Gratz on the promotion and the raise! Good to hear that stuff is still happening for some people in this economy.

The really funny thing (funny weird, not funny ha ha) about that is EVERYONE that actually does an Air Guitar gets laughed out of the picture. I mean really, it just looks foolish. And they now want an "Air Guitar Emote" so they can get virtually laughed at too?

No thanks. Not even close to interested. -
Not a chance. I bought everything else you people have tried to sell me but, I draw the line here. This "Emote Pack" is garbage and I want nothing to do with it. Further, I am now looking for another game to enjoy spending my time on, this one seems to be going down a road I am not willing to pay for.

Quote:I'm not sure anyone ever actually said it would be "harmful to the game" to give everyone the same benefits that a Veterans get at a certain point for playing the game. I think what is mostly being said by the people like me is that we veterans do appreciate being recognized for supporting this game for as long as we have. In my case, six years. The recognition comes in the form of these Vet Rewards, or minor benefits. As for your proposal of letting people pay in advance for the benefits now . . . I have no problem with that myself. If someone want to "pay ahead" their account by that long I see no problem with it and I wouldn't even mind if they got some form of discount for doing so.Random thought, and sorry if somebody has mentioned this before.
Would it be acceptable to you, if the rewards were unlocked simpley buy the amount of game time needed to unlock the reward, instead of having to play through the game time?
Say in order to get Trench coat you simply had to pay for 3 months of game time, and to get City traveler you had to pay for 60 months of game time?
That way any if a brand new player wanted to shell out $900 and get super speed at level 6 they could? Or do you believe that would still be harmful for the game?
Not saying its going to happen or never will, just curious on your thoughts.
Now, with that being said, I just don't see it happening. First off, the company would be contractually locked into running the game for at least as long as they sold access for, which I doubt they would be willing to do. Second, the way Veteran Rewards are calculated would have to be changed (again). And Third, I just don't think very many people would be willing to do it. The benefits can be nice and all, but not many would pay several years in advance in order to get their travel power at level six and then effectively not get any rewards for a LONG time. Which would have a major affect on the first and second parts of my argument.
Who knows though, Paragon Studios has surprised us before. -
Good point except the "article" was written prior to the posting on the CoX website. Still, it wouldn't hurt for Paragon to go back and fix their own site though.

