  1. Hi there,

So, a concept for a Stone/Shield Brute has started rattling around in my head. I realize it's not the FOTW, but I'm sure someone out there has had some success/enjoyment from this combo. Anyone care to share?

So when do we get the weapon customization that allows us to swing around a humanoid body as a weapon?
In one of the other threads about this, I expressed my fervent hope that two of the Weapon Customization options for this at least be Arachnos Trooper, and Longbow Trooper. You know, for balance.

  3. If the following has been mentioned yet, my apologies:

I'm throwing my hat in for one very important big-weapon request: Longbow/Arachnos trooper. Just lug the dude around by the ankle, then when it's clobbering time, wheeeeeee!

I must be wired a little differently, because I don't see this move as shutting people out. I'm seeing an opportunity for people to get their foot in the door, and see (or revisit) what they've been missing.

"Monthly story arc?" I'm starting to think I missed something somewhere. Was this in the Ustream, and if so, can someone provide a 20-words-or-less explanation?

Actually, it's because SD doesn't really shine until it gets softcapped. That's why when levelling, I suggest carrying around some Lucks for a while. It'll make your life better. Otherwise, MA is underperforming for a while, but once you get Shield Charge and your epic AoE attack, it feels a lot more powerful, because then you're not just a ST attacker.
I just spent the past hour after reading this crying in the shower like Tobias Fünke, but I have found the strength to carry on.

I spent a lot of last week's playing time working that guy into shape. He's certainly not softcapped yet, but I think he has turned the corner. It took both a Miracle and a Numina unique before his endurance situation stabilized (I couldn't rock a tray full of purples like you advocate b/c I needed so many blues ). As I said, I think he's at least to the point where the rest of the way won't be an exercise in frustration.

As I said before, thanks for inspiring me to try this fellow again.

  7. Would they really do it over the weekend of the actual holiday? If memory serves, in the past requests like that have often caused some wailing and gnashing of teeth from folks whose holiday weekend plans have included, well, holiday weekend plans.

Whoops, my bad! I confess, first time through I skimmed the section on pool powers, so I missed that you're advocating Tactics to cover that hole. Of course, Murphy's Law then mandated that I see the line about Clarion destiny. If my face wasn't green, it would surely be red right now.

Point cheerfully conceded. Have a good day!

  9. Hi,

Good, informative guide. Only thing I'd take issue with is the statement that Elec Armor covers all status effects; every time a Longbow Warden Terrorizes my Elec Brute, or BAF escapees confuse him into bipping a teammate with Havoc Punch, I am reminded of that. To be sure, that hardly makes the case for Clarion Destiny, but those are edge cases about which the prospective player should be aware.

    Well done.

    Elec/Rad builds?

    Hey there,

So I was contemplating another Controller, and I was thinking Electric/Radiation could be a lot of fun (I think Choking Cloud + Conductive Aura could be pretty amusing). Anyone got any experiences with it they'd care to share?

My thought process is that I don't want to endure the shame of having lost to some other loser team that gets beaten in the very next round. That would mean that not only were the Packers better than the Falcons, but so are the Bears, since they would have beaten the team that beat us. And if the Bears had played in and lost the Super Bowl, so are the Steelers, because they beat the team that beat the team that beat us. If you think about it, the provably suckiest team in the playoffs last year was the Patriots. They lost to a team (the Jets--a Wild Card team, no less) that lost to a team (the Steelers) that lost to a team (the Packers). Even the Colts can take comfort in the fact that their ouster at least won the Divisional game.

As it is, though, the Packers ended up going all the way and won the Super Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, we were second best team in the league, because nobody proved otherwise. Could we have beaten the Bears like the Packers did? HELL YEAH! Could we have beaten the Steelers and won the Super Bowl? HELL YEAH! (And before you bring up week one, it was week one for crying out loud, and we lost in friggin' overtime. We were a LOT better team than the Steelers by the end.)

So yeah, we had the unfortunate luck of being knocked out early by the number one championship team in the world, so sue us. It's like losing a tennis match to Roger Federer, it's a little different than losing to Steve the guy in accounting. At least you can say, "Well, it was Roger Federer..." And when the Falcons were knocked out by the Packers (who did admittedly trounce us in our own stadium ), I immediately became a cheesehead.
Oh, that's just the Stockholm Syndrome talking.

