    Newsflash!

(( As I'm not around this evening, packing for a trip to Disney, the following is a newsflash report that will be aired this evening! ))

    Newsflash

As the music fades, the image on the screen changes to a smartly dressed man sat at a desk.

"Good evening. News is coming in of an explosion in downtown Galaxy City and reports of a large fire. Our roving reporter, Ted Hansen, is on the scene.

As the newsreader speaks, the scene changes to a view of a large fire raging through a building. In the near distance, the Yellow Line station is clearly visible and as the camera focuses on the reporter, the newsreaders voice is heard again.

"Ted, can you tell us what's going on?"

The reporter glances briefly over his shoulder, at the firemen fighting the inferno and the large number of police trying to keep the crowd at bay, before turning back to the camera.

"We're not sure exactly what happened, but some 15 minutes ago, at about 6pm, a large explosion was heard in the clothing store behind me, and eye witnesses report the building was engulfed in flames seconds later."

Behind the reporter, the firemen suddenly start to back away from the fire. A man in a red hat, apparently the fire chief, was waving them back and, over the noise of sirens and roaring of the fire, his voice came over the airwaves faintly, "Back men, it's gonna go!"

As the firemen began to back off, a dull boom came from the burning building, and the flames leapt higher than ever. Ducking, the reporter looks back to camera.

"The fire seemed to start not long after the close of business today, but the fire chief tells me they've no idea if there's anyone inside. From the looks of it though, if anyone's still inside, there's little chance they're still alive."

As the reporter spoke, a woman dressed in red and yellow suddenly appeared in a flash of light and started to move rapidly towards the fire.

With a glance at the heroine, the reporter said, "Looks like we have a hero on the scene, hopefully she'll be able to do something. I'll try to get a quick interview..." The reporter turned and moved towards the heroine, the camera jiggling as the cameraman followed.

As the reported neared the heroine, the fire chief called out to keep clear as the building was on the verge of collapse, the look she gave over her shoulder stopped both the fire chief and the reporter in their tracks. It was a look of horror, and desperation. She then turned back to the fire and a bubble of energy flickered into being around her as she plunged headlong into the raging inferno.

Surprised, the reporter turns back to the camera, "Well... It looks like she's going to check the building for any occupants, but I don't see how anyone could still be in there, not alive..."

The reporters’ voice trails off as the camera suddenly focuses on a shape emerging from the burning building, it was the costume clad heroine, and she was carrying someone in her arms.
Quickly, she moved to the paramedics and laid the still, silvery form on a gurney, before turning and heading back to the burning building. This time, however, the fire chief reached out a hand to stop her, "No, you can't miss, the building is about to go!"

With a look of desperate determination, the heroine pushes forward as she throws the fire chief aside, heading back to the building. Before she could enter however, a dull roar came from the inferno and the building collapsed in on itself, knocking the heroine back, off her feet, and causing the gathered crowd to roar in surprise and surge backwards as the flames leapt ever higher.

A look of horror washed over the heroines’' face... Focusing closely on her as she slowly climbed to her knees, tears pouring down her face, the sensitive mic on the camera picked up a single whispered word, "Ellie!"

In the background, more heroes began to arrive, and take up battling the blaze. As hero after hero used their abilities to fight back the fire, the camera stayed focused on the heroine knelt on the ground, her face slack as tears smeared her sooty face. Slowly, the camera began to pan to take in the rest of the scene as a paramedic approached the heroine and, putting his arm around her shoulders, helped her to her feet and led her away.

Abruptly, the image cuts out and the scene shifts back to the newsroom. The anchorman man clears his throat, looking somewhat shocked. "We seem to have lost the picture there for a moment ladies and gentlemen, but we'll have more news as soon as we can restore the feed from our cameraman on the scene."
  2. Either as a deliberate action, or by collateral damage... Given the intensity of some fights, someone WILL get killed from time to time.. Be it an NPC, or a PC.

Please note, I'm not referring to it in a game mechanics way, or even how Cryptic want us to RP, where no-one ever dies. I mean with how players RP in missions and the like, and around GG too, where sometimes, characters die, and so do the innocent.
  3. A post Shannon made to the Deterioration of tolerance has had me thinking, and rather than hijack that thread, I'd thought I'd break it out to one of it's own as it's an interesting post...

    Here it is:

    [ QUOTE ]

This thread is about deterioration of tolerance and is in a roleplayer thread, and i do have a different sense of roleplay, it is this sense of roleplay that i have to find in people before moving deeper into it.

My sense of roleplay is this:

    I am playing a hero

thats it, and what do heroes do?

well they look out for people even those in their team

    who are my heroes?

well pretty much decent police officers and nurses

    why?

because they are not like superman or captain marvel who have a fight in a city knocking down buildings killing people in an effort to be the stronger. Some coh people would react watching it by saying wow thats what my hero should be like. Any hero having a dangerous battle to civilians by not taking the fight elsewhere with another hero over a stupid matter is a villain imo. Real heroes imo try to settle things with minimal effect on innocent bystanders or aid people.

