Mission Reset on Drop?
It's worked this way as long as I can remember, possibly back into CoH Beta.
I was extremely proud for the longest time that I'd not failed any missions on my main and then I got a timed mission, slogged through it finding all of the objectives and defeating everything with only one room left and one objective left and lost power for two hours. Logged in to the Mission Failed message. I was extremely upset.
I'd had similar experiences before this of losing power briefly and logging in to find the mission completely reset.
I've purposely exited to the desktop and relaunced the game due to stupid hostage/ally AI running full bore into a room full of enemies concentrating on one enemy on the far side of the map so that the hostage didn't die.
I think the problem comes when trying to get it to fully reset and re-organize the mission due to team size changes, relocating spawn points, the spawn levels, and/or mission difficulty settings.
If you are on a team and disconnect, as long as the teammates are on the map it doesn't reset and you log back into the mission with it already in progress.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
A mission will stay intact as long as at least one member of the team running it is still online.
It follows that a mission will completely dissolve and reset as soon as the last person logs off (or DCs).
We used to use this mechanic on purpose during TFs if a mission became too hard. We'd simply change the difficulty and have everybody on the team relog at the same time to force the reset. Then, a solo or duo team would load the mission before everybody else finished logging in. (This of course is a wildly outdated tactic now that the spawning does not change for teammates that are logged off and difficulty does not currently affect TFs. lol)
Yes, it sucks when it happens while solo. One time I even did it to myself on accident. After a long mission, somebody on a Global channel needed help with trading an item on the other side, so I relogged real quick to help them. I originally only had the final 2 rooms left after already clearing out the long hallways and other side rooms of the warehouse. I came back to a reset mission. I facepalm'd when I realized what I did. lol
Ok, just wanted to make sure... I didn't realize it would keep track of when the whole team logs off but that makes perfect sense even if I don't like it. Wish they would give us a few minutes.
Now if I can just figure out my hang problem I'll be doing great!
This happened to me twice today. Both times my machine crashed (a whole other issue I'm having recently where the sound starts cutting out and a minute later the machine freezes and has to be turned off). A couple of minutes later the machine is rebooted and I log into COH.
As I would expect it told me I was still logged on. My experience with teams in the past is that my character would still be in the mission at that point and fades away with that message. I figured cool, I'll only be out of the mission for as long as it takes me to select a server, select a character and transition back into the mission.
Both times the missions had completely reset. All dead enemies resurrected in exactly the same configuration and in exactly the same spawn points as when I first entered the mission. Both times was with a different character though on the same server. It was very frustrating.
Anyone else had this problem when solo and crash? I was under the impression I could leave for minutes at a time and come back to the mission in progress. Heck, in the past I've had a great deal of trouble trying to reset a mission on purpose.
