Quote:I think you must have misread something. I am not suggesting they change IOs to anything. I am supporting keeping it the way they have it now--let the IOs grey out and stop working. I was arguing AGAINST having them function as SOs.Quote:It's not the fact that some IOs increase more than one attribute that make this idea ineffective. That's easy, in fact. You just take the bonus of an SO and divide it. That's what those enhancements do anyway, take the total bonus of an IO at that level and divide it between two or three attributes. The problem though, is that the "just make em work like SOs" solution really only works for characters using IOs higher that are level 35 or higher. Below level 35, the bonus of an IO is lower than the bonus of an SO.

I can't believe they missed "Hatesmen" from Amazonian Earth.

Even if you own the IP rights yourself, and can prove it, it's still rather "iffy" on getting the name change reversed if it is clearly a name from another source. As soon as you create a character in City of Heroes, it is NC Soft, and NOT the player who owns the character, and any rights associated with the character.

It would be hard to do that right, considering the many IO's that enhance more than one attribute, but it would be something. My suggestion always was to just leave IO's as is and simply not allow slotting them. It'd IMO be just as effective or more so in getting money and less bug prone.)

Well, this is not just a meteor shower, it is a targeted attack. One would assume that anyone with the technology and power to do something like that would also either have the technology and power to do it so suddenly there was no time to react as one would with a typical meteor shower, or to mask the incoming meteors so they could not be tracked. If they didn't it wouldn't be a very effective surprise attack, now would it?

And why your fellow "Heroic" loyalists commit blatant acts of terrorism far worse than of the loyalist arcs. You want to support the resistance, that's fine. Just don't try to pretend it makes you a "hero". Many of the resistance members display far more blood lust than your average "villain".
-
And you still persist in the idiotic belief that heroes and resistance are the same thing, I see. So... go be a hero and blow up a hospital or set off a nuke in the middle of the square to kill off an entire zone of innocents. Very heroic of you.

Quote:This statement only goes to show how skewed your position is. You yourself said that the art work took more time and resources, but let's for just a moment assume that they put as much work into the mission revamps, shall we?Atlas and Mercy got a 50-50 resources split for the mission content revamp - but for the graphical updates, which take way longer to do, they split the resources in a more realistic way to reflect the population sizes of each faction.
This would mean that 50% of the resources went to mission revamps, and 50% to art revamps. Now the red side got half of those mission resources but none of the art resources. This would mean that the total resource division was 75% to Blue and 25% to Red. Again using YOUR numbers, how does this jive with a 60/40 split? -
Quote:According to your own posts a "fair" split would have been to devote 40% of the art resources to Villains, right?Just like the devs - which is why they spent over a year on the Atlas Park revamp - they put the most time and resources into the revamp that would be seen by the most players.
Atlas and Mercy got a 50-50 resources split for the mission content revamp - but for the graphical updates, which take way longer to do, they split the resources in a more realistic way to reflect the population sizes of each faction. -
No, I am being a realist. There has not been a single zone revamp redside since the redside was introduced in issue 6 and then the final zone was added in issue 7, raising the redside level cap from 40 to 50 (where the hero cap already was).
I would say what you sound like, but I don't care to be censored. -
Quote:That's BS public relations hype. They never have. They never will. Even I21 falls extremely short in this regards. And the devs still insist on givng us a even 50-50 split for all new content,
Atlas Park gets a complete overhaul.
Mercy Island gets a mission revamp.
The line about "distinct architectural style of the Rogue Isles" is just a BS excuse that they will continue to echo every time they revamp another Paragon City zone. The fact of the matter is that it just means that the tech used in the Rogue Isles will fall behind both Paragon City and Praetoria, giving one more reason not to even bother with the villain content at all. -
Quote:I am not saying that they shouldn't continue to develop blue side content, do zone revisions, etc. But they can not continue to completely ignore the Redside, as they have for the past 15 issues. 15 issues, not a single zone revamp. If that is how they plan to handle the redside, they would be better off just blowing the whole thing up, shutting it down, and be done with it.It's as valid a position as expecting the development team to somehow find a way of addressing the greater popularity of playing the good guys. At its roots that preference is not alterable by the game's content; it's just a function of human nature. It's statistical.

