"Look, the job was simple... Our powerhouse lifts up the building, and we send our erstwhile thief under to clear out the vault.
Maybe we should have used Mr. Muscles as opposed to Butterfingers?" -
Quote:My apologies to have dredged the subject into the thread. it was not my intent to offend anyone's sensibilities. Honestly, I have no love for mindless animated lewdness, I only mentioned the title because I found that the story itself was intense and thought-provoking. I have never seen explicit acts on film as inappropriate per-say if applied in context and not simply thrown in for the sake of throwing it in. But truth be told, I agree wholeheartedly, That it should not be welcome in a public discussion. Sometimes I get so caught up in art being a form of expression, I forget that censorship exists for a reason.*twitch*
I had just spent a half hour updating this...and the thing lost it. And I was on the last damn post too.
*twitch*
Another thing I thought of...no porn. Wicked City/Urotsukidoji, that's porn in my book. Non-negotiable on this point.
But I still hold onto my wonder as to why Akira or Fist of the North Star were not included initially. Just boggles my mind that the two Anime titles that were well known in the U.S. Before the Anime invasion were overlooked. Maybe I am just getting old? -
Quote:I get exactly where you are coming from, and I typically don't go for the standard tentacle-sex stuff myself (Ok, I put Wicked City on my list too, but to be fair, the movie rocked.), But Urotsukidōji was just plain slick. Looking beyond that aspect, it was one of the most spooky and disturbing stories I have seen in Anime to date. You're not serious are you? You might as well throw in Doomed Megalopolis, if you want to see a ***** tentacle monster come OUT through a woman's mouth. *shudders*
But for the OP...

Gratz. Never worry about how long it took to get to 50. I was in almost 2 and a half years before I hit mine. It was never about the destination, it was the journey...

Nope sorry... You have answered incorrectly... however don't feel bad... You won't go home empty handed! Tell 'em Biff Pardue!
That's right John! Our runner's up today have won the Steelclaw Home Game! Ostracize your friends! Be disowned by your family! Be a pariah of society! That's right; it's the Steelclaw Home Game!
Sorry... Mr. Claw is it? I regret to inform you that your marketing front for your home game is strikingly similar to our client Harry Canyon's self titled biography- "That's right, I wrote this myself!" Wherein he mentions all about ostracizing his friends, being disowned by his family, and especially being a Pariah of society. In fact, if there is something in your game mentioning alien abductions or living la vida loca, we will have to confiscate all remaining copies of said game, and may file punitive damages in a court o flaw.

I'm just sitting at 36 here. But you are only as old as you let yourself feel.

