I dont usually have an issue with ambushes in general. What I greatly dislike are some of the Praetoria missions where the ambushes keep coming and coming ... and coming.
Some lowbie archtypes just cant deal with it. They really need to limit the number of ambushes in a single mission that a solo character has to deal with. Yes, inspirations help, but after a certain number of ambushes, those run out. -
I'm fairly certain I'm seeing more KB effects on my level shifted MA/Shield scrapper.
And I'm curious what extra rewards, beyond extra XP, +1 provides. Drop rates are effected by more Lts and Bosses, not by increasing the level. -
I'm beggining to think the Beast Master would be better if the primary powerset dealt with controlling the pet only and let the secondary be a mirror of blaster primary power sets. (pared down in damage) I'd have the combination of pet attacks and the secondary attacks be fairly close to blaster levels, but not quite.
I'd also have the pet have an inherent "taunt", much like a tanks that will allow the pet to keep aggro.
The pet powers would feature:
- several attacks
- an explicit "taunt/growl" power
- a heal over time
- a defensive or resist toggle
- perhaps a couple of stun or knockdown powers.
This would allow me to make my "hunter" that I've always wanted.
Another thing I'd like to have is a choice of pet - perhaps each primary could feature a different type of pet, some more offense oriented, and others more "tankish". What would be really cool - costume drops for pets. For example, if your pet were a bird, there would be drops that would allow to choose what type of bird: Owl, Hawk, Eagle, etc. If your pet were canine: Dog, Wolf, etc.
The only obstacle I can see to this is the Dev's reluctance to do any more 3D modeling/animation. They have thier male, female, and huge models, and they're sticking to it... -
Quote:I've been wanting the staff powerset for scrappers for a loooong time.
I was saying instead of having the Wild Card AT have access to all melee powersets like Kinetic Melee and Dark Melee, that it would have melee powersets made for it (like the suggested Staff powerset).
I was majorly disappointed when they introduced "kinetic melee" - who asked for that? -
Quote:I do remember a cartoon series some time back featuring a long blonde-haired Guitar-wielding super hero. Dont remember the series name, but I thought it was a cool concept. Yeah, the bard is a fantasy concept, but then look at Croatoa. I think fantasy does have a place in the game.
I can see how how the Bard would get shot down simply because it's more of a fantasy-style type and not a semi-futuristic comic book type. I mean, name a comic book character that actually does that. It's probably just the name that put everyone off; I would bet people would be more open to it if you called it something else, like a villain type called a Trickster. However, the Beast Master is a pretty good idea. When Masterminds first hit the scene, I was surprised there wasn't animal control. But then again, that's something an archetype can be built around, and I think your idea could work. I have a high-level Thug/Poison Mastermind with a second build that just has the Brute pet so I could heavily slot everything else; it's definitely easier to handle one boss pet than a six-pack of minions and such.
Thumbs up from me! -
BARD
Currently:
Controller = Primary:Control, Secondary:Buff/Debuff/Heal
Defender = Primary:Buff/Debuff/Heal, Secondary: Damage
How about:
Bard = Primary: Buff/Debuff, Secondary: A mix of damage and control
Instead of cast and forget buffs, I'd have toggleable AE "songs" that buff or debuff.
Already suggested this once and had it shot down, but cant hurt to bring it up again....
BEAST MASTER ( aka: Hunter )
Primary= Damage via a single summonable pet. Attacks vary depending on which pet is summoned ( I'd have something like Widows, where you choose tracks ). Would play something like an MM, but would have only a single powerful pet.
Secondary=Defense ( somewhat lower than a scrapper, but higher than squishy archtypes )
Alternatives would be just to have beast mastery as a secondary powerset for Blasters OR
to have Primary be damage ( like a blaster, but with a lower damage scale ), and summon beast powersets as the secondary. -
Just to throw a monkey wrench into the feasibility side of this...
In DAOC, one of the most requested items was player housing. The solution was to implement housing only zones where the players could pick a house and decorate/customize it to their specification ( both inside and out ).
