Haha. I'm pretty sure you're running around with a souped up Fire/Regen and Dark/Shield scrapper that would take my entire combined fortune in order to replicate them (actually, I might not have enough).

I will however donate 1 inf so you can buy the world's smallest violin and console yourself.

What a "budget" fire/shield would look like. No LoTGs, no purples. It would still require a full Obliteration set to cap melee, and there are plenty of expensive things in there such as the Blessing of the Zephyr -kb IOs, some of the Gaussians, Touch of Deaths and Performance Shifter pieces.

This isn't a dream build. The OP *can* afford everything he's listed. I have several billion and can afford to outfit mine fairly comparably. I think a lot of the scrapper forum regulars are equally as wealthy.

There's been plenty of "budget" and more reasonable fire/shield builds posted. They have less recharge, less end recovery/regen, but are usually soft capped and will perform pretty well. However, even a "budget" version will be pretty expensive, especially if you go with LoTGs.
  4. There are now 2 level 18 Pulzering Fisticuff Acc/Dmg on the market. One is mine. The other belongs to someone else.

Specifically why I think that :

    Survivability
    - low resistances
    - low regen
    - lacks OwtS
    - lacks Aid Self
    - DDR isn't capped

Having some of these flaws in a build isn't so bad, but all of them, on a high end build ?... Basically, this build has barely more than the softcap. Ok, some DDR, good max HP, and some resistances, but it's far from the performance a Shield build can attain.

    Accuracy
    - no tohit outside of BU
    - even with set bonuses, not enough accuracy on any attack to have a 95% hit rate on +4s.

    Endurance
    - no endurance management power
    - low endurance reduction on high endurance powers
What I mean by that is with that build, if you turned off Tough and only used FSC and Fireball, NO other attack of any kind... You'd still lose 0.2 end per second. Add any ST attack and the loss becomes tremendous. [Edit : yeah, my bad, not actually true, you'd gain ~0.2 end per second using only FSC and FB (I forgot to consider the perf shifter and panacea proc). Adding Shield Charge or ST attacks would be enough to start losing end, though.]

Now if you don't care about fighting +4s nor farming and stick to relatively easy content, all that could be fine (although I think even in the ITF you could die if tanking due to the lack of capped DDR and S/L res) ; hell, you could probably do hard content with smart insp use, and, of course, as long as you have fun with the build nothing else matters.

Still, I really don't believe getting a bit more recharge and perma-hasten (which is the most overhyped thing ever for anything but a perma-dom) is worth all the sacrifices you do to get there, you could easily sit at ~60% global and fix most of the stuff highlighted above.
    Nihilii,

I respect your opinions a lot, but on this point I think you're wrong. The build works largely because shield charge and the fire AoEs (FSC, Fireball) are so overwhelming that the rest of it is largely irrelevant. Yes, you aren't going to be soloing AVs with this build, but for any content besides that or making impressive pylon runs, this build will outperform.

ITFs are not an issue. I've tanked one with mine and haven't died. And if you do happen to die...big deal, it's a rare occurence anyway. You're not going to be dying repeatedly. If you're doing a masters run you'd be leveraging inspirations or bringing along buffers.

OttS, Aid Self, good regen, good resistance are all nice to have but are not as valuable in a build like this that focuses on high octane offense. It's really a blaster in scrapper form. Stuff dies before they can wreck you. If you're sitting there waiting from stuff to just wail on you, well you're doing it wrong on a build like this. If you run out of endurance once in a while, you pop a blue.

I think you're viewing something from the AV soloing perspective of no inspirations and self sufficiency. This isn't a build like that. It is less self sufficient than other builds but is designed for maximizing offense with a soft capped build.
  6. Cat,

I only had time for 1 AE run tonight, but I've listed a Pounding Slugfest Dmg/End and a Pulzerzing Fisticuffs Acc/Dmg/Rech. Not sure if you want the latter, pretty sure you want the former. Both level 18 of course.

I've cracked the 100M mark a couple of days ago blue side from just IO sales. My new MM redside (level 18) just past 10M, but a good chunk of that was by drive by present opening and selling off the candy canes from that.

    Fire/SD/Blaze

This build is actually different than another one you posted that had melt armor. I must have assumed I imported it and had your other build already in Mid's. Heh. This one doesn't have Melt Amor, but Fire Blast.

I'd probably have a little more of a balanced build, but I have the bids out out of a Gladiator unique and a Panacea as well. So my build will probably have less recharge, but the resistance bonus of tough and maybe a smidgen better recovery.
  9. Fury Flechette

    Fire/SD/Blaze

That's a great build Tark. Packs more recharge than mine currently, and only at the expense of melt armor instead of fire blast. Don't tell me I started a trend over on Virtue.

