Quote:They're about as awkward as one another, but I gotta say I don't see too much of a resemblance. One looks closer to a bird and the other is a Matt Smith Frankenstein's monster.
I think the point was that as far as the roles they've played, they could sub in for each other with out many people noticing. -
Quote:Right...crib something from an obscure source, no one will notice, even if you bring it up in interviews and such :"yeah, i was inspired by this thing i saw ones a long time ago, and thought i'd try my take on it" no one will care, or at worst you'll get a "oh that's cool" kind of response.Except, y'know, hardly anyone knows about the film Re-cycle.

Inception's been seen about 3 times by everyone with access to a movie theater at this point. Even in a case of parallel thinking like this, you'll just get screams of "ripoff". I think it's the right move, and bonus points to Vaughn for the reference he dropped of where he'd gotten the (now canned) idea from. -
I'm inclined to think random. Having it be someone of significance would then require extra time to explain how the thing works when all the general public really needs is "Odin made a badass golem. Loki's set it's switch to "kill thor" mode."

No one's actually inside The Destroyer, it just needs someone's life force transferred into it. It has it's own intelligence, so unless the person has a stronger will, Destroyer is going to carry out it's "programming"

Quote:What are you talking about?
Jason was 14 when he became Robin, 16 when he died.
This would have placed him at the age of 21 when he returned, Dick 25, Tim 17, and Bruce 40ish.
This is the same in both the comic and movie.
There is no need for the change and it's a detriment to his story as well as future stories so they're just shooting themself in the foot with it.
The flashbacks of Jason as Robin (ex, the Riddler scene) was NOT a 14 year old. That was a prepubescent child....*maybe* 12 at the oldest. He looked about 16-18 when he was killed in the movie. Haven't read Death in the Family in a long time, but 16 seems roughly right from what I remember for his age when he was killed.
Yo can't say with certainty what their ages were in the movie...as they never explicitly state them, so they have to go with the way things looked, as far as the ratings and what they were comfortable showing.
At the end of the day, overall the movie was excellent. I'm fine with what Timm and Co. put out. -
Quote:Like I said, just a theory, and PG13 isn't R. Beating a *child* to death (in the first 5 mins) would have pushed the rating up, imo. Or, they simply weren't comfortable with showing that...also aging him up fit into the Red Hood storyline, with out having an unexplained gap in time for dead kid Jason to turn in to resurrected adult Jason. There are a number of other variations that are acceptable and it's an adult themed movie. They don't need to make Jason older than he was. That's a cop out.
Also, even when done by the same company, movie continuity != comic continuity -
Quote:One of the things that really annoyed me, and may this is just my pet peeve, but they once again put a pre-Tim Drake Robin in the red/yellow/black costume and this time I feel it is worse because a number of people who saw the previews thought "yay Tim's gonna be in this" and they show Jason in the old costume...oh and not to mention the upgrading of the suit between these two variations was because of this event so it doesn't make sense to have Jason wearing it...
other than that i think it's a pretty good movie with a few good jokes, mainly that came from Dick and Jason.
The reason *I think* they did that (change the suit) is that they didn't want to show Joker beating a child mostly to death. That means they needed to age up Jason a bit, and the classic Robin outfit looks *really really* creepy on someone that's pretty much a grown man. So, change the outfit to something not creepy, yet instantly identifiable as Robin. -
Yeah...considering he'd just taken a beating with a crowbar, he's in remarkably good shape. Even his body after the explosion was pretty open-casket worthy.
-
Just finished watching this on my PS3. Although Hamill and Conroy are not in it, that's the *only* slightly (slightly, as the actors playing Bats and Joker did a damn good job) negative thing I can say about it.
Stop reading this and go watch it. -
Quote:Well, I have to say that I kind of thought that they had been a "group" before fleeing, but their actual "nation" was only founded once they got to North America and started the whole Oranbega thing.
Regarding the Rogue Isles: not sure who this gives the argument to, but at the info (http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...arly_year.html) you can see this: "The main cluster of the group, home to Spider City, is at the 50 mile marker, outside U.S. jurisdiction. From there the smaller islands string toward the US coast."
Sooo.... that's pretty close to the U.S. I suppose you could also calculate the range given a short submarine trip of, say 30 minutes to 2 hours, and use current real world small sub speeds + CoX tech advancements...
Here's the whole paragraph
