  1. Big hugs for both of you!

I remember when Liz was this little diddy scrapper we had to SK...you've been SK'ing me the past 10 levels!

I just wish I'd been fast enough on the button to get screenies...
  2. I've been doodling, trying to get to grips with this whole "drawing" m'larky, and I think I need a pointer or six

Seriously, this just looks "wrong" to me, and I can't work out why, so I'd love some help in getting it "right"

The drawing is a freehand sketch, manga style, and then inked (you can probably make out the framework and where the ink smudged in removing the pencil still)

The sketch is here and a screenshot of the character it's based on is here . It was drawn from memory, not from "life"

    Many thanks!

[edit - even smaller version of the sketch put up to try and reduce the hourly bandwidth.]
  3. Ummm...yeah....

    Look! A kitten!

    /me runs for cover

Seriously, Issue 5 and Issue 6 will be up "Soon"
  4. I consider the statue and PDP to be fair game, if I see something happening there, or you post a summary on the GG thread, don't be too surprised if it appears.

Offscreen but still public locations - well, the chance of me actually seeing them is slim, but the chance of someone seeing is high. Kissing on a bridge in Founders Falls for example. If you do "scandolous" things under those circumstances, I'd love a quick "outsiders perspective", just in case there's space in the paper.

Offscreen and private, like peoples homes... that's where I'd expect a lot of IC (and possibly OC) complaints. Most people are in odd interdimensional spaces anyway, so it's not really an issue. It's very hard to justify knowing what goes on behind closed doors, and you'd know if anything like that was comming, simply because the only person with enough info to write an article like that is...you.

If anyone has a problem with any article inolving their character, OOC, then email the paper and I'll remove or alter the article.

If anyone has a problem IC then feel free to write letters to the editor. I did say the paper wouldn't always be accurate IC

Okay, boys, I'd like to make a statement here, for the simple fact that you chose to once more ridicule my character. I do not wish to have any retaliations, if I do, I will poison your food. ;-)

Please be so kind as to refrain from mocking my character any further in public, it's starting to get on my nerves, and I doubt anyone would like to have one of theirs dragged through the mud. :-)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well Stef, you're kind of evoking a response with that post. You're basically asking for one set of rules to apply to your character and a different set for other people's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, she's asking you to raise concerns about how she plays her character with her privately before airing them in a public forum. Frankly, I agree with her, this isn't the time or the place for these discussions. You live in the same house as her, give her the courtsey to wait 6 hours and then discuss these issues, if you feel they are issues, face to face.

From a personal point of view, and carefully leaving my personal viewpoint on Liz out of it, this isn't something I want to read, feel is relavent to this thread, and *is* insulting to both Liz and Stef as a person.

Bridger, I consider this thread off-topic, and request that if it does not return to topic - that being the paper, not the actions of characters mentioned in passing in it - then it be moderated or locked.

    [ QUOTE ]
1: You wrote the article, therefore putting your own character in the public eye as regards the forums. It is bound to lead to commentary. Yes, the article was about Doctor Temporis, but because of his relationship with Shadow's Grace, no comments made about him can avoid bringing about comments on her.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For the record, Stef had no input on this article beyond an IC kiss in a public place, detailed on local. Neither did Doc. The article was written by me, based entirely on what occured in local chat channels, and is entirely IC. It may not be completely factual, and represents the view of it's author, the same as any RL paper gossip article.

From my point of view, if you RP'd it in local, in my hearing, then it is viable for the paper. If two characters have a fight at the statue, there will probably be an article, and I probably won't ask direct permission of those involved. If anyone has a problem with that, feel free to PM me or email the paper.

Or indeed, air it here, I'd consider a debate over whether RP implies consent for an IC publiciation a perfectly on-topic thing.
  6. What Star's going to do to Michaela...what about Liz, Doc's other women are now in print!

