Okay, that bites.

Hope to see you back once you get your financials under control.
We'll keep the server warm for ya.

Quote:This talk comes from a dark and fecal-smelling orifice. The minor cost of the upgrades on the back end would more than be made up for by the near complete drop in petitions and customer service calls regarding account hacking.
I don't know about you, but I've actually bought and implemented a SecureID infrastructure on in the course of my employment.
Even with all the tools provided by RSA and somebody who's set up such a system before holding your hand, the cost of implementation is NOT minor. And the cost multiplies for every additional authentication-controlled system you have to tie back to it. -

Quote:I'm really not sure where you got your definition of "ganking" from. I disagree with it entirely. My understanding of a "gank" is very much along the same lines as the urbandictionary definition listed below:
Quote:Gank: When a group of people kill a single opponent in an MMORPG. Taken to abbreviate a "gang kill"
This is City of Heroes. My tank is a gang all by himself. -
Quote:This post more or less sums up my feelings on PvP in City Of *.No. It's not a question of how it works, but rather of what kind of game it is in. RPGs, by and large, rely on preparation. They rely on having the right build, on having the right gear, on knowing the right tactics and basically on being prepared for what you are about to face. If you are prepared, you win. If you are not prepared, you go back and prepare so more. There is a VERY narrow margin of combat experience where you are NOT prepared, but you can still muscle through on the weight of sheer grit or blinding brilliance, but for the majority of the game, outcome is decided before battle even starts. And for a single-player game, that's just fine. I'm prepared to deal with my enemies and I expect them to fall before me. The AI doesn't hold grudges, and the game is designed to let me win if I push the right buttons. I don't mind, and indeed rather enjoy having the experience tailored to let me win.
Fighting against other players is a whole different kettle of fish entirely, an expression which I'm sure will make a native speaker somewhere put a reward on my head. When I fight against other people, I like for both of us to be as equal in terms of preparation as the game will possibly allow, such that the actual fight comes down to personal skill, not cheese. If someone is prepared and has a marked advantage over me, then the fight isn't going to be a lot of fun for me. Even if I win, I will still grumble, because I'm not in it to win it, I'm in it for a fun fight, which cannot happen with a handicap. If I'm prepared so that my opponent is at a severe disadvantage, then I'm still not having fun, partly because I can imagine how much it sucks for him, partly because I want a fun battle, not just to dominate. This doesn't have to mean that everyone is the SAME, but merely that everyone is given a character who is culminatively equally good. This is where balance comes in, but in an RPG, all builds will never be equally good. For that reason alone, it's a lost concept. -
The only thing of any real note is confirmation of the predicted off-market "grey market" for certain IOs whose value exceeds 2 billion inf.
-
The devs still have no way to guarantee this.
They can TRY to offset the problem by upping drop rates.
HOWEVER, ESPECIALLY for PVP IOs, the number of people desiring them is larger than the total number of people actively PVP'ing by at least one order of magnitude, if not more. As such, unless the percentage rate for drops is DRASTICALLY increased, the prices aren't going anywhere but up and off-market.
And I'm not sure the devs want to make highly valuable IOs such as those THAT common. -

Quote:It's not monetary debt, it's XP debt.I noticed I get a message that advises me i'm working off a debt!
Essentially, after you hit level 10, any time you die, you accrue a small amount of XP debt (essentially it's a "cover charge" for being resurrected at a hospital or in your SG). So, for the next few groups of badguys you fight, half the XP you accrue will be paid back as debt until the debt amount is erased.
You're not losing XP. You're simply assigned a debt that you have to repay at roughly 1/2 XP rate for a short time.
It's nothing horrendous, even when you're dying a lot (not like the bottomless pit some of the longtime vets assure me it used to be). On an 8-man team, you pay back one death's worth of debt in about 1-2 enemy mob groups.
When I'm soloing, if I die, I go back in, kill off a full group (running at +0/x3 difficulty) and I'm completely out of debt.
Partially it's a way to stop people from completely zooming through content in a few hours with no consequences. Partially it acts as a wealth buff, since it takes you longer to hit a level and you have to fight more badguys to get there, you see correspondingly more inf and drops building up.
Mostly it's so you know there IS some consequence to failure.
Again, even at debt cap (the maximum amount of debt you can accrue at one time), it's still disgustingly easy to work off.
Welcome to the game by the way. -

