Cysts encourage the kind of thinking and approach teams should have anyway. Note what is in the spawn and how to deal with it, rather than running around blindly. I know CoX isn't too hard of a game, but peopel really should be doing that.
Because they're not that hard to deal with... don't everyone crowd in on the cyst, as that will keep it from spawning too many Nictus (you don't want to be in close anyway for when it explodes). Mind the explosion when it goes. That's it. They've been around for long enough that people know how to deal with them, too. They hardly slow down any team I'm on at any level.
My only real issue with crystals is that they are supposed to be rare, and should have limited spawns (same thing with voids and quantums... some groups don't make sense to mix with those). I once had a crystal spawn in an ambush. The ambush founds us in an earlier part of the map (think we were doing a Moonfire with my PB), and we found the cyst all by its lonesome farther down the tunnel. Silly, eh? I suppose it's some coding difficulty to fix all that (love how voids spawning with Longbow or Vanguard mobs get killed), but it's still odd. -
You should probably be able to. A bunch of people were maybes. Heck, if we have eight people interested we can just go for two different runs, really.
If it's just this group that has posted, your Scrapper would probably be better, just because we seem a little light on damage. My Mace Tanker can do decent ST damage at Posi levels, but that's it, and I know Defenders aren't too uber in that department, either.
Whoever wants to show up, show up (post here if you can, though). We'll adjust and make two teams if needed, look for another person or two, or just do a 4-5 man run. I'm always flexible with this. -

Come run the Positron with me tonight. Have fun with the community! You know it will be fun! -
In terms of what Rain of Arrows hits, it's two pulses of damage to whatever is in the patch, slightly spread out over time (maybe a second or two), so you want to make sure you place it right. I was under the impression that it has a target cap, as I haven't heard of any power being free of that requirement. I suppose that the first pulse could hit up to 16 or whatever, and then the second pulse pick other targets, but I'm not sure. I haven't ever investigated that much. Luminara should chime in... knows more about Archery than is probably healthy, that one. Heh.
No matter what, RoA is great fun to watch and use. Feels so appropos when I use it on an Imperious TF. -
What I really do find odd about the 1-20 thing in Praetoria is that the devs recently increased xp for that range. I'm not sure why they accelerated that if they're planning a chunk of GR around that. Really odd, as it will get us through there faster.
I do hope they have a few different approaches we can take in that range, though. I really do not a "Mercy Island one way or the other" angle for all 20 levels. -
Quote:My response was due to the rampant speculation being touted as fact, when it is, in fact, speculation. GG can winky it up all that she wants, it's still speculation. Sure, something happens at 20 about leaving Praetoria. That seems to be cut and dry. But I'm not going say for sure how that is going to work or say 100% that that's it for Praetoria.Actually, my recollection of the Herocon video was that Positron stated that Praetorian (players) must leave Praetoria eventually.
Reviewing the video, this is the relevant statement from Positron:
Positron: ...all of the Praetorians will eventually leave Praetoria ... its part of the storyline, yes they do, and yes, they all leave and when they leave they make one final choice of hero or villain.
This was in response to a question about whether Praetorians *can* leave Praetoria. Positron emphasized they *must* leave Praetoria. He did not specify precisely when, so technically its speculation that this occurs at level 20, but its reasonable speculation given other statements about the level range of content for Going Rogue.
I'd be fine with people being a little pessimistic "oh, they aren't giving us info, we probably won't get anything else," but some of the posting in here made it sound like they were announcing facts about how GR works. When we don't know that at all. That was what my post was about. -
I assume this was a test of the new setup? I can't imagine they're going to leave the Rikti raid stuff to one run when a lot of people aren't playing. I'd like to see what changes they made as well.

? Wait, what? Pretty easy to find teams on any server. You can make your own, broadcast, search, and use your server's global channels to do that easy (it looks like you're on Virtue, so go to that part of the forums to find out what global channels to use). The global channels are used to shout out about teams running, TFs forming, etc. Added on top of all the other features CoX has, and it's easy to start or join a team.