Just be thankful they went to press before they could add QS to the list.
  7. ((It's 1am, I can't be bothered with the IC blurb. Issue4 - Monday 6th March, is finally up, IC distribution has been plaged with problems and copies are trickling through the system. OC I know it's not perfect but it's the best I can do, none of the stories wanted to fit. Issue5 is currently undergoing the mallet treatment and should be up Soon(TM)

As always, the paper can be found here. we are currently taking submissions for issue 6 (and I can probably fit in very late ones for issue 5 ) which should be submitted to GGnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk

Supersheep will return next issue, I promise!))
  8. Congratulations Gid.

Everone welcome the GoD piggybank Seriously, congratulations! Now what's the secret other than looking like a christmas tree?

You know if you hit 50 with your squid before I ding you're in trouble in Bristol, right?
  9. Is Mina allowed to tag along?
  10. [ QUOTE ]
I'm just wondering, what do we do if we want our characters to investigate any of the stories, like the warehouse fire or the 200 bodies?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Send an email to the main GGnewspaper address saying which story you want to investigate, which character is doing it and what you're doing and I'll forward it on to the relavent author.

What happens then is up to the author, but as a guideline if it's one of my stories you'll either have picked an active plot, you'll activate a potential plot that can then get developed, I go screaming for someone that wants to GM a ready made plot, you get a cookie (I mean, you solve it really easilly) or you find absolutely nothing.
  11. Due to a small temporal anomoly in the printroom, this weeks issue of the Paragon Standard is now in newsstands. We appologise for the delay.

((The print archive can be found here . We are now taking submissions for issue 4, the deadline is saturday to inform me of the outline of your piece, and sunday at 10pm for the finished article. Outlines should consist of a vague subject and estimated length in paragraphs, and both outlines and articles should be submitted to ggnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk. Questions are also wanted for our agony aunt, Madame Celinda, and should be sent to the same address.))
  12. That's the trouble, I did proofread.

Tell me where they are and I'll fix 'em, if they're grammar then I'm horrible for spotting them, J ended up proofing my entire disertation at 5am because I had so many.

Deadline wise...no-one actually sent me outlines, Diurne (who is an absolute star!) had them in before the outline deadline, and the rest appeared with pouting on Sunday afternoon.

Although I really would love to have an idea what's comming by Saturday, preferably earlier, since that way I know how many fillers and what length I need to find from somewhere, so far we've just been lucky.

    Hope everyone's enjoying it anyway...
  13. Issue 2 of the Paragon Standard is now is newsstands.

    We hope you enjoy.

((The print archive can be found here . We are now taking submissions for issue 3, the deadline is saturday to inform me of the outline of your piece, and sunday at 10pm for the finished article. Outlines should consist of a vague subject and estimated length in paragraphs, and both outlines and articles should be submitted to ggnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk. Questions are also wanted for our agony aunt, Madame Celinda, and should be sent to the same address. Due to time constraints (aka a lot of traveling at the weekend) there may be a small delay in the release of the paper unless a co-editor would like to step forward.))
  14. Speaking of /kin controllers and travel powers, is it a good idea to pick up acrobatics for the status resists?

My current plan is to go jumpkick->SJ at 14, and then at 24 (or earlier if we get a frespec) change it to go Combat Jumping, Jump kick, Acrobatics and IR.
  15. There are plenty of RP supergroups out there. While I can't speak for any of the supergroups, there is a fairly large RP community that meets for social RP every night at the statue of Galaxy Girl in Galaxy City.

There are several RPSG's here who run IC missions as their SG, although entry into them is normally IC. While I don't think there are any direct villian/hero pairings, I'm sure the community as a whole has a couple.

Alts are always welcome, if you can out-alt Zortel the world may implode however.

GG isn't for everyone, but as a central hub for RP'ers it works fairly well. Join the global channel GGOOC and if there isn't a SG there to suit you, we can almost certainly pass you on to one that will.
  16. Just to add in a few almost FAQ's (ok, they would be FAQ's but not enough people have asked them yet)

    [ QUOTE ]
    Can I write an article?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes! Anyone can submit an article, by emailing it to the address above.

    [ QUOTE ]
Does it have to be about plot?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No! Articles can be about anything in the city that would be deemed "newsworthy", and if you've read the papers in a slow week you'll realise anything can be newsworthy. This includes fictional events, human interest pieces, international (and interdimensional) affairs, hero gossip, columnists, cartoons, screenshots, horoscopes, adverts, spotlights on local businesses, letters to the editor...

