  1. So, last night I got on and was in a mish to take out Marauder. In this mish, I came face to face for the first time with the giant War Walkers. Intimidating as they are, I was almost certain these guys would have some kind of badge being that almost every other type of NPC has a "kill this amount" type badge.

To my surprise, I could not find anything regarding badges on War Walkers. Maybe because these guys are so new and the dev's just haven't got around to implementing any type of badge yet, who knows? Also, because it seems War Walkers are not your average NPC as they don't proliferate in large groups which would make them seem somewhat of a more rare NPC, you would think creating a badge for them would make sense here? Now, I may be wrong. Maybe I misread my badge completion list in the drop down menu in game, but I don't think so. So lets add a War Walker badge and let the fun begin!

  2. I am in the process of tweaking my MM after moving her Hero side. I want to respec her being that it is getting silly that my Upgrade and Equip take sooo much end that I need to find a way to best slot those. When using those both one after the other, your end will drop down to almost zero. Normally, I would only have those one slotted with a increase attack rate or reduce end cost enhancement being as I thought that using anymore slots on these wouldn't be too practical. My thinking has changed now so I need some suggestions if I should half slot (3 slots) or fully slot (6 slot) them with end to help out on these powers. I do have Stamina fully slotted.

Edit due to being up for over 30 hours due to finals.
That thing looks pretty cool lookin. Too bad that they don't make it anymore. It would be cool to get something like this as an extension of my key board, meaning separate from my keyboard and only used for gaming. It would either plug into another USB port or be wireless. I guess I'm somewhat old fashioned being that I like to use buttons for the majority of my functions. It does get silly though with my Warshade and MM's having so many powers and knowing how to slot them and create key board functions for each. I did a little reading up in paragonwiki about binds and macros but never felt comfortable yet on how to actually set those up.

I guess in saying "why" people would use macros or binds would be to maybe "free-up" more available slots or more available buttons and/or keys, would that be a correct assumption?
  4. Yeah, those round key board thingy's look kind of hokey. Not really practical in regular keyboard use. When I want to type, then I would have to use my regular key board. That would be difficult when sending tells and chats back and forth between teammates if I had to use a round key board. That razor kind of caught my eye though.
  5. Yeah, I was able to put beanbag type deal underneath my keyboard so it props up better. It actually works pretty good..heh..heh. Anyways, my keyboard I currently have is imaged below.

Yeah, I know, it's a Gateway. Not even sure if they are still in business..heh. This is a wireless keyboard. I really have no complaints with it but as I mentioned above, the way I play CoX is by moving my keyboard over to the left hand side of my desk. I have my Mouse on the right side. I will normally use the Navigation keys, Directional keys and the Numberic keypad area. If I need to venture outside this area, I will normally use the Function keys at the top.

When I first start playing CoX, they had this guide in their instruction manual that had you using the W, A, S, D keys for navigation and the space bar as jump. As a right handed person, I found this very awkward and cumbersome. I think the issue here is most key boards are set-up for typing, not pure gaming. As I also mentioned above, I like to use my keys for each power function. The reality is that I will eventually need to incorporate more macro's with some of my toons, MM's for example, that may require more slots for powers.

So, with that being said, I've enclosed a couple of images that I found on the web under "gaming keyboards". I know these "round" keyboards are not practical for typing but for gaming purposes, I wanted to get your guys opinion on these two based on my playing style.

  6. So this morning my wireless keyboard that came with my Gateway system had the back little supports break off. Now, my keyboard sits flat which I will not tolerate. The truth is, I am probably somewhat happy as I was intending to upgrade my keyboard for awhile. Now, this is my perfect excuse to do so...heh..heh.

In normal gaming, I don't use a lot of macro's. I like to distribute my powers and have a designated key for each one. I know, that sounds insane and this of course has become an issue with my MM's being that they require so many slots for powers. I know, I know, I should start using macro's to help out but I guess I am still unclear or don't know the best way to set-up macro's? For those that use macro's, please feel free to send me a few links on where and how to set these up. The how part is what I am more lost at.

Now, back to my original post. I am right handed so in gaming, I have my keyboard off to my left hand side with my mouse on the right. I normally designate my 10 keys as my 1-10 keys (tray 1) powers and the arrow keys as directional. Tray 2 will normally take the keys next to my 10 keys, Home key, End key etc. The tricky part is when I get to my third Tray. I have to designate more buttons thus I need to probably go with some of the "F" keys on the very top of the key board. I went to google and typed in images and got some very funky looking keyboards. I'm not looking to drop a lot of money on one of these, but if I find something I like I may pull the trigger on it. Because as you MMO'ers know, having the best equipment is a necessity to getting the most enjoyment out of PC gaming.
  7. So has anyone noticed that since we have been able to transfer influence between toons that the number of those ridiculous offers to grant oodles of influence for a price have since dwindled? There was a point prior to being able to transfer, that I just disabled my email options on all my toons because I was getting hit with so many of those ridiculous offers.

