When someone uses recall friend to TP you very high up above the Gulch in the hollows at a low level. But what does that have to do with 1 v 1s?
-
Why bother? It's not like Inf is hard to come by anyway.
-
I think he must have misread your build because Aim and Buildup do have the same base recharge.
-
Sounds good.
I need to get around to posting my fire/nrg build. -
I have a nin/nin PvP stalker in the works, there are a couple of things in Xanthus' post which never occurred to me but are actually really good ideas. Thumbs up.
-
What about for a solo blaster?
[ QUOTE ]
I'd also move the extra slot from resuscitate to aim. I find having the same recharge time on both aim and build up to be convenient.
Do you need acrobatics? I took it with my kinetic defender as she is always in the middle of things, but as a blaster I won't go up close.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, you want Aim and Buildup to recharge at the same time. But you do want to go up close as well. Your melee attacks are frankly awesome and staying at a distance really isnt much of a defense anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
I still took Flares on my fire/nrg blaster. Not using it that much anymore so you may be right in dropping it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Flares is utter rubbish. Don't bother with it at all. -
Ah but the arena is so [censored], under-used and impossible to find an opponent you can't really blame people for having 1 v 1 in PvP zones.
Just because you can do something, does't mean it's acceptable. -
[ QUOTE ]
IM not sure but I think there is an accuracy cap, thou dont quote me on that, and dont ask me what it is, also factor in additioanl bubble, i mean to m's get access to dispersion field? cryolite armor? forcefield drones? and isnt there an inherent +def bonus to pvp zones?
[/ QUOTE ]
No accuracy or defense cap, methinks. But ToHit is capped between 5% and 95%. -
Earlier today I was the only hero in bloody bay with 5 or 6 villains. Rather than ganking me over and over, we arranged over broadcast some 1 on 1 duels. This was great fun. After a couple of battles I had to go afk, so I informed the villains i was duelling and asked them to not attack me while I was gone. I came back, and, lo and behold, they were good to their word and had not attacked me. After ten or fifteen minutes of various duels (i could never beat that one stalker) with various rules (I couldn't even beat him when he didn't use AS), I returned from the hospital and was arranging another duel when a spines stalker started attacking me. The other villains told him to stop but he kept it up so I started fighting back. As soon as I did he accused me of griefing him. We tried to have some more duels but this one stalker kept on deliberately ruining it. And when I finally dueled the stalker, he ran away as soon as I got his health below 50%. It all broke down into a big battle over the broadcast chat. My point? Just because it's possible to do it within the constraints of the game, it doesn't mean it's acceptable. If I wanted I tp a team-mate to a very high height and have them land in a high level mob, but do I? If you see people having an arranged 1 on 1 duel, leave them be.
EDIT: Oh, and don't ever give anyone the '1 V 1 IS FOR THE ARENA' [censored]. SHAMELESS PLUG! -
Why is health not worth slotting? I'd have thought that I need all the defenses I can get, and regen sounds like a defense to me.
-
Yeah, I forgot to mention Aid Self. Don't leave home without it.
So do you solo or team? With my fire/eng I solo almost the whole time. When soloing i always open up with my AoEs but when teaming I find this draws too much aggro > dead. And nothing pisses off mind controllers like casting fireball into a group they've just AoE sleeped.
And that range enhancer you've put in Firebreath... I'm not entirely sure if this is worth it, I forget which schedule Range enhancements are. You might be better off with a recharge or endrdx.
Good luck with your blaster, and enjoy the pure destruction you'll rain on your opponents! (Not literally though. Rain of Fire is [censored].)
Oh, and on the endurance issue - right now (lvl 26) I have absolutely no problem with endurance. I have 3 slotted stamina, no conserve power, and the only powers I have endrdx in are Firebreath and Fireball (1 SO each). -
1) Take aim earlier. Aim > Buildup before your attacks is essential and if you don't take aim early on you will miss it (no pun intended).
2) Why take hurdle? Super jump with a few SOs will cap your jump height anyway, so it's probably a better idea to take health, for some added defense.
So swap hurdle for health, then take the extra three slots off hasten, and put two in health and one in Superjump.
