For starting out in RP in CoH, you're first step would probably be best to get to know the RP community. The two most well known spots for coming across social RP are at the Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy City, nightly from 9pm on the Union server, or Pocket D most nights on the same server.
These are social environments where you can get to know other roleplayers in an IC (In Character) way and seems to be preferred by a large number of RPers.
RP happens in lots of other places too, but tends to be more focused and is often located in private areas such as SG bases or even mission instances. The chances of random RP here are fairly slim as no one knows your characters. The social meets, even if not to your taste, WILL allow you to introduce yourself and your character to other RPers, make friends, and generally enhance the experience for you! 
Your best bet is to read some of the threads in this forum, and wander along to one of the social meets, perhaps not with your main RP character at first. You can see what goes on and evaluate whether the styles of RP there suit your tastes. There is also an OOC (Out of Character) global chat channel, named GGOOC, that anyone is free to join. We try to keep OOC chat in there rather than local so that it doesn't spoil the flow of RP. Of course, joining is not mandatory, but if you wish to speak to someone OOC and not use that channel, it's best to either send a /tell directly, or use (( )) marks around your text to indicate OOC.

I'm a long time PnPer, myself, and in fact, just to worry you, one of my RP toons is technically from Faerun as well. (I'll leave it to those who know it to guess which one.)
RP in CoH is brilliant fun, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
As FFM says, Union server has the only 'organised and open to all' RP meet (Galaxy Girl at 9pm UK time), and Pocket D is a great place to meet RPers too (apparently, according to my wife, anyway. 
)
Come along, join in and - this is important - DON'T be put off if it feels like you're being ignored. You're not. It's just that there are some ongoing things that distract people's attention, so they may find it difficult to find time to talk to you.
So, my personal recommendation is: Come to GG at 9, be friendly, accept chocolate (you will be offered some if you bring a female toon), and be prepared to answer questions. It's just like meeting someone new for the first time - people want to know stuff about you.

At least you got offered something... I've brought two different females to the statue and been offered absolutely nothing. On any of the several occasions they've been there.
Anyway, the Scotbots have a much wider range of produce available to you: Chocolate, sandwiches, drinks of all kinds, monkeys, crisps, cakes, strategic nuclear arms, pastries, confectionery, anthrax, roast chicken, Linda McCartney products, Linda McCartney, ice cream... You name it, the Scotbot'll warp probability to make sure you get it. If it feels like it. And there's no scope whatsoever for creative misinterpretation of your request.

Last night i talked with a nice lady named "Freebie" and she suggested me to post to forums, so i am doing it.
I have the experience from PnP about RP but don't know where to begin in CoH or how it works.
I have my two characters that i made up with a concept in mind. Two person from another dimension, another world very different from ours. (For anyone into the DnD, they are from the Faerun).
One of them is a daughter of a Goddess. Whose destined to love a specific man named Anthalion. Anthalion is also a son of a Godd. His mother was mortal and he's damned at birth by her father's arch-nemesis. He born slightly different; instead of females he interested in with males. So his father tried to protect him by sending another world where this kinda behavior is acceptable and unknown to his enemies. After a little time in etheral space and in a void of dimensions crossing he came to the Paragon City. So the Godess of Love. She joined a SG for make her search simple. While her mothers nemesis damned her destiny she's helplessly trying to find Anthalion, her fated lover. But still she doesn't know about his personality.
This is a short story i came up with. GoL is in my own SG. But i think Anthalion must be with another one. Playing this characters by my self or with other players can be boring sometimes. I once made a Anthalion as a scrapper but i couldn't played with it. I decided to make him as a TA/A defender this time.
In short is there any SG which accept that fate-ridden lost man. As he learns the way of modern life so i can learn how the role-playing is going on.
