PvP community's thoughts on these two? Does one really edge out the other?
-
Beggars can't be choosers, mate. Show us what YOU want to do with YOUR build ideas, then try again.
Also, that's a pretty fun looking build, Jamie. How does it fare going full bore through baddies? -
What is your current strategy on beating him?
Are you rolling in there and trying to spank him flat?
Are you/have you tried killing the bifurcations?
Are you/have you tried Dragging him into lava? -
My Dark/Dark fender feels this way almost every time he teams. It's like he's almost better just leaving leadership on and cycling the primary without bothering with the blast, the output feels that anemic.

Father Xmas has two good PC setups for CoX in his signature. I've personally built one of them (the $725) for my girlfriend and we both are very pleased with it. If you cruise around NewEgg you can get the next step up better RAM at equal price to the set listed in his list, as well as tweak a few odds and ends to suit yourself.
It doesn't run the best with ZOMGBELLSANDWHISTLESTOELEVENTY!!!!1!! but it does run well into the upper limits graphics-wise, and like I said before we are both very pleased with its performance in CoX. Something I was very pleased with was the CPU. The CPU listed can have it's hidden fourth core "unlocked" through the mobo BIOS, turning your tri-core into a quad-core processor. Very nifty. -
I don't PvP much, but from my limited experience with my D3 in PvP I wouldn't expect to kill a whole lot, mainly as DoTs in Dark Blast aren't nearly as effective in PvP as they are in PvE. Death by a thousand papercuts isn't a very likely scenario.
HT/DN/FS are fun powers to drop on people, though. -
Of the two, what are your experiences with either armor in how tough the set was? I'm looking at making my first brute a DM/(Elec,Dark) and would love some input before I take him all the way. Any and all comments/experiences are welcome and appreciated!

Just curious, have ya tried the power analyzer? I find it incredibly helpful in fighting AVs in general.
-
Ah, both of you are right. Serves me to be reprimanded for posting that while working a double shift. What I'd do for a nap right about now. :-)

Neither build has enough KB protection. In RV, expect to be on your back *a lot.* You need 41/42 KB protection to keep from being kept on your backside all the time. Especially when your elude runs out, expect to be spiked with enough KB to make your head spin.
Also, the PvP system is not subject to the rules in PvE. Some powers are completely different between systems (Example: Laser Beam Eyes). Defense was made laughable as of i13 and hasn't really been changed since. -
Grounded is an odd power. When it says "Must be near the ground," it seems to really mean "Don't ever leave the ground." At least, that's how it feels to me.
I wish Grounded had like a discharge animation (like a static shock)/minor damage penalty for jumping out of Grounded's effective area. I mean, you are essentially 'ungrounding' yourself, which is quite hazardous. -
I'll give more insight as to what I was trying to do.
I am looking for a primary that allows me to put up fat, "wow-what did you just do, you broke it" orange numbers, and do then repeat them as fast as possible. An attack chain isn't really what I am going for. Think less "chain" and more "Whenever that power comes back up, everyone's going to know/see it." Right now I'm leaning on /Fire, as the overall damage output offered is the highest that I can see/toy with in Mids. (I'm not exactly thrilled about the cuts in survivability, but that's the sacrifice you gotta make I'm guessing). Once I can find a way to max my +damage, I'll start looking at ways to improve the global recharge. As I'm leaning on /Fire, I'll make my defense my overloaded offense and pray I can do enough before I drop dead. -
From what I can tell in Mids, Fire Armor is lesser resistance set (Compared to elec/dark/invul) with the ability to do a ton more damage. While an extra +DMG power is great, the set (from looks) looks like it really wouldn't keep myself alive very long to do anything significant given the multi-mob nature of CoX. I had considered /Fire before, but just got turned off the set in Mids when I saw how far I could crank the def/res on the secondary. The input is greatly appreciated though!