Yeesh, nobody commit now, I wouldn't want to expect too much (heh, sorry, just have a lot of maybes)! And cheer up, Zam, it'll be fun!
To quote my first post, here is the time. "7 PM Central/8 PM Eastern." That makes it 6 PM Mountain, 5 PM Pacific. What are they teaching at schools these days?
Putting you all up there. Power NA will be spot number two, since he sounds for sure, though I hope you all can make it. Hmmm, might be nice to add a Scrapper or a Blaster to the mix, otherwise it might take a long time.
Sorry you can't make it, Astro. I'm sure you can find some types that will do it when you can, though. -
Yeah, I'm not sure what strange powers Golden Girl used to convince MG so strongly. As I said in that other thread, MG, Golden is talking like things are 100%, when much of it is guesswork. Guesswork is fun and all at one level, but getting too worked up over it is never a good idea.
As if the devs didn't know that enough already, it's another strong reason they need to start putting GR info out. That way people can waste their energy talking about what will be, rather than what their wildest dreams or nightmares call for. -
GG, no offense, but you don't KNOW ANYTHING. You're working from what we have, and conjecturing from it wildly. You can go a number of directions with the info we have, and you're going in one direction. I just read through the past several pages, and you're talking like you know 100% what is up. Which you can't--unless you're a dev--and then you should be packing your bags as they're going to kick you to the curb for revealing secrets you shouldn't.
The only thing I feel comfortable saying is what they have said clearly. At least 1-20 stuff in GR, a graphics upgrade option, two new powersets, some new mobs and mob revamps, and some endgame content of some sort. Anything other than that is pure conjecture, and portraying it like it's 100% fact is a really rubbish sort of thing to do.
Look what your posting did to Mental Giant. You made him all sad. And I can't forgive that! -
Ninja Run is merely one choice among others. Choice and customization is good. Leave it at that.
Anecdotal "feelings" and even evidence from something that is a new shiny should not concern you much. Otherwise I would have yelled "everyone is Dual Blades!" after that powerset hit. -
Bugger, completely forgot to mention Super Side-kicking. Great, great feature. You can really adjust the difficulty levels while solo (you can face mobs meant for an eight-man team if you want), match the level of the mission your team has set without having to find a sidekick or exemp partner, etc.
And the factions having characteristic animations is pretty nice. Vahz really are pretty fun to watch now... and hilarious. 'til they start puking on you, of course. -
Wow... so... we're going to assume 100% that's it only what they've commented on so far, even though they have said they can't discuss everything and they've been working on this for a long time (and all signals point to them being very busy right now)? That's stretching my engrained Nordic pessimism too far.
At worst, I don't know what else they're going to have. To say that's it (side-switching, two ATs, 1-20 in Praetoria) seems to be stretching it too far. That speaks completely against the evidence we have from their comments on GR, and from their past behavior.
Heck, in that screenshot of War Witch's, we have evidence more is being done than was shown at Herocon already. Goodness, I'm all for skepticism, pessimism, and thinking things through, but this is taking it too far. Cheer up a bit.
*reverts to his stoic, Scandinavian self* -
It was too unspecific to say anything reliably. At most, I would say they let you leave at 20, so you don't have to stay in Praetoria if you don't want to. Pretty much all we know is that level 20 lets you have a choice of location.

Quote:When exactly is 8 months? For sure you would have missed power customization and the animation customization with I16. You can change the colors of your powers, and they started up animation customization as well, where you can change the animations to Martial Arts and Super Strength attacks. They're going to eventually give power customization to pool powers, epic powers, and more attack animations, but that's down the road a ways... at the least after Going Rogue, last I heard.I had to cancel my account about... eight months ago. Now I'm back.
Barring specific class changes (I'll read up on those on my own), what'd I miss?
I15 had mostly a new TF, but it's pretty decent (more fun villainside, I would say), and different than most of the other TFs. Some new costume options, and Dominators got revamped for villains, if you have any of those.
I14... not sure if you were there for that, but that was the Architect issue, where they added player created missions. A lot happening there, and there are a lot of good player arcs. You can start out with the dev choice arcs, but there are a lot of other good arcs made by players. -