Suppose they were to create similar player customizable zones in this game where you buy a plot and you can place buildings/statues/whatever. A lot of work, yes. But it HAS been done in at least one other game.
If they were to do this, wouldnt it be cool if you could add an npc on your plot that would let players run your AE missions? -

Quote:Actually, if I remember correctly, this is the way guild wars handles it. All players have to hit ESC.What would be nice here is to give people the option to vote. Have a little message down the bottom of the screen saying "Hit ESC to vote for skipping this cut scene." Maybe display a counter "3 of 8 teammates have voted to skip." If everyone on the team votes to skip it, the cutscene ends. If there's someone on the team who's never seen it, or wants to watch it again for whatever reason, it plays through.

Quote:Fair enough, we can agree to disagree.I wouldn't. I personally(And you're allowed to disagree) think that a "Top 10" for TF runs is just a bad idea.
Quote:Did I say that? No. That wasn't a blanket statement for all suggestions, but an opinion for this particular suggestion. Also, just because (Insert name of popular new game here) has (Insert various feature) doesn't mean we need that same feature.
The technology already exists, try standing near a robot vendor in Praetoria and listen for a couple minutes.
Quote:Zoned out? As in, no longer in the mission? Or do you mean that they are phased out? What would then stop the mobs you're fighting from getting close to the phased/zoned out person and ganging them the moment the cut scene ends? When it started no mobs were around him/her, and when it ends they could be surrounded, and easily overwhelmed.
As en example, in the STF, the cutscenes *usually* occur when you're entering an area where there are no mobs. The only exception I can think of is in the ITF, when you see the cutscene in the final mission. You'll occasionaly have a teammate who jumps the gun while you're still fighting - existing issue. I've yet to be ganked when coming out of the cutscene though. -
Quote:1. Shrug, what other statistic would/could you use? Time to completion is a good measure of how quickly you can meet the objectives of each mission.1: No. Just because you can speed though a TF doesn't mean it's the best run, and doesn't mean it should be glorified.
2: Maybe 5 years ago... but now? It seems too little too late.
3: What Wendy said. It would cause too many problems.
2. Ok, by this logic, we should ask for no changes. Now would be a perfect time to bring CoH up to modern MMORPG standards.
3. I gave scenarios how to get around the problems. The user is zoned out until he/she views the cutscene. Hence no issue with being ganked while viewing the cinematic. As to whether the devs could actually code it this way, who knows?
Quote:Sorry unsigned here too... the game lags bad enough at times without adding a ton of voices and as DarkGob mentioned what quality actors will be lured to do these voice overs?
They could go to the acting department of the nearest university ... I'm sure there are plenty of students who would love to have this on their resume. -
Quote:Having played voice MMOs in the past, I disagree. Voices can be used for more than just battle cues - it gives life and character to the enemy. This game is just too silent.
Too much work for too little return, and having played voiced MMOs I'm quite happy that CoH isn't. Apart from anything else speech in battles is mostly just cues for "Here comes my big attack - DUCK!"
Quote:More importantly it would draw massive attention to the fact that the game has no facial animation.
Quote:If this skips cutscenes for the entire group then absolutely /unsigned. -
A few suggestions for task forces:
1. An idea from GW - lists of top performers for task forces.
We currently have a large number of players who do "speed"
task forces. How about a list of the top ten 10 times listed by the TF leader's name? Be nice to have a little competition to see who can complete in the shortest time. Perhaps two lists: top 10 for regular mode and top 10 for "Master of".
2. Sound. Voices.
"That other game" has voices for practically everything - npcs, mobs, dungeon bosses, etc. Whereas, in CoH, all we have is text. I'd love to hear Nemesis' aristocratic sneering voice, Dr. Aeon's mad scientist cackle, Vanessa Devore's sultry evil voice, etc. How about adding an optional downloadable "sound pack" that would at least add these things to TFs. At a minimum, the cut scenes could have voices. I realize that adding voices for regular mobs outside of TFs would make the client too fat , but for just TFs - it shouldnt be too bad.
