Actually if you drop to Premium, your Incarnate Powers will become greyed out. No incarnate access at all for non-VIPs.

    30 day limit?

How this interacts with I21/Freedom I'm not sure

VIP level - should be no limit
    Freebies - will be there

    Premium - I'm not sure.
Freebies can't use the market anyway. If they buy the license, then they have spent money and become Premium.
  3. Hi Tessa,

Gonna chime in on the "it's your call" side on this one. One thing to note though. Since the previous leader is a previous subscriber, he likely WOULD be able to at least be a MEMBER of an SG. Forming one is a bit higher up the chain, but I believe anyone who is classified as "Premium" (has ever spent money on a version of the game, booster, expansion, or a single month subscription) can join SGs. He wouldn't be able to edit the base, under any condition, unless he became a VIP, but he could happily exist as a member, letting someone else run the show.

I am pretty much on par with you guys. To me, what makes a role-playing game a role-playing game is that it is your character's stats and abilities that matter much more than your own. It's the nature of the beast that a computer based MMO can't rely ENTIRELY on character stats in the way that old school pen-and-paper RPGs do, but getting as close as possible is a "good thing" in my opinion.

One of the things I like about the mostly instanced nature of CoH is that it allows a player some control over the pace of the game and accommodates a variety of play-styles. This, of course, assumes that you are either running solo or teamed with like-minded individuals. If you want to be more tactical, trying to break up large groups with pulling, being careful not to take on too much aggro at once, you usually can. If you prefer to use brute force to steamroll, you can do that too. MMOs which use more "open world" content don't allow this because there's always the chance that groups can respawn around you at any moment and quickly overwhelm you.

Ironically, my girlfriend can't play CoH for an extended period of time because she finds it makes her feel physically exhausted. She says the game is too fast paced for her. She prefers that well-known, overrated, fantasy based MMO which is more open-world.

What you are missing is that unless they add more than six powersets in a year, ALL POWERSETS, EVEN THE PREMIUM POWERSETS will be FREE to VIPs. And even if they add even 6 a year, you are getting more for your subscription dollar than you have ever gotten in the past, even if you can't afford to buy all the powersets.
  6. Sorry but this just seems so appropriate here.

IF they give us two, as Nericus suggests they might, I offer one helpful tip to those who are new and may not have gotten or used freespecs before. Use the first respec on all the characters you plan to before they issue the second one. A character can only have ONE "Freespec" at a time. If you haven't used the first one, you won't get the second one. Of course, if you didn't use the first one already, you probably don't need two to begin with.
  8. I still have hard time getting a mental image of Lani Tupu (Captain Crais) doing the voice of Pilot. I did read that he said in an interview that he always had to record his lines as Pilot first, and then shoot the scenes where he was Commander Crais because Crais' voice was in a register that was so much lower, after he did those lines he couldn't reach the register to voice Pilot.
  9. First of all, earning Infamy is already not a huge deal for veterans. Many of them have to come up with tricks to store all of their infamy because they have such and excess over and above the cap. Furthermore, I am not suggesting gating it behind real world money. Gating would imply that you would be FORCED to buy it. That is not what I am suggesting at all. I am simply suggesting that this could be a way to take away the market from the RMTers.

Finally, as I said, I don't necessarily think this is a good idea. I clearly stated that I have mixed feelings about it, personally.

One more question, if I am a "Newbie" and I have been here 2 years longer than you, what does that make YOU exactly?
  10. I know this idea may not exactly be popular among some of the players--I have mixed emotions about it myself. What if the Paragon Store were to sell Inf? Doing this would provide easier access for players than any RMTer is ever going to be able to offer. Additionally, since RMTers have expenses in order to acquire inf, and Paragon Studios/NCSoft does not, it would be impossible for the RMTers to offer a competitive price and still maintain an appealing profit margin. In the end, it would be far more effective for the RMTers to move to greener pastures than it would be for them to try to compete in such a market.
  11. Just as an aside, for these unlockable contacts that you miss early in the game (especially the one in Port Oakes), you can always unlock them later and run their arcs through Ouroboros once you are level 25 (will actually only need to be 14 once Freedom hits). The fact that you now get XP along with merits for running flashbacks through ouroboros is just icing on the cake, IMHO.
  12. I'll go with Zombie Man on this one and say that the liklihood of a Freespec with the release of Freedom is extremely high. Typically, if they make changes to powersets that a large number of existing characters are likely to benefit by taking advantage of, they give a freespec. Both the ability to take travel powers at level 4 without a prerequisite, as well as the addition of new powers to those same pools both seem like things that a lot of existing characters will benefit from. Therefore, if the patterns of the past hold true, we should be seeing a freespec.

Victims of the fallacy view the reduction from 100% to 20% as a reduction in quantity.

