If you just had to have that latest most-expensive piece RIGHT NOW, well, that's your loss. I will spend 1/100 of what you did for the same piece later on, by simply being patient and waiting for drop rates and prices to change. *shrug*

Oh yeah, and just one more thing. Why do you think people were trying to get things "RIGHT NOW"? If they had gotten them right away, they wouldn't be in the consignment system. People that lost things were either trying to sell stuff, or had bids in for things at a price at which no one was selling. In other words, they were following your advice, but they weren't doing it stupidly like you idiotically advocate. They were putting in bids now at a price they were willing to pay, because that way if the price drops when they're not watching they'll still get the item. Your moronic advise shows that you don't actually understand the CH at all. -

Maybe if the people who lost multiple-many-millions would have WAITED until the market settled down, and the weekend was over so the servers didn't have so much strain, you wouldn't have LOST all that.
Everyone's gotta have everything RIGHT freaking NOW. Well, that's that.
If you'd waited, you most likely might have lost 10k or nothing at all. I don't even know if I lost anything but I sure as heck wouldn't STORE rare commodities in there, I would KEEP the rares on me and store the crap in the CH. o.0 duh.
Sorry guys I don't feel too bad about the situation. Some of us with only about 200 k on them at any moment don't have the option of 'losing' 20 million. Some of us HAVE to wait for the stuff to get less intense. Maybe if some folks had been less impatient, this would have had less of an impact.
This wasn't the dev's fault, it's a glitch. plain and simple. Every system has them, and outside of this minor problem there are only little bits to fiddle with. Beta can only give so much of an idea of how the whole massive thing will work, so honestly, this was clearly an unexpected problem that might have occurred at *any* time.

So, your opinion is that because some people have more influence than you, it's okay if they get ripped off? Or is it that people are dumb because they trust CoH subsystem A, and you think it's stupid for anyone to trust subsystem A, even though you routinely put your full trust in subsystems B-K.
ANd as for this statement:

You must be one of the dev's troll accounts to have so much information. All us players know is what Lighthouse stated here:

The bottom line is that the issue that affected the Auction House was preventable and we are working hard and committed to make sure that such doesn't happen again - with Auctions or any other aspect of the service we offer.

Does that sound like the kind of impossible to predict glitch that you describe? No it doesn't.
Gah, why am I feeding the trolls. -

Maybe I need glasses, but I did not see the word "sorry" appearing even once on this post, or any of the half dozen announcements pertaining to the screw up. To all the people who have lost stuff and are inconvenienced, isn't an apology the professional thing to include right next to your promise to fix the errors?
[/ QUOTE ]
You wanted an apology?

GenericForumName, who you quote, already recognized and thanked Lighthouse for the apology, immediately after it was granted:

[ QUOTE ]
So has or hasn't it been rolled back?
[/ QUOTE ]
Most of your post was too confusing to read because of the lack of punctuation, but the answer to *this* question is Yes, but they still have fixes to do.
here's what happened:
On Wednesday (5/9) morning the Consignment House server crashed. A few hours later when they thought they had everything back up and running the restored a back up of the Consignment House data, but they backup was from Tuesday (5/8) at around 8:00PM*. That means that everything that happened in the Consignment House from 5/8 8:00 PM to the morning of 5/9 was undone. This is what they call a "rollback". The problem is that everybody who, for instance put a large sum of money into the Consignment House in the form of bids after 8:00 PM on Tuesday night lost their influence.
The only records of what happened between 8:00PM and the next morning are logs. I suspect that what's happening right now is some poor schlub is frantically writing code that parses the log files trying to filter out "out-going" transactions so that they don't re-redupe items and then if they're lucky they'll be able to put that into a database script. If not, the solution might actually involve having everybody in the office chip in for a few hours to manually re-enter stuff from an excel spreadsheet or something. This is all just conjecture, mind-you, but it's the kind of thing that I've seen have to happen in my workplaces when data vanishes.
* I'm still somewhat suspicious of the rollback time given the number of people saying that items bought or sold well before the 8:00PM rollback time were duped. It almost makes me wonder if the problem wasn't confusion over the time on the back-up file. If the back-up process completed on 8:00PM it might have started well before that, which might explain some of the discrepancies. -
Yeah, nice guide. I mostly get I9 and IOs, but the level by level guide about when I should start to care about IOs was new to me (mostly because I've been focusing on tricking out my 50). But yeah, the first time I saw a "build" like this one, it was really overwhelming. In fact looking at that thing still makes my brain hurt. Good job.