So good bye and good riddance to the unwanted solicitors. May you take your influence transferring ways to another MMO game.

3: I've quit on a total of 1 TF ever and it was because my connection failed. I've failed others where the team has disbanded but that just happens sometimes. I'm with you on this totally.

Oh.. and welcome to the game.
    1. I would agree here. I've been invited to some teams where the leader just sits and doesn't let anyone know what they are doing, lfm or what? Also, I've been playing long enough to know good teams from bad teams. Good teams usually have a good leader who already has a few missions slated. A good team will normally have a Tank or two to draw aggro, with a nice balance of healers, controllers, melee's and ranged toons. A good team is one that makes you want to keep playing and will prompt you to maybe ask to add others to your friends list being that everyone worked so well together.

Conversely, bad teams are just that, bad!. Nine times out of ten I will usually do the "gtg" or "sorry guys, dinner time". But, if the team is really bad, I'm DTR, or Down The Road! without a goodbye. If I don't want someone to see me sign off, I'll hide behind something and sign out...heh...heh. . Then, there will always be this mystery if I was DC'ed or did I leave on my own doing?...LOL!!! I just can't sign back on with that toon for awhile until the dust settles though.

    2. See number 1.

    3. I will seldom, if ever, quit a TF or Trial. I know going in that this will either be a long haul or a short haul but overall, it will be awhile before I can break. I have got DC'ed before on TF but the nice thing is you can come back and will still be on the TF even if everyone disbands. I was once on this one TF and I got DC'ed big time, it took me about 20 minutes to get back on. When I did, I was the only one on the TF. It was the TF or Trail close to the Hive in Eden where you go through these enormous caves to take out the Devouring Earth. I think it was called the Eden Trail? So, I just cruised around the big caverns all by myself...heh..heh. Needless to say, I couldn't do any real damage, but it was fun. I have not encountered too many times that someone has left the TF without a true DC. When it does happen, I have to wonder "why" they even joined the TF or Trail in the first place because most of us should know the time frame that these will take. I will give the benefit of the doubt to those who do have a legitimate issue to leave though.

    Merge ouroborus

I originally submitted this suggestion about a month ago but received zero responses to it so, I thought I'd throw it in here to see if it makes more sense to have a merged zone in relation to my question.

Since GR had gone live, I have ran into this several times while in transition in my alignment stage from going hero to villain or vice versa. I am not sure about you guys but I am so used at using my Ouroboros TP to "shortcut" from point A to B. When in the alignment stage (meaning, you are NOT fully a villain or hero yet but are rogue or vigilante). If you "accidentally" use Ouroboros, it will give you your old zones. If you were using Ouroboros to shortcut your way to a Tip mission like me, you will need to go about the roundabout way to Pocket D and access the correct zone there OR you will hopefully remember NOT to use the Ouroboros while in this transition alignment stage.

The funny thing is, we are given a warning when entering through Pocket D, why not have some kind of disclaimer saying if you use Ouroboros TP that you will be given your old zones and will need to access Pocket D in order to get to the right zone for your Tip missions? My suggestions is to have the disclaimer show for those who are in the alignment state and will not pop up a disclaimer once you have completed the full alignment being that now you can access your full aligned zones via Ouroboros.

I know, I know, I should be more aware of what alignment my toon is at or I should just take the train (blue side) or ferry (red side) to get to my tip missions while in the alignment stage. The way I look at it, we do and use things in this game so many times it becomes habit forming and some habits are hard to un-break like using the Ouroboros TP to shortcut travel to missions. A simple disclaimer (dosen't have to be wordy like the current warnings), something to keep you from using the Ouroboros TP so you don't have to re-route yourself back to Pocket D in order to get to the right zones.

With that being said, having a merged zone would eliminate the need for this warning to be added.

  11. My original computer had a wireless mouse and as soon as I picked up CoX last Jan. 09' I ordered a new mouse with a USB cord through New Egg, which sometimes has some great deals.

I got a: Logitech G5 2-Tone 7 Buttons 1 X Wheel USB Laser 2000 pdi Mouse - $50 Bucks. When this thing came with little weights to put in your mouse for the best feel, I knew I had something special! . For those who don't like the rapid speed, you can slow down your mouse movement with the buttons on top. I have no complaints on this what-so-ever and they look ohhh sooo cool looking!