    [ QUOTE ]
Does it have to be a written article?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. As "Supersheep" shows, a pitcure is worth a thousand words. You can submit cartoons (both strips and single panel commentary cartoons are good, if I get enough we might even be able to start the GG funnypages ), screenshots that relate to your story, adverts (actually, if anyone feels up for drawing some ads for some of the city shops I'll love them forever)...

    [ QUOTE ]
Do I have to write these IC?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, in that they have to be written from an IC perspective. You don't have to have a journalist character though, just pick a pseudonym (or 6) to be your offscreen journalist. Of course, if people want to play reporters IC they're more than welcome to.

    [ QUOTE ]
Where do I send questions for Madame Celinda?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This applies to any "write in" section, including letters. Send them to ggnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk and they'll be forwarded on to whoever writes the article.

    [ QUOTE ]
Is there a deadline for stuff?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I'm hoping to get these published weekly on a Sunday (RL schedule permitting). Letters etc should be sent in as soon as possible to give the author time to write their article. If you want to submit an article you should send an email in with an estimate of the length, a rough subject, and a note whether it applies to current or comming plots by Saturday at midnight. The final print deadline is Sunday at 10pm, and at 9pm you may be subject to extreme pouting to make sure the articles appear, you have been warned.

Plot related articles will appear in the next issue after I recieve them, fiction articles may be held back a week if there are space constraints.

If anyone can think of any more questions, just ask! Now, get writing!
  17. We are pleased to announce the launch of the Paragon Standard, new newspaper for Paragon City. Issues of our weekly publication are available from all good newsagents, and the paper kiosks inside PTA stations.

    We hope you enjoy.

((The print archive can be found here . We are now taking submissions for issue 2, the deadline is saturday to inform me of the outline of your piece, and sunday at 10pm for the finished article. 18. But the scary Vhazilok stuff was tasty...

Me and J are maybe's, planning 3 months in advance is definately a foreign concept to me.
  19. Ok, some details

articles should be submitted to ggnewspaper@yahoo.co.uk aiming for 75-150 words for a short piece, 2 to 3 times that for an in-depth article.

People willing to write regular pieces should send in their piece for the first edition, along with an idea of how regularly they'll be able to contribute (I'm still hoping for a weekly publish)

News articles should be marked in the title as either plot or fiction, plot I'll try and get into the next edition, fiction may take a couple of weeks to appear depending on space.

Let's see if we can work a little bit of GG magic.
  20. Hey, "Grav Mistress opens new supermarket" isn't actually a bad story idea...

Every paper needs human interest fluff after all...if it works for real papers...
  21. This is just an idea, open for debate right now. I know similar things have been attempted, but I’ve known systems that have worked, they require either a lot of community support, or the equivalent of a full time job. I don’t have the second to spare, but if I’ve got the support of enough people then I’m willing to try and get this working properly.

What I’d like to attempt is the publication, on a frequent basis, of an IC newspaper. This would basically contain publicly visible plot events (such as the hospital thefts that have been happening recently), feeder events for plots not yet actively running, fiction on other newsworthy events in the city, with the potential for fiction pieces to be picked up as plot ideas by GM’s, and if there’s enough support possibly even gossip columns, adverts, horoscopes etc.

What I think will make this viable is the inclusion of something that to my knowledge hasn’t been tried before, the filler fiction fluff. Not only will this give us a bit more realism and world depth, it will also mean that the newspaper won’t be in danger of stalling during low-plot periods because of lack of material.

What this will need to work though is a lot of contributors, I wasn’t kidding when I said solo this is a full time job. This needs plot GM’s to write up news reports, and to write them up as soon after the event happens as possible. It needs people to be willing to write newspaper style fiction.

I honestly believe this can work, although I’m not yet sure how frequently it needs to be published to make it workable. The system I’ve seen working best (and that I’m basing this off) was run as part of a weekly LARP, with a weekly publishing to keep everyone up to date with the downtime happenings.