3. Ability to skip cutscenes in TFs. I've seen the cutscenes in ITF and STF a million times. Be nice to have the option to bypass it by pressing ESC. -
Water would be great.
I'd also like them to get away from just having "elemental" themed powersets.
For example, I'd like to be able to recreate the Isis character from Saturday morning's long ago. So an "Eqyptian" set would be cool - Scarab beatle swarms, Sand Storms, Feline pets, quick sand, etc. They could start a whole slew of cultural based sets, starting with this one. -
Quote:Nope, havent bought any packs recently. Not sure why I received these new items, but I'm not complaining. The 7 year rewards haven't been given out yet, and won't be doled out until late April.
Did you buy the Mac Pack or a Mac license to add to your account at any point? That's the only way you should have access to the Valkyrie costume bits... -
Does this include the Valkyrie Costume pieces? Just noticed they're now available in my costume options....

I also think they should boost the orange and purple recipe drop rate as you boost the difficulty. It would also be nice if occasionally some of the rare incarnate components that you currently have to craft would occasionally drop at the highest level of difficulty. -
I had a similar issue the other day where the leader essentially leached from the team. He sat out 2 of the missions in an ITF - logging in long enough to pick the next mission. Then saying "Sorry be back in a few". I wanted to restart without the leach, but the rest of the team said it wasn't worth it.
Be nice to have a "Kick the leader" option where everyone else on the team can vote. You get 100% agreement and the leach is gone... -
My Plant/Storm is by far my favorite character. Fire/Kin is hands down the most damaging combination, but is somwhat limited in effectiveness. Its at its best against non-ranged melee mobs.
Plant, on the other hand, can handle a wide range of mobs. With the combination of Seeds, Creepers, and roots, you can beat virtually everything the game can throw at you. Nemesis are the toughest to beat, since they are almost immune to confusion. I havent tried the combination, but Plant/Kin would probably dish out the damage.
I played an Electric Troller in beta, and wasnt very impressed. Low damage and weak control. -
Well, the "random" number generator still has not seen fit to drop any oranges today. Farmed the wall for a while and did both an ITF and LGTF. Still nothing. I'm convinced the drop rate has been decreased by the devs due to the introduction of hero merits.
-
The constant "SB Meh" is why I primarily play my Fire/Kin solo. I didnt make the character to be a buffer, he's made to put out damage. If someone actually needs it, like a stone tanker, I'm more than happy to.
As far as my other toons, I could care less whether they're speed boosted by a kin on the team. It's nice, but not a necessity. -
I've noticed something wrong with the orange drop rate over the past few weeks. I usually do at least 1 ITF per day, and used to get at least 1 saleable orange recipe per run ( even if it was just a Posi's blast or something else in the 5-10 million range ). Lately, nothing. The orange drop rate seems to have been reduced to near zero.
Tried farming the wall in Cim for a couple hours with my shield scrap and plant troller yesterday. Zip.
Decided to pull my Fire/Kin out of mothballs this morning and run a few Battle Maiden maps just to see how many orange drops I could get. I cleared the map four times. Again, zip. Plenty of yellow drops, but that's about it.
Just wondering if anyone else had noticed the same thing? Are we now supposed to resort to ticket farming and/or hero merits to get our orange recipes now? -
I tried the small art piece, which picks up the ambient light color from the room nicely... however, when looking at the wall from a distance, they dont show - you see the underlying stone.
-
I've tried the banners, however the velvet pattern shows very prominently until you pick a very dark blue - almost black. The whiteboards are almost what I want, however I cant hide the erasers and borders. Didnt know about sticking the banners to themselves - nice trick.
-
Is there any way to get a wall to be a flat color? Not stone, no texture. Just plain flat color?
I'm trying to make it look like an outside view (flat blue), and havent had much luck with tiling wall objects...