Agreed. And if you're really worried about it, you can always pair up with a secondary that does different types. Energy Melee is a pairing that worked well for my AR blaster, but other ones can work well, too.
-
Are people slotting for defense with their sappers? I'm still leveling up my E^3, so I don't have too much experience with the sapping part of it, but I've decided to get his defense up to Smashing and Lethal, so he'll be able to sap safely. I don't think it's going to slow him down too much, either. Ball Lightning, Lightning Field, my melee attacks, etc. will clear things plenty fast. Might be a good idea to only sap with certain mobs, too. If it's a small group of minions, it's probably not needed.

Quote:Heh. It is quite fun. I finally picked this up on my AR/EM Blaster, and I love using it. The area of effect and size of the explosion just makes it too fun.LRM Missle...Rocket...big stick of BOOM! ...Whatevahz...you get the idea! LOL
Hmmm, finally got Thunderous Blast for my Elec/Elec Blaster, 1.21 Gigawatts. It's quite fun to see that build-up of electricity, and then see the mobs writhe before falling over. Heh. -
Quote:Really? I thought he used Super Strength attacks. Though it's hard to tell with some attacks, as there is some overlap. There's more

Invulnerability / Super Strength
He uses Energy Melee ingame, not Super Strength

It doesn't help that Statesman himself has Super Strength and other powers too (want that lightning groundstrike myself, heh). -
Okay, so my latest tank going for his Task Force Commander accolade needs to run Positron. From past experience, this goes best with people exemping down, having some decent players, and limiting the size of the team.
I would like to get some people from the forums to fill the team (or at least give it a solid base), and limit it to 4-5 people that are interested. I'm hoping to start this at 7 PM Central/8 PM Eastern. Given that, who wants in?
1. Grey Pilgrim (Swedish Fury, Invuln/Mace Tanker)
2.Power NA (Emp/Elec Defender)
3. Burning Bear
4. Cylert (maybe)
5. Zamuel (maybe) (Storm/Ice Defender)
6. Necrotech (maybe) (Ill/Storm Controller) -
What would Victory be like without Voo? I don't know. But it just wouldn't be the same. Heh.

Tricky thing with AI is that they might potentially need to change how spawns work... and power difficulty, too. If one mob can alert another mob to your presence, that can make things a lot more sticky.
I was playing that space MMO that's in beta right now, and thought how hilarious it was that some... angry alien types across the room didn't hear me shooting up their buddies. But that's kind of par for the course. If they didn't have some limitations on AI, they'd have to give us a lot more tools, make maps bigger so we didn't aggro every mob right away, etc.
Might work just to use certain things they have more. With some of the newer story arcs, defeating a patrol can cause ambushes, etc. Little things like that can add some variety without making the maps or enemies completely annoying. -
Eh, the merits and demerits of a new game have been argued to death. From background actions on the devs, and those other merits/demerits, I think there is a lot more traction to just updating the game they have. They've already upgraded the game in a lot of ways, and the new graphical update is more proof that they're going that route.
They can, of course, tell us tomorrow (ha, yeah right) that they have a new expansion in the works, and prove me wrong. I really do doubt it, though.
From the little of Going Rogue we've seen, what they said at Herocon, and War Witch's interview, they're solidly stoked to keep revamping this game. Which is what I like to hear- that's the approach I prefer.
And I guess Posi wanted to focus on creating stuff, from the posts he's put out since this announcement. Which makes sense.
Still can't believe they didn't give us more Going Rogue info, though. This info doesn't help that impatience at all. I don't want to hear that "we have fun things planned," I want to hear specifics about what we'll see next: not in the "next couple weeks," but this week. I do want it to be quality, of course, but we need more new stuff... ASAP. And the news even sooner.
*added*
Well, it's not huge, but War Witch did post a picture of a resistance member from Going Rogue. New map tileset and costume stuff, so that's nice.
