  1. If for some reason you find yourself with a build that has Surge of power or Force of Nature (not the accolade), consider slotting it for end recovery rather than resistance. The resistance will do nothing for you in either a DR on or off scenario, but slotted for end mod and added in with all the other recovery of a decent build means Heat Exhaustion is a lot less scary for a 2 min period of time. Especially on a dom where you can refill at the crash. it should give you a ~3 min window (2 while it is up, ~1 more from the dom refill) where you aren't downing blues like they are going to be removed from the game in the next patch.

Aye, such is why I mentioned the low damage ceiling. I don't think that term would be appropriate for normal brute powers

Sucks for brute SC, well it sucked before this change too, just sucks more relative now heh. I think it is a bigger issue for brute burn as it has the low cap and fury only works for a sec or so on it.

At any rate I think there is enough precedent to make the demand that ALL psuedo-pets get changed to adhere to AT balancing metrics. The issue present in dark miasma eclipses Shield charge as far as inter AT balance goes.

I'll be happy to fire up my bs/shield even more often when this goes live though.
  3. If you abide by the accepted definition of solo'ing (no temps, insp, click accolades) then to date I don't believe any scrapper has solo'd any GM.

Do a search for silverado, he has a bots/traps and he is well known for being a big game hunter, I'd be surprised if he didn't have links to some GM's for that toon.

Overcoming said Regen with enough damage to actually make an impact over time?

But if you want to oversimplify with what amounts to old wive's tales (veracity-wise) then go right ahead.

Also, I shudder anytime someone says what someone else "needs" to complete a given scenario. With enough patience (read: excessive patience) lots of things CAN solo AVs/GMs, its just that most sane players would not want to spend the required time in doing such things.
-def does very little given that GM's aren't hard to hit...at all.
    -res is very nice
powerful -regen is pretty darn important

As mentioned you need to crack in the mid 300's dps to even start tackling the project. How you get that dps is up to you, but I can't think of any builds that are able to do it without -regen.

So for GM's I'd say the old wives tale is more like the old tale of reality. AV's are a different story depending on the particular one* as solo'ing them isn't really a very noteworthy accomplishment these days.

*some very difficult AV's out there, some push overs.

If you can think of any builds capable of solo'ing GM's without -regen that would be worth bringing up.

OP try it with a /cold controller, an ill or fire/cold should be capable of it, but it would be no picnic. Or roll up a traps defender (sonic, or iceblast); they of course will go through GM's pretty easy just as the corr and MM versions do, but I haven't heard of anyone rolling one up yet and doing it. Thermal might also get the job done for you.
  5. That's good. squeaky wheel and all. It is good, just bothers me that there was a huge list of pseudo pet powers that probably should have been rectified before SC.

Of course now the very low damage ceiling really makes the brute version look crappy compared to the scrapper one.

Probably more than would start rolling toons on the EU servers, though some back and forth would happen I'm sure.

I'm just letting them know that freedom will gladly take them in.

    Fire/Storm

brawl + traps could do it

Fire is just the highest damage. Arch will do fine if that is the set you want to play.

At least being wrong hasn't stopped you from posting, that's a credit to your ineptitude I don't recall saying the game is dying (at least not on these forums). Though apparently some people in the EU are feeling it is pretty sparse and would like a crack at playing with us.

I said what I said in this thread in complete seriousness. One of the main rallying points behind denying server mergers is that people like playing on their empty server(s). I have no idea how many people could come onto the NA servers if they gave EU players access to them, but someone literally said they don't like seeing other people at the trainer. One EU person could be the toppling point in that case.

I'd rather not risk it, so come play on freedom, you're always welcome there EU players. It also works well because most freedom players want more players around, so freedom would be happy and the empty servers in NA would remain happily empty too. Also most pvp'ers are on freedom so if that interests you then great. I'm just trying to facilitate happiness. It's what I do.

Expand on this please. I'm curious what you mean. You wouldn't just by rallying the troops again would you? You already used that tactic at least once, am I not deserving of more?

Alright here is what we have:

The devs have designed a MMO, the MMO has systems in place that allow it to host up to a certain number of live people at a time. I think it is reasonably assumptive to state that they wouldn't build these systems without at least the hope of utilizing them at some point.

However, they recognize that not everyone wants to be inundated with "noise" from other players so they have created a laundry list of features to effectively make other players disappear
    -multi function hide
    -disabling chat channels
-travelling to remote areas of the game world
-disable effects (not sure if this does anything or what)
    -and much much more

The issue is that there is practically nothing that supports the flow in the other direction. I can't make players appear where they don't exist even though I can effectively make them disappear.

The only option present is to transfer to a more populated server out of their own pocket.