Geographically, the Rogue Isles are a small chain of islands NW of Bermuda that run in a band 50 to 20 miles off the US coast. Officially known as the Etoile Islands, there are dozens of islands in the chain. The main cluster of the group, home to Spider City, is at the 50 mile marker, outside U.S. jurisdiction. From there the smaller islands string toward the US coast.
So. The Isles are NW of Bermuda. They stretch over 30 miles. The closest to the States is 20 miles off the US coast. The main group is 30 miles from that, 50 miles off the coast. They are *not* closer to Bermuda than they are to the States.
Basically, they missed a comma after the word "band". If the Isles were closer to Bermuda, they wouldn't have mentioned "off the US coast", they'd have said "50-20 miles away from Bermuda". If they were near Bermuda, nearly 600 miles outside of US territory, it'd be redundant to say that the 50mi marker is "outside US jurisdiction."
Bermuda is only used as a directional vector...ie "go *thataway* (point towards Bermuda) and you'll find the Isles. First ones are about 20 miles away." -
Quote:Spoilers, in case you really expected otherwise, silly reader.
In a conversation between Protean an an off-camera voice, Protean asks, 'Who should I look for in Praetoria?'. They reply, 'Mr. G will be waiting for you.'
This seems to link up in my head as the note writer, as they do mention possibly recruiting Protean. I thought it would definitely be a new character, but that article does seem to hint that we'll be suprised.
It's the Great Gazoo. I feel it in my bones. -
Quote:No...she can't be. Maybe as far as our characters are concerned, she's studied the nature of things to the limits of her capabilities, but she could still be wrong. (and that's just what Venture went on to explain) That's like saying that Stephen Hawking *knows* the nature of the universe. He can work things out as best as possible, but he could still be wrong. He's on the same side of the screen as us, as it were. But we're on the other side of the screen as far as the game goes. We can ask the creators. We have the lore section of this website. We essentially have access to the Teacher's Edition of the text. That's an authoritative source. That is just an idiotic thing to say. Especially considering how the devs act in character and out of character randomly so you never know where the information is coming from.
Also Azuria IS an authoritative source. She "may" have her own agenda. That's true. Do you think I'm not taking that into account when I say that she is an authoritative source? -
Quote:And more importantly, using Atlantis would require underwater tech (or else the players would be all "WTF?!??! why is Atlantis *not* underwater?!?!?!1111@!?") which simply wan't an option at the time.I leave it to others to explain the tangled history of Mu vs. Oranbega, which is rendered more confusing by the fact that much of the Mu-related side of it was written second (during CoV development), even though Mu is the "parent" civilization.
As for the Atlantis thing, yes, there are clear similarities. (Note that I'm writing in this paragraph about popular culture, not the CoH backstory.) Both are sometimes cities, sometimes continents, both are sometimes said to be "lost" (Atlantis far more often than Oranbega), both are associated with enlightenment, splendor, and riches, and so on. That said, while Atlantis was first mentioned by Plato in the late 5th century/early 4th century B.C., Oranbega is a much more recent idea. The concept of Oranbega, also called Norumbega, really took off during Europe's Age of Discovery in the 1500's-1600's. This rich and splendid city, whatever it was called, was usually placed in the vicinity of present-day New England. Eventually, after Europeans started poking around the area and failed to find a utopian city of gold there, Norumbega disappeared from the maps.
The important part of that story, for CoH purposes, is "placed in the vicinity of present-day New England." When the early developers decided to place Paragon City in the American Northeast and to include a subterranean, ruined city, the decision to call it "Oranbega" was a tip of the hat to those sixteenth century stories. The connection to Mu came later, when it came time to flesh out the backstory of the magical enemies CoH-Oranbega was created to hold.
So, why not call it "Atlantis?" Because of the development arc. When pondering questions like this, it's important to remember the order in which the lore develops. First, the developers come up with a broad concept ("Let's have the magical enemies be based in an underground city."). Second, they come up with names and broad outlines ("Circle of Thorns," "Oranbega," etc.). Only once all this is done, and the related mechanics are ready for prime time, do they attempt smooth the backstory into the rest of the setting ("Where did Oranbega come from?"). The development doesn't happen from the setting's distant past forward or from start to finish. It's a piecemeal operation. The backstory is not a novel; players should stop expecting it to work like one. -
Because if they called it Atlantis, OP would be complaining about it not being underwater and populated by merfolk.