Firefly did get wrapped up with a made-for-TV (or may have been straight to DVD) movie called Serenity.
Sort of like how Farscape was wrapped up with the mini-series, The Peacekeeper Wars.
Still, I think Firefly had a lot of potential for more seasons between the intro and the wrap-up. They spent an entire season developing the characters and then had a single movie to wrap it all up.
If you are interested in seeing how it all ended for them, the movie is currently available on Netflix streaming. -
The funny thing about Double XP Weekend is that it is not the double xp that actually makes leveling up so fast. I was talking to someone in game and they were ecstatic that they managed to get a character from 1 to 50 in two days.
Hmm... 2 days under double xp... that would mean that if she were to do the same thing when it was not double xp, it would take her an entire FOUR days.
Except, as I said, it's not the XP that actually provide the majority of the increased leveling speed. Most of the speed increase comes from the fact that there are so many players on at all hours, all eager to team up with anyone and everyone they can get their hands on.
Part of what brings in the players for Double XP weekend is that it only happens twice a year. If it became a regular occurrence, the draw would be much lower. It goes from. "Double XP is next weekend. I better plan to spend a little (or lot) of extra time in game." to "Double XP is next weekend, but I dunno if I will be there or not. I may just wait until it rolls around again next month." -
Oh, you'll still have to put up with his boasting, just give it time. In 10 or 15 years this kid will be running for political office, using the picture from this article as part of his campaign, while a voice over talks about his bravery and extensive military experience.

At this point, I have pretty much given up ever seeing anything done to balance the content between the two sides. There doesn't seem to be enough interest on the part of the development team to put the time and effort in. In fact, if anything, I see a tendency to take the few benefits that Redside has and change blue side to give them the same benefits.
Case in point. on the blue side, there are 11 normal zones plus 9 hazard zones for a total of 20 zones. On the red side, there are 7 normal zones, and no hazard zones. This means blue side has nearly three times as many zones. One upon a time, this used to be balanced by the fact that to travel between these zones, you had to make multiple hops. For example. to get from Atlas Park to Talos, you had to take the train to Steel Canyon or Skyway, switch lines, and then take the train to Talos.
A few issues though, they connected together all the lines, so in most cases, you can get to any of the normal zones with a single hop. The only times you need to do more than one hop are if you are going to a hazard zone or to Peregrine Island. This completely removed any semblance of balance between the two sides.
Somehow it just makes sense that travel across a smaller area should be quicker. Somehow this logic seems to escape those who pleaded for the change as well as the developers who implemented it. -
Quote:They also had a variety of original sci-fi programming. Some of it better than others, but just off the top of my head...Well a long time ago SyFy was the channel of old canceled SciFi-ish/Fantasy series. But that was a long time ago.
Lexx (Didn't really care for this one, a bit too campy, but it was an original series )
Farscape
The Dresden Files
Stargate SG-1 (This one started on Showtime but moved to Sci-Fi for the last 5 seasons)
Stargate Atlantis (Was initially on Sci-Fi and The Movie Network, but the final few seasons were solely on Sci-Fi)
Now, 9 times out of 10, if you check the schedule for SyFy on a weekday, you are likely to be see 10 or so back-to-back episodes of Scare Tactics. What the......? -
This was discussed in another thread recently as well. Vigilantes and Rogues receive a stack of normal reward merits instead. The Hero/Villain merits are essentially a reward for remaining loyal to one side, which Vigilantes and Rogues are not. It is the trade off they make for being able to travel freely between red and blue zones. If they have an evenly comparable reward, there would be little or no reason for anyone to remain a pure hero or pure villain.

Quote:My biggest issue here is that they will, inevitably, be eventually updating all the blueside zones to take advantage of the Ultra Mode graphics. This is going to leave the redside zones outdated from a technological standpoint. It is going to be that, rather than the architectural style or the lighting that eventually becomes the death knell of the redside. As technology continues to improve, and everyone has systems which can run the current "Ultra Mode" without breaking a sweat, who is going to choose to look at zones which don't begin to take advantage of that technology?I can definitely see this. I'd rather see them add new contacts or SFs that use the space they already have. The redside zones have so many nooks and crannies that are never really used outside of one mission here or there, like the Crey HQ or the Sky Raiders water base. I'd love to see more content added that expanded these little sub-zones in the bigger zones.

