Quote:I've taken, at low levels (TO range), to slotting up to 3 Accs. Quite simply, while the difference in accuracy is fairly miniscule at that point, I've found it more beneficial to hit more often than to do more damage or eat less End and miss more.I never slot more than 1 accuracy into a power, unless that power has a low acc modifier (for example, the Controller AoE holds). This is partially because my builds always have some form of +tohit, which is much better than +acc. It's also partially because of how easy it is to get +acc set bonuses.
Once I hit DOs, I scale back to 2 or 1 (depending on the base acc), and then at SO's and IOs, 1 Acc and rely on +ToHit. -
Quote:For running your operating system? No.Neat thread and a question kind of related. I have 9GB in my rig. Is there a point in going above that?
For running any single, non VM application? No.
For running large numbers of concurrent applications? Maybe.
For running large numbers of VMs? Maybe.
For gaming? Not really. -
Quote:No!You want to keep each stick of ram at the same capacity and the same speed or It will cause conflicts... unless something was changed in vista and 7. 4 1 gb ddr3 pc10666 for example are fine but you wouldnt want to mix anything. Some will even say not to mix different manufacturers of ram which is more than likely a bad thing too.
It will not cause "conflicts". This is unmitigated FUD.
Capacity-wise, all you get is an additive effect up to the maximum memory supported by the motherboard and operating system.
1 GB
+
1 GB
+
.5 GB
+
.5 GB
=
3 GB
Speed-wise, some boards will revert to higher latency settings if you populate all the memory slots.
Also, speed-wise, the board will use the slowest module (the lowest common denominator) and run all the memory at that speed.
The only time you get "conflicts" is if you're running memory of a type/speed/configuration that the board/memory controller is not rated for. -
Quote:I've used it a couple times. If you can separate the nictus successfully (-fly, etc), it works pretty good. Just watch out for the ambushes.I've heard about the rooftop tactic, but never used it. Really, that's what the rooftop tactic does, as well.
A couple things that can go wrong.
1: You don't separate the nictus. You CAN overpower their heals, but it takes for freakin' ever! And throwing down that much firepower for that long can leave your team drained. Having to do it multiple times until he's really most sincerely dead is aggravating.
2: You separate Rommy from his nictus too much and he perma-dies, leaving you to fight the three nictus. Especially if you have a high-level taunt-tank, you run into the problem of the three overlapping each other and being damn near inseparable, which then makes killing them an absolute BEAST.
If either of these happens, tell your MM's to ditch their pets IMMEDIATELY. All they do is provide nictus fodder and make your job harder. -
No.
No NO HELL NO.
Okay, a few costumes, and one or two little nothing temp powers? Fine. Cool. Great.
Entire power sets being available À la carte? That's just a bit too much.
Asking people to do without optional costumes and neat little single powers I can deal with. None of them (with the possible exception of Ninja Run) are game-changing. Asking them to do without whole power sets simply because they can't or won't cough up $10-20? Completely inequitable.
ESPECIALLY if it's not balanced like the rest are.
Moreover, how EXACTLY do you expect such a power set to be "PVE only"?
You are now booked on the Failtanic. -
Yeah, trying to explain the vagaries of instruction pipeline efficiency to the terminally clueless almost as much fun as banging your head off a wall while sticking your *BLEEP!* in a press compactor set to "agonizingly slow".

Quote:Just an FYI guys, I added a link to this thread over on the MidLevel Crisis threads in the Market forum.Rad Iculous has been re-created as a Corruptor. I am willing to participate on the Blue side with this too if there is enough interest.
Currently there's not a lot of group activity for MLC. The rad superteam happens on Monday evenings there.
Any other days good for you guys? -
Quote:Nonono. They're talking about memory speed ratings. Not amount.Person B said that RAM tends to reduce itself to the speed of the slowest stick. So, if I put them all in, I'll have:
.500
.500
1.
1.
... but they'll all run at .5, which would just be a step backwards. Again, forwarding what someone else said. I'm not tech savvy myself.
Of course, I'm leaning now towards wanting to:
If you have PC2 5300 RAM (667Mhz DDR2), and you get some sticks of PC2 6400 (800Mhz DDR2) and plug them all in, most boards will block all of them at the stock PC2 5300 speed.
You won't LOSE speed from adding more memory. You simply won't see as great a speed bump as you would if all the memory were running at the higher native speed. -
Usually true. To a point. If you're on a 32-bit operating system, you will probably rarely see more than 3-3.5GB of memory addressable without hacks.
If you populate all four DIMM slots, some controllers have timing issues running certain speeds of memory at or above default specs. Thus, you'll see slightly lesser memory performance (since it's throttling the memory interface back down to the default, spec-speeds).Quote:2) Put only the 1 Gig sticks in. Putting in smaller bits of RAM triggers an effect that ends up slowing down the computer, rather than helping it.
Okay, the sweet spot for 32-bit Windows (Windows itself) is about 2GB of RAM. More than that is good for running apps without getting into resource contention with what the operating system is pulling just keeping things running.Quote:Both came from people that are absolute computer experts, so I'm very confused.
Ergo... to RAM or not to RAM?
In your case, I'd say to throw all that memory in there. -
But the STF awards you a lot more than just 9 merits and takes a lot longer than 20-30 minutes.
-
Try an Inv/Fire.
Inv is relatively passive and can be defense capped relatively easily. Fire = lots of damage output. Enemies just seem to HATE being set on fire for some odd reason...
-
Just an FYI,
A group of players over on Protector are looking to set up a similar endeavor there. So, if for some reason Freedom isn't your bag, or it IS, but you're full-up there, we may have an alternative server for you.
Addition of the linky. Sometimes I'm so inconsiderate. -
Quote:Well you're also talking about a TF that's been nerfed down to something in the neighborhood of negative five merits. Asking a group of 30's to fight a +7 EB is a bit much. Even SK'ed up.While this bug was introduced with i15, this thread http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=205420 made me post it now. It looks like devs weren't aware about LGTF bug, so it made me think they aren't aware about KHTF bug as well.
Pre i15, on heroic difficulty, Mary MacComber would spawn at level 34 on 1st wave and reach level 37 by 10th wave. Post i15 she spawns at level 34 on all waves. Coupled with i15's +5 levels powers, that 1st mission became completely trivial. -
Quote:I can understand this mentality. But look at me now. An 18 month vet already and paid through 30 month. Barring a server shutdown, I very well could be here 5-6 years.I know it's heresy, but I still think that they should give out the badges but no extra rewards past five years or so. I'd hate to be a new player and think that I'll never even remotely be close to earning all the goodies that the veterans have.
Okay, there's optimism, then there's pure fantasy. You're somewhere WAYYYYYY past the latter here.Quote:Plus, it would have the added advantage of heading off the people posting that the new rewards suck.

