I can't salute Statesman. He's dead.
-
I find it ironic Zwil of all people doesn't want the beta testers to spoil anything.
-
How is War Witch in that picture? I thought she was dead too. Or well her spirit can't leave Pocket D.
-
Quote:Well that is until he gets resurrected a year from now. Oh don't you know? Mender Silos will send us back in time to prevent it all from happening.
Paragon City will never see the bright flash as he swoops by against a blue sky once more, never hear him rally us in the face of an uncertain future again, never fight side by side with him to stand for what we believe in our hearts.
Ok ok... Seriously.
You have a funeral and don't invite my hero? I mean she was there, fighting Wade for goodness sakes. She had to stay there until the rest of the Phalanx finally showed up. Don't you know how traumatic that was, watching the big States walk into an obvious trap to get fried, knowing she could do absolutely nothing to stop it? And to have him laying there, lifeless at her feet, after fighting off an Aspect of Rulaaru? And no where is she in this picture. And to make matters worst Positron, you can't even remember her name. She was the very hero who Maria Jenkins recruited to rescue Statesman to begin with. The Freedom Phalanx have some very selective memories. And I should know, being inside Psyche's brain.
Seriously for real now... Penelope... why'd you pick out such a skimpy hero costume? And worn to Statesman's funeral no less. Where's the little girl I saved way back when in Faultline? Your going to give King Clockwork brain seizures.
OK ok ok... really seriously now... The eulogy was ok despite the grammatical errors (( which i can't complain about seeing as I probably have a few)) and I like the picture besides it obviously advertising many of the new costumes players can now use. (( Available now in the Paragon Market. )) Maybe less Longbow though and more Signature heroes.
For the record though, it would have been cool to have done this funeral in game. Hell, it would have been even better to have attended the funeral only to have Stephan show up with his gang af Arachnos and have a good superpowered slugfest in honor of Buckethead.
But I guess we all can't get what we want. -
It's a cool idea but not worth that price tag.

I'm kinda wondering how we're supposed to get Incarnate Powers now. The whole thing starts with you going through the Alpha slot arc, which if you have done it, knowthat you have to talk to Statesman at one point. Then the well talks through him to you as well. They could give someone else the Incarnate power, but they can't give it to a newly cured Hero1 because well... you have to fight him later on in the Arc. So unless they change that whole Arc as well... and hopefully don't give us some random dude to talk to... then things aren't going to make sense.
List of in game things directly impacted by Statesman's removal from game:
Statesman on boat in Indy Port.
Statesman TF
Removal of Statesman from Fort Trident.
Alpha Slot Arc changed.
Maria Jenkins Arc changed.
Agree To Mender Silos Mission
Villian side encounters with Statesman-
Recluse Victory
Lord Recluse Strike Force
Alan Desslock Mission- Defeat Statesman
Defeat Stateman in Mender Silos Strike Force.
The Badges you get along the way for doing all of these things.
That's.... alot of in game stuff to change there folks. That's not even going into what he indirectly affects. There are some missions that sometimes say "Statesman would do this... but he is off taking care of this... so we need you to.." as an example.

