  1. Nice post.

So I guess at the end of the day, it comes down to peoples differing needs and definitions of the word fun...
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I dont tank with other tanks so might i just say it wasnt me . Although i have duo'd with freedom as shan (whose inuln anyway) against malta with carnie mish as he was lovely enough to show me how to do a safeguard mission.

People can take turns on herding but it is better if the other tank knows whats going on first imo. If a lvl 45 Granite tank brought all he could handle to a even more tauntful lvl 45 firetank then there could be problems. So auras are best not crossing for a start. Its really good if both tanks know what the other one is doing and they cooperate with eachother fairly and allow eachother to tank on their own terms. You make a tank and so ya may aswell tank with it.

    [ QUOTE ]
so naturally the barking of orders to team mates becomes almost subconscious.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Barking orders? I thought it was letting the team know of your intentions. I as my blaster am only interested in what angle i can best use my cones from mainly. I am not looking for any nearby nems with their high perception as I am keen to keep the fight duration down and so i too need to be aware some of the time. An obvious herdpoint to me may not be the one chosen. Alot of people may not understand from not having tanks, taunt control or certain methods and why they are used.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not disputing the tactic as a whole.. as it's very good and can do wonders for any team. It is, however, boring and repetetive. That's what I mean by barking. As someone has already stated, I would also rather faceplant a few times in the midst of chaos rather than have these boring, deviate- and- die tactics.
  3. I have seen something similar to this before. On one occasion playing my tank I was invited to a team by a granite tank, who thought he was the be all and end all of the team. He was constantly ordering people around and consequently I felt I was only there to give him more enemies to herd as I haden't been able to 'tank'. When I asked if I could try and tank for a while he ignored me so I went ahead and tested the water. After a successful herd, he sent tells to the rest of the team and told them to stop playing and stand around, as he felt I wasen't cooperating. After completing the mission (single handedly ) I left.
I'm not comparing you to this tank, but I understand the general feeling of uselessness that the Scrapper may have been going through.

Having played a granite tank myself, I found that because they are so strong (and overpowered IMO), there is little need for adaptation because the herd and kill tactic works so well, so naturally the barking of orders to team mates becomes almost subconscious. It's this aspect that made me get rid of my granite tank as once the novelty of being 'uber' goes away, your left with a boring, one- power- wonder.

I can relate to both you and the scrapper, on this one.
  4. Yeah... all great ideas folks, thanks a lot. The most important thing is the concept not necessarily the effectiveness of the set. I like the whole Storm / Energy KB idea, would be really fun and also the Storm / Psi hurricane idea. I just need to put on my thinking cap.

I've got my costume now aswell and the name Alluvion is reserved!
  5. After reading Nine_Claws', "What's your favourite Defender" post I have been persuaded to make a Storm/* Defender and I need some advice!

I play concept characters, and I am not sure which set to go for. Storm / Elec seems like the norm but I dislike the different electricity colours which come from it. Yellow from primary but blue from secondary... looks kinda weird to me. Storm / Archery, looks really good but apparently the bow has to be put away with every storm attack? Storm / Dark and Sonic I'm still thinking about.

Do Storm defenders find themselves too busy with primary set defending to attack?

Chi has taken me under his wing, so I'm in good hands!

    Any advice is appreciated. Cheers!

    I know nothing

    [ QUOTE ]
Well, I'm obviously advising you roll an Invuln/SS tanker because it's THE tanker.

Nothing can come close to that build because you're as tough as it comes without being debuffed to hell and back, have a proper attack chain (unlike Ice and EM) and can manage your endurance well (unlike if you get a proper attack chain with Stone Melee)plus, there's the most important factor of all, YOU'RE SHINY!!!

If you played an Invuln brute you may have noticed how ugly the look of the set is on the villain side and that Resist Physical Damage, Unyelding, Invincibility and Tough Hide are the cornerstones of the set, while the other passives are a bit [lot] pants

    [/ QUOTE ]

When rolling a tank, the last thing you want to do is listen to Jiaozy.

Inv - Yes... good resistance and yes your shiny.
Energy Melee - Yes... It's amazing.
Super Strength - No... bog standard, everyone has it, pants.

  7. I've been looking for something new and this is quite appealing. I'm sure the ball will get rolling when a few people sign up, so here I am.

I'm willing to play a character set by you, or I am more than happy to make my own. Gunddor caught my eye, though.

    I just need some information:

What sort of power sets would be preferable?

