Now that I farm AE, I don't get bored.
  2. The best levelling system I have seen belonged to a MMO based off a popular sci-fi franchise. That system is now gone however after the developers made some rather insane design decisions.

Basically, there wasn't any levels. Every action you took gave you some xp of a particular variety which you could exchange for an ability in the corresponding skill tree. Everyone had access to every skill tree but every skill had prerequisites which made certain combinations more cost effective than others considering there was a cap as to how much xp you could spend.

For example, mixing multiple melee sets was more efficient due to having corresponding prerequisites than mixing ranged and melee and vice versa.

That is what actually brought me to CoH - the customization available via pool powers and such was a watered down version of what I enjoyed so I figured it was close enough.

I m an Aussie and I used to care about all the downtime until it encouraged me to play Baldur's Gate 2 again.
  4. Aside from the 15s of awesome, Power Boost only adds 7.4% defense to the build.

The subs that feature brings to the game isn't a benefit? You might not value the content those subs are able to generate but I am sure NCSoft appreciates it.

Having most or all subscribers suddenly stop subscribing would be all the signal needed for NCsoft to cut the cord. That publisher doesn't play.

And subscribers are currently going hog wild. There is a thread on here with SUBSCRIBERS dropping $100 or more on the store on the first day.

I think Paragon Studios has hit the jackpot with their hybrid model.

Your version (I believe) would cause the game to be shutdown.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
Actually, the Hybrid model they are using here is pretty unique. Traditionally, you are capable of buying everythign the game has to offer with a lump sum cash spend up which is not the case in CoH.
In the other models, it is those "Free" players who generate the most income, the short time players who spend hundreds of dollars and only play for a couple of months.
Subscribers are their bread and butter but Freebies are their Ferraris and Holiday Homes.

Its only taken since the introduction of this thread in january and the cebr post to come up with MARTy. Nerfbats are coming and the "serious about my AE arc" folks will jump up and down because they finally got what they wanted.
I imagine MARTy would have been in the works long before this thread came into existence...
Also I really doubt the AE arc folks will ever get what they want, regardless whether or not AE is used for farming, it is a fairly safe bet people won't be using it for story arcs.

A month ago if I didn't have going Rogue, I didn't have incarnates. Then if I chose to buy GR, I'd have incarnates.
    It isn't rocket science.

Either way this entire conversation is ridiculous. It doesn't matter in the slightest - this is a whole new system and the Devs can do what they want. Rather than feeling screwed because Prems don't have Incarnate capabilities, how about they feel grateful for having everything else.
  12. I made a new alt the other day and street hunting in AP has become a nightmare.
There is a lot of power recharge lag going on in there and that isn't lag that can be caused by anything other than a slow server. This started after the latest server upgrades.
  13. I got my token 5 days late but no points.

So as far as I am concerned none of the official product descriptions for Going Rogue included anything about Incarnates.
I was in the opposite situation to this. I returned to the game after Incarnates had gone live and before buying GR.
I bought GR after I tried to get on an Incarnate trial and found out I had to have GR to do it.

    hero merit?

You have to be a hero (not a Vig).
It is located in Atlas Park, it has a marker on the map but if for some reason you don't see it, look for the statue with the headband wings in the lake, it is in a cave below there.

You don't have to drop money on zones, or quest packs, or anything that in any way impedes you from playing the game from 1-50.
Maybe I should clarify. On a personal note, I am absolutely glad that there are things you can't gain with lump sum one time purchases. It means I will stay subbed and continue playing as per normal with no real opportunity cost.
In other Hybrid games, the decision is not so easy, I can stay subbed or I can drop a hundred or so dollars and play for free, because you can't buy incarnates, that decision is made for me and I am grateful for that.

I am just saying, CoH has deviated from the norm with this set up and it probably isn't a smart move financially. If it was done as a money grab, it would have been done the same proven way that the other MMOs do it. I think they have deviated from the norm and have sacrificed their own earning potential because they want to increase the longevity of this game and I salute them for that.

The hybrid model doesn't usually run that way. Usually everything is available for free to play players for a lump sum price and this works out very very favourably to the company. Most people aren't lifers when it comes to a MMO, they stay for a few months tops. The F2P model is designed to milk as much money out of them as possible during their short stay and it works wonderfully.
I for one am very susceptable to the Hybrid model, I think "yay, a hundred bucks now and I'll never have to pay again!" two months down the road, I have no intentions of ever playing again and I have dropped $100 when I could have got the same value for $30.

NCSoft obviously is taking a different route and that is their choice to make, I'm just not sure there is any wisdom to it but I for one am happy they chose to take the path less travelled.

Also, I love your avatar - everytime I see it I feel compelled to smile!

    Yes this.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed the game has become insanely laggy since the new upgrades? Trying to street hunt in AP is akin to running a 24 man BAF before the fixed it, there is much much power recharge lag. This wasn't the case prior to the downtime.
  19. I'm the same on my main account. It auto-renewed itself 3 days ago but no paragon reward and no 400 PP.
I am assuming they haven't really sorted all the details out yet and that it will catch up eventually.

And, more on topic- They aren't doing maintenance at certain times to purposefully or ignorantly inconvenience Oceanic players. Their studio is in North America, most of their customer base is in North America, their servers are in North America. One way or another, they WILL inconvenience people with down time, but inconveniencing the MAJORITY of the customer base at prime time is just a very stupid idea in general. If it's a choice between that or having the server hopefully up and running by the time the majority of players generally get online, it only makes sense to pick the latter.
Firstly, how long did you have to stare at those nipples before you noticed those flaps?

Secondly, the problem isn't that it targets the same people everytime - that is understandable. The problem is that it is targeting Friday night's Primetime which is at the very best, poor business design.
Until the Earth starts taking 7 days to rotate, there isn't any reason that any planned downtime has to effect the Friday night of anyone anywhere in the world.
This is the second week running that they have shown this level of disregard.

They are a business, they are going to do what's good for business and effects the least people. Sorry if you expected a MMO to be exempt from reality.
What can it be then? It has to be either malice or stupidity to have the scheduled downtime on a Friday night's prime time. Surely it is more economical to have that downtime on a Thursday night or any other night?
It may be an oversight but I think that when it comes to business, oversight and stupidity are synonymous.

I'm aware of that and I don't expect some form of compensation but from a customer service perspective, it sure would be nice for them to do so.

At the end of the day, it depends on how each player feels about service that they are paying for. If they feel they aren't getting what they want or the treatment they deserve they will vote with their money.
Brandishing the EULA in their face is simply counterproductive. People may grudgingly accept it but they may not be happy about how its handled.
The only form of compensation they need to offer is to stop screwing over Oceanic players.
Yes maintenance has to happen and is isn't actionable.
However, the Devs are doing at a time which is either done with malice or done with extreme stupidity.
This is the second week in a row Friday night has been out for Oceanics, Friday night is as prime as primetime gets. How about instead of Thursday morning, the Devs do their thing Wednesday morning, or Tuesday morning, or Monday morning, or any morning that doesn't equate to the prime of all prime times. It isn't unreasonable to expect courtesy.

I tried bringing my Oceanic guild to this game and yay for me it worked! For a short time... They arrival was misfortunate enough to coincide with i21 and the lack of uptime of the servers sent each and every one of them packing.
That is $240 a month NCSoft is missing out on, it sounds inconsequential but I'd be willing to bet far more potential subs have been lost than my friends.

The best solution would be to have at least one server with different maintenance times.