See title.
I'm trying to make a scrapper that puts up ludicrously high orange numbers and is ST-focused, attack chain be damned. I'm thinking that this has to be done as a BS/Shield or BS/Elec. The only problem is, I am god-awful at Mids. I've been hammering Mids at work for the past 7 hours or so, going from Mids newbie to.. Mids newbie in the process. My goals have been:
1) Max DamBuffs
2) Max Recharge
3) Max Defense/Resistances
4) No purples (Yet)
But I simply cannot seem to keep track of what I'm doing, and end up just being overwhelmed at all of the things I'm trying to max or just look at the build unsatisfied and start over (and over, and over, and over..). Does anyone know of any helpful tidbits or IO sets specifically to look at? -
Heh, you're probably right. But that should make it somewhat easier as far as using concept to determine what you want, if 'real-life' is a factor.
Considering your Dark choice; magic, incantations, chanellings, old-tomes of lore, something like that?
Then:
Where does your character do these things, or focus on these things? Near the dead, or near some spiritual/cursed grounds? -
I have a feeling that if you're going for concept, Zombies/Dark is a tall order to beat.

I have recently built a new PC for playing CoH with the girlfriend, and I get this problem. It occurs when I log into my account, choose a server, then back up to the server selection screen under the "heroes" screen. If I back up after choosing to create a praetorian or villian, this does not happen (as it backs up to different screens?) This doesn't happen on my machine at all, though they aren't similair machines.
Does anyone have any knowledge on how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

While this is here, I'm also in need of Duo advice:
I'm getting my lady to play and she's really digging the Archery set, probably an Archery/EM blaster for simplicity in learning the game. My immediate thought is "Roll a Tank!" but doing so I wouldn't be able to keep her alive if she did some errant moves early on. Any suggestions? I'm fluid with just about every AT and powerset, just never had to cover many Blasters before. -
Spines/DA Scrapper, or Spines/Fire Scrapper

I love my D3 as well, and the only thing I wish he could do better in a team from the trip from 1 to 50 was more damage. He has a great enough heal/debuff set/team support, just gotta make those DoTs really hurt and he's pretty much my all-in-one toon.

Fender Scourge and +30% dambuff when solo!? Sign me up!* **
*When its available.
**It's never going to be available. -
Since the topic's already up:
I'm looking to try and make a Sirens MM, something like Necro/TA or Ninja/Poison.
Is it even worthwhile to try, or should I just roll something with /Therm? -
I'm at work for the next long while and haven't been able to test ranged pets. Are they still going into melee bonkers mode?

Just a little Search-Fu and I was able to find this:

Quote:Maybe a few tweaks and adjustments from this as the post states that this build was done live, on a budget, with a very team centric focus; I think this could give you at least an idea. Hope this helps!

Quote:Haha, yeah I've seen enough from FF'ers out there and all I can say about that is DO NOT WANT. Maybe L20 was too low, but if I go higher than that I'll narrow down the selection (I try not to have alt-itis). I'm really torn between Necro/TA and Merc/Poison, with a slight nudge towards Necro being the pet AI is wonky atm. After that choice I'm gonna need to get another crash-course in slotting IO sets as my Slot-Fu is weak, but I figure I can dabble in Mids until I get something right. I appreciate everyone's input!Honestly, you can't judge a Mastermind set before level 32. For instance, if you level Bots up to 20 (or even 30) you'll think "they're tough, but pretty slow to kill things since they're almost all single target". Then hit 32 and get the second upgrade, and suddenly your bots are throwing out massive amounts of AoE death in the form of incendiary missiles, explosive missiles, cone laser blasts, and photon grenades. It totally changes how they play. Likewise, Necro pets suddenly start self healing, which is probably a game changer.
Likewise, some of the secondaries have very nice powers you get late. For instance, /Dark becomes a lot better once you get Fluffy (Dark Servant) and /Thermal suddenly switches from a pure buff set to also having debuffs. /FF, on the other hand, just keeps giving you more stuff you'll probably never use once you pass Dispersion Bubble.