    In need of help.

Post your build. It's honestly difficult to figure out what you did and what you're trying to do. I posted a build for you on your other thread (as did a couple of others), but that may not mesh with what you're trying to accomplish.

Tough is pretty marginal with 1 slot unless you're picking it only to mule the steadfast def/res and never even turning it on. The IO works whether or not tough is toggled on. I've seen some builds do this, but I dislike the practice. I especially dislike it for resistance sets such as fire armor, which benefits from the extra resistance.

CJ + the Steadfast + "some defense bonuses" may or may not be enough. I notice an appreciable difference around 17-20%. Below that threshhold, I don't think it's worth it. CJ and Steadfast at best (assuming you slotted CJ with lots of Defense) is 5.5% defense. Assuming you got two 3.75% defense bonuses, you'd be 11%ish...which isn't that hot.
  12. Cat,

I have a MM that I'm rapidly leveling for Teenage Wildlife (the villain equivalent of Midlevel Crisis). If no one else steps forward, I'll level lock her at 18, run a bunch of AE stuff, roll bronze and list any melee recipes I get. It'll take me a couple of days or so. Right now, I'm sitting at level 9 with about three hours of play this morning.

Is there any particular kinds of melee recipes you're looking for. I'm assuming you're looking primarily for acc/dmg, since 3 of those at level 18 would be pretty nice.

Sonic/Dark Corruptor. Skip fitness and take superspeed, shadowfall and recall. That way you can do the last room. */Dark MM works too.

Dark and Ice are *both* good on teams. I'm not sure why you'd say one is "more of a team style tank" than the other. It all comes down to personal preference. Chillng embrace + icicles are easily the equivalent to the dark amor auras in hate generation. Both tank well in the end game too. I've done every diffiicult TF on my Ice/SS/Pyre tank, including States TF, Lady Grey, Khan TF and the ITF as the primary tank.

  16. I put a number of useful level 33 IOs in the bins last night. Among them:

    Crushing Impact Dmg/Rech, Dmg/End, Dmg/Rech/End
    Thunderstrike Acc/Dmg/End, Acc/Dmg
    Smashing Haymaker Dmg/Rech/End

They're there for anyone who needs them. I suspect that people will reach level 30 very quickly. First come, first served.

It would probably take me an hour or so to PL you up a character on Virtue (home server) to level 22, set you up with some cash (10M) and then you could transfer to Freedom. I'm sure there are others who can do the same.

You don't have to start from scratch. PM me or shoot me a tell via my global if you're interested.

Lord knows a purpose-built base can have a truly ridiculous amount of storage, so it's not like it would really cost you much of anything (unless they use crazy salvage, of course...). Then, people could ask on the forums if you have one of X, and you could sell it to them directly.
With the AE tickets, and the bronze rolls I made, I have recipes coming out of my ears. Something had to go and honestly a niche recipe that *might* have a buyer will go and stuff like Thunderstrikes, Crushing Impacts and Reactive Armors, that will sell quickly, will stay. The base wasn't even started when I had this, so I had no hesitation of deleting it.

When the base is up and running and has adequate storage, I may list future ones.
  19. Here's something I put together fairly quickly.

The build doesn't have the greatest regen or recovery, but it does have a good amount defense (27.5% smash/lethal, 23% to most positions and types) and 45% global recharge. It has the endurance efficient scorch -> cremate -> incinerate chain, tough/weave and most of the blaze mastery powers including fireball.

There are some expensive IO pieces in the build, but you can substitute almost all of them and still get very good performance. Smashing Haymaker for Kinetic Combat, Multi-strike for Obliteration and Eradication. You can just do AE bronze rolls to get the Reactive Armor pieces. The Miracle and the LotGs are nice to haves, you can replace them with common heal and defense IOs until you have enough. The only ones you'll probably end up buying outright are the Blessing of the Zephyr -kb pieces, which admittedly are expensive and rare.

The build can easily be pimped out if you include purple sets, but based on your past posting history, I don't think you want to see builds where you're obligated to farm for the next month or two to afford it.

    The build:

I managed to sell them off at 300k a piece a few weeks before the event started.

Between my three characters I had buying them, I made about 350-400 million.

Which I'll soon be spending on buying THOUSANDS of candy canes to pawn off next year! If only they didn't limit buying/selling to 10 per stack......
Er, grats? I'm not sure if I'm patient enough to wait an entire year to make 350-400M. But I do have to give you props for patience and follow through.
  21. In a vain attempt at holding off Squez for the lead in prestige generation (I haven't been able to log in since morning. *shakes fist at real life*), I've generated about 16,000 AE tickets.