If they do, someone will gripe that vet rewards suck.
If they don't, someone will gripe that vet rewards suck.
Kinda like asking someone if they'd prefer an injection of LD100 potassium chloride or LD100 formaldehyde? -
Quote:Take your Ritalin Beavis! *SMACK!*I'm deeply saddened by the fact that my toons are not getting their moble ICON and Facemaker platforms to change my on the go heroes and villains! I feel in my imaginary mind that I was promised by the Devs this as a 6 year vet reward! Did I tell you all I forgot to take my meds today!

Okay, I'm one of the people in the marketing group you mentioned.
We just ran a "slow" two hour 7-man Posi last night. I say "slow" because we didn't ghost. We just killed everything in our way. The only reason we had any deaths at all was we'd occasionally get split up (because we weren't paying attention). If difficulty of the TF wasn't locked at +0, we probably could have handled it at +2. 4 of us were Protector regulars.
Essentially, once you get to SOs, AM is perma on a large team.
If we planned to level much past 33-38, I'd LOVE to see what a Doc Q would run like.
I'd also post in the MidLevel Crisis thread(s) and let them know as well. It might make sense to have an alternate venue for the endeavor. Especially after we tried to engage in a Rikti Raid last night. *BLEEP*ing lag-tastic is about the nicest thing I can say about it. -
Quote:Actually, since the authentication method belongs to NCSoft themselves, it'd be applicable to any and all games that use NCSoft authentication.I'm thinking that if they did consider going this route most of the burden of that cost would go to Aion, rather than Paragon and CoH. At that point, it may be a little easier for our devs to integrate its use into our game if it's something that NC puts in anyways for Aion and GW.
-
Please don't think I'm arguing that this wouldn't make things harder to break into. That's not the case.
I just have a pet peeve about people who think that "additional layers of security" (in the non-specific sense) is some magic bullet. I've had to deal with buzzword-chugging, executive-level "I command it and it is thus, and if I buy *insert product*, I'll be secure" CISSP-types frequently over the last decade and more and I can't decide which I hate worse. Them or lawyers. Maybe I should throw them all together in a Battle Royale style deathmatch, then shoot the victor.
Still, would I make use of this if it were made available for Co*? Probably. Not sure that NCSoft and Paragon could justify the expense of melding it into their infrastructure though. -
All right. 7 Fire/Rads (most, if not all of them MLC'ers) completed a Positron in 2 hours 14 minutes in "kill everything in our way" mode (if we'd ghosted, it might have gone slightly faster).
Mondo merit generation and a buttload of prestige (not to mention a couple levels for pretty much everyone).

Afterwords we participated in what had to be THE most lag-tastic Rikti raid I've yet to experience on Freedom.
Ah well. Next Monday. Same FRad time. Same FRad channel. -
Quote:As someone who works in the IS/IT field I can confidently say that adding a layer isn't necessarily adding security. And seriously, my hostility comes from people in this very thread claiming that an added layer of security adds no security at all. I feel like I've walked into a physics class and had someone earnestly explain how sometimes apples will fall into the sky.
Also, security is NOT about "keeping the other guy out". Anyone who's trying to tell you this is SELLING YOU SOMETHING. Security is a deterrent system, but it doesn't stop people from getting in. At it's root, a system is designed to be accessed and used.
Ideally security should
- Make it tough enough that an unauthorized user trying to break in gives up and moves on to greener pastures
- Makes the unauthorized user have something spectacular (and highly visible) to get in and sets off alarms, getting them noticed.
- Takes so long to get in, creating an anomalous usage pattern, that they get noticed before they can do any damage.
-
Okay, what're you doing to get on teams?
Standing around in *INSERT ZONE* going "L31 Tank LFT?"
Using some of your server's global channels to network with people?
Using the boards to find teams?
Starting your own teams when all else fails? -
Quote:Thing is, unless you can truthfully purport to speak for "the majority" or "the whole" of the PvP community, the actions and words of brain-dead douchebags like the aforementioned nameless one are what will continue to be foremost in the minds of non-PvP'ers being groomed to participate in PvP.It still doesn't equate to what A_F had said. The connection just isn't there, let alone as a voice of the whole (or even majority) of the PvP community.
Again, the majority of the problems with PvP aren't technical. They're social. -
Quote:A certain person who's name shall remain unsaid has essentially said "Stoopit PvE'ers shouldn't buy up PvP recipies because the PvP'ers need them!"How does everyone having equal access to the same IO's for use in PvP translate as a desire to having better gear than another guy just to make them unhappy? That's a pretty huge leap of logic.
They also talked about "Korean RMT'ers", how price caps on the market would "fix" the economy, etc. -
