How was that post worthy of that comment? He pointed out that there are many comic book elements in game, and responded to the rest of the original post.
But eh, just leave it. I feel like we have a lot of tight and classic superhero options already, but more patterns for them probably would be a good thing. -
Quote:I had some stuff earlier in the thread. I think you can basically sum it up as "are there plans to adjust Kheldians in the next issue or so, especially Peacebringers?" Hopefully that's general enough and like the badge questions you got answered, but who knows.Anything specific you want to know? I'll be back there on Sunday, and if you think you've got a question that they can actually answer, I'll be happy to ask it.
Peacebringers are quite honestly the most clear AT/Powerset I can think of that has some adjustments needed (other than Devices). Its mezzing capabilities do not stack (and are weaker on their own than Warshades), and their +damage and pet powers are clearly not as good as Warshades, either. They're not as terrible as some people would like you to believe, but the above are obvious issues. I keep hoping an adjustment is going to happen, yet nothing does. I would love to hear some good news on this.
*sighs* Though if they stay true to form, they'll keep working a lot on these new powersets and not do much on old sets that still need a little something. Hopefully you can get some news to cheer me up in that regard. And hopefully "are they in sight for the next issue or so" is open enough... even if it isn't, I hope you don't mind asking.
Quote:Chad, RE: the Tunnel Trial
It's in the video and looks cool, but it screams "if you're tired of caves, you'll hate this too". While I don't think it's Praet only, and maybe I'm mixing with the Praet Hamidon being Praet only(?), the trial is open to everyone, right?
I had read/heard that something coming in I21 was NOT going to be open to non-Praet characters and I kind of shook my head in disappointment.
Chad or anyone, how big is the Underground Trial? If it's 16 rather than 24, that will make them less claustrophobic as well.
*added*
Oh, and thanks for the Street Justice info, Chad. Sounds nifty, though I don't like powers that can switch from Stun to Hold... makes slotting trickier (ran into this with Dual Pistols). I think I may go with SJ/EA as well, rather than SS/EA, just to not double dip powersets at all, and because it sounds cool the more I hear about it. -
The new Defender set is an overlay of tights, and the IDF does not look anime at all. Just like a futuristic armor set, which is all over in a variety of comics. The glowie costume bits have a Thor and GL feeling to them, which might not be your cup of tea, but calling all this City of Anime is... kind of not accurate.
-
Lag also makes it annoying if you're trying to move out of patches of doom in Apex, and it's worse in trials, alas.
-
Well, it's good to keep in mind how much stuff is coming with I21 for VIP types, free of extra points purchases. I just let my DOOM! get powerful when I hear about new powersets being locked behind purchases. I really don't think it's a good idea... they're even commenting about how great they tried to make the new sets since they're for purchase. Does that mean they can't release any middle of the road but interesting sets, and players can complain that a set is like Dual Pistols and solidly middle of the road for performance? They shouldn't, but they're opening themselves up for such criticism to be more valid.
I think there is a fine line with this F2P stuff where you want to be careful with what you lock behind purchases. We'll see how it goes. Still excited about most of the stuff that is on the way. Street Justice's one picture that I have seen looks awesome. -
Quote:I hope they're just talking up the two new purchasable powersets, but even then, I do not like how this sounds. "We can phone it in more with non-purchasable sets" is almost how that comes across, which is a bad impression to give."With it being a powerset you'll have to buy we went overboard with the effects. IF you get this set you'll not be disappointed."
I get that they want to make them seem worthwhile to players, but... that's kind of what you want to do with all of them. It would have been far better just to talk about how awesome the sets are (from how they look, etc.) and not mention this angle at all. -
Quote:I would agree. We already have a visual indicator when the contact is selected, they're on the map, and they have a little ring around their feet. I don't think they're that hard to see, and the ring is kind of immersion breaking enough.Basically everything that samuel said here
I hope that feature to have the quest giver can be turned off.
I don't really find it to be a bad idea for someone new to the game. You can skip over the tab if you want, and the help is there for new players. Letting new players get into things more easily is a good thing.