Even if they don't announce the date, don't they usually announce what's going to be *in* it?
Or did I miss the giant thread such an announcement would spawn? -
When did Jay change his name to "Nice Axe"?

Quote:I hope to see that CoH will be getting product-facing in GameStops. From the website "exposure", it doesn't look like much "exposure" at this point. I'll probably head to a GameStop and check out what I see and post again.
Exposure/Critique
Nothing on the GameStop main page.
Nothing on the GameStop main PC page.
Not listed in the "with bonus" selections for PC games.
Listed on Page 5 by Release Date with no date listed.
GR does make position 3 under PC>Roleplaying>Massively Mulitplayer (under WoW and StarTrek, and just above Aion). You have to know what you are looking for to get there.
And here's the actual game page from the site :: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=77978
Screen Shots make the game look empty. We need some shots of group battles and Rikti raids. It's nice that they are showing new content, but the shots need to be of new content with full teams.
The Notice section needs to be clear that the information outlined is for the "super booster" as this implies what is with the game and this seems it is very limited what comes with the game.
The "Bonus Details" link doesn't work for me. (EDIT :: oh, that's the mousepad. Don't make much sense unless you know that it is a mousepad. Nothing to indicate that is what it is.)
The Box Cover Art leaves something to be desired to me. After all this time, I would assume it was clear to the people that play this game - if not the DEVs - that the game is about the characters that we make and not about the "signature characters" that we can't play. The game box showing Statesman and Clone-of-Statesman standing back to back like they are defending each other is very fitting for the traitorous Statesman. However, this doesn't express what players will experience in the game. It certainly has no meaning to anyone that isn't familiar with the game. It doesn't express anything heroic or villainous - just cosplay. The cover isn't going to attract attention and I have fear that it will blend in on the shelf. It isn't that the art is bad - it just isn't taking much from the thousands of comic book covers that it could be using for research material. (and I'm not just talking about max-slidered women in "with skin" top - I mean - holy socks! - look at your audience! Two out of two "heroes" are men? Not very much like the composition of the City that I run in around in every day.)
I hope to see more stores carrying and promoting the game.
I'm looking forward to a flux of new players into the game interested in exploring the new content.
Methinks that what with it being a holiday weekend, the updates to the partner sites might just take a day or two. -
It's just flavor text. The NPCs are supposed to tell you how long you been online with that character, period... in mission, out of mission, standing around, whatever.

Quote:I don't think they're a big deal, but new chars get one of each, the site says. And they're procs, not just duo enhs.Guys, new characters get one of those enhancements, apparently at random. They're nothing to go crazy about. You can enhance ONE of your powers more than you naturally could until level 20, but afterwards, the cheapest double aspect IO does the same and has bonuses, too. They're no big deal.

Just another in a long line of easter eggs (no pun intended...or is it?) hidden throughout this game and videogames in general...nothing to see here.
-
Quote:Even if OP thought they were gonna get this windfall, they'd be doing it at the loss of all their enhancements...which would then need to be replaced, costing more than the windfall, so what's the point?
It seems to me the OP knew he never had 168 million on the character in question, and when he misread the amount he'd get for selling the enhancements during the respec he fell prey to his own greed and assumed the game was making an error in his favor. So he jumped at the chance to sell them without double checking to see if the number he thought he saw was right. As soon as the respec was over he went to check his windfall and lo and behold he found that he screwed himself over.
Of course the real people at fault are the devs. The OP can't accept responsibilityfor his own actions. -

The MM in my sig was paired up with a broadsword and board melee type...not sure what AT he was, but he was still pretty much at full health by time I got the projectors destroyed.
also...any ideas for taking out 8 Necro/DM's? Even at LT's they wasted me -
Quote:Hey folks.
I have to say that i was pretty unimpressed with the Q&A.
Most of it had to do with GR. I wanna see G.R. as much as the next person, but I was looking forward to more questions dealing with the game itself as opposed to a yet to be released expansion.
Um...such as? Anything about the game as it currently exists is pretty much available info.
The months before an expansion (for any game) tends to be dominated by info about said expansion.