So, far I've generated 154 reward merits (story arcs, Ouro, Winter Event) and have converted 5 of those to random rolls, all level 33 (I have 54 left):

    Decimation Acc/Dmg/Rech - sold
    Scirocco's Dervish Acc/Dmg/End - sold
Gift of Ancients Runspeed - sold
    Obliteration Acc/Dmg/Rech/End - sold
Trap of the Hunter (forget which exactly) - deleted!

I also have a Blessing of Zephyr Travel and Travel/End on the market, as well as *several* Crushing Impact (Dmg/End, Dmg/End/Rech, Dmg/Rech) and Thunderstrikes (Acc/Dmg, Acc/Dmg/End) I've listed. They're all level 33 and courtesy of AE bronze rolls.

Best drop so far: Steadfast Res/Def, which I'll list shortly.

    A sniper build

I haven't looked closely at the build, but I can pretty much tell you it's not worth the time or influence to do a build like this if you want something efficient. If you just want something fun to mess with then, sure. However, I am very unimpressed with the AR snipe (even with build up). If I recall correctly, you'll be able to take out an orange Lt with that combination or leave it with a sliver of life if they resist lethal (which many sadly have in abundance in the upper levels).

By the time you've hit build up and used that snipe, you could have executed 2, maybe 3 other attacks and have done a heck of a lot more damage. Blaster snipes, as they are currently implemented, are awful powers. ED pretty much gutted them. I can't think of a situation where using a snipe is better than using something else. Yes, that includes pulling since higher damage powers will pull more than low damage powers most of the time.

    Damage output?

I think this is the key difference. My FF defender has her blasts 6 slotted with Thunderstrikes mostly for the ranged defense set bonuses. 6 slotted, they provide 65%+ accuracy, end redx, recharge and above the ED cap in damage.

Even without hasten (in my case) or in the case of Muon and I where neither of us had much global recharge, you can put together a seemless and endurance efficient attack chain.

I'd recommend that at the very least that a frankenslotted approach is used to slot up your blasts to reach 60% or more in accuracy, recharge and end redx and 95%+ in damage. Thunderstrikes are all sorts of awesome for a FF defender because it does all those things *and* provide 3.75% ranged defense for every set of 6. Three sets of 6 provide 10% of ranged defense which stacks on top of hover/cj/dispersion bubble/manuevers.

    Damage output?

Okay, no screenshot, but I just tried this mission with my level 43 FF/Sonic Defender.

    Difficulty: +2/x1 player/Bosses Yes/AV Yes

Cat Burglar spawned as a purple conning Elite Boss.

I went in running Dispersion Bubble, Manuevers, Tactics. My attack chain is shriek -> scream -> shout -> shriek. I don't have hasten nor do I have much in terms of global recharge.

The build *does* have 45% ranged defense, 33% AoE, 25% melee and good endurance sustainability.

Tactics: Clear the annoying German soldiers with their defense debuffs, defeat the Gestapo Agent, find Cat Burglar and pin him against the wall with Force Bubble.

With soft capped ranged defense and Force Bubble pinning him against a building, the fight was completely lopsided and unfair...to Cat Burglar.

I did not run out of endurance even with Force Bubble (and dispersion, cj, tactics, manuevers) running the entire time. I did use two small green inspirations only because I got caught with two lucky hits of Focus and Aid Self was still recharging. Most of the time, Cat Burglar did nothing since the only time he could attack was with Focus. Occasionally, Force Bubble knocked him down.

I'm positive I can beat him without using such "cheap" tactics. However, the other method I would use is simply using force bolt to keep him ragdolled while I beat on him. The net result would probably be the same, maybe it would work even better.

I'm also positive I could make the fight even more trivial if I leveraged inspirations more. Use a lot of reds and some oranges to take the sting out of the focus attacks. I could even get a global recharge temp power from the base if I felt like it.

Yes, my secondary is sonic so I do more damage than energy blast, so to compensate, I played at a higher difficulty. I think with my build though, a +4 Cat Burglar EB would be very doable. However, I'm pretty convinced that a FF/Energy with the right slotting could easily take out this EB. I don't even have Assault, and an aura that provides 18% more damage would make up the difference I'm getting from sonic -res.

Force field doesn't have a lot of ways to debuff enemies or self buff, but it has so many tools to keep you safe (PFF, Dispersion, Force Bubble) and ways to mitigate damage (Force Bubble, Detention Field, Force Bolt, Repulsion Field, Repulsion Bomb) that a fight of this nature only comes down to whether or not your build has decent endurance management.

One note: my FF defender is built for teaming, and hence is not optimized for soloing. If I were to build her as a soloist, I'd be running a far stronger and higher damage attack chain, have much more global recharge, better endurance management and have hasten.

    I think it's the OP's build.
