Quote:I've wondered if they were working on something to that effect for awhile. I do hope it happens eventually.Hm, can the queues be some kind of road to cross server teaming?
Not sure what to think of all this... I'll probably have to wait to play these a bit to see if I like them. I am a little leery of larger team requirements, as I like to be able to do things whenever and even with a small group of people. TFs are sometimes a little big, even, but they fit the bill quite well.
I am still trying to figure out how any team should be able to do these trials, but they will still be a challenge... and non-alpha people can do them as well. That's a rather broad range. I'll be curious to see how this goes with PUGs as well. Hopefully better than queue systems for WoW... most PUGs I joined there did not do well on their various challenges. -
Quote:Looking at the Very Rare boost level for Musculature in Mid's, I beg to differ. My En/En Blaster is not going to be nice to the mobs with that buff going.I was thinking this way as well. Then I started thinking about how Defiance works. I started monitoring my damage numbers at all times.
What I found was that our inherent power, stacking with build up, stacking with Assault (in my case at least) leads to some very impressive damage numbers. Numbers that, in my opinion, are hardly going to show improvement with Musculature Alpha.
I am not saying it won't help, not at all. I have Musculature Alpha slotted right up until last night.
So far in my testing I'm finding I don't miss the Musculature, and still watch as the numbers bounce quite high from the stacking of attacks... with Spiritual, I am missing the additional 33 percent? (which is partially ED'd off the map), but I am seeing HoB up seconds faster.
Just food for thought. We're talking about 100 more damage from Nova, 80 more from Total Focus, and 40 from Power Burst. That adds up, and I will take it.
Spiritual is going to be great for my Dual Pistols Blaster, though. He has Aid Self, and as you noted in your later post, the alpha slot can help his healing and recharge, so it helps him to recover and do damage more often with his best powers. I may or may not go to the very rare level with him, though, as the recharge bonus isn't that noticeable (two seconds faster for Build up and HoB).
You may be right... I don't know the proc well. It does have a chance to fire with each target for sure, which means that it's likely going to go off when used on a mob... near guaranteed recharge can be nice in that situation. -
Yeah, I'd be leery of ever saying "every damage aura should have a full set of Multi-strikes," as every build is different and has different needs. It does have decent defense bonuses if that's what you are going for, not to mention the goodly amounts of end reduction. I've used 4 eradication/2 Multi before on my Dark Armor (read, endurance hungry), and that worked well for his defense and end reduc needs.

Still running tonight with the current group, correct? Odinn is 49 and still needs to get to 50, so I hope so.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Excellent call on the dev's part. Endgame and more content for CoH, yes. Making this game like WoW, not so much.

Quote:Do we know what this pack is going to cost? Kind of curious, as it does seem to have more than other packs... but maybe I'm not sure how many pieces were in the magic, etc., packs. All of my toons will be getting a furry costume slot.
In terms of bang for the buck, this is one of the best packs we've seen:
60 new pieces
6 new emotes
2 new auras
1 new travel power
What a value!
It does seem like a decent pack if you like the animal theme. I don't really have any characters like that, though, so I'm out of luck on this one. Probably for the best though, as otherwise I'm sure I'd be grousing about why unique things to the game like a different run mode, so many costume pieces, etc., are not being added to the game without an issue.
As usual... I'm hoping we keep seeing good costume additions with each issue, or these packs will start to really rub me the wrong way. -
Isn't the percentage increase between the rare and very rare higher than that between the uncommon and rare? It seems like it makes a big difference from what I can see in mids, especially if you go for the 45% enhancement version (looking at that for my En/En Blaster makes me want to get him to 50 NOW).
For some characters, I won't care about that too much. I'm going to get GP to the very rare, but more because it's going to boost his resists even higher. For some of my characters, the rare is going to be good enough because of the level shift. Two of my blasters don't really need to go higher for the Spiritual Boosts, for instance. Having RoA or Hail of Bullets up 4-5 seconds sooner isn't worth that much investment, I don't think. -
Quote:And even then, it depends on what you mean by insanely good. I enjoy almost all the fire sets, but there are pros and cons to all of them. I'm sure he's looking at the good offense numbers for Fire as well, which are there for a reason. I'll take the extra mitigation most other sets have over that, usually. I actually ending up rolling a Fire/Fire Dom instead of a Blaster, more because of the extra mitigation than anything. I like a little mitigation for my Blasters. The point you happily choose to miss is that balance works both ways. If a couple of sets are performing at insanely good levels...it doesn't automatically mean that every other set needs to move up.
