LOL he does that plenty often on his own. What can you say about a blaster who isn't really missed when he leaves a tanker/controller duo?

    Infernal AV

Hadn't thought of tanking him from range. Took me a long time to get him away from the dumb altar and he had a habit of running back to it but I bet I could have done hops back and forth using the Siphon to stay healed and done a better job. I couldn't be too far away because I was providing a good amount of the damage.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Maria's missions are pretty popular and we don't have a lot of tanks in the SG so I expect to face him again and wanted to be prepared.

As for my teammates, grav/rad controller was great, the energy/energy blaster... well... he's a good friend so what can ya do?

    Infernal AV

So I had to tank Infernal as a +1 AV on a 3-man team with Shadowguardinal my dark/dark tank. This was Maria's first mission.

Should I be ashamed that he beat me like a drum if I didn't have Phenomenal Luck and Robust running simultaneously? Dang but that axe hurt!

I've never been one to lean on inspirations much but my character absolutely required them against him. Makes me almost want to look at defensive IO sets or something... not that I have a clue where to start on that.

So, while I'm not saying "Never" the odds are against it.
I know a lady whose favorite character in Neverwinter was a Whips weapon master. She was the master of the Trip maneuver. This news is going to make her very sad. As soon as she saw the DS trailer she told me that the whip in that video was mocking her
  5. Ok, just wanted to make sure... I didn't realize it would keep track of when the whole team logs off but that makes perfect sense even if I don't like it. Wish they would give us a few minutes.

Now if I can just figure out my hang problem I'll be doing great!
  6. This happened to me twice today. Both times my machine crashed (a whole other issue I'm having recently where the sound starts cutting out and a minute later the machine freezes and has to be turned off). A couple of minutes later the machine is rebooted and I log into COH.

As I would expect it told me I was still logged on. My experience with teams in the past is that my character would still be in the mission at that point and fades away with that message. I figured cool, I'll only be out of the mission for as long as it takes me to select a server, select a character and transition back into the mission.

Both times the missions had completely reset. All dead enemies resurrected in exactly the same configuration and in exactly the same spawn points as when I first entered the mission. Both times was with a different character though on the same server. It was very frustrating.

Anyone else had this problem when solo and crash? I was under the impression I could leave for minutes at a time and come back to the mission in progress. Heck, in the past I've had a great deal of trouble trying to reset a mission on purpose.
  7. Observer effect. The act of observation effects the thing you are trying to observe.

Especially true in computers since running another program, or even changing the existing program to measure itself, creates additional CPU and memory load. Danged if you look, danged if you don't.
  8. Complainers complain. It's their nature. I try to ignore them especially since the one in the OP is a stupid loser (his words not mine, he did say "everyone who plays Game A is a stupid loser" while playing Game A).

Not that I hear much of it in-game... in fact I hear very few complaints in-game outside of the "I wish they would change..." stuff.
  9. If it seems too good to be true... it probably is. That said, this is the first I've heard they are still actively punishing people for taking advantage of obvious exploits.
  10. This would be great. One of the only things I miss about Neverwinter Nights is being able to hear my character laugh during a laugh emote or say "thank you" and I loved the old taunts from some of those voice sets "Is that the best you've got?"
  11. Not "turn down" so much as avoid. Lots of contacts offer 2 missions at once. She should be able to as well.
  12. I like this idea. It would be very cool if the people you save in level-appropriate zones turn into temporary, one-time, contacts that give a 15-30 minute timed mission. Only a small percentage of rescued persons would give a side mission (10% or less) and they wouldn't offer if the current team leader's mission queue is already full or you are on a TF. They would run away as normal after you finish talking to them. Being timed you wouldn't really need a way to drop them. Like radio/paper missions they would disappear on finish/fail with no need to return to the contact.

Less ideally since you couldn't turn it down, the rescued person could just give a key with some comment about a crime-in-progress prior to running away.

    Noooooooo!

I brought up the ones we have to say basically "we already have enough of these" (especially villain-side). I don't think we need more (or at least not many more) stories of this sort either.

To be honest though, it is different from a movie in that the story of your Character goes on after the story of the Contact ends. And having one or two failed missions over a career, despite our best efforts at the time, adds depth to a character. It becomes the thing(s) that haunt the apparently successful super-hero. The irritating interviewers bring up the Tanya Tylers and Captain Indomitables you failed to save to get a rise out of you but all the fans have forgiven you and say it makes you more human.

However, while it works from a character-building stand-point, it fails from an entertainment stand-point so it should be fairly rare.

I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the new GR stories are exactly of this type. It's hard to tell a story of resistance against an overwhelming enemy that doesn't have at least a few failed or at least thwarted missions. It would be pretty unrealistic not to for one thing, but it also adds to the dark and scrappy feeling of being a freedom fighter/terrorist. You can't win every fight but you keep fighting the war. Gaining inches you hope will eventually win out in the end... maybe not for you but perhaps for a future generation.