Quote:Which brings me back to my OP. The problem here is not so much the new players as much as it is the vets that have become jaded or just plain turned off by recent events. I know the aggravation that comes with playing with people who just don't get it, whether online or in PnP games. But we are not talking about Winterlord or AE babies anymore, we are looking at people who may have recently jumped from our competitions ship, people who have gotten tired of swords and sorcery, or (as in my fiance's case) just upgraded their Aptiva running windows 95 to something a bit more modern. Remember how daunting this world seemed to you when you first came in mask-first, remember how excited you were when you first got hover and took to the skies, and most of all remember how you got left behind when your team was simply more advanced than you and ran off to leave you to your own devices. I know we are a great community, but I have seen a lot of elitism lately, and just wanted to remind those who have let it slip into their vernacular that we were all newbs once.I actually agree with Nethergoat here. I think it's silly to pre-judge someone based on their experience. Yeah, this guy might have been playing longer than that guy, but that doesn't mean he's learned anything in that time, and it doesn't mean the other guy isn't willing to learn some new things.
Some of the coolest people you'll meet and play with in an MMO are newer people, and some of the most obnoxious are the vets who think they're hot stuff when they're not.
I was searching for people to fill in on a team and someone actually had in their search comment: "57 month vet--no blind invites--You better know your **** if you invite me cuz I know I'm good". Yeah, he didn't get a whisper from me asking to team...
Personally, to me attitude is more important than playing ability. Even if you're the greatest player ever if your attitude sucks I won't really wanna play with you.
Cheers, and kudos to those who do the thing that helps others to do theirs! -
Yeah, for me it is like seeing the game again from the eyes I had 5 years ago. It is a joy to give to the rest of the world a taste of the pleasure I have found here. I came for the super leaping, I stay for the people.
Sometimes when cruising the forums I tend to notice a lot of people missing the point of what it is to be new. Sure, I could run circles around some joker in Atlas that has been in game for a week, but my fiance took two hours getting through the tutorial when she first fired up and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Ah... I remember when navigation was a chore for me too (stupid console games, making me reliant on a hand-held controller. -
Don't sweat it PK. I have noticed snobbery all along the ladder lately. Though I will simply ignore the ones that will ruin my playtime, there are times that I just wonder what the hell people were thinking when they subbed to this game. Just the other day, I was on a great PUG that was steamrolling things, and right in the middle of a mission, one player asked if we could go do something else, all the mobs were blue to him (this was due to the fact that we had leveled since entering.) We said that we would do a higher mission after we finished this one, and he got miffed and dumped the team and left.
No pleasing everyone I know, but playing a mission full of blue minions with a team of 8 is better than slogging through a mission of yellow minions alone no? I would never tell someone to shove off due to their attitude (mostly because the internet is full of people who would just see that as the opening to unleash their most untamed monkey on someone who can't simply reach out and punch them in the throat.), but really, I enjoy the game and community not the "phat xp's". Perhaps that is my rung on the snobbery ladder, but at least I never bump anyones camel sideways because I can't open my snickers bar from the side... You know what I mean. -

Quote:I wouldn't be surprised if that part right there has caused more damage than RMT spammers ever could.
You know, I had the same thought when he asked me on the second encounter how to get hold of me should he require assistance again. I had no response other than.... "uh...I'm thinking." I understand the need to keep trial accounts from being used to RMT spam, but it kneecaps those who could be building friends to help enjoy the game so that they will up their trial to a sub.
KHAAAAAAHN! -
I was playing a new Spines Scrapper yesterday, (Yay! I actually want to play one now!) and was running to a mission back in the corner of Atlas by the Perez Park Entrance. Seeing a large group of hellions just begging for a Pounding/Poking, I went to say hello and don't do that. I realized right away that my level 5 was not quite prepared for such a large group but stuck with it thinking that, worst case scenario, A free trip closer to to Atlas via the hosp.
Then it happened...
A character came from behind, and used hurricane to blow some of the riff-raff off of me, buying me the time I needed to recover. The extra aggro he earned caused them to drop, but I slipped em a wakie. They stated in local that they were sorry that they were not any help, to which I replied that he was more help than he knew, and if it were not for him I would have been taking the fast train to morphene town. Instinctively, I checked badges... One exploration badge, nothing else. He asked me if I could help him fight some "Robots", I said sure, and he ran off towards the corner. I asked him to team with me, and he complied. I saw that he, as I suspected, was hunting clockwork. I helped him to tackle his remaining hunt, and mentioned that he seemed new and if he required any assistance. He told me that he was on a trial account, and had just began to play. He did not know anything outside of the four levels he had earned.
He jumped into a group of purples, and died, so I followed him to the pavement. He asked "Now what?" I told him to go to the hospital. At the hospital, he couldn't figure out how to get out of the infirmary, so I directed him to the lobby, and back to the street. He asked me if I wanted any enhancements since he didn't have room, I told him to sell them. He indicated that he did not know you could do that, and where it was. I showed him the hero corps venders and told him that he could find one in almost every zone. I spent an hour showing him the basics, and inquired if he needed any other assistance. he replied no, and I quit the team.
This would have been the end of it, if not for the fact that he managed to contact me via another player (Forgot trials can't send tells or invite to team.) a short time later... "How do I go to other places than atlas?" I told him to check his map for the "T" which was the tram. His response?
"You can take a tram?! SWEET!" He couldn't find the map, so I told him to click his nav button above his health bar. I recieved a message so full of revelation and elation and saw him heading off to the tram. He thanked me for all the help (So many thx, and KKthx I thought i was playing WoW), and quit the team.
I am currently teaching my fiance to play (Just got a second computer, and she never wanted to get hooked and have to fight over who got to play... And that's why she is my fiance.) And have noticed a lot of new players rushing the city. I understnd that AE has left many people with a foul taste in their mouth for Noobs, but as math will tell you, "Not all Newbs are Noobs, though Noobs can be Newbs." or something like that, I was never that good at the maths. This player on "Justice" went by the name of "Lazer Beam", and had said that no one else would talk to or help him, and thouroughly absorbed the play experience with all the wonder I did when I first started playing back in 04'. For all you vets like me, please remember that a lack of vet badges does not make someone the enemy, they could potentially be your newest teammate or supergroup member. and we should welcome them to the game like we used to. We all needed help at some point, and there is a lot of new blood eager to sample the best Super Hero MMO online.
Let's remember to show em why. We are a great community, not an exclusive club. Now get out there and help out a Newb! -
Well, there is something I am asked very infrequently...
Back in third grade, I got home from school in time to catch "Heavy Metal" on HBO in the afternoon (Kinda dating myself here.) Being very impressionable, and drawn to anything animated, I always loved finding it and watching that very movie. I finally got my own copy somewhere in 8th grade, and played it till it was ragged and I could recite every line in perfect iambic pentameter("Oh wow, good nyborg man." "Sternnn! he's nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, back-stabbing, larcenous, perverted ,worm. Hangings too good for em, burnings too good for em. He should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive!" ect...).
I always fancied myself to be an observant fellow, always finding hidden jokes and secret meanings everywhere. But it wasn't until I was 18 years old, and had just found a new vhs copy (Pre-special edition) when I suddenly clicked on the entendre of the cabbies name in the first segment. Ever since, I have used this name for forum handles, E-Mail names, even characters. Though I have used "Iacon" (Autobot base on Cybertron) on rare occasions, I will always be Harry Canyon or Uncle Harry to many.
And that is the genesis of my insanity... -

