Has anyone seen any detail on the price?
[/ QUOTE ]
We will probably never get a handle on the price paid from NCsoft for Cryptic.
I'm not going to put down any numbers, but I did a rough calc of how much revenue CoH/V generates from its player base over one year. I think it was probably more than that (2x operating revenue + goodwill is my rough guide for valuing what a business is worth) which adds up to a nice chunk of change.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, since NCSoft is a publicly traded company . . . there are ways to find out.
[/ QUOTE ]
It should show up on there balance sheet when they tlk about profit and why the profit hit this number and not that number type stuff -

Wait Tabula Rasa giving gifts it has been out what 4 days shutters. Anyone who had a brian knew auto assualt was a bust before it was ever released heck the concept sounded stupid.

I thought the Auto Assault concept sounded pretty cool, in an abstract "Oooh, drive around and shoot stuff" sort of way. But then again, I don't have a Brian, though I do have a pair of perfectly servicable Michaels.
[/ QUOTE ]
I should clarify my stance here as an MMO I never thought it was a good concept it would be great in fps style game setup. Driving around shooting stuff blowing up things screams fps not MMO. So just to clarify my stance because some games just fit differnt markets better -

Just mouthing off with the rest of you on this topic. But I stand by what Ive said. Everytime Ive gotten a "gift for valued X customers" from NCSoft email, that game has been on the way out.
I dont want CoX to be on the way out. I dont want NCSoft to TREAT it like its on the way out. Id have been just fine with this announcement if it HADNT included gifts to valued customers.
But it did include gifts, and those gifts are aimed at just about everyone else who plays CoX. And then I go back and look at my Auto Assault gifts, and my Tabula Rasa gifts, and I shudder.
In the end, I really dont want gifts from NCSoft on a game I love. It just doesnt bode well.
Im happy to be proven wrong.

OK, that's a valid concern. I hope you're wrong too.

Also add to the past history of Sir Bruce that is numbers are not reliable and have been way of base in the past.

Guess what WOW had PVP from ground up day one DAOC which still has about the same subs as COX was built ground up with PVP
UO which is still going after like 10 years has PVP ground up.
None of them had it shoehorned in after the fact. COX PVP is going to do nothing for subs because it was shoehorn into a system that was not built for pvp.
Sorry since the empty arenas in I4 to what ever patch you want to talk about has had basically empty pvp zones -
Yes and No
It is all about the system though
So yes I like some PVP (Loved it in DAOC and UO and some others)
COX PVP: NO boring at best -

I see that alot of work went into designing the walls and floors and ceilings of bases, but the rest is not unprecidented. Though SWG is in terrible disaray now, their use of home/building customization was outstanding. All items could be placed on all other items. If you couldn't figure that out, there were fine tuning commands like /move left 3 OR /move up 100 . This allowed great customization where people would use mundane items to build replicas of starships inside their homes or intricate aquariums. You were able to buy many different sized buildings for different ammounts. NPC's could be placed inside that could speak to players and become vendors or heralds. Any item could be placed in any room. You didnt add on a room just to have power and a room just to have worktables.
I think what would have been great is to 'purchase' different mission maps. A small wherehouse or a medium office. A large tunnel perhaps. Then we could furnish and power the bases. These maps have split levels, elevators and great story potential. Think of cleaning out a COT temple and then claiming it as your own.
Until now bases have been cost prohibitive for small groups of 2-3 players. Even with the new additions, bases serve little purpose. The teleporters are useful, but there is little else. When you've built your teleporter, most small groups just sell off the work room and benches. The med lab isn't even useful. Rez with 1/4 health in base or at full in a hospital? Tough choice. The seperate and limited rooms are a problem. There should be prices for various sized rooms that can allow any number of items. The items themselves cost so much. What is a power generator? 250k?
I think we were all expecting the batcave, danger room and hall of justice. What we got was motgage on a personal tram station.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heck UO and DAOC had customization as well but I got more uses out of the house than I ever will out of the SG Base
UO I could hang up dart boards put a forge in etc etc
DAOC forges alchemy tables stuffed animals for looks the options where there thy where useful
Plus I had a bank system to store stuff to.
I was disappointed in the SG bases -

Loot is almost always a bad idea.
Skills if done correctly can be a great addition to the game. If i remember correctly the Player Base DID want skills ala the universities, but devs couldnt come up with a "fun" concept.
Crafting, now I am biased because I love crafting. And COX has crafting to a certain extent. Once bases are 100% functional youll see more (yes more, cuz ive seen it already) "i need blank Salvage, willing to pay X influence." its happened already. it will happen more.
SWG was successful to apoint because the game had a community, both ingame and out of game. You could craft or dance and have a great time chatting away. It was something that you could do out of combat without leaving the community.
This issue is a double edged sword. Idont see COX getting massively more subscriptions if they added crafting or loot or skills. BUt I dont think the main Player base wants to continually re-roll a character once theyve hit 50. I know i dont and im an altiholic :P With my 50 i would love to see him craft some magical abilites or learn the arts of Magic (skills) and get a % defense or offense against MAgic Origins's. But that requires balancing and a lot of whining from PLayers who want EVERYTHING everyone else can do.
*shrugs* all i can say is Speak for yourself on what you would like, and not everyone else, because we dont all want the same thing, except make COX last forever

