Quote:This request has already been refused and as has been mentioned above the compromise we got was PM's being unlockd for everyone.Quote:Any chance you'll be able to unlock all the forums for everyone, then?
It sucks not being VIP and not being able to post on my own server, or not see the beta boards despite contributing quite a bit to certain would've-been-upcoming features.
Sorry guys, I know this will disappoint many people, but I'm trying to make this as sustainable as possible. -
Quote:I understand what you are saying as well, but if the seller is paying enough attention to what's going on with CoH to slash their prices 50% and more after the announcement yesterday then they can't claim ignorance.I understand what you're saying, but I think it's a tad early to be claiming that. There are a bunch of these things for sale all over the place, just as they were before the announcement.
And, up until... when, yesterday(?) they still provided a service.
Do you think that all of those merchants know that the game has been canceled? No way.
Just a mess I hadn't thought about.
Out of curiosity I was checking the prices on Amazon every day since the beginning of Sept because up till the most recent announcement I'd been recommending buying old unopened copies to get VIP status, and some of those sellers are paying attention to what's happening here. I've seen up to a 77% reduction in price on some while others remain the same. -
Quote:What a tricky mess they have on their hands now too... any and all boxes out there for sale are timebombs of disappointed costumers due a refund.
Hrm... that really stinks. Let's see what happens with customer service...
Yeah but a refund from who? NCSoft isn't the one trying to foist off surplus merchandise for a product they are no longer offering. It's the independent sellers/retailers scamming people. This is no different than someone trying to sell a used code to an unsuspecting sucker. -
Quote:/This
Seriously.
Paying attention and doing research are a wonderful tools to use in this situation. -
Quote:And that is exactly what NCSoft would have to do anyway if they sell the game to a third party. Same with giving refunds and not offering credit to other NCSoft products. The game has been removed from the public portion of the PlayNC website even though the "News" does not yet contain an official announcement. The "CoH News" does, but the main news feed does not. However, removing the game in favor of "Blade and Soul" indicates to me that NC Soft has already decided that CoH is going away and those resources will be moved to promoting and serving "Blade and Soul".
This is actually good news when we consider that negotiations are still ongoing. Just like it's good that they haven't made everyone VIP's after announcing the shutdown. If there was no chance the game will be picked up and run by a new owner under the F2P business model they'd have made everyone VIP until Nov 30. The fact that they haven't is a good sign that they don't want to screw up the accounts when the game relaunches and wish to keep the accounts correctly flagged as Freem, Prem, and VIP. -
Quote:And didn't River recently (in "Let's Kill Hitler") give his system a boost by giving him her ability to regenerate? He was 12.5, between the Doctor's 12th and "final" incarnations. Of course, now you have the Doctor claiming that there's no limit on regenerations in The Sarah Jane Adventures, and the Time Lords were the ones who put that restriction in place originally and they're long gone. So really who knows what the hell's gonna happen.
-
Quote:This makes the most sense. What I'm HOPING for is that the reason they aren't giving everyone free VIP is because there is still a possibility that the game may end up in the hands of another company. If said new company keeps the existing F2P structure, switching people that are currently playing on Free accounts to VIP would screw up the records.

Quote:A Dalek companion would have the same problem as K9: Far too many traditional Dr Who plots would be resolved near-instantly when the Companion blows the monster-of-the-week into smithereens.
In my mind the Doctor would have disabled/removed her weapon either at her request or at his insistance. Maybe replaced it with a sonic thingamajigger. -
Quote:I assumed they remembered because they wereYeah it was an alternate timeline but we don't know who ended up remembering it. River and Amy remembered, as did the Doctor and presumably Rory so it's not far fetched to imagine Madame Kovarian remembered it too.
Hard to say. I really do hope we see her again. She seems pretty interesting and I'd like to know more about her.
And as I said, we're really short on -recurring- villains in the show.
a. Time travelers.
b. Their own lives were so closely intertwined with the Doctor's.
c. Amy grew up with a crack in the universe in her bedroom.
But I could easily be wrong. Like I said wibbley wobbley, timey wimey. -
Quote:<Raises hand>Was anyone else hoping the Doctor's next companion was the crazy Dalek? Could just imagine it now. "Blast! My great weakness. Stairs." Would have certainly been fun with having a crazy dalek as the comedy relief of the show.
I toyed with the idea but decided not to mention it because I figured there'd be a mob at my door within a few hours with tar and feathers.

Quote:This. NCSoft will never earn another dime from me for their distastful treatment of CoH and its Devs.
So if NCSoft decided not to shut down CoH come Nov 30th you'll be dropping to Prem and boycotting the Paragon Store? Maybe even refusing to play at all?
Just curious. -
Quote:Sorry my bad about the dates. You are right. I only heard of it after the announcement was made and confused when I heard of it with when they announced it.Techically, ArenaNet suspended digital sales on Thursday, 30th. The announcement that CoH was closing happened a day later, on Friday 31st of August.
So, I think we can probably conclude that sales did drop notably after the announcement about CoH.
(Disclaimer: While I might indeed be inferring that the drops in sales of GW2 are related to CoH being shut down and not, you know, because that ArenaNet stopped selling their game, this was merely for humorous effect. I realize than in actuality those two things are unlikely to be even slightly connected.) -
Quote:I'm in the same boat as you here but fortunately for booth of us we can still enjoy the game and continue to financially boycott NCSoft because GW2 allows us to convert the ingame currency we earn from playing the game into Gems that are needed to buy items from their cash shop.I actually bought GW2 prior to NCSOFT announcing the closure of COX & Paragon Studios as well, might as well play it.
Quote:I agree with your above comments. The auto "exemplaring" acts as a double-edged sword. It is good when you want to play with friends who have just started and have significant level difference. And or if you done with your lowbie zone and want to experience another race's lowbie zone.
But it gets REALLY ANNOYING if you are just moving around exploring or farming raw materials for crafting. I can't count the number of times I draw aggro while roaming in Charr (1 - 15) zone when my elementalist is lvl 26.
I wish Arenanet would implement an ingame toggle on whether we want to be auto-"exemplared" or not.
So IMHO the lack of harrassment far outweighs any annoyance it causes. -
Considering they put a temporary hold on selling digital copies of the game after the announcement was made because they didn't anticipate the number of sales and the effect it would have on their servers, I'd say the announcement that CoH was shutting down didn't have any significant impact on GW2 sales.
-
That's hard to say. It depends on how many people are in Chinese prisons and the schedule they are forced to follow since they have to "farm" multiple games.