I get that some people really enjoy lightly populated areas. Pick any time you like and I'll go to freedom and find you at least 4 trainers where I'm the only person at them, a WW's where no more than 2 other people are and 3 zones with no more than 5 people in each one. Do you really need more space than that? If so how much are you getting on some of the smaller servers?

I'd just like a heroic game where I log in and see lots of other heroes/villains doing their thing. That's what it was sold to me as. So far the fearmongering, rallying of the troops, deliberate hyperoble and even the reductio ad absurdum haven't been very convincing (strange right? you'd think they would be) that my position is off the mark. A thriving City Of...

Anyway, this conversation has run its course. I've gotten the information I needed. This time I will take my leave more permanently

No I didn't miss the points, I clearly outlined aspects of the game that have been designed with the intention of "more work". Things like IO's, pvp, and other end game content. Finding a team does not remotely fall under that category - hyperbole or otherwise.

The place where finding a team is qualified to require more work is for special content like raids, or Master TF's, maybe even normal TF's(but even that is a stretch). PUG's are just that and for all intents and purposes they should be about as easy to form as it can get.

I haven't insulted anyone in this thread unless they are offended by discussions that run counter to their view in general. I did admit to crossing the line when I brought up feelings of entitlement being displayed, but I retracted that statement as it was not polite or constructive to the conversation. I made sure to point out when the other side did the same thing to try and keep things civil.

I can be a jerk and often am, but I don't feel it is necessary in this thread. I'm sorry others aren't feeling the same way though.

My comment about playing Dr. Phil is not meant as an insult, no one should be trying to psychoanalyze people based on a short forum discussion. That is just ridiculous and is was actually insulting to me that he had the audacity to do that. I'd hope most people would be bothered by such assumptive and misguided actions. Like I said though, I'm not upset. Only 2 discussions on these forums have ever upset me. The Lightning storm nerfs, and i13 pvp. This topic is nothing more than interesting to me.

Your point was that it shouldn't take work to find a team. It doesn't. What does take work is to find a team faster, and potentially better teams. There's nothing wrong with that, and is expected in EVERY. SINGLE. MMO. If you think that you can't find a team, on the most populous server, with just broadcast or setting the team flag, then I don't know what to tell you. I can do just that on a much less populated server. So, the very thing that you say that we should want on a more populated server is exactly what we do have on the servers we're currently on. So why would we want to change that?
I disagree, it does take more work that it should to find teams. Mod8 even came in and supported the idea of using private channels to aid the process. If it was easy, he probably would have recommended to just put up your flag and use BC. I'm not sure how you personally quantify "faster" when it comes to finding teams, but if I look for about 5 mins I start to get impatient. That is just me personally though and when need be I can utilize all of the non-default channels that I have built up over the years, but I like PUG's, they remind me of how much fun the game used to be.

What you think is going on on my end of the keyboard makes no difference to me. If it helps you can imagine me pushing nuns down stairs and kicking puppies.
I think you have me mistaken for someone else, I'm not upset at all. I know its fun to be Dr. Phil, but it takes more than 101 psych 7 years ago in college to do that job.

I'm not upset that I don't have much support in this conversation. It would be an aberration if I did. The people that fall into the category I'm describing just end up leaving the game. In fact I talked 4 people out of it last night while playing redside on one team (it was a group trying out the game together). I urged them to try blueside before they gave up.

I was going to leave the conversation alone, but you guys (well not so much you actually now that I look over the posts) just keep posting things that are worth responding too. It's a two way street.

It's pretty obvious yo have nothing to say, so now you are trying to cast me in a derogatory light so that others might side with you. It's ok, I won't hold this against you either. It is entirely unnecessary though, most people in this remote sector of the game are of your mindset, so you are in effect "preaching to the choir". No need to rile the troops again, unless you really want to?
  14. Katana is really pretty, golden dragonfly is a killer looking attack. The sets are so similar that I'd base it on aethetics. Log in and watch each animation in the character generater and go with whichever one is more satisfying to you.

At some build levels kat surpasses BS, but at other times one shotting stuff is always going to be faster than using 2 hits .

Defender traps is very strong. Mortar, FFGen, and Seekers, which are my favorite powers from the set are all considerably stronger for defs. And perhaps more importantly, they aren't just numerically stronger, they are tangibly stronger in game which is something that sets like:
storm, ta, kin, emp, and dark all struggle with when being shared between defenders and other AT's.

If you want to play on the penthouse server then you should pay the big bucks to be there, and since there is a huge population there should be a queue that you have to wait in until your number is called before you can play. Also since those servers are in such high demand your actual play time should be limited so that other big city players get a chance to play.