Which article is that? I haven't seen anything anywhere talking about indicators over contacts heads, so more info would be nice. -
Quote:I suppose some will like it, but I like my maces to be maces. I was kind of sad that it seemed like they combined the two. But it's a new mace and axe option, so I will take it.Heh, that was actually my first thought seeing the mace. Very nice use of design time, two weapons for one design.
Zombie, it's nice to know that we'll get the rewards all at once, but buying a year ahead of time isn't really an option for me, nor for other people (or so I would imagine). Good on you if it is, but I wouldn't call it an easy option for everyone. -
Just to clarify... how does the mass stun and obliteration beam work, exactly? It seemed to me like I would get stunned, stand there a long while, and then if I hopped away I wouldn't get hit... but now it sounds like the two are entirely separate.
I know there are guides out there on this, but I never felt super clear on this point and how it worked.
Also, which terminals are you not supposed to kill? There are the ones on the reactor, which you have to get, then the ones I thought you needed to hit to stop Anti-Matter from regenerating. Are there other ones that you should not hit, or what?
*sighs* Still wish these badges were more fun or made more sense to do, at least for some of them. Bunker Buster is straightforward, but seems kind of pointless in terms of what you need to do for the Trial, to name one. -
Other posters have said this, and I kind of have the sinking feeling (when I give into the DOOM!) they are right: the devs are going to release things like powersets that have to be purchased with points, in order to make subscribers soak up their points more quickly and want to pay more money. On the one hand, it sounds like a sound fiscal strategy. On the other, it makes me feel like I'd be getting less for being a VIP (and if you're like me, it's hard enough to justify a subscription at times, let alone even more money for the game).
If I don't give in to the DOOM!, however, I think that it's just a good way for us to get what we want and leave on the shelf what we don't want. I'm pretty sure there was stuff in the science and mutant pack that I'd want a la carte, but I don't want the whole thing, for instance.
We'll see how it all plays out, but I still would rather not see powersets on the "purchased by points for all" block. -
Slides 7-9 look to be of our new powersets. Beam gun being fired by what looks to be a character with the new Defense set in #7, #8 looks similar to the one Time Manip. animation I know of from the I21 video, and I know Street Justice has some kind of uppercut for its Tier 9, and that's certainly what slide 9 looks like. We don't have an uppercut attack like that in game now. Nice Mike Tyson's Punchout/Street Fighter vibe to it.
If the whole set feels like that, I know what I'm getting with my first 800 points.
-
Diablo II NPC character that you see in a lot of the videos for it, or so I believe. Does have pretty nifty glowing wings, with Talsorian like filaments/lengths. Can probably find videos somewhere on the interwebs for them.
These look pretty cool, though I'm not sure I'll be able to pick them up with my vet rewards... I'm not far enough along, if I'm reading the Tier stuff well enough.I'll be up for 72 months in August, I think.

Quote:You Kheldian hater. You couldn't even ask about them for me?Well, I WAS in line to ask the question about the Passport badge for those of you who were interested, but they cut off questions two guys ahead of me.
I cornered Posi real quick as everyone was clearing out and asked him three quick questions:
1) Are you still planning to repurpose Passport? (Yes, but not in i21.)
2) Are you still planning to make anniversary badges global? (Yes; it turns out there was some difficulty in getting existing badges to go global. This will also probably not happen in i21, but in our brief chat I got the impression that they figured out a work around.)
3) Will we get access to the Praetorian content in Ouroboros? (Yes, eventually; not in i21.)
If there's anything that people want me to ask during the rest of the show, let me know and I'll try to find out for you.
FYI, they've said that questions about PVP, SG Bases and Mission Architect will not be answered this weekend--they know the player interest is there, but there is nothing they can talk about at this time.
Quote:I don't think they should use the term "Premium" for this. "Premium" is used to refer to a category of player once Freedom comes out. And it's confusing to use the term for something else.
If VIP's don't get it included as part of their subscription, then it's shouldn't be called Premium. Maybe "Purchasable?"
I'm also a little miffed that these are for pay. I realize that VIP's get points and can buy these with points, but still, if it's not part of a paid expansion, like CoV or GR, then I don't like seeing powersets that aren't automatically included in your $15/month subscription.
Dual Pistols feels kind of lackluster to me and I've been kind of done with masterminds for a while, so Demon Summoning, while a very good MM set, I don't know that I would have paid money for either if they weren't part of GR.
