I tried Opera once a year or two ago. It wasn't able to see my internet connection on a fresh install, which is bloody odd seeing as it's a LAN... Haven't bothered with it since.
Amusingly, their latest version, Opera Unite, is having some quite humongous teething problems in beta...
-
OK, there's a certain amount of hyperbole in my "no one" remark, but they have an insignificant market share, which IS sufficient to say "no one".

Take a look for yourself.

It has even less users than Safari, which is a dreadful browser.

I was under the impression that this applied to OEM copies and that the supplier has the option to include and or all browsers with Windows and it is believed likely that they will go down the line of supplying at least the 3 main browsers - IE, Firefox and Chrome, Lynx may get a look in if enough people say something.
[/ QUOTE ]
OEM's will indeed be able to preinstall a browser for you, but what you get is up to the OEM. Considering the bloatware garbage they usually install, expect a REALLY bad browser.
Retail copies in the EU will ALL be the "e" version, without any browser at all. -
No download manager, alas. Still works mostly the same way, although Windows Update is now it's own program and now a browser page.
I've just been checking MS's guidance on installing a browser on IE8. It appears as if it may NOT actually appear in Windows Update after all, which is unfortunate. For anyone wondering, the page is here.

TBH, I think it's an unfortunate decision for MS to make, but I can't really say as I blame them. If you want someone to blame, email Opera. THEY are the ones who brought this about because no one uses their rubbish software on desktops. -
I didn't, in fact, make ANY guarantees. Read my post again, I challenge you to find the word 'guarantee' anywhere in it.
However, I've been running the Win 7 beta's since they started coming out (and not the public beta either), and have never had any problems. My current build is the last one they released to beta testers (newer than the RC), and it works flawlessly. Paragon Studios would REALLY have to bugger about with CoH to make it not work perfectly on it.
As for Firefox. Good luck downloading it without a browser. You'll have to download it on another PC or get it before you update, and you can do the same for IE8 too, so it was pretty much a pointless comment really. -

Won't have: Internet Explorer 8 (EU Regulations)
[/ QUOTE ]
The bold bit is not correct. Win 7 will be missing IE 8 because Microsoft have CHOSEN to release it that way in the UE. The EU commission have made no decision yet about IE8 in Win 7. MS are merely pre-empting them so EU Regulations have zero to do with it.
It's quite likely that when the EU Commission DO hand down their decision, it will be to tell MS to include a screen where they can choose from a selection of different browsers. This is what MS are trying to prevent by dropping the browser altogether (and I don't blame them either). -

Thankfully Win7 is NOT an upgraded Vista. Win7 actually works and does what it claims thus far lol
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong. Windows 7 is built on the same kernel as Vista. It's just been greatly optimized and improved, but it's STILL the Vista codebase.
[ QUOTE ]
So for all intensive purposes it will work, however there may be certain twitchyness for a bit as NC may need to do some updates themselves to the client to make 100% compliant.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no "twitchyness". CoH runs perfectly under Windows 7 and there are no driver issues for any mainstream hardware. Problems MAY arise if you have very rare or very old hardware, but if that's the case, you're not likely to be upgrading to Windows 7. -

Everyone will be called to action, will you answer the call?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah. I'll be washing my hair, then doing my nails... Maybe watch a bit of TV after, or read a book. Rikti are boring, and wimps.
-
[ QUOTE ]
be nice if another invasion event of some sort happened from time to time as well , maybe a diffrent faction in the game, is plenty mobs they could have doing spontaionus attacks on zones
[/ QUOTE ]
They do. Rikti raids get triggered by a mothership raid, and the Zombie attacks get triggered by... hmm.. Was that ever worked out? -
[ QUOTE ]
Look at the plus side, will change atlas broadcast from "lf AE farm" to "[censored] is going on?! They're attacking me!!!"
[/ QUOTE ]
You're forgetting that it ALSO turns Atlas into a slideshow.
I dunno... Over a year of these raids and they STILL haven't sorted out the dreadful performance issues they cause...
-
OK, delete any and all .majorpatch, .checksum and .prv files and let me know if that works.
-
Ummm... Yay?
Really... It's getting a bit old now. Can we have something new please? Maybe even a bit of story progression? -
[ QUOTE ]
Good point, Coolio.
Another possibility that springs to mind is that your firewall software might have a block on the latest version of the .exe (sometimes happens after a patch).
[/ QUOTE ]
That wouldn't cause the checksumming. It'd just leave him at Connecting... -
Someone mention me?

