  1. FYI - I found this letter in my inbox and decided to share

    Regards,
    4

    Code:
    Dear _23X_,

FourSpeed has apprised me of the results of the auction
for my dear Nathan's Shield Wall enhancement, and I wanted
to pass along my sincere appreciation and gratitude.

_23X_ is an unusual name for a hero, isn't it? Oh, dear me,
you aren't a villain, are you? That would be dreadful.

Perhaps it is just a codename like "007" or "Agent 99".
Yes, I'd much prefer that to be the truth.

In either case, what is done is done, and your generous
offer has allowed me to make an important contribution to
the continuing, wonderful works of those brave heroes who
    comprise the Crazy 88's.

I know they will put that 6 Million Prestige to effective
use stamping out crime in Paragon City, just as my Nathan
would if he were still with us today.

I hope that you too, will come to value that powerful
enhancement as much as he did, and it is my hope that it
keeps you safe while carrying out the good works I'm sure
    you do.

Once again, thank you so much for helping me keep my dear
grandson's memory alive through your purchase.

    Warmly,
    Granny Warbucks

PS> Thank you FourSpeed for your efforts - without you, this
auction could not have been the tremendous success it was.

PS> This concludes my episode of "Split Personality Disorder" - for now

You sir, are the reason Ron White is SO successful... welcome to /ignore.

  3. I have it on good authority that Granny has made a significant donation, and
that the Crazy 88's have moved into position #9 among Virtue's SGs.

    Regards,
    4

PS> @Dreamt: As far as I'm aware, *anyone* can join the Crazy 88's...
Promotions, on the other hand, have Prestige requirements.
But simply joining? No requirements beyond the desire to join are needed (afaik).
  4. As a quick update, 23X and I were able to complete the winning purchase,
and I've passed the news on to Granny (along with the cash, of course)

Congratulations to _23X_ on his purchase.

shhhhh... don't let her know, but I also checked with one of my sources in
the Crazy 88's. They were kind enough to send me this screenshot, which
details her current Prestige amount (pre-sale).

Given _23X_'s purchase, I feel certain that we'll soon see that number
jump to 15 Million prestige once she follows up on the promise of her letter
and converts that 3 Billion inf to the 6 Million prestige it will generate.

I for one, am looking forward to that next picture.

the enhancements cost substantially more than the recipes. So that could
explain why the OP is seeing a ton of stuff at "2b" that other people are
    saying goes for less.
It simply doesn't matter - for the 5 or 6 items in-game that actually run
over 1B, the recipes and crafted IO's are very probably near or at the
    same price.

I can't check as I'm at work atm, but at that pricing, the actual costs for
crafting are loose pocket change - consider... you pay 1B for the recipe,
and it needs two rares (say, 2M each), and a couple other common pieces
of salvage, say another million there, and there's a 600K crafting cost (if
you don't use a discount ticket).

So, creating the shiny from recipe runs what 5-6 Million? ... as a percentage,
that's 0.5% of total cost - or, 1/2 of a penny (relatively speaking)

The OP's problems are far simpler than grade school math.

    1> He refuses to read

    2> He refuses to think

3> He is far too busy being beligerent to even recognize that points 1 & 2
    are occurring.

In short, until those points get corrected - he's in KHANNN!!! mode

To use the proverbial car analogy - there's no point in filling the gas tank
if the transmission is broken and the tires are flat...

Of course, it's great entertainment, but hardly useful for getting from A to B.

Think about it. Think about marketing a game. It is a game, remember. Stay with me now. A game is supposed to be fun. You remember fun, right?
And, that is exactly what they have... Even if that simple fact is beyond your current understanding...

returns. I am saying, there is no feasible way for anyone to get one toon
fully tricked out with purples and PvP enhancers unless they 1) farm all
day every day for a year. (farm, not play) 2) buy in game cash from china illegally.

So, the Devs have set up this situation. the Devs need to fix it. Most
people want to spend 3-6 months on one toon, and have something way
cool to show for it. if the Devs do not get that then they need to have a
serious conference style think tank day.
Since you think tenure matters, I'm a 60+ month vet... Simply put, the
bulk of your assertions are flat out wrong.