Quote:Please quote where you see that.Well, I've also noticed.. Excuse this post.. A lot of hostility in reaction to this thread and aimed towards me in particular, I've tried to be civil and really I refuse to lower myself to the level of flinging insults at people, bickering with them and berating them for having a differing opinion from my own.. Nay and rather, I respect them for having a differing opinion.
So you're the equivalent of an arsonist. You start a huge flaming mess and run away.Quote:With all the bad blood, though and all the anger and hostility I'm beginning to perceive from many of the posts made recently in this thread I think I'm going to quietly bow out and allow it to die away.
If you wanted DEBATE on the issue, you got it. If you were simply hoping for back-patting, "there there", or lots of head-nodding yes-man behavior, you were living in your idealistic dream world as it crashed into reality at some large fraction of c.
It CAN be talked over. Just don't expect people to simply agree with you unequivocally. Or are you only "open minded" about stuff you desire to be "open minded" about? And, as with any controversial subject, you're going to have your fair share of strong words and stances.Quote:Perhaps I made a mistake in thinking this was an issue that could be talked over, it seems people are not ready to look at things objectively and without malice or bigotry. -
Quote:Bwhahahahaha!I had one clown that must have put one of my characters on his friends list because he'd hit on her everytime he ran across her. He didn't stop bugging me until I bought the Science Booster and turned the tables on him by hitting the costume change and turning into a 10' tall monstrous escaped prisoner and telling him, "You gots a real purty mouf, now bendover and squeal like a pig fo yo daddy, cuz you my little puppy now!"

You win an Internet!
I'll add this, and it's been said already in different forms.
Some people find this "creepy" or personally unappealing. However, they don't really care if it's going on in private. What raises people's ire, and invites ridicule, are the poor schlubs who do this in open zones, and don't have the tact to at least do it in team chat or some other form of truly private communication. Or worse, harass people with it who don't desire to participate.
Again, it's the "one rotten apple" syndrome (talk to the PvP crowd, they're INTIMATELY familiar with the situation).
And Perfect Pain. Who appointed me to judge others?
Me.
It's called personal choice, discernment if you will.
People without this skill usually have a very hard time going through life and/or wind up dead in a ditch for lack of it.
Is this cynicism? Probably. But it keeps me out of trouble (mostly), so I'll go with it. -
Quote:Hero: Flamin' Trolla (Fire/Rad Controller)That's great. Here's a bit of SG organizational advice.
1. Everyone should be able to invite, even the lowest rank. The lowest rank, however, can't kick. Likewise, all ranks should be able to pay SG rent...it's a hassle, and I always appreciate it when someone else does it.
2. Base editing rights should go to rank 4 and above. Each side should have a designated base architect and at least one assistant. The leaders should of course have full base editing priviledges.
3. We really should at this point establish a separate SG channel. I've noticed a few times where the group was split between villain and hero side, and sometimes it might be nice to have all of us on one side or the other, especially if you wanted to organize a group push to reach certain prestige goals, etc.
4. May be nice to identify who's who. I've interacted with Organica, Postagulous, Tidbit, FourSpeed, Fulmens, Hell Jumper and Panzer. I'm sure I've interacted with others, but I still don't know who's who.
My characters:
Hero side: Furia Fist, level 33 DM/Regen Scrapper - currently trying to beat off Squez for most prestige.
Villain side: Fran Frankenstein, level 23 (and climbing) Bots/Dark MM - current at around 63k prestige, which is the most after our leader who has 400k something.
(btw, if the character has two Fs in the name, it's probably me
)
People I recognize:
Fulmens - E K Nachtmusik and leader toon on Midlevel Crisis (name escapes me atm)
Tidbit - Riches
FourSpeed - Needles and Pins
Organica - Tainted Candy
Postagulous - Betty Forever and I think you have another blaster in there
Panzer - Panzer (that one was easy
)
Hell Jumper - Hell Pscyche
Villain: Tax Shelter (SS/Shield Brute) -
Quote:AFAIK, we're using the global channel TheMarket (no space).I have Tainted Candy and Medieval Crisis as heroes, and now have Serpentine Fire as a villain. I made a fire/willpower brute, and when I couldn't come up with a good fire-based name I just used the name of my blaster who I moved from Freedom to Virtue a few weeks ago. Nobody had claimed it in the meantime. ^_^
Postagulous has at least four different characters in the hero SG I think...
We really should have a SG channel. Should it just be "Medieval Crisis" or does that discriminate against the villains?
Also, when storage bins are added to a base, I think only the SG/VG leader can set privelidges on it. -
Quote:I don't care about PvP recipes and don't want to PvP. I am simply curious why 64 man free-for-alls aren't organized.
Maybe because there aren't that many PvPers?

Just kidding.
Probably multiple issues coalescing to produce the current status quo.
No way to guarantee everyone gets a drop during such an endeavor.
General competitiveness.
The minority of jerks factor
Trying to get people with disparate play schedules together
Variance of preference for PVP playstyle
Laziness
Thinking about it but...whoops! bootycall!

The interesting thing about Immortal Jack is not really his sexuality, or the myriad interesting ways he gets killed.
His immortality, and the effects of it have given him a much different view of time and priorities than "normal" people would have.
Where most people don't consider much beyond the current moment "We have to save *INSERT NAME*!", Jack now takes a much longer view of things. "Well, if *INSERT NAME* is allowed to die, I can actually stop something worse from happening to even more people."
This more alien contrast between expediencies is what makes him interesting. He's, on some levels, like the Doctor. But his moral code is much less rigid, allowing him to act in ways that are both heroic and monstrous. -
Considering that he showed up in episodes written by Moffat, I wouldn't bet heavily on that.