Quote:That's an odd comment, my DB/WP Brute was one of my fastest leveling toons.
Not only mine as well, but my first 50. It seems that working the combos at high fury is a devastating sight to behold. No other AT/Power combo meshes with my mindset as much as this. DB/WP FTW!! (For me)
Unusual combos to me would be Psi/Elec Blaster, Stone/EM tanks, and Emp/Elec Defenders. Though I have one of each, I never seem to run into any. -
Gratz. I myself had the pleasure of hitting my first 50 about a year ago. Mine was a villain, and was followed shortly thereafter by my first hero. It took a long time for me due to my altoholism and ADD-like method of selecting characters to play. It is a treat to reach the goal, and as was said before...
You always remember your first. But never forget that the ones that follow will hold special place in your heart.
Now get to work on that Kheld. It is not going to achieve Symbiosis with you just sitting there. -

Do you mean the appearence that they have been caught in a taffy puller, or the dark "skid marks" left by juvenile superspeeders attempting to cop a "super-feel"? Either way, I bet her therapist is either rich or suicidal. -

As usual, I chime in with my .02 influence.
Remember this above all about college...
The main problem they want you to solve is how well you cope with hurdles. The coursework is oftentimes simplistic and more like busy-work. The real challenge of college is overcoming the bureaucracy you will meet in day to day college life. These are the life-lessons one truly learns in college. Everything else is just facts.
Considering I would have pegged you to be much older, you will fly by if you can survive financial aid, poor advisers, obnoxious roomies, and RUSH WEEK!!
Enjoy. College is a blast!

I noticed that in the necro'd thread as I was reading through it again after all these years. I remembered reading that post then, but it was so long ago, I checked the poster to make sure he was not just some impostor...
I Lol'd
Even checking his post history was like dancing among the echoes of a long-forgotten hallucination; A reflection of the mirage that seemed to recall to me "Hey! No matter how bad things may seem, the light is definitely greener where you are." -
