Welcome back!
One of us! One of us!
Heh, I kid, I kid. No harm trying other games, it's just nice to see you know your way back home! -
Quote:I've seen 50 carnies standing on the street just south of the train station at those buildings against the retaining wall below Wentworth's in King's Row as well.I've gotten hit by some else's ambush a few times as well. First time was a large mob of Purple-con Family running through Mercy, who were nice enough to stop and pump me full of lead before continuing to their destination.
Second time was a bunch of DE that were standing a few feet away from the Yellow line in King's Row.
Last time was also in King's Row. A Kheldian zoned into KR via the Yellow Line, and a bunch of high level Nictus spawned inside the Yellow line with her and began engaging everyone in the station.
Also, way back when I was leveling Imm, soloing in Galaxy City, I was around 3 or so, and just ducked behind a wall as a horde of 40ish Freakshow came around the corner. -
Quote:I understand what you're saying. It's all about perspective.Yeah, see, 30 million is along the lines of "mostly clean out one of my higher-level characters' inf to fund this character". Now, granted, it's not like it's a terrible deal for a softcap build's benefits, but what calling it cheap communicates to me is "this guy is speaking a different language than I am". It's probable that people who are more steeped in IOs than I am could make builds for my characters that I could afford, but it seems that they rarely bother, because "cheap" to them is "more than I can afford" to me.
(It also doesn't help that there is no Mac version of Mids and the online character builders I've seen are several issues out of date. Softcapping my ice tanker was an exercise in pencil, paper, and crosschecking the wiki's "IO sets" page. What fun.)
I don't look at 30 Million as a lot, and I'm sure there are other people who don't look at 300 Million as a lot.
But that's coming from someone who's had 2 purples drop in less than a week and sold them both for almost 700 million.
My only answer is dedication. Focus on one character. Get them capped so they can start making money for you, then worry about the fine tuning. -
Quote:Kitty Katiana, who I work with, is in my SG and my VG. I gave him a build that could softcap his claws/sr for around 30 million. Not quite trivial but doable easily without playing the market.I have two low-mid-level shield scrappers, a low-mid-level SR scrapper who stopped getting played due to out-of-game concerns, and an ice tank in the 40s - not exactly ancient expertise, but at least enough to get a sense of how defense works while leveling up the tank if nothing else. I softcapped the ice tank (one of the cheaper character builds to soft cap) and it still required gathering together influence from across my characters - I'm certain someone's going to say "oh, just play the market and it's trivial to get the inf together" but marketeering is just not at all fun to me. I don't think that people who enjoy playing the market are "playing the game wrong" or anything, but I also don't think that someone who doesn't want to play the market is playing wrong.
I'm sure one of us could make a really cheap softcapped shield build without too much problem as well.
I understand where you're coming from on not having fun in playing the market. There's stuff in every mmo I've tried I don't enjoy doing, and therefore I tend to ignore it. -

Quote:You probably got someone's influence transfer.I just had another one. I posted some Invention enhancements on WW's for 5 Inf (since I usually lose Inf on this anyway, it doesn't bother me if they sell low), then went to hunt for some badges while I waited for my stuff to sell. Once it sold, I went back and looked at my better then average earnings, then I noticed my 50 Range Enhancement sold for 75 MILLION inf. Either somebody hit too many zeros or the he/she had WAY too much Inf on their hands and wanted to burn some.
It's happened to me as well, but I only got a couple of million. -
Thanks for the update, Wyl!
I haven't had a chance to play her arc yet, I'll do that tonight. -
Welcome to CoX, xaosdark!
Feel free to global me as well @Imminent Violence and I'll gladly give you a bit of starter cash. -
Heh, sorry it's just a pet peeve of mine, I didn't mean to come across so snarkish.
Maybe I should quit posting right after I get home from work
By contrast, I also hate people who take up space at the post office parking lot by sitting in the car and reading mail.
People can use whatever terms they want really, I know I cannot change them from doing so, but I seem to have noticed, due to a certain film, that the term Avatar is getting wider use now.
And yes, Hube I understand you're new and still seeing the game through first time eyes, which is always when it's the most exciting in any game. I can understand your dissapointment when you're the only person rallying to defend the city from whatever threat/ invasion/ giant monster is rampaging in that zone. -

