In a way, that's actually my fault as it's an old character of mine that showed her how to do it. However when I did that, my character carefully explained that only reasonably simple objects could be conjured, and only things you know very very well.

In fact, my character only used it for food and drink... I'm not sure, but I don't think Grav has never used it for very complex items, and they have a tendancy to fade back to nothing after a day or two... More complex things like spellbooks she teleports from her study...

Ooh! Great! The ultimate in low calorie food! No WONDER Miss Ellie is so skinny!

So was I. There really IS very very little in-game regarding the backstory of the Kheldian race.

And asking 2+ different RPers, who likely don't even know each other, to agree on non-game aspects of their race/species/whatever. It's just not going to happen.

There's a sort of way around it with Kheldians though. Take their forms shifting. In game we only ever see the Nova, Dwarf or Human form; but Kheldians can take the form of ANY creature they've ever bonded with. It just so happens that the ones on earth seem to have mainly bonded with Nova or Dwarves, but they likely have other forms as well that we just don't see... These are freely open for RPers to make of what they will.

Even some of the canon information tends to get ignored by players. Afterall, PeaceBringers, in canon information, said they would NEVER bond with a superpowered individual; yet they do all the time in RP. They even did it in the comic, though Horus WAS a bit dead IIRC...

Actually, Voyd did NOT, and still doesn't, break canon; I checked that most carefully before making him!. Simply because he comes from a time where we have NO canon material. Lots of people misunderstand what he was meant to be and I've pretty much given up trying to explain as no one listens.

Yes, he WAS a mistake to make, and he's not coming back; please bear in mind though, that he was made when I was still fairly new to RP!

Actually, there is VERY little real information about Kheldians in the game, which tends to give a LOT of scope for players interpretation on them. All we DO know about Kheldians for sure, is that they are an energy based lifeform (not sentient light), they come from outside our galaxy, and in their natural state only have a 10 year life span. Everthing else is 99% supposition.

Again, there is no canon information to indicate the nature of their energy state. Unfortunately, for a lot of people the lack of concrete information about Kheldians tends to make them very difficult to RP. Personally, I don't have that issue as, as long as I don't break the canon we DO have, I feel I have free reign to use my own ideas. And if they should release more information in the future, well... I'll probably be more non-canon then; but until such time one persons ideas of Kheldian nature is just as valid as anothers.

And clashing IS the biggest problem when it comes to RP and fudged powers. Like I said, everyone wants their character to be uber, and everyone likes to think they can beat anyone else. In reality, we cannot.

I've seen characters at GG that claim to be anything from a harmless cat, to the creator of the universe. In fact, that latter one, my character just laughed at him, called him a nutter, and did the twirly finger at the temple motion to him. Rather mean I know, but sometimes people do go WAY to far...

I'd just like to remind people, 7 days left before the close of the competition. All entries must be posted to this thread BEFORE the 19th February!

The problem with RP and fudge, is that it's all too easy to make your character TOO strong. Not enough people seem to balance the extra feats their characters can perform with downsides.

For example. My Miss Ellie. RP wise, she has greatly enhanced vision, hearing and smell. Can move so fast she blurrs, is very strong and has energy claws that can slice through proto-steel as if it were butter.

BUT, the hearing makes her susceptible to high frequency sound. She's VERY reactive to catnip so put that near her and her sense of smell will betray her in a rather amusing manner. Her claws are SO sharp she almost never uses them; too dangerous. And her fullest speed can only be attained in light form, where basically she's just a floating ball of energy with no mass or friction to worry about, but she can only do that for a few minutes.

Even with those checks in place, she can at times be a bit overpowered. That's partly the reason she chose to retire as an active hero. Too many thugs got accidentally killed...

Of course, it's only human nature to make your characters as strong as is possible. In some ways, the limits you're likely to get in MUO will probably work better as it will counteract this natural tendancy. Afterall, everyone wants a hero as powerfull as Superman deep down...

For starting out in RP in CoH, you're first step would probably be best to get to know the RP community. The two most well known spots for coming across social RP are at the Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy City, nightly from 9pm on the Union server, or Pocket D most nights on the same server.

These are social environments where you can get to know other roleplayers in an IC (In Character) way and seems to be preferred by a large number of RPers.

RP happens in lots of other places too, but tends to be more focused and is often located in private areas such as SG bases or even mission instances. The chances of random RP here are fairly slim as no one knows your characters. The social meets, even if not to your taste, WILL allow you to introduce yourself and your character to other RPers, make friends, and generally enhance the experience for you!

Your best bet is to read some of the threads in this forum, and wander along to one of the social meets, perhaps not with your main RP character at first. You can see what goes on and evaluate whether the styles of RP there suit your tastes. There is also an OOC (Out of Character) global chat channel, named GGOOC, that anyone is free to join. We try to keep OOC chat in there rather than local so that it doesn't spoil the flow of RP. Of course, joining is not mandatory, but if you wish to speak to someone OOC and not use that channel, it's best to either send a /tell directly, or use (( )) marks around your text to indicate OOC.

Friday night. Ellie and hr friend Hannah went clubbing for the evening, leaving Ellie's other half, Jess at home. (Jess and Hannah went out the previous Friday.) Jess's isn't much of a nightclub person so they painted the town an assortment of colours without her!

They hit a couple of clubs, and in one of them; Sapphos, who should they see but Nene and Jane Darc.. Slow dancing together!! One has to wonder about those two! Wonder if Jared knows?

Anyway, after much dancing and several drinks, the two girls decided to head back.

Damn right! Only, I'm currently restricted to laptop gaming, and my laptop can BARELY manage CoH, so RPing is a wee bit slow... Should be back properly in a day or two, once I've finished the decorating!

Only comment I have, perhaps it might be best to keep all parts of the same story in the same thread? Tends to make life easier for people reading it, and people voting for it in the creative genius competition!