1> Many people have toons "fully tricked out with purples and PvP
enhancers". I have a couple myself. While I am an active marketeer, I'm
not an "all day every day farmer", and I have never been involved in an
RMT transaction - hell, I won't even buy the extra packs from NCsoft,
    nevermind illicit crap.

So, this claim is flat out wrong.

2> "So, the Devs have set up this situation". No, they didn't. What they
DID do is set drop rates for any "loot", and they set up a Market/Auction
system whereby players can trade this loot with each other using the in-
game currency... Prices are set by players - not devs.

So, this claim is flat out wrong.

From my perspective, there are only a finite handful of very simple choices
    for you.

1> You can tilt at windmills as you currently are doing - rest assured, it
will garner little (if any) sympathy. We simply don't care because your
    claims are flat out wrong.

2> You can find alternatives to slotting purples and PvP IOs. As other
posters have noted, those items are not NEEDED to make an effective
toon or play the game well. In many cases, the benefits those items
provide can typically be found in other, far cheaper, and far more available
    items.

3> You can learn to do the activities that will allow you to gain the items
you want if #2 isn't cutting it for you. Marketeering, specifically, is easy
to do, and over time, will get you far more inf than farming for the same
amount of time invested... Of course, combining farming and marketeering
is even faster if you're so-inclined (I simply prefer marketeering myself)

4> You can quit - If you do, I'll ask the age old question - Can I haz ur stuff?

In conclusion, yes, there is an element of "sticker shock" for first time
marketeers (I went through it myself way back when). That said, getting
past that moment, and getting to the point where the prices are no longer
a problem is pretty easy and fairly quick if you choose to make the minimal
    effort needed.

    Best of Luck,
    4

PS> Just read your prior post (made while I was typing this)...
Caps won't do what you want - what they *will* do is ensure that
most (if not all) of the real, and valuable items will be sold "off-
market" as some of the top items currently are, creating a real
black market for those goods... GL with that...
  9. Bidding for the Shield Wall is now officially closed.

I'd like to thank both Enyalios and _23X_ for their interest, and
congratulate _23X_ on the winning bid of 3 Billion inf.

I'd like to complete the transaction as your earliest convenience.

I'll be on later today (~5:30 pm MST) if that works for you, otherwise, we
can sort out a mutually convenient time.

Once the transaction is complete I'll forward the proceeds to Granny, along
with your request for a letter from her

    Once again, congratulations and thanks!

Did you pimp this in that hilarious EverStryke thread, 4?
LoL - no I didn't do that, although it is a funny idea...

Honestly, I didn't expect to have to push it this hard (and or cross post it
too much). I actually figured an 88'er would ultimately be the buyer.

Originally, when chatting with my friend about it, we simply thought it
would be a funny way for me to sell it, with that little RP story, knowing
full well where the proceeds were going...

<shrug> I'm glad at least, that there's one bidder... Go Figure...

    Regards,
    4
  13. A bit off topic here, but I have to confess that I'm a bit disappointed and
rather surprised that only one of the 88'ers has shown any interest in the
Shield Wall I'm auctioning in this thread.

The proceeds from the auction are going into the 88's Inf-cinerator, just as
your donation would, except you get a nice shiny to show for it.

As I mentioned, I'm pretty surprised that only one person seems to want one
of the top trinkets in the game...

Anyway, give it some consideration, bidding closes Sunday.

    Regards,

  14. Bid on Granny's Shield Wall!

Only two days left, and she's expecting me to sell it for her -- that is all...

  15. Ettiquette?

Since when did that get added to PvP???

    All Kidding aside.

In zone, you are specifically allowed to kill any targetable player as early
and as often as you like by any means at your disposal, provided it does
    not violate "game rules".

By "Game Rules", I am aware of only TWO things that are Verboten.

1> Attacking players from outside the zone's geometry (ie. map
holes/bugs). It used to be possible (and still may be for all I know) to get
under some zone maps -- from there, you could kill targets with complete
    impunity. That's potentially bannable.

2> Tp foe inside "inescapble" geometry... ie. you used to be able to port
folks into the little guard towers (where they couldn't escape) -- those
have long since been fixed, but if there are other similar cases, doing that
    is potentially bannable.