Edited the original post to add:
[ QUOTE ]
Our apologies for this difficulty and any problems or losses it may have caused our customers.
[/ QUOTE ]
To say that everyone on the team is not sorry would be a gross miss-statement. It was a complete error on my part to not include words to that effect in the original post. The bottom line is that the issue that affected the Auction House was preventable and we are working hard and committed to make sure that such doesn't happen again - with Auctions or any other aspect of the service we offer.
Again, our sincere apologies for any difficulties caused to our customers and also our thanks for your understanding, patronage and support.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you, it actually makes me feel better to sense a bit of contrition. I work in the IT field, and I know that gut wrenching, blood-draining panic of knowing that actions I took and failed to take are causing major head-aches for people for whom I feel nothing but goodwill. I've lost data, released buggy software, and missed deadlines more times than I care to remember. It sucks when I cause it, and it sucks when I have to own up to it. In fact, it usually sucks even more when someone else has to own up to it (as you're doing).
So anyway, I hope I get my stuff back, but I accept the apology either way. -
[ QUOTE ]
I hope people will get back what was lost, but I hope even more that players learn not to rely on the system to give them boatloads of influence.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh? I'm just relying on the software to keep track of the various numbers and bits of data assigned to my character. As are all of us. If we couldn't rely on that 99% of the time (and I admit that 99% of the time we can) then Cryptic/NCSoft would be out of business inside of two months. -
[ QUOTE ]
A wall of whining follows, as usual.
I had some goodies involved in this, and some bids also. I shrug my shoulders, and went and whupped on some CoT and Rikti for awhile. Y'know...I PTFG!
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummm... that's what I was doing, and then the FG lost prettt much every unit of influence I'd gained from PTFG through 50 levels. Could it be that the annoyance factor is somehow related to the percentage of overall wealth lost by this f-up? Nah, it must be that I'm a whiner and you're a lofty and courageous spirit who never becomes annoyed at the inconveniences, slights and unfairness of daily life. Congratulations to you on your magnanimosity, but I'm going to continue [censored] for a while. -