3) Take energy punch. A blaster still needs melee attacks, especially when they do more damage in melee than they do at range. Energy punch/bonesmasher will be your bread and butter when the enemies get too close. And trust me, they do that a lot.
Thats just my 2 cents. I'm loving my fire/nrg blaster, I hope you do too. -
[ QUOTE ]
conserve power's a big plus with the endurance hungry AOEs,
[/ QUOTE ]
With 3-slotted stamina and an endredux SO in firebreath and fire ball I never have problems with endurance.
[ QUOTE ]
stun for when things close you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why stun them when you can use bonesmasher and energy punch to kill them in almost the same amount of time? A dead enemy is fully debuffed - unless it's those ******* self-rezzing freakshow.
Edit: Oh yeah, and that was a stupid mistake I made earlier in the thread, sorry. -
I think the most screaming-in-your-face-stupidity issue which I raise is the whole idea that heroes should run everywhere. It's a city! With roads! I don't want to have to sprint everywhere until lvl 14! Can't I use this influence to take the bus?

And lastly, anyone know the base defense on the powers on SR, both toggle and auto?
[/ QUOTE ]
Meale and ranged togles: 12.5% defence
Meale and ranged passives: 5% defence
AoE defence is a litle higher : i think its about 20%
Any of them 3 sloted for defence with SO's will almost double the base defence values !
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, defense enhancements are schedule B so you'll get a 60% bonus. -
Heh. Have you ever fought against a Stalker? If so, you'd know that 90% of the time if a stalker can't kill you within three seconds of ASing you they'll run away to avoid dying. It's a two-way street.
But yeah, TP foe or Spines/ are your only real options. -
Plus our inherent just encourages us to hang around in a situation where doing anything other than running = debt.
Defiance is useless! -
Exactly! The whole idea is flawed. If the devs are really so happy with Defiance, why don't they build the AT around that in the way that the CoV ATs are completely built around their inherents?
Y'know, the devs constantly say that they don't think there's anything wrong with defiance, but I've yet to hear a dev actually give a REASON why they find our inherent non-gimped.
Oh, well, it could be worse. Defenders have Vigilance. -
What do the bartenders do? I volunteer for either bartender or patroller, but I make no guarantees at this point that I can be there for the whole event.
Here's an idea - some sponsored dueling. (Yes, I know that's a stupid name). Heroes and Villains could participate in one-on-one fights and lookers donate inf. to the winner. Anyone who runs away mid-fight gets ganked.
Comments? -
I think the blaster class is inherently flawed in that this is not a fantasy MMO, and more or less every enemy in the entire game has a ranged attack, and his ranged attack are not neccesarily less damaging than melee attacks.
RANGE IS NOT A DEFENSE. -
Spotted a couple of typos and general edits I should make, but the edit time's expired. Bah.

Aim plus build up plus 6 +3 damage SOs in I5 would have taken you to 493% damage or there abouts (that was the figure for the nukes essentially if you 6 slotted damage, based on 100% base, 100% build up, 62.5% aim, and 38.3*6=229.8 from enhancements). With an acc and 5 damage as most people had in their attacks you were looking at ~455%, again, assuming you had +3s in, they made quite a big difference then. Previously even level with 6 SOs gave you 460.5 % damage, with 5 SOs 427.5%, if you used aim and build up before hand. Realistically you could cap yourself on damage for your nukes with just a red or two, depending on the state of your SOs of course.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very detailed, but it's flawed from the first sentence because aim and build up don't take Damage enhancements. Only Recharge, End, and ToHit Buffs. -
Or they could stop Blasters from being the most perma-debted AT in either game.
Anyone wanna come protest under Atlas with me? -
A funny thing happened on the way to work today. Whilst walking around the streets of Steel Canyon for hours on end going nowhere, I noticed a group of men all with red or blue skin committing no crime, simply standing around. Suddenly a hero appeared and set them all on fire with a click of his fingers, before running off at superhuman speeds. I stopped jaywalking. Then three outcasts appeared out of thin air right in front of me! The biggest and strongest of the three tried to grab my handbag, but what actually happened was we both fought over it for hours on end, repeating the same snappy one-liners every time a hero approached. And lots of heroes did pass. First a pair of heroes came near, both wearing matching colours with the symbol of a shield on their chests. The first was a tall, handsome fellow with the letter S on his chest, a long flowing cape and eyes that glowed red.
