I always get the same GM when I report bugs because they're always doozies. I've had so much stuff hand-granted to my characters it's surreal.

Quote:By the time you outgrow the T rating, you can no longer be tried as a minor. I know the sight of tossing 3D cartoon characters in a dumpster might be too gruesome for 19-year-olds, but it isn't likely to change the rating.What I have to wonder is how "New Mercy" hasn't bumped up the age rating of the game.
Well, you did knowingly work for Dr. Graves. If you're going for the dignified route, street sweep to level 5 and go work for Mr. Bocor as your first contact. -
Doing the new tutorial, which supposedly takes place in a destroyed Galaxy City, I was intrigued with exactly where everything was taking place in reference to the ordinary non-destroyed Galaxy City. The zone was largely gutted and designed as a sort of skyscraper-bounded channel that you're guided to from start to finish, but there is still a visible landmark: the statue of Galaxy Girl.
Most easily seen straight-on after you make the left turn, it seems Galaxy City had been renovating like Atlas Park and ultimately decided to pave over the top of an existing warehouse:
Guiding by landmarks, that's the location of the new area, but geographically (read: XYZ coordinates), it's actually smack dab between Nebula District and Constellation Row. The roads don't line up exactly (since the zone was gutted and redesigned), but it's pretty close:
It's worth noting that the statue of Galaxy Girl originally faced to the east, but now faces south, presumably to get a better view of the destruction.
When you're fighting the Giant Shivan, you're just north of the grassy area in front of Freedom Plaza. Or, rather, with the cardinal directions all screwed up, you'd be just east of there. The statue was mostly obstructed by an attention hog just as I took the picture, but the following images are still aligned:
Afterwards, I opted to be teleported into the Longbow safe zone, which as far as I know is just a different combat phase from the Arachnos safe zone. In any case, the statue is still visible from there if you jump over to the left:
Relative to the statue, if that can be considered canon, then the crater you're standing in with that safe zone is the exact former location of Cygnus Medical Center.
Later in the game, when you do Twinshot's or Dr. Graves's arcs, you end up in an instance of Galaxy City ravaged by meteors. It takes place in the northeast corner of the zone, and you can see some direct demolition between that map and the actual Galaxy City:
However, the west edge of that map is within spitting distance of the hospital and Yellow Line. There's just a big building in the way, distinctly not as destroyed as the same area apparently was in the tutorial. A little demo editing to move the camera to the other side reveals something interesting:
When Numina was lamenting the loss of the hospital in Galaxy City, I'd assumed it got squashed by a big alien rock, but as we can see here, it outright skipped town. Where did it go? It truly is lost!
The Architect Entertainment building suffered a similar fate, much to Dr. Aeon's dismay. There's a building at its location near the Arena, but it's not the AE building. Plus, that skyscraper immediately in front of the Yellow Line seems to have moved forwards 50 feet or so, so perhaps the Shivans can teleport buildings? -
Quote:I'm using the OSI definition, which funnily enough happens to say something to the effect of "the Network layer of the network model is about how networks communicate." You may not encounter many people who identify that each interface on a router connects to a network or subnetwork, but then again, does anyone really know what that machine is called that Zamboni makes? (It's an "ice resurfacer," should anyone feel like being clever)That's probably Cisco training jargon. That's not the standard use of the term "network" as its generally used professionally. At least, that hasn't been my experience.
In any case, "network" used to describe chunks of a system separated by routing is quite common among those who design and maintain those systems, and the students I was observing were being fed quite a contradictory definition. To me, it's equivalent to saying food comes in tin cans, when they're in fact usually steel. It makes a significant difference should someone need to decide what to make a can out of at some point.
Quote:However, if it has a Wifi access point or offers DHCP, its definitely not a bridge, or rather its not exclusively a bridge. In that case, it is a single device with a bridge/modem to the internet and a router/NAT connecting to the modem on one side and the internal and wifi address space on the other side(s) of the router.
Quote:Speaking of jargon, be careful about calling generic things autonomous systems on the internet. The definition you give above is the descriptive colloquial definition. The technical definition of an autonomous system on the internet is the set of networks operating under a single ASN. If it doesn't have a single ASN, its not an AS, period.
Whatever the case, that's not what a network is, despite people calling it that. -
*Waves at the web devs*
Hey, just us, your friendly users, noting how you never seem to have anything to say about the issue. -
Let's see, it's been three days? A couple more and you'll have yourself a month.