[ QUOTE ]
I can see how the proposed resolution will be to the benefit of the big winners, since you've indicated you won't be un-duping those items (and I'm not proposing you should), but I fail to see how it will be of any "benefit" to me, unless you consider having my influence restored, but having the time spent on choosing the enhancements, levels, and bid amounts completely wasted a benefit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude...he can restore your influence. There is absolutely no way he can restore your time. Don't you think you're being just a teensy bit unreasonable?
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't ask Lighthouse to "restore my time" I was just calling him out on how this could possibly be of a net benefit to me. It's one thing to say this will be resolved in a way that will cause the least amount of pain, and I can appreciate that, and I suspect that that's what's actually going to happen... but that's not what Lighthouse said. He said
[ QUOTE ]
As a whole, this process should be to the benefit of the players.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I just don't see it. So I asked him what benefit I could possibly enjoy from this process, assuming that just having things restored to a close, but slightly worse state than I started out at isn't an actual "benefit" -
[ QUOTE ]
What good is a double drop rate with limited storage capability?
[/ QUOTE ]
What good is a double drop rate when <censored> can just <expletive> disappear! -
[ QUOTE ]
I knew I was being an idiot to bid that much influence but I sort of did expect to either get my wings or eventually reclaim my money...
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think you were being an idiot unless you wouldn't have been happy had the buy come through. In fact it will be a sad day for CoH if the playerbase ever feels it's unwise to trust the CH servers with large amounts of influence or valueable recipes. -
Wow. this sucks. Last night around 11:00 PM Central I was on with my brother and we were both browsing the consignment shops, and I'd just decided to go ahead and put middle-of-the road bids on the 8 or so Inventions I wanted most (which naturally are the ones everyone wants the most). My total bids were for about 10million influence, or about half of my total bankroll (and I do mean total, this being my only 50, and indeed only toon about 24). I remember saying the exact words "It's a lot of influence, but I'll only get sticker-shock if somehow all the buys come through at once - but that would never happen."
So, that being said, the first thing I want to know is what are these additional measure to ensure this doesn't happen again. It would also be interesting to know why they weren't implemented *before* this happens, but I certainly don't expect an answer to that. As you might imagine, my confidence in the safety and security of the data you maintain has taken something of a beating, and it would be nice to get a little more detail other than, "additional precautions are being taken".
Secondly, I'd like to see you back this statement up:
[ QUOTE ]
As a whole, this process should be to the benefit of the players. We hope it will rectify most of the consternation created over this problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
From what I can tell this f-up has a handful of big winners - those who now have dupes of costume recipes for instance - and big losers - those who had big bids or rare recipes up for sale, and a lot of people who didn't gain or lose anything of great value in that particular window.
I think the "momentum" ideas are good ideas. It would be a way of making suppression more tolerable while not nerfing long distant travel.
You don't actually say what "molecular vibration" means, but I think you're talking about having them be able to go through objects like lamp posts and bus stations? I don't like it. Running at extreme speeds is a skill, and it needs to be mastered both in Comic books and in this game.
Being able to use the map for teleporting could also be useful, though it might make TP even more over-powered as a travel power.
As for your other ideas? Making SJ "bouncy", your "innate" ideas. I don't really like any of them. Super Speed already has Hasten, SuperJump has Acrobatics for knockback protection (what you're proposing for fly). TP's "innate" would be way over-powered, and SJ's would be lame in comparison, since most people only take one travel power.
So yeah, adding "acceleration" as a way to kill suppression is a great idea. All the others need a lot of work. -
I think I read somewhere that technically speaking the damage an attack does is not strictly tied to the way an attack is "typed" In other words, an attack could be "typed" as Melee/Smashing, tested against Smashing Defense, and then apply Fire damage to the character. Is this true, or am I imagining things? I couldn't find it explicitly listed as a "feature" of defense, but it seems to be alluded to in your guide.
-
I'll say this, as an Ice Tank who chooses to invest *heavily* in defense (with about 44-45% def to s/l/e/ne) I don't think 2 slotted accuracy should be enough to hit me more than 1 time in 4. 3 slotted acc maybe 1 time in 3. 2 slotted acc, plus tactics, plus native tohit bonus (drawn weapon), maybe in the neighborhood of 1 in 3. BU + Aim should be in the neighborhood of 4 out of 5.
Now I understand that if I'm getting ganked by a team with stacked tactics, def debuffs, tohit buffs etc, I'm gonna get creamed, unless I have my own team. But one on one those are the values I'm expecting. -
[ QUOTE ]
Still as well-written as before
....
I proceeded to nearly drown, swim under a bridge, get nearly killed by a frikkin' frog and then kicked off the server. The game must have read my mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Good post, made me wonder why I spent so much time on .... Still, I wish I could go underwater in CoH... and getting drunk was fun the first few times, though mostly as a way to kill time during the long stretches when nothing was happening. -
Great post. I personally would find it more useful to compare the recovery rates to 3 slotted Stamina, since that's how pretty much everyone slots it, and it'll go a little further towards telling me if or when I can ditch Stamina altogether. (A Staminaless Ice Tank, dare I dream the impossible dream?)
-
[ QUOTE ]
Sure! Then Weave could give 15% Defense, and Combat Jumping could give 25% Defense (or whatever) and combined, they'd give 30% instead of 40%. When the local FF Defender buffed the character, instead of the normal 25% for the FF, it'd be 5% for 35% defense.*
Basically, additional buffs would always be helpful, but the base level abilities could be made better and more useful across the board.
* Disclaimer: All numbers used illustratively and do not indicate any relation to what said values or formulae would actually be if we were ever to implement a system such as this, which I doubt.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you could start typing the Hami damage, potentially. mark me down as /signed. -
I guess I can wait until it hits test, but my biggest hope as a tank is that Hami attacks/damage will be given types (ranged, smashing, energy, etc), so that tanks will become more than just a sack of HP with crappy damage. I guess I should be happy I'm an Ice Tanker. It only nullifies 3 of my primary powers. Invuln's entire primary is pretty much wiped out by untyped damage.
-
It also still depends on some 'X' factor doesn't it? Did the mystery of the decreasing duration ever get solved?
-
Install works fine if I install it for all users. Let me know if you need any more details to reproduce this.
-
When I try to install it as "Just Me" on a Win XP SP2 system, I get:
1: ALLUSERS property is not 1 - this MSM cannot be used for a per-user or fallback-to-per-user install
with an OK button
pressing OK brings me to an "Installation Incomplete" window, which does not allow me to complete the installation. -
Couldn't help but remind me of this reunion:
CD: Smoke Grenade? Smoke Grenade's crazy. He can't even take care of himself, much less rescue anybody.
Wookie: arooagh
CD: A...stealth buff? I--I'm out of it for a little while, everybody gets delusions of grandeur.
...
CD: Smoke Grenade!
SG: Cloaking Device!
SG: Are you all right?
CD: Fine. Together again, huh?
SG:Wouldn't miss it.
CD:How are we doing?
SG: The same as always.
CD: That bad, huh? Where's Auto-Turret? -
And as long as we're being self-congratulatory, all the people that politely PMed Castle begging for SG to be made auto-hit in PvE should take a bow.