For the rest of your post, I would agree. Sets need to perform well enough, but they don't have to be a top set, either. I could almost see the devs thinking they don't want to make any new sets clearly the best, as there would be just as many, if not more complaints, about that.
Whoops, I remember thinking they were procs. Never mind, then. -
Quote:You're kind of dissing the ability of the animators for the game. They could use the exact same animations and have people be annoyed, sure, or they could lengthen how long some of them take to attack (Empty Clips would make more sense to fire off more rounds, anyway... I seem to recall the MM one only firing 3-4 shots), add in another move to the animation that was still not too "flashy," etc. Most likely because the mastermind attacks that share the name are very different attacks. The animation times don't mesh up in any of the cases. DP Empty Clips is about ten frames longer than the MM version. If the same animations were used, there would be a noticeable pause after the animation 'finished' similar to what people experience with the pool power heals.
How many complaints do you think you'd hear about a set where people saw themselves being unable to do anything between attacks, even if the numbers were identical?
I'm sure they would aim for the latter things, which is probably why they weren't done. Someone decided it was more work than they have time for. I think it's unfortunate and would question that judgment, but it is what it is. And who knows, maybe they didn't have time to do it so Dual Pistols could be a pre-order perk, and haven't had time since to add those in. -
Quote:Little known secret, those can proc off of each target hit, for some crazy temporary recharge. Can't recall if that's WAI, or just something they haven't gotten around to fixing yet.Bass, why'd you go with FF procs in Bullet Rain and Empty Clips?
I have the -RES proc in Empty Clips (and in Pistols). I'm debating putting a +DMG proc in Bullet Rain (chance for smashing) but considering the FF.
What's the logic?
Me, I'm using the -res proc and prefer that myself. Once my build is done, I don't feel like I'm going to need a lot more recharge, personally. Doing more damage on hard targets is more appealing to me. -
Quote:I'm rather surprised they couldn't figure out a way to do it when developing the set, or at least adjusting the pistols attacks from the Thugs set as needed to make it work. They know we want alternate animations for just about everything, and they already had some to hand. Why not do it, even with just those three they had? Mystifying.I love the current Dual Pistols animations. I am completely behind those who want alternate animations. I know the animation team could do some that looked great, while being more sedate. It might not be worth it sadly, but it is not a matter of can't, but rather a matter of can't squeeze it in the schedule.
But yes, I like the animations just fine as they are. It'd be fun to see what else they could come up with, though. Even a trick coin shot for Bullet Rain could be interesting (Xenosaga did it, why can't CoH?). -
I'd reply more, but I don't have time around grading this weekend. I do, however, have a Fire/Fire guide right in my signature. Check it out to help you revise your build more if you want: it has good ideas for a lot of the powers, how to slot, etc.
-
Fire/Dark might be rather interesting. Two heals (one combined with a good melee attack), Dark's heavy ST damage would also be complimented by Fire's good AOE capability. And ohhhhh, goodness. Soul Drain + Fiery Embrace could be extremely powerful. Soul Drain is already ridiculous, but pairing that with a power that adds Fire damage to your attacks based on your base damage at the time... yikes.
Fiery Aura also rolls well at the early levels. A Self Heal and end recovery mechanism is nice while you are leveling up. -
Reading how the level shift works, it's not supposed to affect your HP at all. Things like to hit and resistance due to level differences are affected. It's in all the descriptions of how the level shift works, so check it out. Not sure why your heal was changed at all, given that, unless those powers were affected by the alpha you slotted... or maybe heals do go up as you level. Don't recall if any are like that... I just know controls do change as you level (hold duration, etc.).
-
I believe mine were slower than usual. Comparing numbers probably isn't that helpful, since your connection, other work on your network, etc., can affect that as well.

Quote:Unknown means they're getting close to being back up, silly. And it's not like starting five minutes late (or ten) makes things a loss. Such a doomer all of a sudden!Well, it's 15 minutes till we are supposed to begin and status is still "unknown". Looks like this week may be a loss. Annoying, but not a big deal I guess. Looks like we will have a fair number of people for the next Isos run when we start it, just wondering if people are wanting to run heroes side or villain side. Also, are we going to start in Pratoria again? So far I haven't seen anyone say anything against it. What are your opinions?
