Quote:This is the way I understand it after reading the ED rules:Did you gain a level? Your SOs get weaker each time you level until they expire.
The base recharge on Practiced Brawler is 3min 20sec. That is 200 seconds.
Each SO enhancement gives a 35% bonus to recharge. Since 2 = 70% this
may be effected by ED, the formula from the wiki is
70 + (0.9 × (E - 70)) , plugging in my 70% here means there is no penalty: 70+(0.9x(70-70)) = 70+(0.9x(0)) = 70+(0) = 70
I also have quickness. Quickness is supposed to provide a 20% reduction in recharge speed. This gives me a total of 90% reduction. The way I calculate it this means that this power should only take 20 seconds to recharge and yet it is at almost 2 minutes.
Even if you applied the 20% for quickness after the effect of the enhancements the recharge would be 48 seconds and not 1min 57 seconds. -
Has anyone noticed anything different since the release of 17.
Here's a for instance. I have a Claws/SR scrapper with Practiced Brawler currently at level 31. I have it slotted with 2 recharge reduction enhancements. I've been keeping pretty close watch on the recharge speed is on this power. Before 17, with 2 SO enhancements I had the recharge speed on this down to almost 1:30. Now, after the new issue the recharge is back up to 1:57. Is this a bug? Has something been nerfed? -

Quote:Exactly, I have a story that I would love to create that would be much better with before and after maps. Still plan to do it but I've gotten hung up on other things, not to mention playing enough in AE to unlock all the unlockable content and then clicking through every map and going back and forth between the different sets. I stopped just short of doing a screen capture of every layout so that I could print them for comparison.T I was working on an arc that needed a before and after lab and had to settle for 'close enough', so I know how you feel about having to click through them all.
In the end I'll probably do the same and settle for "close enough", but it won't be as fun for me to create that way. -
I'd like to see some additional maps for AE. Not just more maps, but more similar maps. I'll explain.
For instance
I'd like to see maps of burned out office building with identical layouts to the standard offices.
I'd like to see maps of ruined labs with identical layouts to standard labs.
I'd like to see maps of abandoned factories with identical layouts to standard factories.
I don't think this would be much of a stretch. While playing the game I have seen identical rooms in nice building and buildings that are in ruins, the same for factories and labs. I know all the bits are there to create identical maps in all the sets. I would assume that someone just needs to put them together? but that's just a guess. -
I've been searching and unable to find any maps with the same layout in two different sets. I know it's possible because while playing normal content I've seen the same room layout bits in both the burned out building and the "nice" building. Same for factories and labs.
Maybe I should make a request.... -
Are there any resources to show what maps are available without actually clicking through every one of them?
The reason that I as is that I'm looking for something specific. For a story I'd like to create I would like two maps, both in the same setting (be that tech or offices) that have the same layout but where one is normal and the other is either burned out or a ruin.
Or does anyone know if two such maps exist? Regular maps or unlock-able content doesn't matter, as long as they have the same layout and one in a ruined state and the other is not. -
Okay, I have two issues:
1) Every single time I leave an instanced mission I have zero control over pets. No pets show in my pets window, I can't make them do anything or even dismiss them. Whatever I try I get the message "No Active Pets". This means that "I MUST" dismiss all pets before leaving an instanced mission and then recall them later. Is there any decent work around for this that will save my sanity?
2) I've read that "Equip Bot" and "Upgrade Bot" are supposed to do all of my bots at the same time, but this is not the case. If I choose one and use either of these powers only one bot get the modification (I've checked over and over again). Is there some secret to getting them all equipped/upgraded? -
I'm going to copy my post from the Player Help Section below (from:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=211959)
Quote:I have now read through most of what I could find on this board and I've had no luck with making any changes.Well, My hard drive died and I needed to reinstall everything and now CoX is not running correctly.
The issue is that movement is not smooth. Instead everything jerks forward when running or it jerks when turning (Jumps large distances rather than moving smoothly). And it is bad enough that I simply can't play the game this way. The only way that I can stand to play the game is if I turn the graphics to minimum.
It was working fine before the crash, so it must be something that I'm missing.
Can anyone suggest where I might go to get it fixed. Can anyone here help me? I don't even know what information would help.
Anything that can help me wold be greatly appreciated.
Basic Info
Computer: Lenovo T60p
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Display Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
I have tried installing and reinstalling drivers. I have used several different driver detection programs to check what is installed. I'm getting absolutely nowhere in a big hurry and getting rather frustrated with the entire thing. Just about ready to give it up and uninstall cancel my account.
I'm really looking for a generous person willing to walk me through how to get this problem resolved, even if it's not a complete solution and makes CoX once again playable. I'm not looking for perfect, but even with the CoX set to minimum the jerking is bad enough to give me a headache.