Help me! I cried. He stopped in his tracks.
Are you joking? he snapped. Those outcasts con grey to me. I wont get any experience and I already have my badge.
Go! Hunt! Kill outcasts! said his partner with a grin, before they jumped into the air and flew off.
A few minutes later, a young female hero wearing an extremely suggestive pink costume ran past. I cried for help. She stared at me with the utmost contempt.
No blind invites! N00b. And she was gone.
The third hero to approach was a humongous robot, energy crackling around his oversized fists. Seeing my plight, he launched into combat with a roar. The Outcasts turned around, and, drawing submachine guns which up until now they had not been visibly carrying, took him down in a hail of gunfire.
Oh my god! he cried as the teleport system whisked him away. Ive been nerfed! My defenses are gone and I cant manage aggro like I used to! Im going to complain to other heroes on the forums! Being a hero is no fun anymore, were all too weak to fight anything and theres nothing new, only nerfs! Hell, Im so angry I might threaten to cancel my subscription!
I was confused. What subscription? Finally the three outcasts randomly disappeared and I was free to carry on walking about. I noticed many heroes running to their next destination. This was something that always confused. I knew that only the higher-level heroes had access to flight or super speed powers and such like, but why did the lower level heroes run everywhere? Couldnt they just hail a cab?
As I approached the Yellow Line station, I saw another group of outcasts in combat with a heroine. She had taken most of them out already, and the remaining two were in close combat with her. Glowing balls of energy surrounded her fists and she smacked one in a belly with a massive punch. He went flying for several feet and landed in a broken heap in the middle of the road. An approaching car continued at full speed but merely pushed him out of its way.
The heroine then drew the most stupid looking gun Ive ever seen. It had several barrels and a big fuel tank, with almost every gun accessory imaginable tacked on somewhere. She then took aim at the final enemy and let loose with a huge hail of bullets. By the time she had stopped firing, the villain was barely recognizable.
Is he okay? I asked.
Sure, said the Heroine. Hes just arrested.
However, the outcast she had punched into the road was still conscious. He charged towards the heroine, baseball bat in hand, while she was still reloading her gigantic metal super-soaker. Suddenly he cast his hands into the air and turned translucent, caught by the beam of the Yellow Lines Police Drone.
Wow said the heroine. Good thing that these things are able to tell just by looking at somebody whether theyre a criminal or not, and can halt any kind of criminal activity in seconds.
Yes, I said. Doesnt it make you wonder why they only leave them in two or three places in each zone? And how whenever theres a serious crime happening, like that time when all the villains were busted out of the Zig and escaped to the Rogue Isles, the police send a few expendable officers who inevitable get taken hostage and have to be rescued by a hero team, when they could just send a few Police Drones?
Yeah, it makes you wonder, doesnt it, said the heroine.
Hey, you! She called to a passing hero. Are you a healer?
Im an empathy, if thats what you mean, said the slightly offended hero.
No, I said a healer, sorry, called the heroine. Well, Im off for a mission now. I guess Ill solo it. It might be a problem, though, because my inherent power sucks.
Dont get me started on my inherent power, sighed the defender.
The heroine ran over to a nearby door. However, just as she was about to enter, the door was opened from the other side.
What do you think youre doing? she confronted the hero who emerged from the building.
This is an office complex. It was attacked and overrun by council members who took hostages but Ive saved the day.
No, said the heroine. This a high-tech laboratory, and its infested with clockwork. Out of my way.
I couldnt take it any more. I ran to the train station and hopped on the first one that arrived. Ever noticed that trains enter the station when viewed from the outside once every few minutes, but inside the station they arrive in a matter of seconds?
And dont even get me started on what happened when I arrived in Atlas Park!
I fear for the future of this city. Soon it will all be gone to the Americans.

That's all folks! I'll post a part two some time, whenever I think of anything in a similar vein to write. And I'm sure there's more.
