So, I was checking the consignment market this morning and I had a really wierd conversation with the Scrapper next to me. I liked his costume so I took a peek at his build and noticed that he was a Martial Arts/Super Reflexes with the Leaping Pool with Acrobatics... And Practiced Brawler in the build as well. Below is the conversation from my chat log (color coded for clarity and with names removed).
Me: Acro and Practiced Brawler?
Me: Isn't that a little... redundant?
MA/SR Scrapper: no
Me: How so?
MA/SR Scrapper: because all defence powers are expressed in percentages, when one fails another may not.
Me: Never had any KB or Mez isssues with practiced Brawler on any of my /SR Scrappers... Ummm. And that logic is not accurate.
Me: Acrobatics does not provide any Defense or Defense Debuff Protection
Me: Also, attacks check against your total Positional Defense value, not each power sequentially
Me: Acro does provide some resistance to status effects, but as long as Practiced Brawler is overlapping, the PB protection dwarfs the contribution that Acro provides.
MA/SR Scrapper:all defence powers (melee - sorry i didnt meean to include practiced brawler there) dont activate accumaltively - they are all separate activations
Me: Activations, yes. But attacks check against the TOTAL Positional Defense you have
Me: Cumulatively
MA/SR Scrapper: Practiced Brawler u must have against sleeps and disorients and stuns. QED.
MA/SR Scrapper: no they dont
Me: Read Arcanaville's guide to Defense on the forums
MA/SR Scrapper: otherwise u would have over a 1000
MA/SR Scrapper: its wrong
Me: Suit yourself.
MA/SR Scrapper: no let me get back to this please
Me: A-OK.
Me: Good luck, have fun.
Am I missing something here, or perhaps am I misinformed? I was flummoxed by his response, as he had a substantial number of Vet bages on his character...
According to Red Tomax, Acrobatics for a Scrapper gives:
-7 Knockback, Knockup (unenhanceable)
-2 Knockback, Knockup (enhanceable)
-2 Held
RES(Held) +60.55%
What gives?
[/ QUOTE ]
See this all the time from vet players they do not understand game mechanics and they will not listen to you until they get on a team with a scrapper and he blows by them making them look like chumps that they start to listen sometimes. I was in a mission once with a db/reg he said he respeced out of integration because it burned too much endurance off course all he did was die the entire mission as we where fighting council and they used him like a ping pong ball all over the map.
About 3 of us explained to him why he should have kept it and this was no power leveled up AE person this was back in the early release of DB
I seen a lot of goofy stuff but I have ran a lot of pugs
I seen katana scrappers with Gamblers cut then the rest of the attacks where Air super Jump kick and Flurry
Get use to it is all I can say -
How about Liam Neeson in Rob Roy he is going up against a better fighter on his last leg then he reaches up grabs the sword and strikes him down. The oh I should have died but won moment

Aww really? It's so bloody cool looking though... How does it compete DPS wise?
[/ QUOTE ]
Lighting rod looks to be the exact same base stats as shield charge on brutes it is also a pesudo pet like shield charge that is about all i know about it never played it.
Also I am going to find a way to solo an av with a elec/shield die a lot trying -

I got my build already planned out for my next scrapper I am now closing all current scrapper projects and start the farming for my new elec/shield scrapper sweet lighting rod + shield charge for the win
next will by a katana/elec the 1st damage aura with kb protection yay me -
[ QUOTE ]
Bah, good points all around, and all of which completely slipped my mind.
Your suggestions look good to me. I'm thinking Katana/Super Reflexes at this point. I don't think Broad Sword would pump out as much DPS, even with Shield Defense. Fire/Shield might be good, but I still haven't taken a close look at maximum Fire DPS.
[/ QUOTE ]
I sliced through many of AV's without a gapless attack because I have hit over 40% damage buff so if you can come up with a soft cap build with aidself and assault along with the IO's damage buff and AAO aura you can buff up the damage with enough recharge you may have an easier time I will see if I can modify my current build using PVP IO's in the build and swapping stuff around and let you run you attack chain calculator on it -

