  1. Hey, congrats. Always happy to see more people hanging around- be sure to check out our forum channels to get in contact with more people on Victory (some of us are grumpy, but we're usually fun to team with).
  2. MG, I made a joke. And used a smilie. That's what GG does all the time, so that post should have worked.

I guess I'm not female... is that all it takes?

Not sure why you want to be so doom-happy. *sighs* I'll just keep on looking forward to what's coming this year... have fun in your little corner over there.

(And I am seriously amused, bemused, and a little saddened by all this, yeesh).

This has been repeated back at you continually. I'm not sure why you're not reading people's more than thoughtful responses to you. As you just said, you get "new" influence from defeating foes... which includes selling their drops to vendors. And clicking on glowies and completing missions.

There are more level 50s in the game now, and they can make more influence than they did before exemplered... all of that adds up to making more "new" influence than money sinks like market fees take out. It's simple, stop trying to overcomplicate it.
  4. You all need to come back to Victory again as well. Heraclea and I can show you the ropes. It'd be nice to bring Grey Pilgrim along to one of these events.
  5. They said (and it's been repeated a lot) that it was going to be late Q1 for beta and Q2 for release.

And War Witch's interview also stated that they're working on the issue after GR already, and that it would have a strong focus on content. Doooooom indeed.
  6. I wouldn't mind joining in on a Barracuda, but I'll really only be on this weekend on Saturday night, about 7 PM Central. If anyone wants to give it a go, I'd love to try it with my Stalker.
  7. Thanks for playing my arc, EB. I reworked it a month back for the AE competition Aeon was running... I should announce that so more people play it and give it a try again... I think the storyline is stronger and the gameplay is more fun (though it is capped out at level 30, as you noted... darn Warrios just don't go any higher, and they're needed for the story).

I really should try for another arc again. I do have some ideas, I just haven't had time (when I have had time fore creativity, I've been trying to focus on my fiction writing).

Zamuel has good arcs, too. I just played through "Dhahabu Kingdom and the Indelible Curse of Hate: #367872" and I liked it. He has well thought out custom mobs and uses the maps available quite well. I'd also recommend checking out the AE section of the forums, and the dev choices... Aeon has been picking a lot lately, and that part of the forums usually brings out the writers.

Kong, you're right, I'd love to make a map using the base editor stuff... they do have a variety of tilesets, etc. Though I have noticed bases with a lot of stuff in them tend to get laggy, so I wonder if they were worried about that. I would definitely pass that idea on, though. I actually haven't heard that voiced anywhere, and it's a good one.

I do know what you mean about content. I've been wanting more for awhile now, as nice as I14 and I16 were for customization.

Also, I would help you out, but I'm already a part of a big SG and VG, and I have my own personal SGs going already that I don't want to give up after all that work.

Silly Zamuel, you can find people to help you out. I didn't even touch this event last year, so I'd probably be willing to give it a go.

Seriously, though... I'll be happy to be surprised by some news (whenever we get it) indicating that GR has CoV-like levels of content... it's just looking less and less likely.

Also, look around! Long time players are burning out... if Scooter's right and we won't see GR go live until 9/2010, then I predict a significant dip in the player population that won't reverse itself until late 2010.
MG, this is my point. I'm all for the adage of "expect the worse and all your surprises will be pleasant ones," but expecting the worse just to expect the worse is over the top. A September 2010 release for GR is doomcrying for the sake of doomcrying, to me. Late Q1 beta for GR is March... to expect it not to go live for another 4-5 months after that is really, really, really expecting the worst.

I know that development schedules generally take longer than first announcements, but GR does not have THAT much more to go before they hit their announced dates... this isn't like Nintendo saying "the next Zelda game will hit maybe/possibly late this year" (when it's January 1st).

Anyway, enough on that. I'm worn out after work and am probably making too much of things.

EB, I know what you mean about wanting to be able to treat AE missions like regular missions. That would help a lot. Even so, most arcs in the AE are going to be doable in 20-60 minutes, so it isn't too much of an "enter and not return for hours" thing like TFs generally are. My arc uses all five mission and it took me (solo and in teams) only about 35-45 minutes, and that was before I shortened a few of them.

You have permission, Zam (heck, include a reminder of all the great arcs you can do in the MA right now). I'd like to make out a request that someone do something for MG. His doomcrying is approaching "look at me, DOOM!" levels, and I find it annoying!

Seriously, MG. All you know about is some 1-20 stuff. Assuming anyone other than the devs knows anything else about it (whether that's all there is, or there is much more to come) is just silly.

