Playing this arc right now.
I thought it was a comedy arc, or a parody, just going by your description, but as it turns out it's a great canon-related and serious arc. It's more of an homage than a parody, and since the canon game actually portrays the cops of Talos as something out of Miami Vice it's perfectly "legitimate" in my opinion.
I love the screenplay-style of the briefings/debriefings. If I thought I could pull it off I'd try it myself for one arc or another.
The only thing I could ask for would be a real soundtrack. You mention different kinds of 80s songs but I'd like actual titles I could look up and play during the missions and between them. That would make it perfect.
5 well-deserved stars. -
I'm planning to make 5 villainous arcs spanning 10 levels each. My intention was to make them all into alternative VEAT arcs to complement the ones in the "real" game, but they can really be played by any villain without suspending too much disbelief. Except maybe the first one - that requires some suspending, or creative thinking.
The first two arcs are pretty much finished (but still looking for feedback):
The Tangled Weave
Arc ID: 338575
Level: 1-10
Keywords: Canon Related, Ideal for Teams, Complex Mechanics
Description: Find out more about how Arachnos works behind the scenes in the Rogue Isles to make Project Destiny come to fruition. Recommended for Widows and Soldiers of Arachnos as an alternative VEAT arc.
This version of the arc has so far been reviewed by MrCaptainMan and received 5 stars.
Review by Eva Destruction. Unknown score.
Review by Police Woman. Rounded up to 5 stars.
Review by Tangler. 3 stars. -
I think it's weird how many people don't know about that map. The only "real" mission where it's used doesn't make a huge deal of pointing out that you can go inside the warehouse and somehow people still have managed to figure it out.
-
I use my blades all the time when I activate Sands of Mu.
-
The feedback was useful although at times a bit confusing: "Maybe too many ambushes." "I like ambushes!" "I want at least 5 ambushes per mission."
Seriously though it was good to run with a team to see what needed changing. I had no idea the arc was so bloated; I could solo it in 20 minutes but it took our team of four people 2 hours! I'm already thinking about what I can cut out to make it run smoother. -
I like this idea. I'm sure there are quite a few difficulties with making it come true, however. The least of which might be that MA missions just aren't easily converted into "real" missions.
As for the idea of evolving content I think they would do well if they used Ouroboros as a depository for old outdated content when they add new content to replace it. That way Ouroboros would be closer to actual time travel since we'd "go back" to revisit content that no longer exists in the "present".
Example: The current arcs relating to the Praetorians could theoretically be replaced by new arcs more relevant to the Praetoria presented in Going Rogue. The old arcs would still be available in Ouroroboros while the new arcs would be available from the "real" contacts in Peregrine Island.
Ideally Ouroboros should not have to depend on contacts existing in the "present time" to dispense the missions. They could perhaps use a technology similar to the MA contact hologram and simply have the contacts appear within the crystal of fire and ice, instead of having us travel to the contact in the game world. -
Quote:I have 6 reps; 2 and 5 have comments. I think simply the users are not putting in comments when they pos/neg you?
Yes, quite possibly. I'm not saying it's odd that all my rep doesn't come with comments. It's odd that only every other rep comes with a comment, in a perfect comment-no comment-comment-no comment pattern. -
I stopped hoping for real explanations or further in-depth exploration of established content a long time ago, but some kind of convoluted reason for why we can't just leave the banners alone would be nice.
-
I suppose it could just be a coincidence but it seems unlikely.
In my control panel I only get a comment on every other reputation line. At first I thought it was just a coincidence but now it's getting to the point where that seems highly unlikely.
I have 13 "lines" on my reputation list. The first line has a comment, then the third, fifth, seventh, etc. It seems strange that only half of them would lack a comment, and in such perfect symmetry. It seems more likely that there's something wrong with the list.
Has anyone else noticed this? If nobody else has this problem I guess it is just a coincidence after all. -
I thought they changed how TFs work exactly so this wouldn't be possible, with the new difficulty settings and all. How annoying.
-
They either need to explain it better or change it. It doesn't make sense for heroes as it is right now.
1: We fight monsters near the banners to make the banners vulnerable. So far so good.
2: We destroy the banners once they become vulnerable. Also fine.
3: A monster appears! We fight the monster. Normally not a problem, BUT if we had just left the banners alone no monsters would have ever showed up. The banners only spawn monsters when someone is nearby, and the big monster only shows up when the banners are destroyed. Since the banners go away by themselves after 20 minutes it makes no sense for heroes to try to destroy them and thus allow a giant monster to enter the zone.
If the event had just left normal mobs in the zone and let the banners spawn monsters who then spread out in every direction until they (the banners) are destroyed (similar to the Supa Trolls during the Skyway event), then heroes would have an incentive to fight the banners even if it spawned a giant monster. -
Sweet. With more HD space I can make even more variants of Aeon Corp employees for my arc. I was annoyed when I found a few hidden away in AE buildings I hadn't been to before and even more annoyed when I discovered that I didn't have room to add them.

You should be familiar with this then:
Linky!
Happy birthday!
And my own contribution to the list:
- I realized that there's no end-game so I decided to reroll.
-
-
Thanks again. I decided to make it a little different.
-
Thanks a lot for the review, I laughed and laughed and almost made the mistake of drinking while reading. I've fixed the mysteriously friendly orderly patrol you noticed, as well as most of the errors you pointed out in PMs, so now it should be alright. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
-
You get capes at level 1 but you can't have a goatee until you've unlocked the facial hair costume pieces. You have to do a special mission for the Resistance starting contact - Blue Steel - at level 20. I don't want to spoil too much but you are sent to find the legendary Chuck Norris and steal part of his beard to wear as your own.

I'm looking for more feedback on my latest arc.
#338575: The Tangled Weave
Level 5-10
Learn more about how Arachnos works behind the scenes in the Rogue Isles to make Project Destiny come into fruition. You will revisit some familiar events, or events leading up to them, from a slightly different angle.
The arc was designed to be played as a VEAT, as part of a project to complement/replace the lacking VEAT epic arcs. Just keep that in mind if you play it with another type of AT. -
Don't worry. 50% of missions redside have us fighting other villains. 49% make us fight Longbow, who are acting like villains and terrorists in the Rogue Isles - any proper Vigilante should be happy to show them why they're wrong. The last 1% is Westin Phipps - you don't have to do his arcs.
-
That's an invitation for disaster.
I could go as far as allowing specific selection of spawn points for things like bosses, hostages, etc. I would not hold my breath waiting for us to be allowed to move spawn points around.
And considering they won't even let us pvp in broken bases I doubt they would let us pve in them either. -
A waste of time.
I'd rather see them work on more power animations and more costume pieces than animating the ones we have.
Now, animated tails on the other hand... -
Oh one more thing.
I really, really, liked the extra information you added to the contact when you click on him a second time during a mission. That's a really good use of that feature. -
Wow. Just from the look of that banner I can say that this is going to be interesting. If he wasn't so perfectly useless I'd bring in my character "Lord Ego" to play it.