As is, by now, hopefully known in this game, and forum, I hate the term "toon". Toon is a Steve Jackson Games release, for tabletop roleplaying, not a Character, envisioned and played by me in any MMO. I never played a "toon" in D&D or any other tabletop game, with the exception of "Toon", and I've played pretty much any tabletop RPG you care to mention. Even my forum name on here is named after a tabletop/bluebook character from two seperate, yet coincidal (sp), games.
Regardless, no, I do not want, care, or need to get every badge on every character I make. I have two characters dedicated to badging, one blue and one red, and that's the only two I want every badge I can possibly get on.
I have ideas for certain characters where I desire one title or a certain accolade, but the thought of going through the same things repeatedly to get all the badges for every character I play on CoX is completly mind-numbing. -
Agreeing with Memphis_Bill, ClawsandEffect and Local_Man, I was in Wentworth's the other day and someone asked me if I was Cheat Code (or some variant) on another server.
I replied that no, I was Cheat Code on Freedom alone, and he told me a Tanker on another server was named the same thing. After a few minutes of conversation, I responded that I didn't know, or really care, which one of us had used the name first, that in this version of the Cox world, Freedom, I was the one and only Cheat Code and anything else was a mere Elseworlds edition. -
Quote:Heh, as a mainly Scrapper player I love this. I know I get myself into some stupid situations. Mainly, to push the envelope and see if I can get out of them.I got this the other day on an SG TF, totally pissed me off!
And the person tried to tell me "You're a Defender, why aren't you healing?" To which I replied, you're a fighter, why aren't you surviving?"
Scrappers are the Test Pilots of CoX. If we get into serious trouble, we can only blame ourselves, or the RNG. -
Quote:This.Players who have purple sets and PvP sets spent HUNDREDS of hours collecting them or collecting enough money to buy them.
Quote:And just for the record: Cramming as many purples and PvP IOs into a build as you can does not automatically make it a good build. I've seen builds that were chock full of those things and were absolutely atrocious.
ClawsandEffect is completely correct here, and so are Westley and Fleeting. It's not easy to get the drops/inf to purple out a a character, and those that do take the time to do so, deserve the bonus they get from it.
When you're exemplaring down it's so you don't make it boring. When you're lolpvping it's a bonus for taking the time to max out the character. -
Welcome to the City, Dbuter.
I know it seems like a lot to look over the list, but getting to your travel powers at 14 is really trivial and only takes a couple of hours with a good team.
Like was said, the Raptor Pack and Jump Pack will last you for ages. I still have several 50s without travel powers who have anywhere between 1 and one and a half hours of flight time left on their Raptor Packs.
With a little practice, even without a travel power, you can get to any part of the city in less than 5 minutes using base teleporters, Wentworth teleporters, Ouro portals and the tram system.
Travel powers are great fun, but in this game, getting to 14 and getting them is part of the journey, a milestone in your character's career, not something just handed to any hero who hits level 5 by beating on a few Hellions in Atlas Park or Galaxy City for 20 minutes.
If you're on Freedom, look me up, I'm always willing to help new players. My global is in my sig. -
Scientists have an amazing aptitude for combat, small arms, rifles, puzzle solving and survival against an overwhelming alien force.
Stealing a car will not result in a police report, investigation or search for the vehicle, unless it is done immediately in view of a cop. If this happens, a quick paint job will cause the police to abandon any pursuit.
Pre-teen boys full of angst and hormones can unleash a torrent of profanity equal to Darren McGavin in "A Christmas Story", or Jason Mewes on any given day, but only when they are exposed to their character being killed, beaten or bested in an online game. -
Quote:Oh I know very well he was there (Well he was in the RWZ) altho I have to admit I am a member of SUDTA and yes bashing TV is a fun thing, if you don't think so, go work in a store that sells TV crap you see on TV and then see if he as nice as you think (Dang Vince from Shamwow and SlapChop)
On that Note DEATH TO TV for allowing such a person to mind warp you allQuote:ya well the Television is a liar and you shouldn't believe a word from his mouth or speaker perhaps either way don't listen!Quote:Hey, disciples of The Television, may I ask you something: What has The Television done for us?
Dr. Aeon has given us the MA. He creates Dev choices. He coordinates Guest Author missions. He helps mission architects.
I think it's time for The Television to tell us what sort of programming he's up to...
My mind was warped long before Television entered my life, now I have seen the light, or at least the soft blue glow of The Television!
As an aside, has anyone else noticed the good Doctor and Television haven't posted in this thread lately... maybe they are using us, distracting us through their use of verbal obfuscation, combining forces to completely dominate the Entertainment industry! Perhaps knowing in the confusion of splitting us into TV and Aeon camps we will not notice... -
The Doctor could not take over Television from the inside, because he's in AE on blueside, the Television told me so.
-
Quote:Ahah, so you admit Dr. Aeon taught two men who had TV shows! So then Dr. Aeon knows and fears the power of the Television!Lies all Lies, Dr. Aeon is a respected man and would not use TV in any learning, take that statement back.
Ps Mr Wizard and Bill Nye the science guy all learned from Aeon -

Starless Step on my Warshade.
If I get bored, I strap on my trusty Raptor and fly around Atlas Park or Talos Island teleporting mobs into water or up really high just to watch them fall. -
My dear friend Television,
I have heard guarded whispers that Dr. Aeon learned all his science from watching reruns of Mr. Wizard on Nickelodeon, is this true?
