent melee with the last three slots (six-slotted Siphon Insight). I haven't tried +2s yet.

Have a Fire/Rad in the teens at +0/x2.

I can usually handle a regular 2 man mob, but in a lot of the missions I've hit, I've been in areas with multiple groups of 2 man mobs mashed together. 4-6 guys, I can handle. 8-12 is just guaranteeing I faceplant if I can't strip off one or two guys at a time.

Weirdly enough, the Montague Castanella "Lost Savior" arc would spawn a two man mob as a single Rector. With the Golden Rings hold in addition to Char, they're cake.

It may be that it's running into something with Windows Security. Try the following.
    1. Find the game executable file.
    2. Right-Click on it and select Properties
    3. Select the Compatibility tab.
    4. Check Compatibility Mode and take XP SP3
    5. Check "run as administrator".
    6. Click OK.
If that doesn't work, you may want to turn UAC down.

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Click on Help and Support
    3. In the window that comes up type "turn off UAC" in the search box.
    4. Click through the links till you get to the UAC slider bar and slide it down.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Reboot
Note: Turning off/down UAC can potentially compromise the security of your system. </ButtCoverage>

I dunno. From some of the GW content, she's REALLY upset when it looks like she's somewhat...preoccupied by Recluse and pitches a fit when he mistakes her for Red Widow.

    Anyhoo, abso-frickin-loutely hilarious D_R.

A color slider isn't seven colors. However, the ability to choose specific hues is VERY inexact.

No. Because then those difficulty settings wouldn't work in AE. Nothing is stopping you from farming AE. Merely from exploiting it.

    Farming == Exploit

It is if you're on two different payment plans. If you're paying semi-annual for WoW and monthly for CoX, of COURSE CoX is going to cost more!