I think Players should be able to craft temp powers. IR googles; Jet packs an attack and have vendors to sell them.
Jet Pack last 1 day or what ever that would be cool -

And is it just me, or does it just seem silly to give a set whose sole focus is not getting hit an ability that requires getting hit to activate?
[/ QUOTE ]
Second that. I think I mentioned it myself about 20 pages ago.
I have not been able to get on test, but my guess from Statesman's words (a minor resist) would be about 5-8%. I have to tell you, one of the respecs for my SR scrapper included Tough, which at the time was 15%. Slotted with 5 SO enhancements was 30%. 30% was nice, undoubtedly overpowered, but nice. 15% was low enough that I could not justify running it for the End cost unless it was a big boss or AV.
The problem is, just like Defiance, once you hit 60, 40 or 20% of your hit points as an SR scrapper, the next shot is likely to faceplant you anyhow, and probably nothing less than 30% resistance would save you. I can remember exactly ONCE in 20-some levels where I hit a string of bad luck with my DEF, got hit several times in a row and went 'Whew! Glad I had Tough turned on!'
The values are going to need to be significantly higher for this to do any good, and they need to be on all the time. I do think SR needs some resistance, but tying it to damage taken is just stupid (IMO).
[/ QUOTE ]
So far in my testing I have only dodge and agile and I do not have the free respec to get lucky thanks to the test server taking over 5 days and 10 different tries to get my toon copied over
The initial when it starts in is so minimal it is like yawn I ran the same limited parts of the mission I ran tough which is 5 slotted (gave me about 18%) it went from 91 to 74
ran away healed up came back no tough running took 91 91 and then about 40% health it kicks in i went from 91 to 88 that is a freaking joke right I was down to about 20% before I hit the same % as my tough
Yep that helps with little damage but it does nothing for me in av fights I will be dead period end of story since I been 1 shotted by AV's with tough running and elude; tough has like 28% s/l resistance on live and now. Sorr with 28% defense it will be more often since this buff does nothing against the hard hitters because my health is to low for that % to make a difference that late in the game. Just put it a flat % let us enhance them with res enhancements. This defiance type ability is flat out asinine.
The buff does seem to stack with tough on the s/l side when I tested that.
Sorry states this is under whelming I rather have just a chance to enhance from passives to flat 15% from hit one -

As some players have pointed out, Defense builds (Super Reflexes, Ice Armor, Stone Armor to a degree) have an inherent weakness in that there are a plethora of powers that debuff Defense in PvE and PvP.
In order to rectify this situation, we will be adding a Resistance to Defense Debuffs to a number of powers. This Resistance will not be enhanceable, but it will increase over level.
Our general philosophy was to make it so that a player could achieve at level 50 high protection against Defense debuffs; a Defense build absolutely depends on the enemy missing his attacks!
[/ QUOTE ]
My level 47 DM/SR scrapper thanks you from the bottom of his heart (though would have sure been nice back when he was in his 30s and dealing with DE and CoTs).
Much needed help on this front. Not uber enough for many I'm sure (I don't play PvP, so will skip that rending of clothes conversation.)
[/ QUOTE ]
This does not resolve the PVP issue on SR at all 1st things 1st with ED SR has only 28% defense all slotted so lets do the math here this is simple basic math nothing complex.
Every hero has a base 75% to hit so a fully slotted SR (without elude running) has a 47% chance to hit SR
1 Acc SO bumps most players from 75 to roughly a 100 this jumps it to a 72% chance to hit
2 Acc SO's bump most players to a 124% which means they have a 96% chance well really they have a 95% chance
All SO's where done on a even lvl SO scale.
This does not take into account things like Build up and aim and some attacks like Touch of fear that have higher intial Acc
Also realize no matter how much Acc you have you can never get more than a 95% chance to hit any target and no matter how defense even if it was 500% everyone would still have a 5% chance to hit those are 2 hard caps in place.
The buff is fine for PVE which is the part of the game I play but for pvp realm /sr is a waste of time you do not even need to debuff SR to hit them at a 95% chance.
Plus do not give me elude it last 3 freakin minutes and with build aim +acc or Focused Acc+ build up can cut thru elude like butter. Also elude last 3 minutes blaster just runs around until elude drops bam dead SR no toggles no endo dead worthless scrapper -
[ QUOTE ]
OK, so maybe I'm a little out of the loop here, and maybe it's just my perception of how things work, but I'm sitting here still contemplating the concepts between two scrappers, mainly the one comes to mind: Regen vs SR.
I always saw two things, and maybe I'm completely off base here, but try to hear me out.
A regen scrapper, in terms of concept, is basically 'Yes, you're going to hit me, but I've got such a high regen rate that the damage will be mitigated by the high +Health that I'm always receiving'. OK, so I know some people don't like my attitude towards Regens, but that is how I see the concept of them.
A SR scrapper, on the other hand, is more along the lines of 'I may not have the uber health replenishment rate of Regens, but you have to hit me first'.
OK, so my point of view is a little askew, but am I off my rocker in terms of concepts when put up head to head?? Personally, I think that regens have too many +Def pwrs, when compared to SR's.
Either that, or SR's need to have their +Def powers buffed more, but seeing as the trend is moreso to Nerf as opposed to Buff, that is why I say nerf the +Def's of Regens...