However, so far, we have precisely ZERO evidence that the absolute quantity of power sets that will be given for free will be lower than it has been historically.
I agree with you fully Shadowe, but you are also making another common mistake those complaining about having to pay for powersets are making. You are assuming that just because something is Premium that it automatically means you have to spend more than your subscription.

A few posts back in this thread, I made this post which lays out why it is mathematically impossible for someone not to get MORE powersets and other features with their subscription than they have ever received in the past. All without spending a single penny more than their subscription. The only way for them not to receive more is if the developers top releasing any new content at all, premium or otherwise.
  14. I think part of the issue started with the death of Zhaan. She was the medic, a fairly critical role to fill, and when her character was killed off they had to come up with something to fill that void. They added Jool for a bit, and then when she is finally starting to bond with the rest of the crew and stop acting like a princess, they write her character out and give us Sikozu and Norandi.
  15. The entire point of Praetoria is that no one side is really a "Hero" or "Villain" they are all a little bit of both and somewhere in between. If you follow the "Responsibility" arc, none of that is really Villainous. You are enforcing the law and protecting innocents. You aren't really abusing your power. Heck, truth be known, you are probably more of a Hero than an ever-growing chunk of Longbow.

Then there is the Powers Division arc. Here, you are still upholding the law and protecting the interests of the government (Cole). You may walk a fine line at times, and even stick your toe over it a time or two, but you aren't really a "Villain".
  16. I dunno, to some extent it was the conflict between the characters that made the show more interesting. It gave the characters more depth, in my opinion, than what you typically see in a Sci-Fi series. Babylon 5 was a good series for this same reason.

Don't get me wrong, there were times when I definitely think the story moved in the wrong direction and made me go, "What? No. I can't quite see the crew of Moya doing that." Such as the whole befriending Scorpius thing. Okay, he saved Aeryn, and I know they are grateful, and they probably wouldn't just execute him, but I can't see them keeping him around either. I can much easier see them doing something like, "Thanks a lot Scorpi! Now, where can we drop you off?" There was just way too much bad blood there. I also think they dragged the whole "Neural Clone" thing out for a bit too long, but that's just me.

Also, like you, I think the 4th season was definitely inferior to the seasons before it. I didn't really care for Sikozu and couldn't really see why the rest of the crew even kept her around. The way they introduced Noranti was also a bit...off, even for Farscape. She just sort of appeared at the end of Season 3 and they never really clarified where she came from. On a few occasions, the crew even ask where she came from, and no answer is ever really given. You assume she was on the Scorpius' Peacekeeper Command Ship, but beyond that...nothing. Even that is questionable as even the Peacekeepers don't really seem to know anything about her.
  17. Yes, I know the series ended a few years ago, but this year is the very last Farscape Convention. The Farscape site run by the Henson Company still lists webisodes as "In Production", but the absence of some of the key cast members (namely Anthony Simcoe, Gigi Edgley, and Claudia Black) at this final convention doesn't really bode well. Even Ben Browder will only be appearing for one day.

I actually miss Farscape. It was an extremely well done series and, in my opinion, far outshines most of the other Sci-Fi series we have seen, including Star Trek. The characters were so much more rich and well-developed than in most Sci-Fi series.

If you are a Sci-Fi fan and haven't seen this series before, I highly recommend. All four of the regular seasons are available on Netflix streaming. What would have been the fifth, and final, season of the show, had it not been cut short, was later released as a mini-series, "The Peacekeeper Wars". It was abbreviated to make it fit into a mini-series format, and is not available through Netflix streaming, but is available on DVD.

My description of the concept likely makes it sound much simpler than it would actually be in practice. That's the luxury of coming up with ideas, never having actually seen the code it would have to be made to work with.

Honestly though, given the fact that the Paragon Studio devs really do have a history of listening to the community and trying to implement features that the community shows an interest in, I can only assume the absence of a feature like this is, at least partially, deliberate. It's something that is discussed often enough that I am sure everyone at Paragon Studios is aware of it.

I can understand their reluctance. Statistics show that, while there are those who prefer to play MMOs as lone wolves, those who play with others typically have a longer retention rate. Yes, there are exceptions, but generally solo players don't subscribe for as long as those who team up regularly with friends. By not making single-person SGs easy to set up and maintain, it encourages people to either join an existing SG or to find one or two people to join yours.

Even with the current limitations, it is still not all that difficult to do. It's usually fairly easy to find someone willing to join your SG temporarily to recruit an alt for you. Once that's done, earning the prestige to pay the rent on a small-to-medium sized base is not difficult.