Quote:I know there are more Hero Tip teams than Vigilante Tip teams, but that does not mean you have no choice but to run your tips solo. When I can't find a Vigilante Tip team for my Vigilante, I start one. I have NEVER failed to find enough people to create a full team when I broadcast that I am starting a Vigilante tip team.1st I cannot get my tips done easily with the group, I have to do them on my own while ev everyone else gets theirs done all at once during the fun of teaming. Give us at least half credit. IE for every 2 hero/villain tip completed we get credit for 1 vigilante/rogue tip. We are, after all, not that far away. We are a shade of grey, sharing many of the same philosophies but differing in a few key areas. Chances are I agree with some of what they are doing even if i would do it differently.
As for getting Vigilante credit (even half credit) for doing Hero Tips with a team, why? If you are doing Hero Tips, alone or with a team, you are getting Hero Alignment. Just as they get Vigilante Alignment for running yours. As for them being, basically the same, why then, as a Hero Morality mission are you specifically trying to arrest Doc Quantum (a VIGILANTE, not a VILLAIN). Why are there MULTIPLE Hero Alignment missions that have you going after Longbow officers who have turned Vigilante? Truth of the matter is, the pure heroes don't view Vigilantes much better than they do Villains. Truth be known, they probably think slightly better of Rogues who are least, in their eyes, trying to move in the right direction. -
Not to burst your bubble, but I have yet to hear any redname make a single statement that would indicate to me there will ever be zone revamps redside. To the contrary, when discussing the Atlas Park/Mercy Island zone and mission revamps in I21, War Witch pretty much indicated that they specifically chose not to revamp the look of Mercy Island because the Rogue Isles has a distinct style that they did not want to change.

We already know that if you are a non-VIP who has neither unlocked Inventions nor purchased a License for them, that recipes will not drop. Since the PvP IOs are some of the most sought after in the game, it would be illogical to assume they said, "Okay. We aren't gonna let you have any salvage or any recipes except these recipes right here which are currently the most desirable."

If they are using Kerberos to authenticate between the forums and the authentication server, it could be something as simple as the clocks on the two systems being too out of sync. It doesn't take much.
Still, once the forum has authenticated you and set up the session, this shouldn't be a factor. Kerberos issues should only show up during the authentication process itself (when you are logging in). -
I actually suggested this (again) recently in another thread talking about desirable QoL improvements. I even suggested a possible mechanic for its implementation.
The idea is that if an sg invite was sent to a GLOBAL name instead of a local name, instead of sending the pop-up window, it would generate a Certificate or Voucher to send to the person's email. They could then claim this Certificate or Voucher via the email system.
This has been requested so many times by so many people I find it hard to believe that the folks at Paragon Studios are well aware of the desire. Usually, if there is some technical reason why a feature can't be implemented (or would take considerable time), a red name will come and explain that. Since that hasn't happened (to my knowledge) with this particular feature request, I assume this on the list of things that they have just decided they do not want to do.
A likely reason for this is the difference in the average retention rate of someone who primarily plays alone vs the average retention rate of someone who primarily plays with others. While they don't want to make it impossible for you to have a personal SG and base, they don't want to make it too easy either. Still, it's a much easier task in CoH than it is in some other MMOs. In the MMO I worked with several years ago, if you set up a guild, and the membership fell below a certain point for more than a few days, the guild was automatically disbanded. Each account was allowed 5 characters slots, and the minimum number in a guild was 10 members. These magic numbers meant you needed at least 2 people (or two accounts at least) using all of their character slots in order to keep the guild going.
Still, CoH has made strides to make interaction between your alts a lot easier over the past year. Issue 18 gave us the ability to send our alts inf and items cross server and even cross alignment, so who knows if they may some day remove the final barrier and let us have our offline or mail based SG invites.