Domain name camping for the digital age. Right here, right now!

In case anyone's wondering why I don't have any Guy Perfect characters, now you know.

If they bring back the old Brawl sound, they also have to bring back the old water-splash sound.

Quote:As a certified networking specialist (CCNA if you care), I was sitting in on a computer concepts class at the local community college when they were talking about networking. Those poor students were required to remember the definition of "network," which was something along the lines of "all of the interconnected computing devices under a single administration."Remember, if you're in a specific field of study, your jargon will be different than the common vernacular (hence it being jargon)! One's not right and the other wrong... it's that there's special rules and the need for such.
"Network" as a technical term describes a data-link broadcast domain. You use switches to expand a network, and you use routers to connect networks. That is to say, if you "have a router in your network," you actually manage more than one network. All of the interconnected computing devices under a single administration can be called whatever you want it to be called, but if it's connected to the internet, they call it an autonomous system.
Furthermore, that box in the garage between your home "network" and the internet is not a router. It's a bridge with a switch attached. Bonus points for being a wireless access point and/or DHCP server.
So next time you talk about how you "have a router in your network," consider that you might just have a bridge on the edge of your broadcast domain.

I'm going to go so far as to say that the mission content in Port Oakes and Cap au Diable (as well as the rest of redside) isn't really in need of updating. They did it right the first time, unlike most of blueside.
-
Also bear in mind that the Henchmen must be under the effects of Supremacy for Bodyguard to work. This requires them to be in fairly close range, and line-of-sight is required.

If it can farm, it can probably do everything else. Is it your intention to make another "What's the best farmer?" thread?

Using powers already in the game, you can kinda cobble together a Tech Control set:
* Web Grenade
* Web Coccoon
* Wide Area Web Grenade
* Caltrops
* Taser
* Sleep Grenade
* Stun Grenade
* EM Pulse/EMP Arrow/EMP Grenade/Something EMPy
* Flying Turret(s) of some sort -
Quote:I'm gonna have to say yes to that one. Lord Recluse attempted to secure a future where The Web sapped every hero in the entire world of their powers and allowed him to take over. The plan failed for the same reason the Keyes Isle one did: player characters (not local governments) stepped in to stop him.So, you're saying that the IDF don't possess far superior technology, far greater resources and don't constitute the biggest threat Earth has ever faced?
If anything, the characters we create are more powerful than Arachnos. But Praetoria certainly has some work to do. -
Arachnos overpowered the IDF and nearly destroyed Keyes Island. Just sayin'.

I think they would do well to reduce the Reward and Alignment Merit costs of recipes. Or at the very least reconsider the rarity of certain items.
The other day I gathered up a full set of purples from the market. They weren't the most popular purples, but they weren't exactly cheap either. I raised money to buy them by selling recipes earned with Alignment Merits (where oranges never go for more than 2). Enhancements: 6. Total Alignment Merits spent: 6. Normal price per Enhancement (in this set): 20.
This means I spent 1 Alignment Merit per Enhancement, spending a mere twentieth of the price the devs pretend they're worth. Working with three characters for tips, I had all six in 4 days instead of the month and a half the devs want you to spend to get just one of them.
It should be noted, however, that I ultimately got six purples by trading three oranges. This indicates that the rarities of some items are terribly disproportionate to their perceived worth by players. -

Beam Rifle has lower base damage as a design consideration. Its bonus comes from Disintegrate, which is most effective if you spend more of your time shooting than buffing.
If you're into the buffing thing, be wary because taking the time to cast patches and heal allies and whatever else will get that Disintegration to wear off, meaning your attacks will end up doing less damage in the long run compared to someone who doesn't buff. For that reason, I'd recommend Corruptor over Defender.