In short superman and captain marvel in the cartoon i watched are muppets

I prefer superman from smallville or spiderman from the latest movies they care about their friends and realise the consequences to their actions alot better.

Leads me back to people not knowing their powers well enough to know the effects of their powers in a team and how they may work against another persons power to the detriment of the team.

When do i become a roleplayer?

when i see some real roleplaying.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He raised some good points. Being a hero is about more than just beating up the bad guys. One needs to be mindfull of the innocent around you too!

Now, this game doesn't support collateral damage, and the civilians are all but invulnerable, as far as game mechanics go; but in the more fluid environment of RP, this need not be the case. Taking that further, how much care do you apply in RP missions, not to actually end up killing the mobs you're fighting?

So, how do you people deal with this kind of thing? Do you consider it at all, do you disregard it, or do your heroes exercise extreme care?

My main, for example, had a crisis of concience a couple of months ago. She was on an SG mission, (Roleplayed), and during that mission, Carnies died... This was a step too far for her, and as a consequence, she destroyed her hero license and retired from the duty. She found she just could NOT be involved in situations where people may get killed any longer; even if it's a villain that won't stoop at killing you.

Other characters have argued with her over this, one even expressed bitter dissapointment in her, but she's remained resolute.

So, what do you guys do? Discuss!!!
  4. As one of the mods of GGOOC, I don't have an issue with this as long as it's ONLY for advertising other RP venues and goes NOT detract from the GG scene.

Things such as the Fusion FM "radio" channel for example, are fine.

What I suggest is, we have a MOTD saying people may advertise other RP activities in there, but:

    1) They MUST contact the channel mods for permission first.
    2) Only named people may send the ad
    3) The ad MUST be RP related (And no, costume competitions are NOT RP!)
    4) No more than 1 ad per 20 minutes, so there is no spam

EDIT: Of course, it would be preferable for ads to be placed on the forums instead, but not all RPers use the forums... In fact, not all RPers use the GGOOC channel either.

    Fusion FM

    [ QUOTE ]
Perhaps the Moderators of the GGOOC channel could be asked to set a message of the day with such information?
Would be up to the (majority of) moderators to say yea or nea.

One problem I see is that you can't remove a MotD, just replace it with an empty one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have no problem with this, I think it's a good idea actually!
  6. FloatingFatMan

    Fusion FM

No, it's already running now so there'd be no point I think.

But it's something to remember for future channels.. Avoid the space in the name!
  7. FloatingFatMan

    Fusion FM

    [ QUOTE ]
    Hehe. It's simply Fusion FM.

I guess a message would go:

/send Fusion FM 'Dr. Vahzilok is back again?! Hero requesting back up! I am Nightshade, clearance level thirty-two, I repeat, hero requesting bac... AAAHHH!'

    Kinda thing.. right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Actually.. it would be:

/send "Fusion FM" Dr. Vahzilok is back again?! Hero requesting back up! I am Nightshade, clearance level thirty-two, I repeat, hero requesting bac... AAAHHH!

I do like the idea actually... But Ghost has a point with the " characters. On non-english keyboards, it can be a pain!
  8. I only point it out as it's possible one or two of your teammates might suddenly want to shoot off mid-mission... Though I'm sure there's only a small chance of that

BTW, Have you actually tried many IC missions yet? Early level missions are usually shortish, but once you get into zones like Perez and Steel, you might find 2 hours for a fully IC mission a little optimistic! All depends on what you do inside them...

Also, I don't know if you were aware of this, but it IS actually possible to get more than 8 people inside a single mission... have 2 teams, one of 8, one of 7. The team with the mission leader enters and the leader then quits and invites the others to team with him. They can they enter the mission too! You can actually get dozens of heroes inside a mission that way As long as the mission owner is inviting them from inside, all is good! It's rubbish for XP as the mobs will only spawn for the original 8 man team (Push it to invincible setting), but it can be great fun for RP....
  9. You'd also need to consider that one or two of the team members might want to shoot off at 9 for GG.

Have you guys considered maybe a Friday or Saturday evening? ie, when the next day isn't a school day, and less likely to be a work day... Just a suggestion of course!
  10. So.. a bunch of Sentinels then?

Given the power levels of some of the heroes at the statue, I don't think they'd last very long!

the Cirque has become a little headless.

A small understatement there I feel... But, we're trying to sort it out!

The democracy way... We're doomed, aren't we?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Correction.. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!(*™)
  12. Hey bud! 21 at last eh! Once you've sobered up and read this thread, HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATE!

Oh, and where's my slice of cake?
  13. Well.. Safe tactical experience against mobs is pretty usefull for PvE!