One of your most iconic figures in the game dies, you'd think it would have been better written.
Stage 1: Statesman arrives to confront Wade. You show up as well but Statesman asks you to let him arrest Wade himself. You tell Statesman it's a trap. Wade summons a whole bunch of Rulaaru and you and Statesman work together to fight them off.
Stage 2: Wade traps Statesman. While he struggles you have to deal with Rudalak. When you finish Rudalak, Statesman's death scene happens.
Stage 3: Wade attacks you but retreats after a few hits with the excuse that he is still adjusting to his new powers. You have to inspect Statesman's body to end the mission. With his final breaths he asks you to continue the fight for him.
Something like this would have been a better scene. What we got was just lazy. Worst yet it was spoiled on the forums.
There's another issue I'd like to address. The increasing morbidity that keeps showing up in these arcs. So far we've had Miss Liberty-Statesman's daughter murdered. Then we've had Sister Psyche put in a coma. We've had Malaise die. Then we've had Statesman himself die. All of this in the span of a couple of months. Worst yet... your character/hero couldn't prevent any of this from happening. -
And Uh... How exactly are we supposed to become Incarnates now? The whole Alpha slot storyline revolves around not only talking to him, but having the well talk to you through him. On top of that you have to fight a shade of him in the beginning mission. The whole Arc actually revolves around him in a way.
Then you have the Maria Jenkins Arc. We can't very well save Statesman from Tryant.... since Statesman is dead.
Not to mention how many other references to him there are throughout the game's content.(( Poor Penny Preston's gonna need a new shirt. )) You just can't kill off someone so centrally integral to the game's storyline, without missing all the small minor details.
I'm not even going to mention how many AE Storylines that probably involve him either, but that's not really a factor here.
Sorry but the whole idea is just idiotic. -
What characters did she play? I don't know the Global personally but that doesn't mean I haven't played with her.
My condolences though. It's always sad to lose a member of the community. It seems like she had an impact on a whole lot of people, which I guess, is a tribute to her memory. -
Not exactly sure where I would post this but i guess this is as good a thread as any to do it. And since this topic is about Statesman buying it anyway... it's not like anyone will have it spoiled for them now.
So... What did I get from the actual scene where Statesman dies? To tell the truth...not a whole helluva lot. In all honestly I got more from Statesman's daughter dying then I got from him.
Maybe that's because of how easily he was defeated. He just stepped in the circle... and was killed. I would have liked it a lot better if the scene had let my hero actually participate in the battle instead of just watching it and getting the leftovers. Why not have your toon and Statesman fight together for a bit, taking on some of Wade's minions, drawing Statesman into position as he performs the ritual? At least YOU would have had something to do and Statesman would have gone down fighting. The way this was done just seemed cheap and blase. For the way it was advertised, I was expecting alot more.
Point #2: These SSAs have become increasingly morbid as well. In the span of a few months we've had three major lore characters die. I'm assuming there is some light at the end of the tunnel but the increasing morbitity of these arcs have made playing them somewhat depressing. If that's your aim then congratulations.
I hope your not painting yourselves in a corner either. Statesman is pretty much integral to every part of this game somewhat. With him connected to Tyrant, Imperious, Riechsman, Recluse and goodness knows who else, it's not going to be easy to fill the void. That might require changing a helluva lot of Storylines. If the purpose for this is to give your hero the chance to be in the spotlight, then you might want to start doing that by making our toons integral to how the stories play out.
-
If anyone decides to play my arcs right now.... er.... don't.
My OP was recently corrupted and had to be reformatted, but the result was the loss of many custom toons. So if you play my arcs and run into trouble... yeah that's why. -
Hey there Devs. Just kinda wondering if you guys will ever implement the new playable powersets purchasable on the Paragon Market (( ridiculously overpriced I might add)) into the AE so that custom Enemies will be able to use them?
-
Frankly speaking, I find your first joke to be somewhat ironic. If you were to go into Oro for instance and do the "Alpha Slot" arc, and then read what the Mender actually tells you afterwards while your asking about information about Incarnate Powers and what not... There's some pretty interesting information about certain people..
-
Quote:I'm sure NCSoft thanks you for frivilously giving them your money/Paragon points. We hope you continue to support their five minutes of work each week to create overpriced, re-skinned and rehashed items sold on the Paragon Market.Aaand purchased.
Thank you for this quality product to which I will continue to support.
I mean why do people just blindly buy this stuff? -
I have a toon that would love that carpet but yeah I'm not spending 600 points on it. One Vanity power isn't worth those kinds of points. I'd consider the Rocketboard too if the colors could be customizable.
The fireworks are... well.... what would we use them for? They'd be good for the 4th of July or special occasions, but New Year's is over. -
The major difference between this and comic books though is of course this is an actual game.
Even then, killing off major characters never yielded anything positive for those companies. Superman was brought back to life, Bruce Wayne's back was healed, Spider-man's clone was replaced again by the original and Captain America was brought back to life.
The difference here is that if you do kill off Statesman, there's alot of things you have to change in the game and by then you'll be forced to bring him back again (( cause he's your iconic figure who people identify to this game.))
And by the way Zwil... it doesn't really matter how he dies, the fact that you guys just decided to outright tell us means we'll be expecting it and no amount of shock value you guys think you'll give us will replace the shock of us playing the arc and saying "Holee... they killed States?"
Again, post Spoiler Tags. -
Why would you spoil this storyline by posting the answer? Why did we patiently wait to find the answer to "who will die?" week after week simply so You could post it up on here? Couldn't you have revealed that in game when you released the signature arc?! Couldn't you have at LEAST POSTED A SPOILER TAG!?!
Sorry but that was a brain dead move and I feel robbed. Good going Zwil. -
They only have a limited amount of weapons choices simple because they're gonna make more and thus ask you to spend more money/points to get them.
Many of the items on the market are overpriced. Just look at the dog... people complained about that being way too much. The fact that you have to pay for a powerset and then pay extra for the weapons (( after the sale ends)) just adds on to that fact.
Really powersets don't even have any business being in the Paragon Market for VIPs, they should just be included with the subscription we already pay them. (( and no.. getting 400 points a month for being VIP doesn't mean you get powersets for free. ))
And I don't believe they listen to any of the players critiques anyway, the dog is still the same price, the women are still objectified in the Gunslinger pack, etc. So it makes me even wonder what's even the point of posting critiques. -
I'm kinda wondering why you didn't put more costume/Power Set bundles on sale (( not that powersets belong on the market anyway)) but oh well.
-
Quote:When you pay a subscription, it is basically a deal between you and the gaming company to have permission to use their servers for a period of time. When the time ends you pay for more time. So If the game ends that deal ends.
Okay, how is that any different from paying for any MMO in the first place? If the game shuts down, everything you paid for vanishes.
Be it subscription fees, box sales or microtransactions, you're paying for the experience. Once it's over, the only thing you get to keep is the memories. This is neither unusual nor unsavory. -

