    ...and the race is on, who'll post "Server's up" first and actually be right about it!

    I might not even login today...
  2. Very nice!

    Been playing with Daz 3D a little since yesterday... Don't suppose you know where I can find a cat tail and ears do you?

    And the occasional monty python script too by the sound of it

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Monty Python! Pah! I blow my nose in their general direction, the stupid bunch of ker-***-ets! Their mothers were hamsters and their fathers smelled of elderberries!

    Now, don't sully my comic genius with their names any more, you silly English person, or I shall have to taunt you!

    640k of RAM?! Bah, I remember the days when we had 8k and 16k if we were lucky (and after a great big soldering job)!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    8K!! LUXURY!! I used to DREAM of having 8K of RAM, I did!

    I had to make do with 1K, AND I had to build the thing myself, AND it used to reset itself randomly, usually just before you saved a shedload of machine code you'd spent the last 6 hours writing!

    And if it DID manage to save the code, you could guarantee that the code wouldn't actually WORK next time you reloaded it!

    Bored Phase

    I'm currently going through a bored phase too... Have been for a few weeks now in fact... Hell, even my posting on the forums has dropped off a fair bit.

    TBH, I'm not 100% that the release of i14 is going to get me out of it either... I need something new to play, or I need something old to be given a new coat of paint and the kiss of life applying to it.

  9. You've fallen into the old problem if the desktop shortcut not being created properly.

    All you need to do is remake your shortcut, and this will work fine for the US version as well (I do this too).

    Look inside your \City of Heroes game folder, you will find a few EXE's. You need make a shortcut on your desktop to Cohupdater.EU.exe for the EU version, and Cohupdater.exe for the US version.

    Note: When running for the US version it might ask you to reinstall the game. I've had problems with this before and solved it thusly.

    1. Allow it to start the download, to a DIFFERENT folder to your EU installation. After a few seconds, stop it and DELETE the installation folder it just made. This will have created the needed registry keys to run the US version.
    2. Make sure the shortcut is still pointing to the original location.
    3. Start REGEDIT to edit the registry, and go to the following registry key.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crypric\Coh\

    4. Find the key value Installation Directory and set it to your current one (you can copy it from the EUCoh registry folder if you wish).
    5. Restart the game from the original shortcut. All should now work fine for EU and US versions. You should only have a problem when the US updates before the EU, which is quite rare.
  10. Just hold down the Windows key and press R to bring up the Run dialog.

    And you're welcome! Helping others is what some of us do best.
  11. Hi CommPlex and welcome back to the game.

    According to Dell, your Inspiron 530 contains either of the following graphics...

    * Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
    * 128MB ATI® RadeonTM HD 2400 Pro graphics card
    * 256MB ATI® RadeonTM HD 2600 XT graphics card
    * 256MB ATI® RadeonTM HD 3650 graphic card

    If it's the 3100, this is an abysmal graphics chipset and is only any good for running Windows itself, and business programs. It's rubbish for gaming. My laptop has the same chipset, and whilst it does run CoH, it's slow and ugly as hell.

    If it's either of the others, it should run CoH fine, though you should update your video drivers.

    To find out which, click on the Start menu, go to Run, and type in DXDIAG. That will take you into the DXDiag program and that should identify your video card.

    Everything else about the Dell seems fine though.

    Oh, one more thing. RAM optimizers are a complete and utter lie, so don't bother to run one. They claim to be able to get back RAM, but not one of them is actually capable of doing any more than the RAM management already built in to Vista, and in fact, usually degrade performance as they try to deallocate RAM that the OS is actually USING.

    Vista's memory model is totally different to earlier versions of Windows, and it's MEANT to be "using" as much as the available free RAM as it can... To speed the OS itself up! This "used" RAM is actually just having programs cashed into it, ready for use, and will be freed up instantly if any other actually running programs require it. Anyone who tells you any different is an idiot and should NOT be listened to, as they clearly don't have a clue.
  12. Hmm.. I dunno Birdy. It sounds to me like the two groups of 15 actually take up the entire mission worth of spawns, so that nothing at all will spawn UNTIL the glowie is clicked. Someone needs to test this... Anyone reading from home and has the test server setup?

    Real men wrote AIs on their 1k of ZX80 memory - 64k was for the weak and wasteful!

    Then I must be a real REAL man then, as not only did I write my AI's in 1k of ZX80 memory, I also BUILT my ZX80 from that homebuild kit they did... At aged 11...

    Great article btw, JD. Props to you.

    @Devs, Use compression!
  14. Hey Mr ?, looks like the image you're using it just too big. Try resizing it down to the proper size (80x80 pixels).

    City Scoop.

    I'd rather she cracked the whip on getting us the new forum software all sorted out before trying to add stuff to this already creaky one...
  16. I would take one look at such coding, think "WTH is that gibberish?", and choose a different arc...

    Sorry, but... no. Silly idea really... What's wrong with English?