So, I guess it’s open to debate. Is this a good idea for GG (or even groups outside GG), is it workable, and would people pay any attention to it?
  22. Ok, I'm stepping back in to this one now.

Dark, calm down. No need to get nasty.

I have actually played, long term, under both "systems". I hope everyone will agree I know at least a little bit about what I'm talking about.

In MERPC, I *always* felt like an outsider. I had friends who tried to get me involved, teach me the rules, but the simple truth was there was no existing guild that really fitted me, and without that getting "in" to the community was almost impossible.

For reference, I co-founded the dance accademy, we couldn't "break in" to the existing system properly even when we did that.

In almost a year of watching "from the outside" I never really saw many new faces, RP (outside big events) was very hard to find. The best RP by far I had was playing with The Kreetles, not an "official" part of the MERPC, and dancing in Bestine, where I got to RP with members of the many other RP guilds that inhabited Chimera.

Towards "the end" (also known as the wombat pup-braid) I was slightly more involved as a fringe member of the criminal element. Throught all this I never felt as welcome, wanted and accepted as I have at GG - from an OOC perspective.

I guess what I'm trying to say is "horses for courses", to me, GG feels far more like the cantina crowds used to, rather than a massive rulebook for "pure" roleplayers, we focus on drawing in more of the outsiders, making them feel welcome, and generally have, IMHO, a far nicer community.

A more flexible system is what we want, is what we like, and this is representative of some of the best online RPing I've ever been involved in, and I've been around.
  23. “…after Iran insisted it had Moscow's support.”

And in local news, families in Kings Row are today rejoicing as many of the patients in the Kings Row Hospital made miraculous recoveries.

Kim Marsh is at the hospital with more details.

“Thank you Sandy. Doctors here are baffled as many of the patients here overnight on Tuesday have apparently made spontaneous complete recoveries. Mrs Callaghan left the hospital on Tuesday evening believing that when she returned in the morning her 10-year-old son would have passed away from rampant leukaemia, but was overjoyed to find him sitting up in bed and looking completely healthy. Experts from MAGI and SERAPH have been examining all the patients, but have now declared that they are perfect health and they have all been discharged back to their families.”
  24. I think I stuck it out in Entha longer than Doc did, although I was always only ever a fringe member of the cantina crowd, and never officially part of any of the guilds.

The biggest problems with this sort of system in COX are as follows:-

Common background : We're a generic heroes setting, if it works in a comic, *any* comic, it should in theory work here. This means that often culture clashes have to be decided on a case-by-case basis, Doc being a scientist hanging around with a load of mages is a good example, since we have to keep working out how magic and tech should interact.

That either means a very small number of "World refs" on hand in every interaction to make settings calls, or trusting that the system is flexible enough for the players to reach an agreement. We use the second right now, it seems to work pretty well.

Combat rules: Quite simply, this is impossible in-game. fights are pure RP fights, the duel mechanic doesn't exist outside the arena's and too much functionality is lost in there. Fights are rare (outside GM run missions) and usually boil down to a comparison of level and powersets, with a mockup in the arena if people can't decide a clear victor.

Static setting: With bases now finally being introduced we have the possibility of a static setting forming, but we've done pretty well so far without one, with most plots being GM'd in the traditional sense. While we have a community, Hero/villian interaction isn't at the level to make them good opponents, so it's mostly players vs NPCs, with the GM's changing in and out frequently.

In short, 90% of the reasons you need those rulesets either don't or can't apply. The GG dynamic (and most other dynamics) are still goverened by being predominately heroes and villians against the world, not the other players, and personally I'm happy like that.

Or in other words, imagine the MERPC where you had two cities, one pure empire with all rebels GM'd NPC's and one pure rebel with occasional NPC attacks, and the two only meeting when you went though a month of OC organisation to get everyone in the same place. There's a limited amount of intreigue, but that's mostly controlled on an internal group level.
  25. Hummm, Minako is the only one who really has one.

Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall and Bring Me To Life by Evernescance. There should be a japanese one too (hey, all anime heroines have at least 3 image songs) but I've lost my ruri album and can't find the track title.