And since the low pop servers aren't as crowded there won't be any limit to length of time playing or a need to wait in a queue to play.
Sure why not. Except one small thing. The box sells it as the "most populated' tier already. So it would actually just be a monthly price break for everyone else, but not without some negatives too.

People already pay extra for the "penthouse", or what constitutes it in this game. MT's. Glad we are finally on the same page . And events used to hit "penthouse" restrictive status on freedom and virtue.

Just remember, if you think this analogy is silly I didn't come up with it, just look to the canned response to server mergers. I think it is fun, it has some apt qualities and at least discussing it this way people have stopped...being rude.

15 is more than 11. That's an increase in servers not a decrease.
    1. People that disagree and use strawmans in their argument are using strawmans in their arguement. ie when I say that finding people in an MMO should be easy and they turn that and say I expect instant 50's and free door sitting. Understand? In fact you should look at what you just said lol.

I'm very happy to calmly discuss things like we have primarily been doing. Tossing out strawmans is not helping, it is either a sign of lack of respect or a weak argument. I'm not keen on either prospect.

I had no idea they were listed by load, virtue is at the very bottom of my screen when I log in and I always play on freedom so I figured that it remembered my preference and listed that one first. Are they listed in descending order then for virtue to be at the bottom always? but then it remembers my preference and lists my server first?

They all just say "light load" on mouse over. Maybe now that the devs are so forth comming with real ingame numbers it would be handy if the server load gave a more accurate numerical representation of the current number of players logged in.
  19. Expanding on the city analogy that Memphis brings up in his canned response and has come up again recently:

I'd be surprised if those of you playing on "kansas" servers expect any less amenities than those playing on "NY" servers.

When you file a petition or when server maintenance occurs you probably expect it to happen with the same priority and response time as those in the "cities".

I grew up in the country, it took 45 min to an hour for the volunteer fire department to arrive at most places. It takes about 8 mins where I live now.

Additionally, the idea of playing on a "kansas" server is fine, but only if it is completely and fully communicated to players prior to joining it, just like a pvp server would be. The expectation in an MMO is for people, if a server is intended to stray from that it needs to be communicated upfront.

I'm kidding with this next statement, but playing on a kansas server should probably cost less per month, just like it cost less to live out in the country and it should probably not be hooked into the "big city" markets anymore cause you should be paying "stranded taxes" (my term for the price hiking you see in remote places and tourist traps) on the goods you access. Quantities should be far more limited on those servers because you don't have access to the city market. If you want access to the larger market you need to travel (ie transfer) get what you want and travel back to your area.

I'm not sure why this particular discussion is attracting so many strawman arguments, but you and Aett just did the exact same one.

What part of "easy to find people and teams" in an MMO is leading you to equate that with "auto 50's, doorsitting, and free x"?

Your team fortress example would be a reasonable expectation for zone or pick up arena play, but isn't what is being discussed with regard to the pve game.

Lastly, there has been some resent talk about the desire of the EU servers to either get listed with ours (full access) or get amalgamated. This is just coming from the player base mind you, but I think you guys should head over and make sure they know which servers they aren't welcome on because you might see another person at the market...j/k, but kinda not.
  21. I've been told people like playing on empty servers and your are wrong to expect otherwise in an MMO.

Personally I hope you get to join us soon, but make sure you don't join any of the empty servers here, the people playing on them like them just as they are. If they ran into you at the trainer it might drive them over the edge.

And just like real life in this game there are more smaller communities than there are big cities.
Ya, but the problem is that everyone pays to live in the city or Massively Multiplayer environment, if you will.

When I make a toon there is no indication beyond the bubbles what server population is like, and the vast majority of the time they are all ranked the same 1 bubble.

I get that some people sign up for Massively Multiplayer game with the expectation to play alone or with a small group of the same people all the time, but that really can't be what the revenue model is based around, or run parallel to the goals of the company.

It doesn't matter if I pick virtue or pinnacle, I pay the same. I pay to live in the city. Getting upset because other people want pinnacle to be more like a city when it is sold as that and designed as that and marketed as that is just backwards to me.

It's a Massively Multiplayer game, I really think you should have to utilize the dev implemented tools to break away from that design, ie hide or one of the 25 always empty zones. You should never have to work to find people in an MMO, unless they are stalkers in pvp . Rather than going to forums, joining non-default channels, sending tells to numerous people just to play the game as it is marketed and designed.

I dunno, I guess we just have a fundamentally different view on what constitutes the "MM" in a MMO.

I don't play fallout 3 and get upset when I don't see any PC's (or heck even any npc's lol) around because that is how the game is designed and marketed to be. But I do get upset if I log in and see practically no one in my favorite MMO because it is designed to be bustling with players and marketed as such.