Are there any elected roleplay days?

Do you have to have a certain amount of roleplay experiance?

    and finally:

    What's the colour scheme?

Action shot of me on the right! Kodak moment!

Great raid guys and very good organisation... heck, it's the most organised raid I've been on. Maybe next time I might even get an invite!

    Cheers
  9. That's great thanks General!
  10. Whats the best way to slot Unstoppable?

I've been getting mixed messages... some people say it caps with one res SO and some say three.

    Thank you!
  11. Freedom_Falcon

    Energy Melee

Freedom Falcon has Energy Punch because it helps with my attack chain (more so for a stone tank). Other than that... all but stun is usually good!
  12. Freedom_Falcon

    Freedom 5!

I really like this idea. I'd need to think of a new hero though, so bare with me!

If possible... I would like to take the tank position if that is going!

    The Raptors

I forgot to mention that names are not restricted to 'Raptors'. They can also be associated with birds in general, flight or wings etc.

    The Raptors

    Thats true!

If you see the link I have given, it says that 'Raptor' is another term for a 'bird of prey'.

    But you are quite right.
  16. Freedom_Falcon

    The Raptors

    Hey folks!

I'm just testing the water with this idea of mine, which is to make a supergroup called The Raptors. It consists entirely of heroes based on predatorial birds such as Buzzards, Hawks, Falcons, Kites and the rest of them.

It is a group that like to team with other well designed heroes which all have the raptor theme in common. Roleplayers, casual roleplayers and non- roleplayers are welcome.

The supergroup isn't created yet, but it will come depending on the amount of interest this idea receives.

For more informatiom, post here, contact me via global handle (signature) or forum PM.

Below is a link which gives more information on 'Raptors'.

    Stereotyping?

    [ QUOTE ]

I have to say that I hated I5 and ED because I feel they forced me to pay attention to the numbers..

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, I wasn't actually saying that you (as in hammer) didn't have to, it was more of "yes, but you (as in generic) don't have to do that"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes I see where your coming from, but at that time all I had was Hammer, and he was nerfed so much. Still feeling bad about it. Now I have Skyfire and I have gotten back to the game and my other alts, but I am propably never going to get over what ED did to Hammer.

After I8 im gonna have 5 respecs available for him and Ive already went thru basically all permutations of the powers. None of them make any difference, war mace still sucks.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What you went through is the same as what any other player went through at that time. After all, ED was, at the end of the day, a method of making the game a lot more balanced. So, supposedly, 'Hammerfall', is now as he should be, whereas before he was overpowered.

Does this mean you will revert to a full shield tank and ditch some secondaries?
  18. Freedom_Falcon

    Stereotyping?

    [ QUOTE ]
    Freedom Falcon,

I speak here as someone who teamed with you way back in yout "teen" levels and later on, was on a lowbie team that you tanked for when you were in your early 30s just to help out (you were not exemped and thus got XP yourself) Far from getting pwned I think you have tanking down to a fine art.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you Lady, I appreciate that.

  19. Freedom_Falcon

    Stereotyping?

I agree, totally. The Scrapping tanker IS the norm and should therefore be referred to as a tanker. Tanks with only shields should be given the alternate name!!

    *Goes into deep thought*

    Jank Tank?
  20. Freedom_Falcon

    Stereotyping?

I see posts about it now and again... I've tried to find one but I'll post again when one comes up.

You, Shannon, of all people, surly must have read this somewhere?!

You other guys can back me up right? We have all read this at some point or another and it tires me out.
  21. Freedom_Falcon

    Stereotyping?

Why do people obsess over this premonition that tanks aren't supposed to attack?

I read a lot of builds on tanks because I love them and in almost every one there is some mention of; "tanks are not supposed to attack"...

I really want to know why!

I personally favour the tank that can give it and take it at the same time, rather than just taking it. I try and base my tanks on an equal amount of shielding and attacking just as a scrapper would take attacks equal to shields or as a controller would take control powers aswell as buffs / debuffs.

I can understand that there IS a stereotype of the tank as standing there and taking hits, but it really doens't have to be like this! Tanks can hit just as well as any other archetype.

How boring would this game be if every archetype took their role literally like tank players seem to. Controllers with only control powers, defenders with no attacks or a scrapper with only attacks.

I know I'll get "pwned" for this post, but I just wanted to voice my opinion.

Disclaimer: This post obviously doesn't apply to ALL tanks, just a select majority (In my opinion).