Quote:Yep, I know. But everyone justified it by saying they didn't mind giving them more money as a way of supporting them. And those Packs just kept coming...till they decided to switch to this format. So now that's what we got. If people are upset it's like this now, then they shouldn't have supported those packs and what they were trying to do.That would be when the wedding pack was announced, and I and others did realize this was where the game was heading and said so. It's nice knowing I was right the whole time...as usual.
Which really makes me try to understand why people think this way. It's ok... I'm giving them money because I want to support them. I don't believe though that this game or the developers were ever really starving for cash.
Then there are the arguments that we get alot more now. But I have to ask... what are you really getting? Sure there's new stuff every week, but hey you gotta buy it. And there's no way everyone can get it all.
Don't really mean to sound preachy though, if folks like the way things are now then great.
For the record, I haven't bought a single thing in the shop.

Quote:Most MMOs with microtransactions don't so completely lose their minds that they forget to make backups of their game systems. Conversely, game developers not distracted by supporting microtransactions seem to make the same mistake: the linked article mentions another game where a similar lack of backups (and other dumb errors) set the game back substantially. -
Came here to express my feedback. Hopefully it will be read.
Saw the dog. Was impressed by the dog. Saw the dog's price tag.
Yeah, 500 PPs for a cosmetic item like a pet is way too much. You can buy a costume bundle for 400pps.... 100 less then for this one item. While I think the dog is pretty impressive and would be cool to use for RP purposes, it's not worth the current price tag.
Things like this need to be 200pps or less. Considering it's one item-like an emote- I would even hesitate to say it should be 100PPs or less. Hopefully you guys will see some sense.
Oh and here's another thing that bothers me- Powers should not be on the market. Well not power sets anyway. The reason I say this is simple- Since we have bought the game and the VIPs pay a monthly fee these features of the game should be readily available to any and all players. Powers are in my opinion a core part of City of Heroes and don't belong here. If you want to charge for anything else, I have no problem with that.
Also to the players: Blindly buying in game items got us to the point we are in. The moment the Devs announced the micro-transaction, was the day we all should have realized that this was where the game was headed. Now the company is more interested in making items for the market then actually fixing and testing the issues in game... which led the sloppy patch we just had.
If you think the micro-transaction is really all that great, read this and think about it.

Lord recluse decided to send his new weapon into the heart of Paragon City. Luckily our brave heroes were there to drive back the ferocious beast.
Thanks to Dev Frietag for the fun evening. -
One of the other side effects for changing the UI size is that effects all of it. This means your trays also get smaller as well as your insp window. But I really don't see why we have to take such drastic measures anyways just so we can see.