I started a private base just a few weeks ago (shortly before DXP weekend). Just using me and a couple of alts, I already have 9 Salvage store, Personal Crafting, Personal Vault, Full Energy and Control Rooms, the Pillar of Ice and Flame, and 4 teleporters. I have earned the beacons for all of the Blue side zones, including hazard zones, but can only have 8 beacons set up at a time until I add more teleporters. Hardly a huge deal since I can easily swap them in and out if I feel the need. As it stands, I just set up the zones that I find I go to the most often (AP, PI, Pocket D, and RWZ are the big 4).

When Freedom hits, I am gonna making a couple of new alts (neither of which will probably have Beam Rifles, believe it or not), so will probably just find someone that I can either ask or bribe to handle the inviting for me.

Really? Can't use the card on more than a couple accounts? What the hell kind of business is NCSoft running? "No, I refuse to take your money because you already GAVE me some money before."
There are actually TWO reasons why they do this:
    1. To protect customers against Credit Card Fraud
    2. To Help Combat The Presence of RMTers

I have two very nice SG and a VG I run that basically consist of me and my friend and all of our alts. If he's not on line I can dual box with my 2nd account to invite a new character to the group but being able to invite via email would be great.

I KNOW the Devs are probably leery because there would be SGs out there emailing invites to everyone but they already have a system in place to stop that. Put that person on global ignore or limit your emails to friends and SG mates and no one can bother you.
An even better guard against that already exists. Currently, you can restrict "Global" emails to "Global Friends Only". If the system were set up to use something akin to a Cert or Voucher, it could only be sent to those who had you as a global friend. That method may even provide a built-in mechanic for handling those invites. If you send the invite to a global name, it generates a cert/voucher instead of the typical pop-up.

  22. Okay, this thread and a few others state or imply that when Freedom launches, you will be forced to spend more than your subscription in order to get the same value as you currently receive for your subscription. I decided, therefore, to go back and look at the announcements for every issue ever released since the game's launch on April 28th, 2004.

As of yesterday, the game has been live for 88 months. In that time, only 11 new powersets have ever been added. This does NOT include the powersets added when the Epic Pools were added because that was part of a new game mechanic. It also does not include the powersets that were added with CoV or Going Rogue because they were not added as part of your normal subscription, they required an additional purchase.

This means, that they have only introduced, on average, one new powerset every 8 months. Using your monthly VIP stipend, that means in order to get the same value as you currently get for your subscription, you would be spending, on average, 100 points a month (based on the current Beta prices). That leaves an additional 300 points per month for costume parts or even MORE powersets or other goodies. Even MORE points if your Paragon Rewards tier is high enough.

Now sure, it's possible they will introduce a new powerset every single month, and you won't be able to buy all of them. Even if you don't buy every single one, you will still be able to get many more than you currently receive with your subscription. It is mathematically impossible for you to get less value than you already get unless they completely stop introducing any new content at all.
  23. Now see, personally, I can't stand Nicholas Cage. It is partially due to the fact that I don't think he is all that great of an actor. Partially, I think it is due to the fact that they have made it a habit of casting in the roles that don't seem to fit him well and he just doesn't seem believable in.

I will say, that he was tolerable in "Kick ***", but that is partially because he wasn't all that prominent so couldn't do much damage. Besides, he was usually opposite Chloe Moretz, who stole the scenes so much that you didn't really notice him there. Additionally, the sort of dry humor and wit that his character was used for in that movie was something that he was able to pull off.

Someone who really deserves a spot on that list is Idris Elba, an actor who I personally feel is greatly under appreciated and under utilized.

Four is actually TOO many. Because of diminishing returns/enhancement diversification, the amount you gain after the second enhancement is reduced. After the third, the gain is small that it is not worth it. You are much better off moving that slot over to Stamina and adding in a second END MOD there.

For Endurance management, I typically 4 slot my Stamina. I either put in 3 END MODs and a "Chance for END" from one of the Endurance Modification sets, or I try to partially slot one of the END MOD sets to get the set bonuses, depending on the AT and Build I am working on. Someone who is better at number crunching that I am can probably tell you the "optimum" way to slot your Stamina.
  25. Originally, the fact that the pack is permanent was listed as a "Known Issue". It was later, removed the from the list and classified as "Working as Intended" due to technical issues with allowing it to be removed. The "lore" reason given by a Red Name at the time (I believe it may have been BaBs, but not certain), was that the pack is surgically attached to the spinal cord, and can therefore never be removed.

The Crab Spider attacks use specialized animations which animate the pack. If the pack is not there to be animated, this causes weird things to happen. Since changing builds does not change your costume, it would be possible for someone to create a Crab, switch builds to a normal Solder/Huntsman, go create a packless costume, then switch their build back to the crab, and not be wearing the pack.

While it sounds like it would be a simple matter of replacing the "back" slot when you switched builds, obviously, it's not that simple. If it were that simple, I am sure they would have done this long ago. Besides, I know how quickly the words "can't they just" make the devs see red.