Anything else, including droning, porting into NPC's, killing guys while
they're chatting, fighting something else, or otherwise AFK or distracted,
and any other methodologies you can think of are completely permissible.

Players who go into PvP zones are warned (in nice big red letters) that
    they are fair game...

If they can't stand the "heat" ... TFB ...

    Regards,
    4

PS> The various "chat" harrassment things also apply (racist slurs, etc.)
but, for the most part, taunting, heckling and the like are given a lot of
    GM latitude in PvP zones.

A few off the top of my head. Bear in mind these are purely my opinion

    Code:
For Kheldians: "Quantum" anything (mobs using Quantum Gun)
                      Voids

    For Stalkers: Knives of Artemis
                      Rikti Drones
                      Ruluruu Eyes

For Brutes (SS/WP): LongBow Nullifiers (L40+ debuff regen to 0)

  17. Interesting...

I must not be much of a fashion horse

I always start with a name and a backstory for the toon (however feeble
it might be), and then I make their costume.

They don't get into the tutorial until I'm satisfied with their look, so
they're always "right" from the get-go (with only one exception).

In most cases, I never even bother getting the additional costume slots,
and for the toons where I did, it was typcially just to make a Christmas
    outfit for them.

The one exception is a character which is currently mothballed because
we can't make a short, dumpy, overweight toon in the costume creator.

When we can, I'll revisit her - not until.

But other than that specific toon, all of mine don't leave the creation page
until I'm pleased with their look (and yes, sometimes that takes awhile).

    Regards,
    4
  18. Short of one gap (over a dispute with NCsoft), I've been here since the
    original beta.

My reasons probably mirror everyone elses.

1> The game concept (classic comic book heroes & villains) intrigues me
more than (woefully overdone) mythical elves and dragons.

2> The friend of mine who originally talked me into playing the game (I'm
not, by nature an MMO guy) is still here and we duo together weekly

3> Replayability is off the charts: By that I mean, that no two ATs play
the same way - sometimes even 2 of the same AT play differently
(especially true for Khelds). While some of the missions and whatnot get
pretty dull, the ATs and powersets differ enough to stay engaging.
Unsurprisingly, I have a lot of alts...

4> It's solo friendly (which I do 90%+ of the time). I prefer standalone PC
games over MMO's generally, but this one is solo-friendly enough that I
can treat it like a standalone -- I like that.

5> Cost - that recurring payment was the biggest sticking point for me.
However, my friend, putting it in perspective of a couple mixed drinks at a
bar covering the entire month of play, finally convinced me that the cost
    was tolerable.

6> Forums/Community: In game, most folks don't even know I'm there (by
my own intent), so the forums are the "social content" of the game for
me, and by and large, there is a very diverse, and interesting group of
(mostly) intelligent and friendly people - I like that part too.

For me, it all adds up to sticking around awhile...

  21. Granny will be making a contribution based on proceeds from her auction
(see other thread in this forum).

That said, if someone is already planning a big contribution to the 88's,
consider bidding on Granny's trinket with it - the proceeds will still end
up in the 88's. While it's true that you'd be boosting her prestge rather
than your own, it's also true that you'd get a pretty nice shiny for it...

  22. I for one don't care whether je saist is right or wrong ... on HIS toon.

    He's definitely wrong about mine.

My Rad/Elec Defender's hands down, safest spot, is next to his nicely Rad
Infected, Ennervating Fielded, Tesla Caged, within a Choking Cloud,
    anchored foe.

That mob, and anybody else with him are out of the fight - period.

Anybody outside the "goop" is the priority target I'm shooting at first.

I agree 100% with Local Man and Psylenz on Choking Cloud, and yes, that
includes the Lockdown proc - a beautiful thing.

    Regards,

PS> That doesn't even take into consideration Short Circuit, and Power
Sink, which completely End drains any non-EB or AV within that PBAoE
range with a single application of both.

    * 1 L50 (crafted) Shield Wall Teleportation +Res(All) enhancement for auction.
    * Bidding starts at 2.5 Billion. Bidding closes on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010.
    * All Sale Proceeds to go to the Crazy 88's Inf-Cinerator
I received this letter from a blueside toon, and after reading it, agreed to take on
    this little project.