If deleting the checksum file isn't working, then it sounds like there may be a temporary file stuck in the folder that's causing it. I'm not at my home PC right now, so can't check what the file extension might be, but if the OP could post a list of all files in his CityOfHeroes game folder (not the sub-directories), I might be able to see what's causing it.
T'is an odd problem. Deleting the checksum file SHOULD sort it...
You could also try downloading just the EU CoHUpdater again, there's a sticky at the top of this forum that shows you how. -
Why would you want it anyway? It's massively out of date, hasn't even got the CoV costume pieces let along all the new ones released since then, and buggy as all hell...

Wonder how long before you can buy costume slots, in-game unlockables, maybe even new AT's or powersets, in the store too...
[/ QUOTE ]
Wonder if this is pure conjecture?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well duh. Of course it's conjecture, but I can quiet easily see them taking this route. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wooo for the whiners, go cry me a river.
[/ QUOTE ]
My comment and concerns have nothing to do with the actual slots themselves, and more to do with the deeper ramifications behind more micro-transactions.
We've lately seen less and less high quality content in the free issue updates other than some QoL stuff, and more and more "shineys" being moved to a pay model. It was said by people a year or so ago, when the first booster pack and the character slots appeared, that it was merely the tip of the iceberg; but many people poo poohed that.
Seems they were right though, doesn't it?
Wonder how long before you can buy costume slots, in-game unlockables, maybe even new AT's or powersets, in the store too...
Thin edge of the wedge, folks. It used to be that the free issue updates were massive things absolutely loaded with content and new mechanics; but that seems to be dropping off very sharply of late... -
Oh look. More microtransactions. There's a surprise. Not.

Here's an example of running "modern" software on obsolete hardware.

^ Pretty much everything Damz says, really. I lots my enthusiasm months ago. I now tend to let my sub lapse for a few weeks at a time, before I feel like I want to post on here again, and in fact, I even post a LOT less than I used too. But I don't play. I haven't played a mission since 4 days after the launch of the MA, and that was an MA mission...
All because, really, there's been nothing really NEW to do for absolute ages. All the missions are just variations of the same theme. You do them a couple of times, and then it's "Yeah, next!". What we really need is a new mechanic to the game, something to get people interested. Depending on how they go about doing this going rogue business, it MAY rekindle my old enthusiasm.
Power customisation? That's pretty neat, but it's not new content or a new game mechanic. If i16 doesn't contain anything more than that, a lot of people will, once again, take another break. -

Look at the US, where players can even get deleted characters restored!

Quick get the worms back into the can!!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Dont make me get started on that again, now that was a REAL experiment
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly, so you of all people know full well that the US operate under different rules to us. What's a "no no" here is often a "yes yes" over there. -
[ QUOTE ]
Dont know about everyone else but i understood it, it was just a complete waste of time wasnt it.
What did he think peoples reaction was going to be? It didnt need a so called study to know that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Knowing the likely result and actually seeing what REALLY happens are not always the same. The point here was to provoke some kind of reaction by making himself unwelcome, and seeing what actually happened. In that, it's an interesting experiment, but I know full well that had I been an unwilling part of it, I'd be absolutely LIVID once the truth came out.
[ QUOTE ]
Actually it is prohibited by the rules and can be construed as griefing, Xanthus got a ban for droning as did someone else who's name escapes me now.
[/ QUOTE ]
Knowing Xanthus, are you sure he wasn't banned for something else, like being Xanthus?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist that!)
The thing is, he WAS reported and he wasn't banned. As no action was taken, what he was doing clearly wasn't against the game rules. Also, you know full well that the US and EU servers frequently seem to operate under different sets of rules. Look at the US, where players can even get deleted characters restored!