I am going to start a STF strategy discussion now, so we can minimize the impact of trying to figure out what to do in play.
Mission 1 is fairly straightforward. Break stuff. Leave the two parts at the top of the ramp until the end. Drop any inspires/buffs, Arbiter Sands should have gotten coffee elsewhere.
Mission 2 is the most straightforward - kill 4 AVs. Shall we fight the few spawns between the AVs? O-portal out, except one person.
Mission 3 - I'd prefer not fighting all the stuff outside but do enjoy fighting our way to the last room once inside. Shall we kill the CoT in the Vine room before or after we take out the vines and AV? Who grabs the temp power?
Mission 4 - It is way too fun to kill all 8 Security Chiefs at once and then rush into the door and fight all the ambushes at once. I recommend that tactic for the giggle-factor. It requires some patience before we fight in order to get everyone in position, so we could just fight each Chief and its ambushes individually if people want.
After that we beat on 4 AVs. Gather for buffs/inspires and charge Aeon.
Mission 5 - I like clearing all the Arachnos, but we can try to leave some if people want (or we can leave some on purpose to fuel auras for the AV fights maybe). Mako, Scorpion, and Scirocco are usually pretty straightforward. That leaves GW. We can try using a bunch of red and af few purple inspires first. If that fails, many of us have temps we can fall back on.
Once that is done, we can clear the Arachnos around the statue (or leave them to try and fuel those auras) and take out the Flyer (I'll keep a timer running to know when it may respawn, although it probably isn't a real issue).
Tanking LR is best left to a scrapper with an auto-hit debuff aura, so Shields and WP scrappers (they interrupt his summoning). If the tank goes down, someone needs to be ready to pick him up and keep him away from those of us ripping the towers down. Since high defense will be our best mitigation, the Blue tower will be our first goal. I recommend following that with the Red then the Yellow and then finally the Green.
When we have trouble with LR, remember that the towers do not spawn repairmen when they are above half health. If we need to pull out, try to make sure all repairmen are dead and leave the tower above half so it does not spawn more repairmen. If we pull out and leave repairmen alive, they will rez previously destroyed towers, so when it all goes to hell, pulling off the tower and suicide runs to kill repairmen are good moves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just my 2 cents on the vine room as a scrapper in that room I always split from my group and take out both. I mean 8 scrappers does it matter vines + COT is just as easy
No clue on the temp power
If you need I can tank LR I am shield softcapped and have aidself -

Soo... to refresh the list:
Sunday July 19th, 7 PM EST. All Scrapper STF on Test.
1. Sergei DM/SR
2. Saffire Orchid DM/Regen
3. Celeste Cat Kat/Inv
4. Hejtmane (not sure which character)
5. El Outcasto Broadsword/Willpower
6. Gilmarin the Mad DM/SR
7. bAss_ackwards Broadsword/Shield Defense
8. Iggy_Kamakaze (katana/fire)
There doesn't seem to be a Shield Defense character in the mix, so I might as well. Though I am equally tempted to try my Fire/Fire and MA/Inv as well. Bah!
[Edit] Character has been copied over and parked by Statesman.

I am the shield guy bringing my fire/sd -

I had a scrapper ask if there was gonna be anymore damage types in the Synapse i was running.I told him he got the pity spot
Needless to say he dropped and we continued on with our all def/troller team. He didnt even stay on so we could taunt him about how we were done with the first mission without 'damage types' .
Scrappers are such weenies.
[/ QUOTE ]
That guy is required to turn in his scrapper badage
Bah I be like cool more stuff for me -

AFter many years of playing I finally decided to try a super reflexes scrapper. I've seen some builds posted and they never seem to contain Acrobatics. Is there a power in the SR set that protects from knockback that I haven't seen mentioned or is everyone just using IO's ?
[/ QUOTE ]
The only too scrapper sets that require external -kb from IO's or acro is Dark Armor and Fire Armor -
My fire/shield by passed by spines/da for aoe fun
Heard up a large group shield.charge at my feet > Fire Circle sword is way to much fun it is a better rush then throw spines jump in spine burst with damage auras running -

I like my SD/SS tank so far. I did see a SD tank repeatdly get dropped by LR in STF even with its def stacked with ice armor. Made taking the towers a pain. They may have to *cough* take tough and weave to survive such a task. Then again, I don't how the tank or the ice defender were slotted. I did see a soft cap SD/SS tank take on mobs in the supa dupa troll AE arc and pretty much did not get touched. That's not a farm. Just a real hard arc. Seeing that gave me something to look forward to on my tank.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its probably just slotting. last time I did an stf, our stone tanker got floored many many times. We ended up using a buffed sr scrap for our alpha soaker.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is a weird situation when the Scrapper out-tanks the Tank.
Even when I do survive beyond the Tanks in my groups I still don't feel like I am tanking. For one, I am not taunting at all. Ever. All the enemies that don't feel like attacking me spill over onto my team mates and that certainly isn't good tanking at all.