-
Quote:Yeah, that sounds kind of busy.I've been sitting on the sidelines pretty much, waiting for the wrap-up of this one to rejoin. After I got back from Afghanistan in November, I switched jobs and moved to the other side of Florida... So, I've been really out of sorts. I figure everything is mostly back in order now :P
Supposedly the servers will be back up soon so we can start on time for Isos, but we'll see. Think I need to update my game first as well. -
Yes, you always love your Shivans a bit too much, but you have been posting about it a lot more. Here + your Festivus thread=your latest thing to grouse/talk about. It's not like we don't all have things that bother us more at random times, whether they really should or not.

Quote:Now, with the T3 and T4 Alphas out, methinks a rehash if this entire discussion might be necessary. Very necessary. 45% damage above ED cap? Uhhhhh.... hard to pass up if I can get the perma hasten without the alpha...
Might keep recharge slotted until I can achieve that and immediately switch. Just a thought.
? Who wasn't taking this into account earlier? I know some people did, me included. It still is going to depend on where you want to go overall with your build, no matter what. -
Quote:There's no Shivan requirement to do any content in CoH or CoV. It's just Satanic Hamster latest thing to talk about.I was suprised the the LRSF went so well. The final fight went better than I have ever done it before.
If there's still room for Friday night's STF, I am up for it with Kellie, my Ill/Kin controller.
I'll go get Shivans, too.. I didn't get any last night because when I found out it was an LRSF, it was too late to get them. Sorry, S. Hamster.
P.S. if there's room on the STF tonight, I'll be on with Kellie as well!! -
Quote:Why is that odd? It encourages running of all levels of content, something CoH has been known for, what with Orobouros and all. If the Strike Target is just going to be a cycling of the 45+ TFs, they have a lot of incentive already. They're obviously going to use those, but only using those would be a mistake, in my opinion.Running lower level TFs for incarnates during which your incarnate stuff will be locked? I doubt it.
Quote:I'm hoping for a week where it's the KHTF!!
That 50 tf badge is gonna be brutal for me.
As for the 50 TF thing... yeah. At best, I don't think I would get that for a year or two... I only have enough time for TFs every week. I bet Death Conqueror twitched a bit when he saw that one.
I thought it was going to be in the MotD as well. Nothing on the launcher right now. -
Quote:Bah, my Fiery Aura Tanker never died on that part of Apex. Dark Armor is clearly just weaker than Fiery Aura! Mwahahaha!I always preface that with "on the very rare occasion that it happens."
Like when I decided I could skip the hydra and solo the pylon on my first Apex TF. I killed it; it just took me a second try.
I might have had a few buffs on me and had enough time to proactively use Healing Flames and pop an orange inspiration, though. Maybe.
For the OP, it's hard to say without knowing a bit more about your build and exact conditions you are seeing. The +40 game is more challenging than other parts of CoH, remember, so you do have to adapt and build for that more than other parts of the game. It's also helpful to have good tactics... you usually want to avoid triple pulls, anyway, given the aggro cap and other things like that. Teams can work on more than that, but it is harder to do. -
Quote:Well, depends on what you mean by better. You're doing all of 20 damage more per hit, but with your accuracy boost more than halved. Recharge and Endurance aren't improved that much either (not that Scorch needs much in either).Yes I agree that the kin combats are not cheap and the best way to get them seems to be a-merits as 2 of them are only 1 a-merit each, the other 2 are 2 a-merits each and 1 isn't for sale with a-merits.
While you don't get fantastic numbers it's better then only 3 mako in a power
For me, the accuracy is much better, as I want Scorch to hit when I want it to hit. But either way, you're at least getting a max hp boost, which is nice when you get enough of those together. Just wish Healing Flames was affected by having a higher max hp.
Anyway, like I said, just have a good end goal and make sure you get there. The extra defense is nice on your build, but I didn't want to short Scorch too much on the accuracy. -
Quote:Looks like they are putting it in the Announcements section, so no need to roam around looking for it. Though it sounds like people were impatient for them to put it up earlier. What I want the most now is a roaming link for a sig that would redirect to the new post for the TF of the week, so we don't have to roam the forums looking for it.
I think this is a good idea, especially if they encourage lower level TFs with it. Those 45+ ones have a lot of encouragement already, what with shards, etc. If not, it's not going to do all that much. Though it might encourage some people to try out some TFs they haven't done much. I've personally been avoiding the STF with the new Incarnate stuff, not sure why. So GP is going for it this weekend, I guess.
