    IO Question...

IMO, the difference is minimal, and having the recharge when I exemp down is of greater value.
That's why I put "stupid humor" notes on my post. I wasn't being serious.
  2. Personally, I'd like to see more crossover bonuses in sets. For instance, knockback sets often give some damage and so do slows, but none of the holds or immobilize do. An accurate to hit with damage would be very popular I bet.

Sure, most people can't rake in enough to purple their toons, but so what? ANYONE can get enough to always be able to afford SO's and for common IO's at higher level.
This gets at what was brought up earlier in the thread: Expectations. Post an SO-only build or a frankenslotted build on the forums asking for advice and you'll get a purpled response. Result is people think they need such builds on every character. The expectation bar is set way too high.
  4. If you're using SOs, then no more than 3 of any single type. Generally people like 1 Acc, 3 Damage, and the other two either 1 endred & 1 recharge, or sometimes 1 recharge and a second acc if you like to fight higher level enemies. But preferences vary.

When using Inventions, in general for single-target blasts Thunderstrike is the on that gives the best ranged defense set bonus. You can also "frankenslot" which means mixing the best from multiple sets so you don't get a great set bonus, but instead you have much higher total enhancements. In that case look at the IO triples from sets like Ruin, Devastation etc. which are very affordable and give multiple good bonuses all in one.

With SOs alone you could get something like 33% acc, 99% dam, 33% end, 33% recharge. But Frankensloting gives something much more impressive:
    Ruin - Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge: Level 40
    Devastation - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance/Recharge: Level 50
    Devastation - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 43
    Thunderstrike - Accuracy/Damage/Endurance: Level 43
    Thunderstrike - Damage/Endurance/Recharge: Level 43
    Thunderstrike - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 43

Gives a total bonus of: 93.18% Accuracy, 93.57% Damage, 76.8% Endurance Reduction and 93.18% Recharge Reduction

I've done enough farming to appreciate/estimate the improved efficiency. But I'm not a 'serious farmer' so I don't hang out with other farmers and have no clue how many there are.
I can say this. I tried Cat's hour challenge with both my normal characters and my "best" 50s. My absolute highest income was just over 2mil per hour (it's not really called "farming" if you're at -1/x3 and still getting killed) and I rarely play for an hour at a time. The "real" farmers can outproduce in 1 hour what I get in a month with plenty of room to spare. And that's just vendor rates (ie Inf generated, not wealth accumulated via selling purples on the market).

I play with pugs and I watch. I'm not an above-average player, but I'm not the worst either. There are a whole lot of "regular players" out there who don't earn much inf at all. And a surprising number who don't understand the market. I tell at least one person a week why you would want to list something at lower than vendor rates on the market.

And I run into people every time I log in that don't have any 50s yet. Fewer since AE, but they're still out there. The earning power of a 35 is several orders of magnitude below that of a 50. These people, some of them don't even know the game has a forum. But they play every day.

Short version: I agree with Mac, I bet less than 20% earn more than 80% of the inf.

    IO Question...

    begin stupid humor:

Don't forget that the IO also has a +Def modifier which is subject to ED and exemplaring reductions as well. and the higher level versions give more +Def. No one ever remembers that part.

    End stupid humor.
  7. A better link for seeing the value of IOs vs SOs than the one Fury linked to is this table.

A single-aspect IO is better than a +3 DO at level 15, equal (32% compared to 33.3%) to a +0 SO at 25, and equal to +3 SO at 35.

A dual-aspect IO is equal to a +3 DO at level 12, better than a +0 SO at 21, and better than a +3 SO at level 24.

A triple IO is better than a +3 DO at level 11, better than a +0 SO at level 18, and better than a +3 SO at level 20.

The quads aren't on the list.

Shortened-short version: If SOs are good enough for you, then a level 18 triple IO is just as good, and a level 20 is better than any SO will ever be.

If you run Task Forces below level 50, or Oroboros for Merits, or exemp to play with friends, PvP or any of the other ways that high level characters drop, you want to avoid level 50 IOs for maximum power at those lower levels.

Something to keep in mind if you don't need set bonuses and just frankenslot: While exemping any individual bonus lower than 20% is immune to exemplaring all the way down to level 21. So, for instance, the level 43 triple IOs work at full effect all the way down to level 21. The level 50 IO would be crippled giving only half it's normal power.

    Just something to think about.

Ah yes, Jack. spectacular writing. Very dark humor. Good stuff though. Dinner at Arloests should have earned him an award of some kind.