I can understand wanting to take a break or something, but being all doomish is not needed. You're making me be positive about something, which my Scandinavian blood has a hard time with!
  11. Heh, I was thrown off by the long click on one of the chests, though. I didn't want to fight the mob again, but it turned out I needed to click on that one to get the Avatar to come after me... so I'd still tweak that somehow.

I wonder if you could do a bit more story with the clickies in that mission... Grossman's new arc delivers some interesting stuff in the dialogue from glowies, so it might be worth giving that a try.

/e crawls back into his nice comfy bug cave.
Definitions, definitions. I haven't heard anything different about there being a beta late Q1 and release in Q2, so I'm not sure how that isn't "final stages of development." I forget when Pax is, but it's not that long before Herocon was when they made that announcement. Yeesh.
  13. Shield and Elec are probably the biggest reminders that Burn has been overly nerfed. You don't have to worry about immoblizations or anything silly with those, you just use them. I'd rather Castle revamped Burn to work consistently and easily than leave Burn the way it is. It should have been tweaked better back when it received its nerf, and it's still sitting that way.

Fiery Embrace should just work at 20 seconds for everything. Then it'd be a nice option to choose instead of Build-up, or with it. Fiery Aura still has these powers hanging around from the start of the game that need tweaking, while Shields was really designed effectively all around.

But other than that, it really is a good set. I've pretty much given up on the idea of help with Immobilization and KB, even though those weaknesses still don't make sense. I'd love to free up some slots from having -kb IOs, but oh well. And Combat Jumping is useful on just about every tank anyway, so that's not THAT big a deal.
  14. Looks like you were an Invuln/DB. Did you do anything special like go for a Sweep (I see you went for the Vital combo at one point) ahead of time to help with their hits and debuffing? Also curious what defense levels you're at with your Invuln, as that could make a big difference, too. They don't seem to have tagged you much (unless those shots are not in the screenshots), so I would figure you have high defense at the least.

I'm tempted to try this on my Fire/Fire. I would be a little worried for him, as he doesn't have any mitigation, which usually helps when fighting Vanguard. I'm fairly certain, for instance, that my Shield/SS could handle them okay (though leading in with a Shield Charge might almost feel like cheating for this, heh).
  15. So, ummm, see you all tonight? Didn't see an official thread for the Tanker Tuesday on Champion tonight, so I guess this will serve. I'll be there with my Ice/EM Tanker (I'll have to bring the Tanker I transferred over one of these nights, my Shield/SS. He's in need of more Vanguard merits, so maybe we can run a Rikti raid!).
  16. I haven't done the redside version yet (I'll join you my Nin/Nin Stalker if you ever run it when I'm on, Zam... though you and I seem to have different schedules), but from the descriptions, it's much more interesting than the blueside one. Blueside, you just have to plan to drop his huge sack of HPs, and have a plan to deal with the AVs that occasionally join the fray. Not much to it, really.
  17. I'd say it's already been answered. Influence "comes from nowhere" when you defeat a foe, or you sell a drop to a vendor. Add that up with all the people playing the game, and more people having 50s, and you get a lot of influence coming from nowhere. That means that more people have more money to toss around at things. I think there was another thread recently where someone was asking if we do need more money sinks in this game to keep prices down, actually.

I also don't know that supply is necessarily keeping up with demand. Some recipes are quite rare, and their costs have gone up and up. Other recipes have gone down to adjustments in the game. Other than Blessing of the Zephyr, -kb recipes are much cheaper than they used to be. I think that is partially due to the BotZ recipe, but also merits. However, merits and the drop changes that came with them have made other recipes more rare. I think the Guassian's rech/end recipe is ridiculously rare now, going way up in price.

So I think prices are going up, as more people have more money, and supplies are going down to some extent (the latter being more of a feeling and my minor observations of movements on Went's, the former more a natural occurrence from how the game works). I would also figure that if people are playing a little less while waiting for Going Rogue, that would cut down supplies more (maybe more than how it would lower demand).
  18. Few things... bonuses and IOs do help, but you can do decently with regular enhancements. There is "gear" in CoX, but not as much need for it as you see in WoW and other games.

Also, if you are planning to PvP in the lower level zones, why are you bothering with level 40 IO sets? Slot IO sets that will be in range for the zone(s) you want to hang out in. There is a reason for why level 33 recipes usually cost more than level 34 and 35 recipes, for instance.