Quote:The only times I've been killed running thru a zone is when I chose to go thru a zone where the NPC's greatly outclassed me. As for fast travel I make heavy use of the teleport system for instant travel to places near where I want to go.Good advice overall, but I admit I chuckled at this part.
In playing both The Secret World and GW, I've noticed that overworld enemies are mostly just time sinks that are not worth dealing with. You don't get a lot of rewards for killing them, and fighting them is often a slog. But the way they are positioned and respawn, you are forced to deal with them constantly. I don't know how GW2 is after the starting areas, but I keep getting really annoyed with TSW and the million pointless enemies I have to fight just going from place to place. I am almost never defeated in an actual fight, it's almost always because I didn't feel like dealing with enemies 1 by 1 and tried to run through the area, and ended up pulling the whole zone.

Quote:Don't tell anyone, NCSoft has performed a marketing coup. By "cancelling" the game they have gotten tons of free advertising and reached millions of gamers worldwide. And by keeping silent on the issue when Nov 30 rolls around they can announce that it was all a viscious rumor and that they never said anything about cancelling the game. How to get more players: tell literally anyone that this game exists. I'm pretty sure NCSoft hasn't done that since CoV launched.
No I don't actually believe that, but the cancellation has gotten more attention than any regular advertising has done in 8 1/2 years. -

Quote:But the Silence didn't actually double cross her. That only happened in that timeloop that occured when River didn't "kill" the Doctor. When he "died" none of that ever happened.I was kind of hoping that Madam Kovarian might end up a recurring villain and there's still a chance for that but I'm kind of expecting it won't be the case. Especially since the most we've got on her is just she's one of the Silence's lackeys and they double cross her.
Right?
Timey wimey wibbly wobbly stuff. -
Quote:100% your zones. Seriously, jump up to those vistas. You get a big bump for the 100%, and more importantly it leads you places where you find events and nodes.
Hit every event you see, unless it's one you hate or didn't enjoy. Especially escort or "hold the camp" type events that throw huge waves of mobs at you. Equip whatever gives you the most AOE and rain death. You will make bank on this. If it is humanoid mobs, thank your lucky stars and enjoy picking up all those little "tiny thorned bags" and "bag of filched goods," because that's where cloth drops, and if you're not tailoring, cloth sells like mad.
Pick up EVERY crafting node. Seriously, go out of your way for them. You get more xp for picking a carrot than for killing a mob (because mobs come in a much greater density) and crafting mats you're not going to use, you can sell. Plus, you'll usually have to kill some mobs getting to them, and that's xp.
Do your personal story until it becomes too high level for you to handle it, then move back to the overworld.
If you really get tired of a zone, don't 100% it. Just move on to the next. You get more xp and a higher chance of drops the higher level mobs you're fighting, but if you're soloing it'll be harder to handle them. Group events that are higher level to you are a great place to rack up kills with assistance though.
Unlock all your abilities with your weapons, sure, but find 2 that work for the playstyle you enjoy and stick with them. I personally think it's more important to be really good at a couple weapons than to be the mediocre master of everything. As long as you keep one ranged or defensive option, and one high dps option, you will do well. My guardian goes greatsword/mace & focus - Haunt's guardian goes 2H hammer/sword & shield - my thief goes 2 daggers/2 guns and his goes sword & gun/shortbow. We're both pretty good at what we do. You can literally take whatever playstyle blows your hair back and run with it.
Unlock ALL the skill points on a map, and buy all the skills. Save for those elite skills, but once you have them, seriously, unlock everything. I'm not a fan of traps on my ranger, but I unlocked them because there's some instances in the higher level where a ranger laying rows of traps makes all the difference.
Sell all your greens and blues to vendors. Salvage everything white, and all the salvage drops. Sell the crafting mats you're not using on the TP.
Don't buy karma armor unless you REALLY love the look of it and want to keep it with transmutation stones. Save your karma for high levels. Keep your armor up to date with cheap greens from the TP, and drops. Lean toward toughness and vit on your gear when you can.
Man, that was rambly. But that's my advice. I know it kinda LOOKS like work, but when I'm doing it, it doesn't FEEL like work. It's just how I enjoy the game and make bank doing itI love exploring, I love picking crap up, I love events and 100%ing a zone, so luckily I seem to be naturally geared toward doing the things the game rewards.
Now do Hunter specific advice. -
Quote:Actually I think the failure lay in the simple fact that this game never had a large enough consumer base to make advertising here worth the effort.Well, no. The idea could have been okay with the failure lying in the execution. We've seen NCSoft fail in execution repeatedly.
At best an advertisement might reach 150,000 people here, but in another format advertisors can reach millions.
