    I concur with Razor.
A game is meant to be fun. By and large, it still suceeds in that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I may be jaded by my length of time in the game, but to me, less risk due to the minimal death penalty means less "rush", which equates to less fun and thus a shorter game lifespan for newer players.

CO has a great death penalty just implemented. Shame I can't actually mention what it is though as it'd be a great way of handling things.

    it is pointless, it's grind.
and no, as long as there is only a hald on the fun, i keep saying what i like to say.
until xp is made better, just deal with it, bare with me, see it to no end.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know... Try as I might, I can't actually work out what you're trying to say, there... It's just... gibberish.

It may take a little time to perfect but using your brain is an L1 power

    [/ QUOTE ]

True. But many people seem to get that power permanently debuffed in the tutorial.

FFM you keep referring to your PB getting the debt badges very late on but by the point you get a PB you've already went thru the learning experience of playing another AT to 50 so your already playing smarter. How was your first character for deaths/debt?

    [/ QUOTE ]

My PB doesn't HAVE any debt badges. I already mentioned my first char though, my blaster. He didn't get his first debt badge until in the 40's.

Although technically, he wasn't my FIRST first character. My very first was a tanker in beta. Got him to level 24 before the end of beta and he didn't have any debt badges either.

It's all about play style. If you love to charge right and get stuck in to the fight without care or thought, then you're going to get debt. If you take care, fight a bit slower, and use tactics instead of brute force, then you won't get debt.

I'm not saying the former play style is wrong. If you have fun playing like that, then great! I'm just saying that it's a play style that has consequences.

EDIT: I also have a fire/ice blaster at level 50 who doesn't have any debt badges either! To me, it's a "badge" of honour!

Most Tank deaths I have seen since I started playing this game were the result of two factors:
    1) The Tank getting overconfident/sloppy and taking on more than its primary could handle.
    2) The rest of the team not supporting the Tank properly. (Too many times I've seen defenders blasting away when they should have been watching over their team's buffs)

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is why I love my triform so much.

I keep an eye on the tank. If he's in trouble, I'll shunt over to dwarf form and take the heat off him so that he can recover.
I keep an eye on the team debuffer, and if he's in trouble, throw a heal at him.
The rest of the time, I'm busy creaming bad guys and making the rest of the team wonder if it was worth them turning up.

You have to figure out how an AT is meant to be played and suddenly you die a lot less often. Nothing can protect you from that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Try the Quit Team button.

To paraphrase myself last time I was on such a team...

"I have better things to do than die for you idiots."

    > You have quit your team.

I disagree with the pair of you it was rather easy to get into a lot of debt in the old days and i was a tank so my ability to avoid or withdraw from combat were rather limited when tanking for a team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My debt badge-less triform PB disagree's with you. It's all about playstyle. If a tanker is getting smeared then he either took on more than his defenses could handle, or his team aren't doing their jobs.

Ah, but a modest debuff, even a 25% one, can be easily overcome by popping a few insps. It still makes it a hindrance, but one that's overcomable.

There IS precedent in CoH for this idea... That lab map with the destroyable buff/debuff stations.
  9. I suspect these resolution limitations are being caused because CoH isn't really running natively on your Mac's, it's wrapped up inside an emulator that's akin to WINE on Linux.

Having lots of experience with various types of emulation over the years, I can tell you that it will NEVER run as well as running it natively, not matter how good the emulator is.

Why not simply add a duration death penalty effect?

For example a stackable 10% reduction in HP and Recharge for 1 hour of Game Time.

Play like a reckless noob and you get nerfed for an hour. Continue to play like a reckless noob and we nerf you into oblivion!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Something like that is a better idea IMO. Get right of XP debt completely and implement a mid-duration debuff instead. An hour is too long though. I think a 10 minute 25% debuff to damage and HP is sufficient. Not sure about stackable though...

but just to be clear i have no desire to see debt return to teh point where you could be in debt for several levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you were in debt for several levels in those days, the problem wasn't with the debt levels, but with how you were playing your character... The devs only nerfed it because suicidal players kept moaning about it.

My PB still doesn't have her first debt badge... And I've been playing her since June 2005.

    Fix Debt

    [ QUOTE ]
Debt, before the Devs actually changed it, was so much so that it could be crippling. Certain missions are such that you WILL die on them. When playing solo, especially, debt was particularly unpleasant for the likes of Tankers and Blasters, at least I found it that way. My AR/ICe blaster languished at lvl 14 for a long, long time, because of the old debt system, whereby a particularly bad string of missions left him in debtsville.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sorry, but... hogwash!

My first character, an energy blaster, hit level 50 in June 2005; WAY before debt got nerfed. He didn't get his first debt badge until the mid 40's, and STILL only has one debt badge.

Blasters in permadebt only happened because people played them as if they were invulnerable. You have range for a REASON! Stay out of melee!

It could be worse... Anyone want to try out the death penalty from FFXI? I'd laugh my butt off if all the farmers ended up delevelling back to level 1!

Ah, you just can't quit on us, can ya Floaty?

    Damnit.
    Oh, I didnt say anything

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sad, but true. I tried, but I just couldn't keep away...

Mind you... My stated reason was because of the devs never telling us what's coming, especially with CO on the horizon. As they've now done so (in a limited way, more is to come Soon™ ), my reason for leaving... left!
  15. The last time someone took out a Rikti mothership over Paragon, it landed on the high rent district of White Plains, destroying the entire region and killing thousands. Nice shot, States. Jerk.

Do we really want another one?

    [ QUOTE ]
    Cost cutting perhaps?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. Naivety. CoH was Cryptics first ever game, and they just didn't think that players would want to customize powers. A very short sighted decision that resulted in them baking power colours into the animations in such a way that adding customisation is VERY difficult as it stands.

However, do not expect things to remain that way forever.

Level pacts being broken by account inactivity is indeed confirmed as stated in the corresponding Knowledge base article here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considering it's REALLY EASY to go inactive for a few days, such as with the recent problems with Maestro, or people who use time cards not being able to get the things, I consider this to be a REALLY poor way to manage the issue.

At the very least, it should have a few weeks grace period before breaking the pact. What if someone's account goes inactive whilst they're on holiday?

Not good customer service. Not good at ALL.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Apparently accounts that get unsubsidised break all their level pacts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hmm... Is that official confirmed?

That seriously sucks, if that's the case.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

No word on the level cap, but GR does sound interesting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The level cap question has been answered many many times by the devs. That answer is no, they have no plans to increase the level cap. Instead, they are looking towards other ways to allow players to increase their level 50 characts abilities.

One "possible" method is through the use of "universal enhancements slots" which could be used to enhance your character overrall, rather than individual powers. This is NOT confirmed as happening, though.

To the OP, welcome back. Much has changed, much has not. Hope you have fun.
  21. I know it's a "bump" of an old thread, but I've just hit this exact issue and was wondering if it was ever resolved?

My account was canceled for just over two weeks, and on logging back in the other day on a pact character, I got the message that the Leveling Pact had been broken. I've spoken with the other player and she says she DID log that char in once during my break period, but doesn't remember getting that message or doing any missioning with it...

Goodbye to GhostRaptor, One of our best team leads in my honest opinion.

  23. It's a bug. The price is wrong on the store, and you're being charged the wrong price too. It's showing Euro's for pounds. One would have thought they'd have fixed this by now, slackers.