Unless you play shields then you have a really good agro magnet -

I am going to bring melted cooper fire/sd again since he has the best damage output and my dm/sr is not ready and my katana/sr would have no issues either just can not help it fire fire
Thus I can give you guys some more maneuvers + assault and grant cover -
[ QUOTE ]
I have three level 50 scrappers, each of which has a niche:
Fire / Regen,
Spines / Willpower
Dark Melee / Super Reflexes
If I wanted to solo an AV, I'd go with the DM/Reflex scrapper. But this one wasn't that much fun to play until I got all three endurance IOs equipped. Now she's soft capped three ways, and can sustain the offense. She runs exclusively on level 50 content: SR does not exemp well IME, since you suffer when you lose Weave and when you lose entire categories of defense.
If a team with a tanker or controller wanted help with an AV, I'd choose the Fire / Regen. This one is made for pure damage: superior single target and decent AoE. I have tried to focus purely on offense here; trying to focus on defense would not yield returns equal to the expense.
To run a tough MA mission, the Spines / Willpower is the one I'd choose. This is my herdswoman; she holds aggro, can take an alpha, and has three different ways to debuff mobs with -recharge.
The Spines / Willpower and Fire / Regen both have Task Force Commander. The DM/SR never will, and in any case benefits the least from hit point bonuses.
[/ QUOTE ]
As you see I have 5 scrappers at 50 I have two /sr's one is a dm/sr but right now my fire/sd is my av soloer and team he does both well for damage
I retired both my /da's I need another project to keep going until I get electric/sd on scrappers
I look at the numbers and I got an idea how they will perform but that is not the same as playing high end like I have with the other setsI am not worried about IO cost since neither will get a purple set and I can farm posi for anything I can't buy
-
Ok I narrowed my next project down to these two until we get some new power set to play with in between my fire/sd
Late game if any one has any input
I can get both close to the same regen rate not exact but close using IO's etc so that is not a big issue (I come out overall more with wp but nothing to make me go wow) endurance is equal
With WP I planned out some builds I can get to 33% on type positions or close to on all the defenses plus 52% resistance to s/l a little resistance to other stuff psionic resistance and a plus some defense debuff resistance from heighten senses
con: no heal for big burst damage
fire/reg
I basically have two heals in recon and dull pain plus dp gives me a hp boost
i can get to roughly 20-22% to all three positional defense
I basically have two tier 9's with no crash in MOG and IH
About 24% s/l resistance with tough resilience stacked
con: no defense debuff resistance
So how does fire/wp and fire/reg hold up under stf; ITF and solo AV's
yes yes I know my katana/wp at 24 would be better at surviable but man I love fire and it's damage I am hooked -
[ QUOTE ]
Maneuvers is helpful to a WP scrapper. Maneuvers and assault played a huge part in the all scrapper ITF this past sunday. I will not start another tactics vs FA debate so I won't speak on that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I used it to soft cap my katana/sr and with the recent nerf to Focused acc it seems over priced to me for the endurance usage
I also have Maneuvers assault on my fire/sd that we used in the scrapper all itf -
Here is my current build on live and I am built for damage in this build anyways there are other options with tough weave that make it a little easier and cheaper

Weeks are kind of random for me, because of open invitations for friends to come over, working out, occasionally working late, and so on. Weekends tend to work out best for me. Not that I'm critical to the process or anything, and not that this can't be done multiple times. Sounds like Sundays are good for at least a few people.

That is sick amount of recharge required lol
Think I will pass on that chain hehe I debating between claws/inv i have at 12
katana/wp at 25 or working on my fire/reg at 35 as my next project just looking at the builds see what I want to do and what direction thanks for the info but it gives me a look at what I need in my build still -
and how much recharge is needed

My understanding is that it's impossible now.
So I'm in.
It's the final fight, right? So if we fail, I've still seen the whole task force, right? And it's on test, so I'm not losing anything. And I have all these nukes that I'm doing nothing with. And these Shivans. And these Amys.

Hey I am all for it man I retired my spines/da I am thinking caltrops would be the way to go with the towers and maybe burn from a fire scrapper if we had one along
Just something to try -
Yes was way fun and the carnage we left was sweet the ride to the final missions we tore threw everything on the way to the last mission.
Also that was the fastest I have ever cleared the crystal even on speed runs are slower and we killed the ambushes even it was pure scrapper lock fun -
There where 6 of us that made it stupid Copy tool issue prevented some people from making it
It was a great run we set it to Challenge level 5 Invincible in typical scrapper fashion of course
We completed the mission and for good measure cleared every single mob in the last mission
More from me and sure the other 5 that ran it later -

I take it you haven't visited the Farming Thread then? =P
sorta on topic, it's all one game and AE isn't a problem except as a flashpoint for dev temper tantrums and overreactions.
Old timers played one game, uphill both ways in the snow and all that. Newbies play a different game where they can level in catered luxury if they like. If not, hey the rest of the game is still out there waiting.
The game has been migrating away from the "level 1-50 in our linear model" for a good while now. AE is just the next stone in the path of a much more free-form experience.
The devs explicitly stated that leveling 1-50 was one of the design goals of AE. They put AE buildings in starting zones. They want people using it, they want new players using it, they want new players and longtime players teaming up, they aren't concerned if someone spends their whole 'career' in the AE building.
I don't see much meat on the bones of the "omg ae is ruining things' argument beyond a nostalgic fixation on how a lot of us veterans are used to playing.
It's new, it's different, and a lot of people prefer it to the 'real' way to play. That isn't a bug, it's a feature.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yea I mean cone one new players now days have vendors sjow up on their map now. What the I had to go to a website and memorize locations of where everything was and have printed maps out on my desk or download a 3rd party software
Oh and what the hay new players don't start getting debt until level 10 now I mean come on we need to go back to level 5
Temp travel powers bah kid stuff we had to run across the hollows blind fold and backwards with no travel powers accruing tons of debt
Yea yea time to go back to all that stuff to really show a newbie how to play