I would like one change: More types of longbow troops. They really, really need more variety. Since we ahve to deal with them so often a bit of flavor would go a long way.
  10. That was silly of me wasn't it?

Here you go. My recommendation is to start with episode 6 and then back up to #1 and go forward again. But there's really no wrong way to read it.

Well, I hope there isn't. I'm sure someone could try and find one though. =)

  12. If you think waiting for more gunnerkrieg court is hard (and I agree having been a fan of that one for a long time), then I present to you the ultimate tragedy of online comic waiting:

    Platinum Grit

Being going strong since 1994. One new 100-page book comes out every 9 months (roughly). There are 20 of them. They are gorgeously drawn, they use the single-panel presentation of Flash better than anything else I've ever seen, and they have cliff hangers that will break you when you realize how long until the next episode. Starting with episode 6 is a good idea, then back up to see how the story got there. And I'm really, really sorry. If you become a fan, I apologize now.

    And speaking of flash:
Bitey Castle. No it's not Bitey's Castle. Wicked faery, faster than the flash, causes trouble and get's it in the end. Beautifully drawn with outstanding music (especially in "The Yuyu").
  13. Just curious since it is set in Australia if anyone is familiar with it.
  14. I run a dark/dark stalker who doesn't do a whole lot of stealth, and I can say that breaking the fear isn't an issue if you combine both auras.

The fear also packs a decent to hit penalty and if you slot for that instead of fear duration, let them attack. They'll mostly miss and give you more fury to beat them down with.
  15. Does anyone know if the rates that rare salvage drops is balanced with the number of recipes that drop that require rare salvage? At any given time there seem to be A LOT more recipes needing salvage than salvage to craft them. And anecdotally, I typically get 7 or 8 recipes that require rare salvage for every piece that drops. But I never actually tracked it.

    Just curious.

Actually no. The market is an influence drain/transfer machine. It is not a source. The main source of influence is farming. All the rest of us use the market to get lots of inf from farmers, and medium levels of inf from regular schmoes who don't know how to be patient.

But that's only inf transfer, not generation.

    lvl 50 content

You know, I've never had a character hit 50 and not still have a ton of story arcs in progress. Some of the end-arcs are really long. Crimson, Unai Kemmen, the Praetorian arc from Maria Jenkins, etc. Never been finished with ALL of that when I hit 50.

If i did, id have every snipe, stun and sleep recipes out there. lol.
I actually have three of these. They are very embarrassing. Not only have they slotted garbage, they have badly chosen powers and slot allocations. But they are still fun. Back on Diablo II it was common for people to use their own drops only and I got into that habit, it's fun from time to time. Definitely not the right thing for every character though.

An on the marketeering, I second eryq2: I consider it flipping etc. Selling your drops is selling. Buying other people's drops is shopping. Doing anything else is marketeering. I really wish I was better at it, but I do ok enough for me.
  19. The real question is:

Is there a way to share saved costume files and is that legit?

So that another person could design my character's costume for me without logging into my account.

If I get bored with all that, I've yet to do anything with AE so I might give that a whirl. Although there may not be definitive tasks, like raiding to get loot, there's just too much content to "complete" by lvl 50.
If you haven't yet you NEED to visit the Shadow Shard. Peregrine Island, take the exit to Fire Base Zulu.

If you're merit farming, there is no reason to do it on any setting other than -1/x0 with bosses turned off for fastest times. If you are "merit +lowbie drops farming" then set it anywhere you like for the combination of speed plus drops.

Unless you're redside and doing the Pithers arc. But then you either aren't a Scrapper, or you have an early copy of Going Rogue and I have to track you down, kill you, and steal it for myself.

If your base has a medbay then the self destruct power from the cyborg Booster is also a base teleport. =)
  24. To get to the OP: I think what happened to Donna is sadder, but his voice saying those lines was very powerful.

On Jack, I actually like him a lot in Dr. Who and haven't seen any Torchwood. I'm actually glad they don't do more with the psychology of immortality because I really can't see it being anything but really boring angsty cliche. And his character does change over time, at least within the Dr. Who shows. Especially when you consider the Face of Bo's behavior.

On the radiation, it reminds me of a quote one of the writers made about the best part of writing for a time travel show being there is no such thing as a continuity error since you can explain anything away by saying time travel to before that moment changed the events. That said, it is two different kinds of radiation, and that has been relevant before (Midnight, for instance he reacts to the outside). I also theorize that he might not have been thinking clearly and doomed himself by not trying to save himself. Still, great scene there.

They belong on the list. The list is of factions that don't recruit. Snakes don't recruit they reproduce.