Why it still does not fix SR and SR will still not be played -

Statesman, the main problem noticeable with super reflexes is that you are the most likely one to get killed by one hit from any Archvillain and this makes it less desireable.
The reasons are the lack of dull pain and real damage resist.
How is taking less damage once you are hurt, going to compete when certain things that only take down *18% of the life of an invulnerable Scrapper, can ultimately kill the SuperR hero with just one single shot?
The percentage was calculated assuming dull pain 40% health boost and 75% resistance are available to the most common types of damage.(140*25%=100*18%)
This of course may change slightly with ED coming.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know, I still haven't run into any Archvillian or monster that one shotted me unless it was +3 or above. Two shotted yes. If you fight even level or +1 AVs what the heck is one shotting you so often? And if it's one or two AVs in the entire game do you think you could use an orange pill for that one encounter?
I don't know, I hate to sound like a fanboi because there is plenty still wrong with the game and SR even with this buff (cough*tohitbuffs*cough) but for me the one shot scenario is a non-issue. I have never actually encountered it in game and there is an easy and obvious way to prepare for it.
Getting two shotted has been a threat many times however.
[/ QUOTE ]
Infernal 1 shoted me 5 times in one mission alone arrg and that was not my mission. Mine is still sitting there never to be done and I was running tough.
Babbage has done the old 1 shot me
Envoy of Shadows is just a lost cause for SR's because of the auto hit aura was not one shotted but he is almost a guaranteed death for sr even with perma elude running in I3 he owned me -
This helps some but does not resolve the entire issue that SR gets hit way more than they should
second not that I plan to pvp but the people that want to this does not help if an sr scrapper has all his toggles and passive slotted and lets throw in CJ he will have like 32% defense (this under ed rules) wow that will go over great with the players having a base 75% so with no SO enhancement an average player can hit the sr scraper 43% of the time yea great
A player with 1 SO has roughly 103% depending on build
That gives them a 71% chance to hit
oh lets go to the new way with ed slotting 2 acc in slotts
wow now they are at roughly 132%
Ouch 100% to hit which of course translates into 95% chance to hit
So who in pvp needs to debuff sr no reason to and this does even count Focused Accuracy in the mix.
Hey but we have 3 minutes of elude right yep we kicked that off the blaster runs around elude drops bam dead no defense no end no nothing great that makes sr a squishie in PVP and a guy I would kick of my team and I have one.
I do not care much because I have no plans to pvp I just find it funny. Plus the % are still to low.
The debuffs will help in pve but with the acc on players being what it is it the debuffs in pvp will not matter.
Anyone remember what the new % for mobs to hit are my mind is fuzy (dang this old age).
Some other things about this power will it stack with tough and the new resistance insp ? -
[ QUOTE ]
And if no-one complains things still get changed. Who ever claimed that SRs and Ice Tankers were overpowered?
Maybe, just maybe, the devs use their own data, testing and long-term plans while listening to the community for fresh ideas and to gauge reaction.... just like they claim they do.
It's easy to blame "nerfherders" for changes, but I think people shouldn't hesitate to post their suggestions. The devs won't make changes just based on a few uninformed complainers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like the devs have any credibility left on the testing front. I still remember the famous test fiasco yes we where able to heard and kill+8 mobs with no issue scrappers are way over powered blah blah blah. Yep they got nailed on that. Then lets go with Dark Armor and the Cloak of Fear Nerf; statesman COF is Auto hit which of course was wrong it had a 95% accuracy and costed a ton of endurance they nerfed it so no one really uses it any more; pretty funny how the devs like to do that (I am not saying cof did not need some adjustments either).
So a dev saying anything about their own testing and what they see etc has no merit left. They lost their own credibility time and time again the customer on this board have proved that they where wrong on way to many fronts and have a better understanding of the game mechanics. -

