Have you looked for any references to the movie "Ghostbusters" in paragonwiki, or is the badge called "Buster" for defeating Halloween ghosts a reference to something in game?
-
Quote:No, that's not incorrect.Ahh . . . OK . . . just one thing, there were many times more men killed in the Spanish Inquisition for being witches than there were EVER female "witches" killed.
That's the very reason why it's an awful name for the badge.Quote:Considering what you have to do to get the badge, I think the name is very appropriate.
You're getting totally the wrong way around - it's because the badge makes a reference to the mass murder of "witches" that's it's horrible - not that it doesn't acknowledge men killed for being "witches".Quote:It might be a little more appropriate to demand that "Warlocks" be added to the game in order to make things more accurate instead of demanding a badge name be changed. -
Quote:That's not the reference the badge is making - if it was, then it would be for all the Halloween mobs, not just the witches.I've been looking for this "Malleus Maleficarum" all day in the wiki and have been unable to find it.
Now, I know there is the Malleus Mundi (Latin, "Hammer of the World") in the Halloween Tip mission, which is described as
"The Malleus Mundi is an ancient text, one of the oldest bound books known to still be in existence. It is a magical focal point as well as a book of some of the most powerful spells ever devised. Whispers speak of its powers being able to bind gods, destroy moons, and re-write the fabric of reality itself."
Not seeing anything about witches or their persecution.
It's a reference to the "Malleus Maleficarum" and "defeating witches", just like the Halloween vampire one is "Hunter", as in vampire hunting, and the Ghost one is "Buster", as in ghost busting.
There's totally no connection between the Malleus Mundi and the Halloween Witches - the badge is about the "Maleus Maleficarum", and needs to be changed. -
The zone invasions can be quite spectatcular with the Rikti ships bombing the place before teleporting in the ground troops - the more players there are gathered in the zone, the bigger the invasion force will be.
One of the classic locations is the hill by the train station on Talos Island - and it's become such a traditional place to gather to fight the Rikti that the dves even added a badge there to mark it

If only the game didn't have so many zone missions, then you'd be able to spend most of your gamign time on a mission map and avoid any trouble.

Quote:No it isn't - the "witches" who were murdered weren't real witches, because those don't exist - it was like accusing and murdering people for being elves or fairies or pixies - mass-murder for the "crime" of being something that never existed.the name of a manual for persecuting witches is the perfect name for a badge awarded for.......persecuting witches.
The witches in the game are "real" witches - so they have totally no conenction to the women who were murdered for being "witches", so the badge title is not only crass and offensive, it doesn't even make any sense either. -
Quote:The "Malleus Maleficarum" is filled with mysogynistic rants to try and justify gendercide - it's one of the main parts explaining how people could identify "witches" - a lot of the "proof" presented just comes down to "she's a woman, so she should be suspected of being evil".Basically they are upset over the Malleus Maleficarum, a codex on how to run witch trials. Since the media often protrays witches being only female, they are led to believe that the witch trials were only there to mass murder women.
Some men were murdered as "witches" too - but the vast majority of the victims were women.Quote:Ignoring of course the whole element of the other gender that was also killed. Cause you know, no one cares about the men who where killed as well. The book after all does say that women are more often witches than men. Mostly because it came around in a time where men had thought they were the ones in charge.
This has got nothing to do with trying to "sweep it under the rug" - it's quite the opposite - the full horror of the mass-murder of "witches" is still not as well known as it should be.Quote:However now we live in a time where we get offended over everything because it has some connection to this one time that this thing happened that was bad. Thus is the major reason people are upset over the title of the badge and the way it is earned. So they want to sweep the bad part of history under the rug, even though several people here have now been educated on it. (Though everyone already "knows" at least a little bit about the witch trials.)
This is about not using a reference to crimes against humanity as the title for a badge - the "Malleus Maleficarum" helped bring about the deaths of thousands and thousands of women for being "witches" - so a badge for defeating witches in the game should nerver, ever have been called "Malleus". -
Quote:It's from the title of a book called "Malleus Maleficarum", which means "The Hammer of the Witches" - it was written in the middle ages, and is one of the most evil books ever - it's all about how to identify, put on tiral, and murder "witches", and it was the standard reference book for the authorities in the centuries of the witch killings, which resulted in the deaths of countless thousands of women.Uh . . . What? Where is the word "Malleus" a reference to the mass murder of women? I am assuming you are speaking of an event since the half a dozen dictionaries I checked only talk about the definition of "Malleus" as one of the three bones of the inner ear in mammals. Even the Latin origin only refers to a hammer.
It's a "how to" guide for mysogyny and gendercide, and is not something you should reference in a badge title for beating up witches. -
Quote:They've already changed one badge after a similar bad taste problem - the original "Untouchable" badge for defeating 100 Family bosses used to have an Italian flag on it instead of the bullet holes on a brick wall that it has now - and this changing the name of the "Malleus" badge would be even easier, as the artwork can stay the same - it just needs the name changed.I hate to say this, but I strongly agree with GG on this. This is in extremely poor taste and has been complained about many times in the past.
And if they really want to keep that name for a badge, then as it's a Latin word they could make it the name of a badge in Cimerora, for defeating something like Minotaurs or Cyclopses, for example - or just add it for to any new badges in upcoming Issues - anything, really, just as long as they get rid of any link with it to witches and the mass-murder of women. -
Quote:The timer doesn't actually mean you'll fail the mission - it's just how long you have left until the Clockwork ambushes start.Just played the new stuff, and ... WOW! You guys outdo yourselves at Halloween, but this one tops 'em all! People were BROADCASTING in zone what a great job you did!
I can't believe you made a NEW TIP mission, just for Halloween! We had a blast! A bug or two showed up, nothing that made it any less fun, though - it was a wild, manic slugfest of a race to get it done under the clock. (We did it with literally - no exaggeration! - one second left! *sigh* It just does not get any better than that!)
Thank you, thank you, thank you! GREAT, GREAT JOB! Thank you!
PS Sorry if the exclamation points are excessive. But... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

He chose blue rather than yellow in his moral choice mission
-
I sense some GMs being spawned
-
-
So now the game has gone to the Europeans?
-
Ok, something not so good about the event - someone told me that the "Malleus" badge is still being awarded for defeating witches - which is seriously not cool.
There are so many opther badge titles they could use without having to use something so disgustingly bad taste - witches are all about spells and magic, so just give the badge a title related to spells or magic, and leave the crimes against humanity reference out of it. -
But shouldn't that mean the Faultline Widow disguise power would work too?
-
-
That's weird, as those codes are permanent, right? I would've thought the game would recognize them as different from the temp Halloween ones.
-
Is that still canon? Because I know the old version of Tyrant would probably just have said "lol, pwned by a n00b", I think the new version of Tyrant might have thought it was not so good for her to kill her mother.
-
With needing to wear a Halloween cotume to get the new Tip, I've realized a drawback with the realism of the game - although it is realistic that men are more likely than women to join gangs, become mad scientists or summon dark gods, it does mean that there are very few suitable Halloween costumes for girls to wear