    Cant log in

Hmmmm, and I thought it was just me... Yeah, I tried to log in this morn after 6AM PST before work and could not get on. I will alway check coh.com for server status and I know that normally Thursday mornings the servers will be down for maintenance and are usually back up after 6AM PST, but the fact that the server status didn't show that anything was down was unusual to say the least.

Since the 10 and under levels all come with an Acc bonus, I will say my success rate with Sands is probably something like 4/5 which I consider pretty damn good especially as I usually try to position myself to get the max benefit of the cone, usually snaring 2 or 3 guys at once...suppose that may contribute to my possibly inflated view of the to hit success rate. Incidentally, my best Sands hit was 5 critters at once which I believe is the power's max(?). Haven't checked the long info on it in a looooooong time.
Oh no, when I first had access to Sands of Mu via my 12 Month Vet Rewards, I took it and started using it like a Drunken Sailor. Now, I mostly use it for my level 45 fire/fire Scrapper after they utilized all of their other melee combos. I will always get it in the early stages of new toons until they can develop more damaging powers.

My biggest bug a boo with this power, as my main post stated, was the excess amount of "whiffs" and "misses" you get when using this power. Landing more hits was crucial to when I use this power and knowing how to obtain a better "chances to hit" ratio or a "better accuracy" ratio was my main concern for this power.
  14. Fusion_7

    Sands of Mu

Hmmmm, after reading some of these posts on the Sands of Mu, maybe they should change the name to the Sands of Poo....lol.

After thinking about it further, on those whiffs, that darn animation is soooo long (seems like it lasts 5 seconds, which is a lifetime in a MMO game), that you become somewhat vulnerable during those many whiffs that Sands of Poo will give you. I guess the only real benefit for me is getting this in the early stages of my toons life and never having to rely on Brawl again, which should be burned, crushed and crumpled out of existence forever as the most useless power!..lol.

    Sands of Mu

Awhile ago when I hit my 12 month vet badge, I picked up Sands of Mu for a few of my toons and added it to any new toons as a bonus power until they established more potent powers in the later levels. I would have gone the Ghost Slaying Axe route but based on what people said, the Sands of Mu was much more versatile in fighting different kinds of foes. I don't use Sands of Mu for much for my ranged toons, only on occasions. For my level 45 fire/fire Scrapper though, I try to make Sands of Mu a little part of each battle in missions.

The thing that I am noticing or maybe just imagining is, it seems that Sands of Mu has a lot of punches that will miss their mark, meaning, you just plain miss your target altogether. Not sure what the hit ratio numbers are for Sands of Mu? It's a power you cannot slot. So other than popping some yellows or maybe getting the best IO power sets for accuracy, is there anything else that I need to do to land better hits with this or do I just need to accept this power "as is" and know it will miss more so than your average melee attack?

Hmmm, now that I think about it, that animation is kinda weird. I especially like it when I go through all that wonderful "bend down and squat" animation and lay a big miss on my foe. Then I have to wait for the power to re-charge back up and then go at it again...lol.
  17. Group Flight. Oh yeah, maybe back in the inaugural year of 2004 from the inception of CoH when all the programmers, developers and creative types are all going over the final pieces before CoH became live. It was probably late on a Friday afternoon. Some new guy sitting at the back of the table said "Hey, wouldn't it be neat if we could get Group Flight? You can endow your nearby teammates with flight and let your friends fall if you run out of endurance or if they travel too far away from you. Granted, your travel speed is slower than Fly and flying allies will suffer from reduced accuracy and you must be at least level 20 and have two other flight powers before selecting Group Fly, but wouldn't that be just great?"

I kind of compare this to maybe being in the woods, you got some mosquitos flying around buzzing your ears. Yes, you can tolerate them but they are annoying to say the least. So, you spray some Off on them to kill them off. Maybe if we get a can of Off we can spray the NPC's that are bouncing off the walls...lol.
  21. This is just an observation that I have wanted to say something about for some time. In some missions where you might need to disarm some bombs or maybe rescue some hostages or any other type of chaotic situation that may arise, we get NPC's running around haphazardly, bouncing off walls, running into each other. It seems that in some, not all, of these type of chaotic missions, we will get an "overabundance" of these NPC's running around. Now, when I say "overabundance" I don't mean just a few, but as you can see by the image below, I mean "overabundance". When navigating around in these type of missions, it can become almost somewhat silly with the amount of these "extra" NPC's bouncing around and off of you while you are trying to complete the mission objectives.