    Code:
    Hello FourSpeed,

    I am Granny.

I am not a hero, but my beloved grandson Nathan was. Sadly, he perished during
    the Rikti War.

As my own time grows near, I have decided to give back to the community to help
other brave and courageous heroes like my grandson carry on their wonderful works
    in his memory and honor.

To that end, I've decided to auction one of Nathan's most prized possessions,
his Shield Wall Teleportation +Res (All) enhancement. He was very proud of it,
and I know it saved his life on more than one occasion. I have kept it all these
years as a reminder of the mighty hero he was during his life in Paragon City.

This is a unique enhancement, in pristine condition, that has been lovingly cared
for (I polish it every day) and I feel certain it would serve its new owner just
as well as it did for my dear Nathan.

Due to your standing in the marketing community, I am asking you to oversee this
    auction on my behalf.

Once the auction is complete I plan to donate all of the sale proceeds to those
courageous heroes in the Crazy 88's to aid their wonderous efforts. It is heroes
like them, stamping out oppression, investing for the greater good of Paragon,
crushing casual criminals, which so reminds me of my heroic grandson.

I ask you to help me to encourage all those heroes striving against tyranny,
anarchy, and criminally oppressive marketing fees to join the cause by bidding
    on Nathan's Shield Wall enhancement.

    Thank You So Much,
    Granny Warbucks
A little melodramatic perhaps , but she seems like a kindly old lady devoted
to her departed grandson - in any case, I have examined the enhancement,
and I know that it will benefit some lucky bidder's character.

    So, to recap:

Up for auction: 1 L50 (crafted) Shield Wall Teleportation +Res(All) enhancement

The minimum bidding price is 2.5 Billion and bidding closes on Sunday the 7th.

Bids can be posted in this thread or submitted via PM (I will post the amount
of any PM'd bids so other bidders will know where they stand)

Next week, the winner of the auction will be contacted to arrange a time for
the transaction. The exchange can (preferably) be through gleemail or another
    negotiable and mutually agreeable method.

Once the transaction is complete, all sales inf will be forwarded to Granny,
who has promised to donate the entire amount, converted to prestige, to the
    Crazy 88's supergroup on Virtue.

I've only had this happen occasionally, most of the times my invis works but once in a blue moon a random mob will take a swipe at me even though I haven't aggro'd it.
As a stalker who has often experienced this myself, I'm not sure I can describe
"how it works", but I can say "what happens".

I occasionally duo with a friend's Brute. Typically, I'd con a group, decide
who I'm going to attack, and move into place for the AS.

On numerous occasions one of these have happened.

1> The group sees the Brute (pre attacks), and aggros on him as normal -
however, since I'm nearer to them than he is, it's not unusual for one of
the mobs to turn and attack me also.

2> Same effect as #1, except it occurs just after he attacks (ie. he gets
his shot off at or before the time he'd normally get "visual aggro"). The
only real difference here is a slight one in timing.

In these cases, there is not a change to your Stealth Radius, and it's not
a suppression mechanism but rather a byproduct of the aggro mechanic.

I would definitely say that if a team draws aggro, everyone in the team is
on the aggro list - regardless of whether they are visible or have attacked
yet...and yes, it can be annoying.

I know in our case, we definitely are not over the 16 aggro limit, and it's
not a perception problem (as I can safely move into position without issue).

It's not a huge problem, it just means we have to coordinate better to
    manage the aggro.

On the other hand, there is a true suppression case with at least one mob
type. Longbow Nullifiers have no perception benefit, but they do have an
aura that lowers/suppresses Stealth a bit when you get close to one -
this sometimes means that other mobs in a group can see you sooner than
you'd expect even though the Nullifier hasn't actually detected you yet.

You can see that effect in the attributes monitor for stealth (radius IS
reduced), and even test it in Bloody Bay (with Nullies near Turrets - which
    do have +perception).

Brutes (in PvP) also have this effect in some of their powers (RttC is one).
I have tested this effect with my Brute friend in Warburg.