I'm willing to provide whatever information I can. -

I've found this page to be quite helpful in explaining how contacts work: http://www.redtomax.com/contacts/coh.php

Quote:I believe that this particular mission also has Merits awarded for successful completion, which could be another reason that it cannot be dropped??For future reference, I highlighted the reason you couldn't drop the mission. You also can't drop a mission that awards a badge, or that is part of a task force / strike force..... there may be some other restrictions as well.
Anyway, the point is, that there are missions that are not task forces or trials that give rewards and that require a min size team to complete. To make things fair I think there should also be missions that require a solo effort to receive the completion awards. For that matter, I wouldn't mind seeing a few Task Forces and Trials that required a solo effort, just for a change of pace.
I know I'm probably in the minority and that's fine. But I like to do both solo and teams and really wouldn't mind if there are different rewards/badges/whatever for each. It might provide a little more variety.
But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions
And I'm quiet glad to hear this. I find the simultaneous glowie click missions to be the most annoying.... "Crap, we have 10 minutes left to complete this mission and have 8 heroes click 8 different glowies all at the same time, but Bill just got face planted and we're all out of Rez's. There's no way he can make it back from the Hosp and through that hoard of trolls in time. This one's a bust boys and girls." -
Quote:Actually, I tried that, this particular mission would not let me drop. When I talked to the contact I got "You better hurry up that building is going to go up in flames". No choice to drop it. In this particular case, the ONLY way to complete the mission successfully is to actually complete it with a 3 member team.(By the way, if you want to progress that contact, take the mission and then drop it--you can drop one mission every three days, and it counts as completing it.)
This was the reason for my comment. There are missions that require a minimum number of people to complete successfully that are NOT Task forces or Trials. Either these types of missions should be completely removed from standard contacts or missions that require a maximum number of heroes should be added to standard contacts. -
And I'm completely in agreement with this. Personally I want to get badges for actually doing something and to be completely honest, if I can't earn a badge for something specific then I can't earn the badge, and if I really want it then I'll work harder to get it and it will mean more, if not to others then to me anyway.
-
I'd have to agree with the hole idea of getting badges for solo play, though I have no clue what they might be.
Here's a suggestion though....
Why not have missions that must be completed solo? There are missions that must be completed by a team, why not put the shoe on the other foot?
Just last night I was on with one of my characters that I play almost exclusively when I want to play solo and my contact gave me a mission that I could not complete solo. "Stop the family from fire bombing an office" that was timed and required clicking 3 bombs simultaneously. No way to complete this one solo so I either need to scare up 2 other people just to do some clicking or skip the mission. Skipping the mission means that I can't complete the contact since she won't give me another one till I take this one and either complete or fail it.
So, Why not a few difficult missions that must be done solo that give you a badge for completing them? Ramp up the difficulty, make them really nasty, whatever, but make them a test of you're ability to complete a difficult task without help.
I know the whole game is geared toward "Team" play. But the fact is, like has already been mentioned, that in comics, most "Heroes" go it alone, or in small groups.
There could even be missions that require exactly 2 (A hero and her site-kick) or even exactly 3, (alah Batman, Robin and Batgirl). But the mission must be completed by that exact number to gain the reward. Less and it can't be finished, more, no reward. -
Thank you for this information. I did not know that this was the term and I will use it in my pre-invite communication.

Hopefully no one here has taken offense to anything I've said in any of my posts. I'm just trying to learn and understand, not to irritate people. -
Quote:Actually, neither. She was not being a jerk, she was doing what she was there to do. There was never an instance when she did not cooperate. No one in the group seemed to wonder where she was and I didn't feel in necessary to tell them what she was doing, because that is not part of who she is....no one wants to be nice to the jerk...In comic book fiction, jerk villains forced to cooperate ... Is that the type of villain you really want to RP?
Smart comic book villains cooperate with the heroes ...
If someone had asked, "Hey, where's so and so" I would have likely said something, and I would have likely returned to the main group or waited or even continued depending on what the leader wanted me to do. On the other hand, she still would not have given her life to save someone or even stuck her neck out. That simply isn't who she is. (If, I had to do something to get along that was not "In Character" to complete the mission I would not have been rude about it. I simply would have added a note to the player "Expects Villains to play nice" and then would simply not play with them again with this particular character)
She didn't say "Hey guys, while you stay here and get your heads bashed in, I'm going to run off and do my nails or something." She simply did her job as she saw it.
Each of my characters have their own personalities, for good or for bad, and they live with their choices. Some work and play well with others and some don't. No two are the same, that would just be boring. I am not my characters and my characters are not me.