I suppose some could say that now you can pay what you want to pay for with these (I wouldn't haven't bought GR or used PP for demon summoning, for instance). The past few years show that more stuff ends up in for pay packs than in the "paid for by subscribers 'free' expansions," (at least for costumes) so I fear this is how things will be with Freedom.
I'll keep waiting and seeing how it works, though. Hopefully things will stay good and they won't gate too much stuff behind points. -
Finding teams for TFs and things is probably going to be easiest with channels, to be honest. Though an active SG can be nice for things like that, too, of course.
I'm in what amounts to a small SG. We have a huge base with all the trimmings, back from when we were bigger, and also from years and years of us having many alts.We have a few people that are mostly on at peak times for the west coast, and a few like me who are more on the central and eastern time frame.
Not sure if you want a larger SG, but those of us about are friendly and usually doing something. I call out in the server's channels and in our coalition to find people, for instance. -
Quote:MA comes with VIP, and it sounds like you can unlock it via rewards for when you are in Premium mode, or so I gather from the info on our homepage for this stuff.PR program hurts my brain. I know it shouldn';t matter since I am VIP, but I better not lose access to MA - there are some pretty talented writers out there. Some arcs are better for leveling 1 - 20 than the ones that you are supposed to do >.> (No, I mean actual arcs.) Hopefully revampled Atlas/Mercy will fix this for the 3 characters I will have to roll..
My brother, who I am trying to get to play CoH, is like "WTF, those are NOT super powers - but is the beam bun single handed?". He really isn't impressed by Street Justice's information and I am not either.
Beam weapons and a street fighting set have been requested by players for years, so even if it doesn't sound great to some people, other people are quite excited by them. I'll wait and see for how they work mechanically and how they look. I'm not really keen on how beam weapons sound, where they depend on some debuff to do more damage. That's not a great concept for blasters, who always get weaker debuffs and want to debuff stuff right now, rather than ramping up their damage.
Street Justice (which should be Street Fighting to me, to be more malleable to character concepts)... could be cool, but it depends on the mechanics again. I was going to make a SS/EA Brute with the new EA changes, but I might go for Street Fighting instead of SS, since I do have an SS Tank already. Depends on how it looks and plays, though. -
Voo, I don't play on Tuesday nights, but if you ever give these a go on a Saturday or Monday night (or even Wednesday), I would help out. GP is okay as a tank for these with his fire damage and being all leveled up from the Incarnate stuff, but I also have an Earth/Storm Controller I can bring in on these, and he's all leveled up as well.

Quote:Yeah, I hate any PvP (or PvE, for that matter) where you can actually lose stuff upon failing. I know some people like that and find it challenging, but I despise it. Being defeated is enough, taking stuff away that I have worked on forever is just not fun. I'm fairly okay with ranking systems for "skill" that some games have, but even that can get tedious. Trying to get published in real life is tricky and difficult enough without adding a game where I have to worry about what I could lose there.Ugh, and then there's that. Playing with friends is always fun. Playing with strangers is sometimes fun. But when you can actually LOSE stuff you've worked to earn because of other people, and even when you can utterly fail through no fault of your own... That's problematic. These, actually, are the instances that tick me off the most - when I've done pretty much all I can to succeed and I still end up failing because other people just couldn't be arsed to participate.
I'm all in favour of giving everyone as many tools for social interaction and community-building as possible. I just like it when I'm given the option to play by myself, too, when I don't want my experience to depend on other people.
Any gameplay involving other people is tricky. I was in a Battlefield 1942 clan that had some great people in it, but also some flaky ones. That fell apart because of them. I joined another (that a former clanmate had joined) that was full of great guys, but the clan was basically part of a conglomerate of gaming clans, and the other ones did not like us much. The guy that was basically in charge of the conglomerate and its website decided competitive gaming was dead (because of MMOs), and dissolved the whole conglomerate and website, without asking anyone. We eked along for another season of playing BF2, but that broke up because of pettiness, too.
So mostly good experiences with others, still marred by other people being mean about... gaming. For some reason. CoH does better with its community, and also when I'm not a part of such an official group. I'm sure there are SGs out there with too much drama as well.