It's only the people that PL who are mad at the changes I5 brought. Me personally, I haven't noticed a thing. The game feels the same to me. It's just so darn quite when I log on now. Darn nerf hearding CoV beta buffers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I am not a power leveler by any means and I am mad at I5 ans so are a lot of non power levelers I play with who rarely play now and are debating on canceling their 4 accounts. In the group of 6 of us only 2 of us have a level 50 and the other 4 that do not have played longer than I have.
I say your statement does not even have a modicum of truth to it. The reason is that all I5 did was change the way pl work and instead of using tanks they use scrappers or a couple combos of uber controllers classes.
In fact it is eaiser to PL now than it was before I5 you get more xp per mob now you just go small group to small group really fast. The damage out put is up and makes XP gain quicker you can clear a mission faster now than before I5 using the right AT combos. Run around kill everything real fast leave mission reset rinse repeat. So now they can kill faster and get more xp and no longer have to spend hours herding up tons of mobs for the same xp.
Sorry the statement was wrong on to many fronts -
[ QUOTE ]
So...you're basing it on how many dots a server has? That's server performance, not population. If you want population, go in-game, hit team, find member, then search and look at the number at the bottom.
[/ QUOTE ]
The little yellow dots tell you a lot. Freedom use to be yellow all the time and I mean all the time no matter when I logged 1pm; 2am weekday; weeknight or holiday did not matter. Now it is yellow sometimes and nothing like it was .
So what does that mean it means that you have x many accounts logging into that server and to sustain yellow all the time at all hours you need lot of accounts because generally you have peak hours and then it cycles and for Freedom use to have a ton of people. When your yellow dot start disappearing and show less frequently that means you are losing accounts (not a few a lot) or they are not playing. You hope they are not playing but since this game does not have housing that you have to login to keep I doubt it is people not playing my guess it is people letting their account expire.
So the dot tells us a lot more than you realize and more than what some people want to acknowledge -
[ QUOTE ]
I5 wasn't about nerfing the casual player. I believe that it was to align the abilities of the powers in the powersets with CoV and within teams, make the Arena PvP more equal and lowering the abilities of those in the top 10% of the playerbase who were rapidly PLing all of their buddies.
It's not those of us with level 50s and/or post to the boards who are important to the continuing health of the game, even though we are the best players of the game. It's the *other* 90% of the players that should and will be considered in changes to the game mechanics--rightfully so, since I would guess that they contribute at least 5 times as much money to the game as we do. (Not 9 times because we often have multiple accounts and stick with the game longer.)
[/ QUOTE ]
That be all fine and dandy but there populations have dropped dramatically since I5 and do not tell me I am making it up. I can see with my own two eyes at logon they have dropped more people than I think they wanted to.
1st there where 2 servers that where generally yellow at login one which was yellow all the time in freedom the other was infinity yellow quite often in the last 2 weeks freedom is yellow rarely including peak hours infinity I have not seen yellow in 2 weeks.
This means people are not playing or have canceled their accounts and more than a few. If the big servers are taking hits you know the smaller servers have taken the hits. That means I5 was not kind to the casual player either.
I5 was a complete failure in all regards -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, i can see this thread has degraded. No comments from the devs will happen, and as people post more and more, it gets further from the topic.
We should let this thread die in peace.
S.Cold.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like a dev replys often; they do not even reply in the official dev threads that do not get off topic -
I am to the point I rather not have a tanker in my group they slow me down and get in the way. The mass herding of days past are gone and tankers just get in the way. Even on AV missions the tanker was just in the way; I prefer controller pets they do a better job as AV tank until you lock them down then you turn lose your Scrappers and Blasters.
Since I5 the groups that cleaned house the fastest and racked up xp like no tomorrow have been the groups with no tankers.
That is what I have seen the tanks do to little damage in this new era super damage groups defenders are welcomed because they heal and give you bubbles etc to make the job easier. So groups heavy on scrappers and blasters with a defender and a controller mixed in are way better and I would prefer to run with those groups.
Sorry Tankers in the new kill 1st or be killed era of COH you do not measure up. You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting (poor poor tankers) -
Ok I waited a while before posting my view of I5. States before you start patting you and your team on the back about a good job look around.
In the last few weeks infinity use to be yellow a lot of the times when I logged on now it is hardly ever yellow. Freedom was always yellow no matter when I logged on; now it is random and seems to be more infrequent as the week goes by.
That means either people subscrption have run out or they are not playing; that is your 2 big server populations if they are taking a hit then that means your smaller servers have taken a hit.
So States as bad as I4 was I can say that the trend seems to show that I5 was a complete and utter faluire. So no one at Cryptic deserves a pat on their back; sorry the little yellow dot says you guys failed not me.
I guess you better hope COV is all that and then some to bring people back and bring in fresh blood but the problem is with most the current coh population will problay be jumping ship to cov who will be left for them to fight in coh.