And even afterward I was polite and I even apologized to those that it upset (not that this stopped their ranting). While it may be important for me to realize that there are a lot of people that are not RPers, it is equally important for them to realize that there are.
I guess this last thing is the reason that I've posted this. I simply found it upsetting that some could not seem to get past it and move on. Add a note on me that says (This person is an A'hole, don't invite her again).
Quote:But, by your own description of events, I feel you were a poor TEAMMATE.
And again, I will say that the leader did not have any problem with what I did.
Quote:... bemoaned the fact that teams you were on just rushed through to the end to grab the goodies and didn't take any time to read the clues, etc.
I believe that you are referring to the thread I started about "Teams & Tactics". To me this is no different. The tactics of this character are to get to the objective. I believe that my complaint had to do with not looking at things from a tactical viewpoint. With this stalker I can do that, and without all the time spent bashing things, when bashing things is not really part of the plot.
Quote:Solo play is a valid option in CoX. You can certainly make characters that don't work well with others, but you might want to reserve them for solo play. When teaming with others, break out characters who could plausibly be team players when called upon.
Actually, the "Earn XP" on this particular character is turned off. But I understand the perspective and I'm not familiar enough with the way the game works to know how this effects the XP of other players in the team. If there was a setting for "Give my XP to the team" I would turn that on when I turn off XP. In fact, my XP is almost always off when I'm with a team, especially for missions that are out of the normal flow, like events, to prevent leveling out of whatever contact I'm currently doing. -
Quote:The problem was that the mission was over before this became apparent. When the "Mission Complete" message was shown and some were upset that they had not gotten to the end yet.The polite thing to do is explain a difference in style when you see it's impeding your team or your fun - then let it go.
Funny though how they didn't notice the villain that they needed to complete the mission, wasn't among them until the very end.
And again, it was not the leader that was upset. That person and I talked afterword and they completely understood. It seems that person was there for the same reason I was. -
Quote:I guess that's where I made my mistake. I was under the impression that it had something to do with RPing.Yes, I know, MMORPG. But it ain't one just because it says it is one.
I should also add that, when I got the tell asking if I was interested I did tell the person that "I will stay in character" or something to that effect, and I got a "kk" followed by the invite. I should also note that it was not the leader, the one that sent me the invite, that got bent out of shape. -
I didn't know where to post this and this seemed as good a place as any to get comments.
As you may or may not know, I'm new to the game... almost 2 months now. As you may also know, the Valentine's event has started and this relates to the way heroes and villains work together and view each other.
I have a stalker on the red side and she was standing around Pocket D because I was looking for an invite to a hero team to retrieve Aphrodite's Girdle. I'm not a heavy RP kind of a persons, but I do like to keep my characters "In Character". This stalker has a particular mind set. She believes in stealth, she also will only do what is necessary to achieve her objective. for instance, if the mission is to "Defeat Sithias and his guards" She's not going to battle every snake in the cave until she gets to Sithias. She's going to sneak past all the other snakes and take out the objective. Anything else is energy wasted needlessly and destruction just for destruction's sake.
She also couldn't give a fig if someone on her team dies unless that death will somehow keep her from reaching the objective. So she's not likely to go to the aide of another unless that also serves some purpose.
Now I get my invite, there are 7 heroes and my stalker on the team.
As far as she was concerned, she was there because the goody, goody, do gooders needed her, not because she needed them in any way.
What do you think happened?
Let me give you a hint, it ended in a lot of rude tells from several of the other players and me adding them to my global ignore.
Am I just supposed to abandon who the character is because she is working with heroes?
Anyway, the objective was to break the seal on the case and retrieve the girdle, that is why she was there. So, she did not fight anything she did not need to. She worked here way past everything to the door that needed the key. When the key was found, admittedly by the rest of the group, She opened the door and proceeded to the target. Strangely there was nothing but a few cannons to take out before she went to work on that seal. Objective reached.
On the other end of the coin, when I was doing the villain mission where I needed the hero, she needed that hero (and she only invited the hero, no one else) In this case she needed that hero to get to the end to destroy the cauldron or whatever it was. In this case, she stuck with the hero, protecting her and, though she did not appreciate doing so, battled everything to get her there. -
Quote:Took quickness as soon as it became available.Once you hit 22 and get SOs in it, it should become perma.
(Hint: Take Quickness in the early 20's, it really helps)
When you say, "it should become perma", You're talk about CTRL clicking the icon for Practiced Brawler so that it fires off every time it is ready? If not, can you please explain? -
Quote:This may be what it says, but with Lift, that isn't what I'm seeing. Most of the damage from lift appears to happen when the target smashes back into the ground. If the target is held, there may be a bonus from the initial lift, but since they do not actually get lifted they never smash back into the ground and most of the potential damage is not applied. I'm just watching their XP bar when I do different things.Remember, when you use an attack against a held target you get a 100% damage bonus due to Containment.