Still, if you can find a good group of people, the benefits are probably worth the drawbacks. -
That'd be fun, but anything more than a chance for knockup on higher iterations would be okay, since most of the Judgement powers only have some mitigation in the same way. Definitely a cool idea that I would like to see. Maybe with a fist pound, PbAOE animation, or something.

Quote:My wife and I quite like Kreacher, so it would have been nice for him to be around more. But he's one of the many minor roles or actions that a book can have without too much fuss, but can throw a movie off completely. The Bellatrix and Molly fight needed to be put in, but it got too rushed with everything else that was in there.Yeah I can agree with that. With the book I envisioned a bigger battle between the mother and Bella.
Also was wondering why they couldnt at least show Kreacher's turn to liking Potter. I always envision him living with the Potters 19 years later.
I rather like how Harry faces down Voldemort in the book more than the movie, too. They went with their odd flying smoke bit instead (as they have liked to since Yates came in to direct, I believe), but I think the verbal interchange where Voldemort is left realizing his firm position is actually a house of cards works much better. The look on his face is always priceless, or at least how my imagination works it whenever I read it.
I don't know, it was a solid end, but it still leaves you wishing for more with some things. Snape's memories were strong in places, for instance, but also felt a little rushed and rough, and possibly harder to follow and appreciate if you haven't read the book. -
Quote:You really don't need to ask the question, he says why he is like this in this post earlier:A_F, why are you so committed to your belief that blasters are terrible? I can see why Johnny Butane is so revved up about tankers, because lobbying in favor of an AT has had positive effects in the past. He may be more hyperbolic than Halley's Comet but at least his heart is in the right place.
On the other hand, you seem to have dedicated your posting life to tearing down blasters, in the face of 80% of the forum telling you they're fine as well as the devs obliquely pointing out that they're fine and, as if that weren't enough, simple polls of popularity demonstrating that they're beyond fine. At this point it seems less like playing devil's advocate in order to pull for buffs and more like some kind of ancient tribal vendetta.
"Granted. I really don't put much effort into most of my replies on this topic. For me its like talking to a young earth creationist, after I have shown them that a volcano has rebuilt itself 4 or 5 times or the eroded strata in the grand canyon whats the point ?
All the creationists do is put their fingers in their ears and start repeating themselves."
He refers to a completely unneeded and incorrect comparison and basically says "I'm right, the other side is wrong and won't even admit it." It's the complete, unassailable bastion of opinion. It negates anything the opposing side would say.
Any evidence to the contrary of his opinion is wrong. It just is. So we might as well give up and quit, because his word is law. Kneel before him, son of Jor-El! -
Quote:I think you've hit on a better philosophy as well. I prefer Controllers and Doms to Defenders and Corruptors myself, but I honestly do not care what anyone brings to any content in CoH. I think the only things that really qualify for wanting some types of powers are Hami raids, Mo runs of some TFs, and the trials (kind of... most teams can do well on BAF, but it's nice to have some aggro control on Lambda for the two teams, and it's definitely nice to have area healing on Keyes). Even then, there is a lot of room for whatever ATs or powersets you want to bring.Well I may be flamed for that but since I joined the game and rolled various controllers and defenders I always thought trollers were better. Control and damage > weak blasts imo. Now only if trollers had dark miasma...
Not that I'm a snob, I just find them better overall, but my philosophy when I'm leading TF or etc is 'bring whatever you want' -
Okay, thanks for clarifying. I've given up trying to shoot down some of the "Blaster are the weakz0rz" people around here because of how off base they can get, so I can appreciate your thoughts.
-
Kind of sounds like Letterman's usual delivery. Not even sure why he bothers with them anymore, he seems rather bored with the idea whenever he does them (and most aren't all that funny anyway).
-
That's... news. Do you mean the adjustments to Fury for Brutes and their damage values? You could call those a nerf or an evening of power with Scrappers and a way to better maintain Fury. And Tanks haven't been nerfed in... ages. Taunt getting a -range component, and then Bruising and the HP cap increase just before GR are the two more recent buffs to the AT as a whole.
-
What is with these threads? People can't handle having hybrid ATs that overlap, so they have to manufacture these inferiority complexes? Sheesh.
No AT is needed, every AT can get the job done. Enjoy it!