So, what I am suggesting is to just "tone it down" a bit on the amount of NPC's running around in these type of missions. Maybe cut the numbers in half. If they have 40 NPC's in an office, cut that in half down to 20. I think as most intelligent MMO gamers go, we know what chaos looks like. I don't think we need an extra abundance of NPC's to remind us of this...lol.

  22. I have to agree here. As a Graphic Designer, I see and work with type all day long. Those CoX chat bubbles are just too blase and I think need to be revamped to show a more "comic book'ish" feel to them. For a game that likes to delve into a individualistic approach for our characters, the dev's I think also need to help us individualize our chat bubbles rather then just being able to change the color of the bubble or the color of the font.

    Alignment Powers

For the past couple of weeks, I have been slowly migrating some of my toons from Hero to Villain and vice versa. So far, I have two toons that I have fully integrated to Hero and Villain. The thing I need to find more about is these Alignment Powers you get if you stay within that alignment for a period of time. Based on what paragonwiki states, they have this "count down" until the power becomes active.

What I am curious to know is out of these four:
    Call to Justice
    Duplicity
    Fear incarnate
    Frenzy

Which ones do you guys find the best in either team play or solo play? Are these "click" powers or "toggle" powers? My thinking is they are "click" powers since paragonwiki doesn't say anything about toggles on these. Does anyone have their favorites based on what these powers do? Thanks.

Names can also be great. It all depends on the concept.
I'd think exploring further to define that specific character is a better approach (Just my opinion though) than trying to latch on to a common word that is already taken. Felicia Phoenix, Luminous Phoenix, Phoenix Forever, Phoenix Phil... Red Phoenix, Gold Phoenix, etc.
Yes, I have done that, as you can see by my signature toons below. I originally wanted Chimera for my Warshade. Chimera "a fire-breathing female monster with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail." I kind of liked that being that with Warshades you had the squid and the Rino. Of course it was taken so I added "Mist" after it for Chimera Mist. In my bios, I will also give a brief description towards the end telling how my hero or villain got their name.

Another example was Athena, "the patron goddess of Athens, worshiped as the goddess of wisdom, handicrafts, and warfare. She is often allegorized into a personification of wisdom." Of course we know that was taken. So, I added Zena infront and got Zena Athena. Nice huh? Yeah I know, it seems I may come across as somewhat proud any maybe tooting my own horn in how I created my toons names. Well, I am proud of the time and effort it took to put together these names and so should anyone else who takes the time to do this. So basically my naming went something like this:

Wanted Fusion opted for Fusion 7 (Blaster)
Wanted Dark Raven opted for Dark Braven (Controller)
Wanted Chimera opted for Chimera Mist(Warshade)
Wanted Ambrosia opted for Zambrosia (Night Widow)
Wanted Athena opted for Zena Athena (Blaster)
Wanted Brimo opted for Brimoriota (MM)
Wanted Fission opted for Fission 8 (Corruptor)
Wanted Phoenix opted for Fhenix (Controller)
Wanted Catalina opted for Cattalina (Stalker)
Wanted Demonica opted for Demmonica (Demon Summoning MM)
Wanted Trixie opted for Strixie (Duel Pistol Blaster)
Wanted Dominitra opted for Domenitra (Dominator)

All my toons are women. You may notice that the "a" at then end of some of their names to help "feminize" them. Each toon's bio corresponds with how they got their names. I guess the reason I am so adamant about this is anytime I see something in these posts that says there are either not enough names to go around or they should let people share names, I have to jump in.
I would say though and agree with some that if someone canceled their account and it sits for a period of time, that their toons names should be fair game. I am not sure this is the case now? In reading the rules, I don't think anything is ever deleted from the server if you canceled your account, not sure?

I think I only have two toons that have numbers "with" their names but not integrated within their names. For Gemlin I probably would have gone the "e" route. "e" can sound like an "i". So if Gremlin is taken, I would have tried Gremlen with an "e" first. It still sounds that same when you say it. If that was taken, then maybe I would try a play on the word Gremlin. If female, Gremliana or Gremliotta for example. For Males, Gremlock or Gremland or something that sounds masculine.

The thinking here is when and if you change out a letter, make sure if read it will still sound like what you intended it to sound like. Case in point, Phoenix sounds like Fhenix. Domenitra sounds like Dominitra. I would never mix numbers with letters as in your example Grem1in using the "1" to substitute an "l". I see this all the time and this kind of tells me that maybe the OP just gave-up on trying to come-up with a name. Yeah, it may take a bit of thinking sometimes, but if and when you can come up with a good name, it's yours and no one else has it or can take it away. And "that" is what makes the individuality of this game work so well.
