Quote:I may try this. Its bound to be entertaining.I got healing badges on Ambunaught by, mostly, just responding to teams that said "looking for healer." I know, it's a Defender forum punch line, but it's a punch line for a REASON.
Edit: Well, I tried it on a few teams, got a bit of progress. Then Virtue went on a crazy RWZ raid marathon. I only had to stick around for 3 - filled the last half of my progress bar long before the third raid ended. These were raids with 6+ teams, so there were a lot of people to heal. -
First thing I thought on seeing the thread title was: "We are living in the glory days." For melee, softcaping is getting to be SOP. I have a softcapped permadom that can mez everything on every spawn *and* kill it damn fast. We have softcapped freaking blasters running around.
People are letting nostalga overwhelm good sense here. -
I just want to say, thanks everyone for this thread. Its been worth quite a few good laughs. Oh, and Blue, the line "alligator mouth with a hummingbird butt" is going in my quote file.

I'm going with "hell no" to MA. Even if it does come out with the best theoretical ST DPS the damage will be hugely worse in-game vs hard PvE targets. Virtually all of those targets have serious s/l resists and having an AS that's pure s/l is just painfully bad compared to those with other damage types. Voice of experience here.

Quote:1) See PvP placate bug.3. Ideally, I think Assassin Strike should come with different buffs or debuffs for each set, like Spines can apply poison dot damage after AS. This won't happen but I think it will make each AS more interesting.
2) Keep your hands off my spines AS. That change would break BU+AS+Placate in PvE.
Edit: To clarify, I'm not against the idea of (PvE) AS applying some kind of debuff. No dots.
I want to see stalkers do more damage through stalking. Not more scrapping. I'd like to see hide/AS/placate mechanics altered so stalkers can get repeated controlled crits in the same fight (without running away for 8 seconds). Obviously some limitations would need to apply, and I'm not sure how the mechanics should be altered exactly to achieve this, but that's the general direction Stalkers should go IMO. -
waht? o.O
Seriously though, glad you're loving brutes. I've found it pretty hard to go back to tanks when I can survive 99% of the game well enough on a brute and do so much more SMASH! (I even off-tanked Recluse last night on my SS/DA when the tank died and had to run back) -
Well, my PB has been lvl 6 for about 3 years, so I can't comment on my experience. With the previous toggle changes and I19 coming I'm planning to level him as a human blapper style build with Dwarf as an emergency BF/Escape/extra res&heal (mostly chosing this build for variety - my WS is triform forever). Should be interesting.

Adding more S/L def will do literally nothing for you, because that's not how defense works. See Arcanaville's guide to defense in the guide section.
Basically, only the highest applicable type of defense is used in calculations. i.e. if you get attacked with a melee/lethal attack and your lethal def = 20 while melee is 45+, then the hit calculation is done w/ 45. And since all* attacks in the game have a positional component... typed def is useless to you.
*There are a couple exceptions. Dominate and Mezmerize, I think? Been a while. -
Quote:I keep seeing this sentiment repeated, and it bugs me. I leveled my SS/DA brute to 50 pre IOs and it was playable and fun back then. It did take some serious work adjusting slotting to manage end, and I could understand someone making a statement like this preIOs.
Dark Armor almost needs to be paired with Dark Melee, IMO.
But these days? Intelligent frankenslotting = you don't have end problems, and Miracle+Numinas+TheftoEss+Perf.Shifter = lol end. DA also has enough defense that it can be combined with IO bonuses for extreme effectiveness. Recharge bonuses and hasten with Dark Regen mean that in order to die, I have to lose almost all of my HP, heal, and then lose it all again in less than 10-15 seconds. If a mob can't kill me in less than 15 seconds (while I'm Footstomping and possibly using mez auras for extra mitigation) then they can't kill me.
Is DM/DA great? Absolutely. But there's a whole world of other combinations out there that are crazy effective and fun. I just hate to see an old preIO based player perception (which was only sorta true back then) keep people from experimenting with DA now. -
Quote:Yea, I'm aware. I wouldn't want to create a character with that much anti-synergy and rely on a known bug to cope.Actually it's very easy to get Rage to recharge before it runs out. If you overlap Rage you avoid the -Def penalty, although you still get the -Damage penalty. That's what I do with my Shields brute.
Castle has said in the past he considers the Rage crash broken; he doesn't like people being able to sidestep the crash. But hopefully if/when he does address this he comes up with a new solution because the a big drop in Def is basically a death sentence for SR or Shields. -

Edit: to clarify, this is the one described by SoftRogue above -
On a more useful note: Arcana posted some details on the mechanics of the power somewhere shortly after I18 release. I'll see if I can find it...

Moderately long thread, but very useful information throughout. -
I'm kinda tired of these - they occur all across praetoria. Massive ambushes that are just impossible. I didn't see a consolidated thread for listing them. Maybe tomorrow's patch will include a fix, but if not, list them here.

Quote:Nonsense, I'm sure they were just confused about my name. I consider the fact that I leveled my Fire/Fire tank from 28+ in I5 a sign of how much I love the characterHey, at least they remembered me. That's a plus, in my book. Might be biased though.
@OP: Tanks are great. Other ATs can be freakishly awesome too though - sounds like you may have some playstyle/build issues with them. I'd highly recommend the guide stickies in the individual class sections. Some may be out of date, but much remains unchanged and there's a lot of good info there. -
1) Monitor your damage bonus - when it turns glaring red, rage has crashed. Its the only way I ever recognize it on time.
2) I'd wouldn't go SS/SR just because rage has a -def penalty and SR relies almost completely on defense. YMMV. -
Quote:Theft of Essence +End proc for dark regen is highly useful, as it has a chance to proc off every foe hit.Only downside of KM/Dark is that it is kinda a end hog. Try and nab some recovery, and the Preformace Shifter proc, and the Numina and Miracale unique.
I played my SS/DA to 50 preIOs and managed just fine (although it did take some careful experimentation/slotting to balance end/damage/survivability). Now I have all 4 enhancements listed above, and end... isn't an issue. IMO DA doesn't have end issues these days unless you're doing it wrong. -

/agree w/ nalrok that it will work very well. PS+Fury+damage aura = nasty and KM's mitigation will complement DA just fine.

Quote:Nah. i19 will have a freespec with it. And you won't be getting any new slots. Basically you can have the exact same build but with 3 more unslotted powers. Or you could rearrange slots. But i19 is months away.Suggest waiting to reconstruct him until after issue 19 arrives as Fitness is supposed to turn into an inherent power pool.
That build will definitely be good, but it could be a lot better. I'm aiming my invuln characters for one of three routes:
1) softcapping s/l with 1 enemy in invinc, then as much +rech as I can manage
2) getting 32% def to s/l/e/n with 1 enemy in invinc (so one small purple insp softcaps) then as much recharge as possible
3) max recharge and just ignore defense. at +8 you will have lots of insp drop, and invinc+purples may well be enough to keep you softcapped most of the time anyway.
I'm leaning strongly towards #2 because I like middle of the road balanced builds. Sounds like you (the OP) may be a #3 kinda person -

I just want to say: I was around when this thread was first posted, and I'm still waiting.

On a more serious note: this is an ongoing issue. I was unable to log into Virtue last night when I created the thread. This afternoon I was able to log into Champion, and once to Virtue, but when I logged out again to change characters.... DB Served. Now completely unable to get past server selection.