I use the more common IO sets for all of my characters (I have had all of two purple recipes drop in all my time of playing, and only have a decent amount of cash... I'm still working on getting those more common IOs on a lot of my characters). I'm also quite happy with their performance. I could eek out just a little bit more performance out of them with Purples, but that would be a lot of cash for not a whole lot of gain. That's the great thing about this game, you don't need the l33t g34r to get the job done.
  19. Yeah, there are pros and cons to all the Tanker Primaries. You note what those are and you work with them. That's a good thing, too. If they all played the same, what would be the point of having different sets (not to mention noting how much that would neuter much of the fun you can have with CoX).

I do think Burn could use some tweaking, Fiery Embrace should be of more help to all secondaries, and Consume has too long of a recharge for what it does. But those are very minor things to deal with compared to how it plays. It's quite solid when you play and take the pros and cons into account (just like you should with ANY tank set).
  20. Eh, they just need to get new stuff in game. Going Rogue should hopefully bring that about, if they ever start talking about it. I do hope for something this week, as it is a couple of weeks after War Witch said "in a few weeks," but we'll see how that goes.

Taking a break helps, too. I was gone for over a year and a half, and loved it when I came back. Lots of new things to explore, and even better gameplay than I remembered. I've had to take brief breaks since then, and they always develop the CoH bug in me even more.
  21. I rarely have that many slots to throw at Stamina, though, and I try to build my character to do with less if possible (usually can on my Blasters). For a Peacebringer, slots are precious... so I'm sticking with the default on Stamina. I believe that means just having end recovery boosted in there is better than the proc (especially since it won't carry to the forms), but I could be wrong.
  22. Ah, lovely. I thought it worked more like Numina's... oh well. Not sure if this is worth having in Stamina, as I was mostly hoping to have more of a bonus carry over to the forms (like the Numi proc will when I can afford to get one for my PB). I'll probably get more mileage just slotting Stamina for Endurance, since it'll only help while I'm in human form, anyway.
  23. Hey all, I just slotted a Performance Shifter, Chance for +end in my Peacebringer (so I could get a boost using the two non-human forms), but the bonus doesn't seem to show up. I'm used to seeing the Numina's unique listed in the numbers as the Numina's proc, but I don't see anything for the Performance Shifter. Is that proc number just thrown in with the other recovery bonuses? Seems a little odd, if so, but I'd like to know it's actually working.

I thought all those procs worked automatically in the auto powers, so hopefully I wasn't remembering wrong there.
  24. I haven't played Grossman's arc yet (it's on my to-do list), but the other two are fun and better than the last round of guest authors, I would say. The problem with the "lolbat" one in the last round was it was too specific of humor. I got a lot of the jokes, but I wasn't a fan of the comic going into it, so I feel like I didn't really get much out of it.

Rooster Teeth's approach felt better in their MA videos than the actual MA.

Lackey's and Hickman's felt good to me. I do hope they fix up the typos in Lackey's arc, as I was a little surprised to see those. Otherwise, the humor and story were pretty good, there (though sometimes pop culture references, rather than jokes from the story, can be a shortcoming).

Hickman's arc does have more challenging foes, I guess, but I did enjoy that. Maybe the stealth mobs in the last arc could have been warned about more, but I was able to adjust okay... and you can usually hear them when they're close and reacting to you anyway. Heh, the Spines/Fire boss in the 3rd or so mission was a little harsh, between her and the mob around her, the they did too much damage for me to react in time with my MA/Regen Scrapper (I did find after reviving). The lieutenants with the electrical powers are probably the most troublesome for melee types. I believe Power Sink is auto hit (it is for Elec Blasters, anyway), so them firing that off was just killer on my Scrapper. He normally isn't hurting for end, but if I didn't kill those things in a few hits, he was out of endurance, which is never fun.

It also enjoyed the challenge of so many mobs with mez protection, but it is rather frustrating that some accepted tactics in game are flatlined by these (can't knock them down, hold them, etc. even if you do identify them first... you just have to drop them first, which keeps the encounter have only one approach). So I guess I enjoyed the challenge, but I would have liked some of the trickier mobs not to have mez protection, so I had some more options with them.

Storyline was excellent for Hickman's... I enjoyed it as a story, and would replay it again... I would say it's up there with some of the better arcs in CoX... which is saying something (and some of those dream creatures are just funny and crazy).
  25. Heh, probably not.

Though it is a good rule that it's easier (and has better audience perception) to grow more lax, rather than more strict. Seem to be following that with this approach (though I'm not sure what more time on this serves, unless they answer my "will GR have more slots" question, and maybe more fun server swapping for PvPers).