Quote:As a Veteran of six years I can strongly relate to this post. On top of that I have worked in two different industries that relies on the repeat customers more than the new ones, so I can understand your point of view very well. Good post, well written. As someone who's business relies on recurring subscriptions I can tell you the people that started with your business and stayed throughout are the most cherished people in the world! Some purchased lifetime memberships. NCSoft offered that and it helped them greatly at the beginning. I did not. Which means I've paid the fee every month for over 6 years straight. I'm not going to do the math* but that is an ENORMOUS amount of money to get from one customer. If you're in business, people like that are your best friends. I have no complaints. I stayed with the game because they have consistently entertained me. They keep adding stuff that makes me want to continue. But it also means heaping love on such people is not only nice, it's demanded by common sense.
I get the idea that they may be struggling to come up with new rewards. I think it may be time to ask the community what they think a great vet reward would be. Possibly have people send an email with ideas. If it's an open forum an idea that is unwise might get extremely popular and people could get upset if it doesn't happen. So just solicit ideas directly to a special email.
To put my money where my mouth is, which I'm obviously willing to do...
Who doesn't LOVE selecting their permanent/temporary powers? Before you force us to take Ghost Slaying axe, lets add a new collection of powers to choose from. While looking at the game's loading screen for the millionth time I noticed Statesman's utility belt. What if you could choose one of maybe four items from his belt if you start a hero... one from Recluse's if a villain and one from Cole's for praetorian. Each set would do the same basic stuff but with a slightly different flavor. Powers may include:
1) A life sign detector. Like what you see when only 3 targets are left on the map, but you can turn it on whenever, showing all mobs. Recharge one hour.
2) Teammate recall beacon. Like assemble team but for one team mate or pet. Recharges in 5 minutes. Pet pathing has improved greatly but they still get stuck. It's infuriating to have to take tp friend for what is a glitch in the game. (or respawn). Plus it would also just be nice to have for teams. Recharge 5 minutes.
3) Hologram Generator. Makes a copy of your character with the same threat level. Basically halving the number of attacks coming your way. Lasts 5 minutes. Recharge 2 hours.
4) "Drop em!" With the authority vested in me by "X". Spawns in the area 'holster' all weapons (attacks) except brawl. Takes them 30 seconds to realize they don't need to drop their weapons just because an authority figure told them to! (heh heh) Physical item could be a badge. Recharge 1 hour.
Just some ideas. I'm sure their are a million excellent reasons for not making each of those powers available. But I got you thinking didn't I? Not much development work should also be kept in mind. And PvP... make them not work in that. I don't care. I don't do PvP.
So... in short. Great Vet rewards are absolutely necessary. Get some great ideas from the community. *And FINE, I did the math. 75 times $15 is $1125. Not to mention the second account I started about a year and half in. Lot's of money. No regrets. Purchased every add on as well. I am a "Super Customer". Deny me nothing!!! -
Quote:Try playing from Hawaii, sure we have nice beaches here, but that doesn't translate to this game very well. We are 2 hours behind even the west coasters yet still in the USA, so we hardly ever get to attend crap. Then there is the fact that there will NEVER be a Convention here they feel is important enough to attend. Add the fact that on more than one occasion a USA contest has specifically forbidden entrants from Hawaii (and Alaska if I remember right). What you have left is a strong feeling of neglect. Then you grow up and get over it.Oh I'm not complaining. Like I said I'm mildly annoyed that I didn't get a chance at all the costume codes but whatever. I just realized that no west coaster who worked a 9 to 5 job would be able to attend this event. And it reminded me of all the threads I've seen where the east coasters would complain about no events being available to them. Just thought I would point out to those reading that where as we may have the advantage in live events they have the advantage in online events.
And incidentally going to a convention is no longer a guarantee of a code. I went to PAX this year just like I do every year but because I wasn't able to make it to the offsite meet the devs party I didn't get a code. The non convention event was the only place they gave them out. At least I think it was though they may have given them out at the panel as well which I also missed.
I did get a stuffed pig in a can of beans though. And I have absolutely no idea of it's significance. But hey, it's a stuffed pig in a can of beans and how can you possibly beat that?
EDIT: Sorry, this was rude and I am leaving it up so anyone who has read it can see my apology. -
Quote:OK, if you want to get down to definitions:First... it's a character, not a toon. Toons are on television.
Second... there is no such thing as a character that sucks (unless you TRY to make it suck taking as many Travel Powers as you can). All characters are viable in their own right and have mechanics you can leverage to have fun. Or, have a good concept, that helps too.
toon - short for cartoon - an animated show on television would be the best definition without resorting to a dictionary, I think. Also sometimes used to describe specific characters in this game from what I have seen and appropriate considering what the "characters" look like in CoX.
character - a specific "person" in a show/story/game.
The best name for our "characters/toons" might be avatar, since so many of us invest so much time and effort into them, not to mention a certain amount of emotion. In many cases, our character/toon is a representation of our virtual selves of the moment.
All things considered, I would say any name fits if other people can figure out what you mean and only personal preference dictates what someone uses to describe their toon (my preference). I will say that though that this is a really silly argument all around. -
Turgenev, I'm still not so sure your method would work so well. You allow people to "pick the rewards within their year" but either way they would pick the "best powers" in their opinions first and leave the "junk" for last, then complain about only having the junk left. I could be wrong, but that is the way I see it going down.
To be honest, it is probably a moot argument though. I'm not sure how easy the coding for this type of arrangement would be and with Paragon Studios now charging for Emotes . . . well, let's just say this six year Veteran is not in the mood to pay for this kind of change and leave it at that. -
Funny, I was just thinking that even if it was free I wouldn't want it. Your welcome to try though.
-
Good luck to those people that like this kind of thing. As for me, I have better ways to waste my time than standing around Pocket D using lame emotes (IMO I will admit).
-
Woot! 1st post after a Red Name! Honestly though, I think maybe you guys picked the wrong partners for this contest, a week after being announced only one of them has the contest up and running?

Quote:They are talking about the Lvl 50+ content so people can kep playing their toons even after they hit Level 50, without having to Mal/Ex down to a lower level and play on lower level teams.I know this is slightly off topic, and I'm guessing many people have already asked this, or someone's going to bash me for my lack of knowledge, but may I asked what this "End game content" that I keep hearing about, means? I'm hoping it doesn't mean the end of CoH itself...
That's what made me bring it up, plus it was on my mind for awhile. Sorry if this is too out of place. -
I'm trying to figure out that whole summary by Newsrama. I know the vagueness was not the fault of the "author", but the incredibly bad grammar? I mean, I know I see good reporters "clean-up" what was said without changing what was said all the time, so what happened here? I guess it was either a bad reporter or done on purpose, which really would throw me, not to mention speak very badly for Newsrama.
Also does it really surprise anyone that the the tendency has been toward villains going to hero? I personally like CoV much better than CoH, but even I have to admit that the content CoH side is at least two to three times greater than CoV, and has been since the very beginning. Pretty much a no brainer. -
I think everyone might be overlooking one thing. Play style. A shield scrapper is awesome for defense and all and a good overall toon, but does better (IMO) solo than on a team. On the other hand a well built Widow works good overall, but is better on a team than solo. Of course, anyone can change my generalities but tweaking the build, but I think overall, this stands pretty well.
So what is the best new toon for you to make? I don't know, what is your play style? Give me some more info and I might be able to recommend something better. -
Quote:So you think that only tanks and brutes should be able to PvP? I seem to remember that basically being the case before the PvP changes in Issue 13 and PvP was just as boring back then for the average player as it seems to be now. I'll be honest, I don't know what the fix is, but going back to only tanks/brutes being worth anything in PvP is not it.Listen please and listen carefully. Tanks should by ALL RIGHTS be the hardest dudes to kill in PvP. It should be so intense that it takes at least 3 non brute like vill to bring him down. Now of course this better be a bad *** Tank and yes same for Butes. A Brute fighting a tank should actually DRAW a crowd. As it stands now Tanks and brutes are made fun of and mostly ignored. And I am SURE u have seen that NO ONE playes Tanks in PvP. Guess what? Theres a damn good reason. Thnk long and hard on this and tell me what you think you guys can do to improve on what roles Tanks and Brutes play in this game thank you.