    Just my opinion though.
  14. I have a surprising number of alts in the 20-29 range that ran the old cape mission but I did say I realized that would work itself out over time... as annoying as it is.

But I've had several characters that never really wanted a cape but were forced to run the cape mission anyway because I knew I'd want an aura later. I'd like to eliminate that "need."
  15. Please allow us to run the aura mission without running the cape mission.

At 20th level the City Representative offers the cape mission.

At 30th level she offers both the cape and aura.

This is especially irritating while our old 20-29th level alts are leveling to 30 and are forced to run the cape over. I realize that eventually this will work its way out of the system but I also have several characters that don't even want a cape (like my name-sake who uses wings) and would rather just skip to the aura.

If there is a way to skip it already I'd sure like to know what it is.

[Edit] Oh yeah, same for villains though at least we don't have to run it twice on older alts that already have a cape.

    Noooooooo!

The Terra Conspiracy story arc from Ginger Yates ends on a decidedly "failed" note. There are others though I can't think of them off-hand. Lots of villain arcs end with you having been a patsy to do something good or against your own interests such as Captain Petrovich (save the Iron Widow) and Darrin Wade (Midnight Draws Near/suicidal mission that helps a plot to free Rularuu which IS suicide) but there are others.

Really? Wow... does that mean the ambushes start immediately or after you've defeated her guards like before? If immediately that could be really bad. If after you could just avoid them right? It doesn't seem like a very good change to me, if it was changed.

    Great post overall!
True. I will gladly exit a solo mission to join a team if it isn't timed.

I agree, select the mission before you start inviting. I find it comforting to join a team and already see a selected mission. It makes me think the leader is on the ball.

As far as I know, as long as I have the star the "Select Mission" button is always available. It doesn't just appear when a mission is selected. It just doesn't do anything if a mission isn't selected. Is it sometimes off the bottom of the list and you have to scroll down? I don't guess I've noticed one way or the other.

Not in large teams but I've never done it solo either. The trick is to keep the person(s) they are following in the middle of the team, running to the opposite side of the ambushes, and keeping back when pulling from areas that might lead to a chain reaction. It takes a disciplined team to be sure but we had done all that just from our "never let the ally die" challenge we apply to all allies, not because we thought it would fail.

A mission that is nearly impossible for a large team but easy for 1-2 person teams is the Lady Jane mission in the Midnighter's arc. Hooboy - done it once out of a lot of tries but don't want to try again.

I didn't either until this weekend. I had invited a level 11 blaster to join me and went in. After rescuing both and fighting off a couple of ambushes, my wife called me and I went afk. When I came back I had the RWZ loading screen on the computer and then the FAILED MISSION notice.

When I asked what happened the blaster said we were ambushed but he thought the three of them had managed to kill them all. I asked if one of the NPC's died and he said yes - the General. Bummer... never knew that.

I played that "rescue the orenbagan" mission the other day. I was the lowly level 28 scrapper on the team. We had only 3 or 4 minutes left when we entered the last room - one of those huge stairstep rooms that go down to a river and back up. Everyone scattered trying to find the last hostage and I popped into one of the holes down near the water. I was overwhelmed by Malta but I managed to live through the 5 man spawn especially once the storm defender showed up (and I apologize for ever saying anything bad about Regen scrappers). Once those were cleared we found the hostage hiding in a tunnel behind the spawn we'd just fought. We defeated the guards and I think we had 15-30 seconds left on the timer. I was very proud.

    Mercs

I like my merc. Took him to Cimerora Saturday and absolutely kicked tail. I've never had it so easy fighting the romans before and I have like the worst possible secondary with FF.

I respec'd out of Serum and the medic doesn't heal nearly often enough while seeming to always die first so I agree with all that. However, I love my spec ops guys. I use them as my pullers while putting the rest of the team at parade rest. Their long range snipes make them quick to pull back and they don't attract attention while getting into position. Not that I have to pull very often but when I do they are my go-to guys.

Disclaimer - I only have one MM so I have no basis for comparison.
  23. We have a new guy in our SG who is a re-sub from long ago. He dumped a bunch of base salvage in our V-base and filled up all the racks. We'll be talking to him tonight about taking those out and converting them to brain storms or listing them on the BM.
  24. Personally, I'm waiting to run my pistols through the new content. I'm planning on a heroic corrupter which I can't do until GR goes live. Besides, the streets are thick with DP's and I don't want to ride that bandwagon just yet.

    Faultline Dam

Others didn't see what I was seeing. When I turned my particle count up a bit it stopped being so spastic and looked more normal. Sorry for the false alarm.

Now, everyone thought all the water everywhere in Faultline including the falls looked "different" but who knows - that sort of thing is so subjective.