I'm not enough of a hockey fan to really have a dog in this fight, but my wife's old high school's team was the Canucks*, so that's one reason for me to pull for Vancouver.

I was certainly willing to accept, "Wouldn't be a superstar before IO Sets," but the results I was actually getting were, umm, less than that.

So, last night I planned out a Set-piece build, did the respec (but right now it's all still Common IOs), and rearranged my trays, but by the time I finished I was so tired that instead of One With the Shield, I logged and did powexecname One With the Pillow. Performance evaluation of AEGIS-8's new build will be conducted Soon(tm).

  15. Hey,

Interesting-looking guide. I have a L39ish MA/SD Scrapper that I simply loathe, but I'm certainly ready to concede the possibility that's my fault. I'm hoping he can be salvaged into something useful without needing a ton of cash dropped on him. I'll check out the builds tonight (I'm one of Local Man's examples, looking at this on my phone ).

  17. Hi,

This is just the kernel of an idea I had. I don't know how plausible it is; in fact, if I had to bet on outcomes, I'd bet on "Black Scorpion straps on his Incarnate-powered armor and comes lookin' to punch me in the face," much sooner than I would, "Black Scorpion gets right to it."

We get all those temp power recipes for various attacks. Revolver, Hand Grenades, etc. Among the problems with them is that in many cases, they don't "mesh" well with my existing powers. Gate's an Invuln/SS Tanker, if I pull out a little Revolver, well, honestly that's a little silly-looking.

Is there a feasible way to either make recipes for Temp Powers that are more, well, power-ish? One of the ideas I'd had that was in the more Black-Scorpion-punches-me category was a recipe that, when crafted, lets you make a Temp Power that looks & acts like a temp-power-version of any unselected powers from your Primary/Secondary power sets. In Gate's example, I like Hurl, it looks cool, but I didn't like it well enough to take it over Laser Beam Eyes, so if I craft one of these recipes, I could get like, 20 charges of the Hurl Temp Power.

Just a thought. Go on, poke some holes in it...

I'd almost rather see a 1950's retro B-movie booster pack, with classic "discombobulator" blasters, old Flash Gordon style jet packs, astronaut "bubble helmets", lots of kooky alien skins and heads, Jacob's ladder antennae, Tesla coils, Cadillac fins, beehive hairdos, antigravity belts, etc etc etc...
If the Devs did a Liefeld pack for, say $10, they could make a killing selling a booster that prevented you from seeing costume pieces from that pack. Heck, I'd pay $20 to get the Liefeld-blocking Pack.

Did I say twenty? Heck, thirty!

  21. Yeah, if I went Ageless Core and took the +Recov, that would be carte blanche for anyone to slap me on principle.

I'm thinking I'll start with Ageless Radial and see how it goes. If I end up with implausible amounts of free time and spare Incarnate Components, I'll spin up Barrier and Rebirth, see how I like them on this guy.

I also just realized that Issue 7 launched five years ago yesterday. Happy Birthday, OhmWrecker! I'll have to take him on a Mayhem mission to celebrate, go steal something nice.

  22. Hey,

So one more thought on the topic of this guy. Any thoughts on which Destiny Invocation might work best? I'm really torn between Barrier Core (for that MOG-style defensive burst), Ageless Radial (debuff Resistance), or Rebirth Radial (yummy +Regen).

    Opinions?

  23. Ever since Soul Mastery got Darkest Night it's looked particularly compelling for Brutes, but this guy has to stay Mu Mastery for concept reasons (I know, I know...).

The current iteration of the plan is a hybrid of what I'd done initially and some of the ideas EJI put forward. S/L on this version is at about 33.6, up from the 30-point-something the first version had (every little bit helps). The key points of difference were that I left the slots in Health (I'm a chicken, I stick with what I know), left the 2 pieces of Lockdown in Power Surge for the Acc, and didn't up Tough to 4 slots.

Thanks again for taking the time!