Quote:The piercing sound just made it immpossible for me to listen. I hope other people can get a better viewing than I did. Here you all are.
YouTube video of the entire PAX PRIME Panel. Please forgive the poor sound quality. My camera is not the best.
The Q&A session on Parts 4 and 5 is currently uploading and will be available soon. -
Quote:The selfish side of me screams YESSSSSSS! But the realistic side of me glumly says no. Vet Rewards are meant to be minor trinkets that do not unbalance the game but still give a long time player a little something extra (mission transporter). I have always argued against costume pieces being a part of this system, though I have no problem with them being unlocked by earning certain badges, and as for an AT just for Vets? I doubt that would ever happen and this 6 year player will fight against that kind of thing. that would cause way to many disgruntled players.I think that the veteran rewards should become more awesome as time goes on, and the months go on.
For example, would a 75 month veteran really need that bonus? :/
Bring more costume elite stuff into the equation.. =3.
Or maybe make an entire archtype only for veteran reward.
EDIT: A Veteran AT at one year MAY be workable though I guess. I would still fight it though. -
Actually, parts of Issue 17 (Ultra Mode for example) and Issue 19 (technically the Incarnate initial slot was supposed to be part of GR I think) were supposed to be release in Issue 18. They released Ultra Mode early (probably to work on video bugs) and postponed the Incarnates system to more thoroughly work on it (or some such).
-
Quote:Actually, we don't how this is going to work at all yet. They may be giving extra slots and they may not. These powers may all be given at level 1 or spread out over levels 1 - 20. It's is just too early to really speculate at this point. Maybe when the Video of that PAX board gets put on youtube we will know more or maybe not.My only problem with inherent fitness is that we won't get any extra slots for the powers that we have to take in their place, so they will end up being unused dummy powers. Incarnate levels has a *chance* to fix this. I just think that dispersing the enhancement slots we have is already hard enough without adding even more powers to the mix.
-
Quote:No, unfortunately alls we have right now is speculation on how it will work.Someone told me in-game about the fitness pool becoming inherent. Does anyone know how effective stamina and health will be once this comes online? Part of me is excited about this and part of me is worried that it will screw up alot of my builds as I like slotting health with the 3 procs (miracle, numi's, and panacea).
-
But if it is an "Inherent Power" it feels so much more Super! At least that would be my reasoning.
-
Quote:I have a feeling that the reason people keep responding to you is the fact that most of your posts on this thread contain some sort of attack for other players (see the highlighted and underlined text above for example). We welcome input, even when we don't agree with it, but no one likes being attacked. The other part is you attack other peoples points of view and don't even bother to at least give a good reasoning why. I don't need numbers but, a well reasoned argument would be nice.I try to stop talking about this, yet you keep pulling me back in. Sorry, I don't like the changes... get over it? Should I have posted a bunch about it?.... no. Should I have woke up drunk and thought this was stupid? Maybe. Stop quoting me, it won't change my mind, and it won't help others think I know what I'm talking about.
Also restraining myself from mentioning your pvp builds.
As for my personal belief on the "Inherent Fitness" pool? Well, I'm on the fence. I like the idea, but without addition slots I now have three more powers and no extra slots for them. That with my Vet travel at level six means a total of 4 powers with no extra slots. I don't purposely do the whole min/max thing, but now I am being almost forced into it if I want to keep a relevant toon. At the same time, it may actually allow people to diversify the powers they pick for their toons as well.
Then comes the problem of when we will get these Inherent powers? If we get them at the same time that they would normally become unlockable, then that doesn't help my level 15 toon who is gasping for endurance at the end of every fight unless he is heavily slotted for endurance.
It is my supreme hope that they start giving three slots for powers at a lower level when they implement this change. That would make these three (or four for veterans) extra powers much more worthwhile.
Anyways, this is one of the times I will have to wait and see how it goes. -
Quote:I ran into something similar. Not thrity mobs, but two huge spawns of mobs. They died fast enough (weaker then their levels suggested) but there was a lot of them. This needs to be looked at again.
I just started this mission. It is true that the ambush wasn't all lumped into one giant army at the end. It was however, mostly lumped into one giant army at the beginning.
I was barely half way through the first wave, when three more waves showed up. I died and went to the hospital. When I came back and looked around while in hide (playing a Stalker), right near the entrance were the other 30 or so mobs from the ambush.
Thankfully, I was able to completely bypass them after that. However, imagine my shock and dismay when I reached the back end of the map and yet more ambushes spawned. I died yet again, thanks to being overwhelmed by 20 or so mobs at a single time.