  15. [ QUOTE ]

I'd never use the Arenas IC (as an arena), for the simple reason that I think the entire concept is stupid and have done since they issued the pre-publicity material for the things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would help more, I think, if there was a kind of "Training Match", were you could actually earn something usefull to PvE. Maybe a player vs PvE mobs match to practice tactics or something. That would probably not work with the games current setup though. Something like, I dunno.. 10 hours training against Council mobs gives you 5% +Def against them as you are well used to their combat techniques and can better avoid their attacks? Only a small advantage, and takes a lot of work to earn.

Oh, and I'm not forum stalking you mate... Honest!
  16. Mate... Looking at what's going on in the Cirque right now, I can only say that you appear to have hammered that nail right through a few peoples sensitive spots!

Listen to these wise words people. As an SG get's bigger, different opinions start to make themselves known, discussions happen, get heated, and people leave... A dictatorship CAN work (as with the Cirque), but only whilst it stays small. And if people start to get bored.. BOOOOOM!
  17. Thanks for cleaning instead of just deleting Bridger...

Sometimes I really just despair of some threads... And myself!

Wouldn't want your job in a million years mate!

Please everyone, play nice, or don't play...
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I just don't like pvp on anything. I don't play versus modes in a local network, on a console or online. The game and people make no difference I just dislike the whole feeling of pvp.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Battleflag, you'll find this is quite a common attitude for gamers in CoH. This game was originally PvE only, and a lot of people chose it for that very reason, an MMO without PvP. It's now got PvP and quite a few people hate it, and won't touch it with a 60 meter cattle prod...
  19. Of course you can... But would you WANT to go beating up your friends? Hehehe...

But sure, you can easily set up FFA style matches in there, not a problem. I assume you're after a "danger room" style training area maybe? It kinda works for that purpose, but let down by not being able to select the map...
  20. [ QUOTE ]
As regards the rest of the team I'd say we're looking for Firstly scrappers and tankers with blasters needed least(the aggresive nature of defs and trollers could make up for this...I think). Agreed? We seem to be pretty good for healing but lowish on damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Isn't that a kind of odd viewpoint there? You say you don't need blasters, but you're low on damage? Blasters are damage kings, there is NO way a defender or controller can match their damage output, no in lower levels. An illusion controller can do it, but ONLY after they get all their pets, at level 32+.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
So I figured people had lost interest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, it was a victim of timing... You had your offline time just at the worse possible time, as the SG was being born. Other people just didn't have the wherewithall to keep it going. Also, at least two of it's members left the game as well... That, along with the mess up with invite permissions killed it.

Pity really, was an interesting idea.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
What i cannot understand however is why not make Pocket D the place to meet and socialize, it seems to be much more suitable and allows a wide range of character levels to move in with relatively ease, find people to roleplay and team with IC and then simply to move on. A bar/disco seems to me a much better place when it comes to social interaction, finding new contacts and recruit possible teammates, as it appeals to broader audience and offers more posssibilities to start with. Opinions may differ however

    [/ QUOTE ]

As well as Max's excellent reasons, there's also the fact that GG has a long established history as to the reasons for meetings there. Pocket D does not.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Okay, I certainly don't want to make things difficult. Should I delete my post comments? I don't mind. How about opening up the GG crowd to a 7pm meet aswell so people can do some early gaming, maybe meet back at 9pm? If we're familiar with being there at the start of the night we're probably more likely to return at the end.

    Battleflag

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've actually tried to get people to turn up a little earlier before, 8pm was my suggestion, as some people are on the continent, especially a player I RP most of the time with. It went OK for a bit, then kinda slipped back again...

Certainly can't hurt to try though!
  24. Thing is, it's REALLY nice that you're enthusiastic about RPing, but the community is not very large as it. More gatherings will reduce the size of the ones we already have.

A few weeks ago there was a little squabble amongst all the GGers. Us longer-term GG residents decided to go RP elsewhere so that there was no more trouble. In the end, we didn't. IMO, mainly cause the group would have been too small, and it limits your RPing. GG has a fairly good sized community base, but not large enough for multiple meeting places I think...

EDIT: A suggestion... I know you usually log by 9, but try turning up at GG one night and appealing to some fellow heroes for some assistance in a mission. I think you'll find a few takers...
  25. GG is used for FAR more than just IC chat you know. Yes it's turned out to be mainly the heroe's "off" time, but you also get a LOT of people meeting up there before going off to do missions.

I don't know if you're actually aware of the history of GG, but it was originally a meeting place for heroes to gather, pool information, and then go get the bad guys, pretty much exactly what you're proposing here, and was all started by a hero called Prize. The time was chosen mainly so that people could get things like dinner time, putting kids to bed, OOC missions etc, dealt with before moving on to some RP.

Galaxy City was chosen mainly due to the large number of disruptive players you generally find in Atlas.

Not trying to step on your idea and all that, but really; it's been done already.