Quote:I also queue attacks all the time. It really helps to be able to remember what you've done to each target, so that you know which one needs to be held next.
Can you queue up more if each is on a different target. And you queue the same attack on two different targets? If not then I'm not sure I understand this. I'm in the habit of always queuing my next attack as soon as the last one I queued goes off. (Although sometimes I queue before I switch targets when my clicking finger gets ahead of my tabbing finger)
-
Well, up a couple of levels and it is getting a bit better, though still slow, and I'm still getting used to the powers. For instance, Lift doesn't do much good when thrown at a held enemy
on the other hand, when it is all I have available to click it's better than just waiting. I need to figure out a good system to organize the icons. I'm too used to clicking whichever one is charged and ready on tanks and scrappers. It would also help if the tab key was a bit smarter. CTRL Tab for the closest, that's useless for quick switching when nothing is moving. Tab is great if there isn't something off in the distance that can be focused on. Clicking is okay unless there are two on top of each other and you can't get the guy in the back. Would be nice if there was a way to tab through only the enemies in the same mob.
After reading the advice here I've decided to ignore most of the ally shield stuff (for now) and focus on the attacks. At 6 I will take hover, which will give a little more protection than nothing at all. Not sure how I'm going to juggle the pools (there are 3 I'm looking at) as taking pool powers will definitely extend the point where I'll feel confident as taking those will mean putting off taking some useful defense. Still not giving up...
I think this will be a really nice character to play once she matures, (I get this mostly from reading the comments). I've just got to get used to the idea that maturity will take a little longer. I'm guessing I won't really know for sure til she gets into her 20's or 30's -
@Rodion, I appreciate the pointers, and I have been experimenting. Realized right away that I needed to be constantly switching targets, but right now (like I said, level 3) I've only got 2 powers on Grav. So, I hit one with the fist and then switch targets and hit with the second. Now if there are three I'm waiting for one of these to recharge while the third guy charges me and I've got nothing I can do but either run or hit him with brawl. (Actually, when I'm in a team with my tank I constantly switch targets, when I play a tank in a team I'm not there to take the enemy down, I'm there to keep the focus on me... I love being the center of attention and I'm jealous when an enemy attacks anyone else. It's about me, my, I
To be honest, I haven't completely given up on the idea. I had planned on taking filght, so there is hover, which gives some protection and helps get out of reach plus AS for a decent attack and will knock them away. Not sure what other pools would be affective....
Quote:Is that in the Super Speed pool? Haven't given that much thought, I have thought about taking some of the teleport powers, so that means I'd be juggling trying to take things from at least 3 pools.... I've seen the comment that says I can have up to 4 pools.... does that include ancillary? I was also thinking about a couple of the powers from fitness so that is 4 pools to juggle (super speed, flight, teleport and fitness :S)Obviously you want to have high recharge, so you may want to take Hasten.
@Local Man
I may end up trying the Grav/Storm or the Illusion/Rad combos. To be honest, I'm just trying new things to see what I like. Like I said, I'm new here. I'd really like to try as many different things as I can and I have planned to give your guides a serious read through. -
I had a feeling. This one does okay solo as long as there are no more than 2 enemies to deal with (at level 3, so 2 attacks). Throw in a third enemy and by the time one of the attacks recharges it's too late and I'm hitting the personal FF and running or taking quite a bit of damage.
I wanted to check before I got too attached after I did that first mission. I don't mind taking a little extra time, but it was basically a one room mission (in the sewer with one main pipe leading up to one main room) and it took me between 20 an 30 minutes to complete. After that I thought, "wow, I don't know if I can deal with this". It was quite tedious, mostly due to the fact that there is no really effective shielding of any kind with FF.
Would've been better if the PFF was a little less effective and would let your attacks out rather than completely impenetrable in both directions. Not to mention that it is not actually completely impenetrable, some attacts do get through it, so not allowing attacks to get out is rather... umm... what's the word... stupid?
In a making sense type of way, manipulating gravity kinda goes nicely with manipulating force fields from a science point of view.
Like I said, I like teams okay (in my own way), but the idea of never being able to take a character out solo is just not very appealing to me. When I like teams is when there heroes working together for mutual support to get through a tough spot. what I don't like is being part of an 8 person team just so that the team can be full and it doesn't really matter who or what I am as long as I'm filling a slot. I like big teams for events and GM's but as a general rule I like smaller groups. What I have are a few friends so far that enjoy the same type of play. Most seem to count on full teams and finding those that are happy with just 2 to 4 on a team is difficult. So the idea of searching for that type of player every time I play a character....
