  2. I've used a program called spinrite in the past but that is for hard drives. I've never tried recovering data off of a USB.

If you can't find any free programs that do a reasonable job then you may have to purchase something. I bet you can find something for under 50 bucks.

And I'm not saying you spend the money on it (I know you mentioned you were strapped for cash), but if recvering the data is important enough to him he'll have to purchase it. And if he doesn't have the money either maybe he can borrow some from friends or family.

My recommendation would be to find a program that has a guarantee otherwise you run the risk of spending money on something that doesn't work. I don't know if such a program exists.

Maybe someone who has some recent experience with data recovery can chime in but "knock on wood" I haven't had to do any sort of recovery in quite some time.

    Good luck.
  3. You should have a kin. The -rech penalty is a pain.

I have a pimped out SS/STONE and I went for speed and recharge.

Electric isn't a very hard hitter so I'm not sure it'd be ideal as a farming toon. If I farm, I do it with my ice/kin or any one of several /shield brutes. You could farm with an SO'd out /WP, /INV or /STONE to save up some money.

If you still would like to pimp out your stone go for speed and recharge. There are lots of places for the lotg 7.5% unique and that's where the majority of the money is spent.

    Good luck.
  4. Hopefully this issue was fixed since the team issue was fixed.

EDIT: Also this isn't the only case when this happened:

    Quote:
Team Interface: Fixed a display issue where a player’s name was listed twice in the Team window when another teammate in another zone was promoted to Team Leader.
  5. The team list bug also has a chance of tossing players from the team and if it happens on a strike force or a task force there's no chance of rejoining.

i16 (or a different patch) has reintroduced issues with Reichsman and some Manticore spawns. Additionally there are a handful of isuses with the new pet feature. The mouseover feature with SOs has also been rebroken but I'm not sure when this happened.

These are the most noticeable to me anyway, the most severe bug being the team bug and the ugly possibility of being ejected from a team, strike force or task force.

    support?

I just emailed him/her through the boards for a different issue.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/member.php?u=483906

Click on the Send Message link on the top left.

I had one billing issue where a purchase for one of the packs went through an extra time so I contacted PlayNC:

    support?

No set drops is odd, I've gotten a handful of those. But no purples isn't unexpected. I haven't gotten any purples since i16 dropped either.
  8. Performance is pretty good for me.

EDIT: Oh, I'm not in game yet. I'm still at work so that might be why.

On a more serious note I don't see any complaint threads from the US users so I assume it's going alright. Time will tell.

    support?

    Hi QP,

I suggest emailing Arbiter Kim your case number. She's the latest community liason.

The issue with support is they're all outsourced and just give generic responses.

You're getting 0 drops? Or just not many?

    Pet issues/bugs

It is a half cooked feature riddled with bugs.

    - when mal'd/exemped pets do not zone with you
    - pets get detached randomly when zoning. Sometimes rebuffing reattaches them

It should've never been announced as a feature since it was never finished or tested properly. And if this is the finished product... oh boy!

I'd prefer not to have the feature at all than to have it work the way it does now.
  11. You should post a cohhelper and hijackthis. Despite it happening for you since the last patch it has been fine for me and I use WinXP Pro as well.

You may also want to explain the game crashes and freezes a bit. Do these happen when you do certain things like click on the Black Market or Wentworth's contacts? What kind of crash? To desktop? Computer reboot? Whole computer lockup? Forced to end task in Task manager? There have been posts about memory usage reaching 1.6gb and that causing freezes and/or crashes for folks.

One thing that has helped me traditionally after downloading and applying patches is defragging so you may want to give that a shot.

Seeing the logs and understanding your symptoms will help the folks here help you.

    Good luck.

    New team bug?

Yeah then there's the lovely side effect of being dropped off a strike force. See my post on this in this forum.

    New team bug?

New since the last patch. There are a handful of posts about it in the first page or 2 of the forum.
  14. I have confirmation that one of the ones kicked was in Obo next to one of the ones still on the team. Standing right next to one another.

I think it is related to Ouro and happens similiar to a legitimate occurrence.

    - player 1 uses obo on villainside
    - player 2 uses obo on heroside
    - player 2 switches to villainside
    - player 2 joines player 1 on a team without using obo
    - player 2 uses obo and gets the message above.

This is simplifying it but it may be that it read the obo I was in as a hero instance.

It's too late to try and reproduce it, if I feel like it I'll take another look at it tomorrow. However I think I'm going to avoid several task forces until this is fixed.

    It's a tad bit annoying.
  15. And I just confirmed the same text happens if you're on a mixed team in a shared zone and you go to Obo:

    You have quit your team
You were dropped from your team of Heroes and Villains because this zone does not allow mixed teams.
  16. Eh I may not have noticed it before I got to Nerva because I wasn't paying attention it could have very well happened in Obo. I have confirmation from one other that it did happen in Obo for him.

Anyway, nasty bug and I hpoe it goes away soon. I've PM'd Kim with this.

EDIT: I also have confirmation from the leader that he did not set the next mission before this happened.
  17. It's the RSF, we speed run it all the time. At the end of the 3rd mish we all use Obos to head to Nerva. That's when it dropped us.
  18. Yeah we also hit our Obo from inside a mission. Not enough time for the next mission to be set but I don't know for sure.
  19. It might have happened when I went to obo before hitting Nerva. This makes a little more sense since you can reproduce this behavior by joining a mixed team in RWZ or Cim then hitting Obo.
  20. This may be tough to explain, I don't have a screenshot to support this.

I was on a Statesman, switched toons then ran a Numina. During both of those the team list blank bug, reporting people in zones that they weren't in was apparent but never really caused any problems.

Here's the kicker, I then switched to a villain to run an RSF. It showed the team leader (no name, blank black bar) as being in Eden. Eden? The last zone I was in before I switched from a hero to a villain. The leader was actually in Grandville.

Now it doesn't end there. We ran the missions in Grandville and then took the Obo portal to Nerva while the team lead grabbed the mission. Upon entering Nerva from Obo several of us were dropped from the team. Not all of us, just several.

    The text is as follows:

    Agrajag has quit the team
    You have quit your team
You were dropped from your team of Heroes and Villains because this zone does not allow mixed teams.

So we went from an annoying team list bug to this. I think that's a pretty severe escalation.

    fyi and fya

    Regards,
    Fitz
  21. My answer -- anything you find enjoyable. Electric armor brutes aren't the most survivable but you're not looking for that. It'll be fine for you and fun too and doesn't take min/maxing or lots of IOs to enjoy it.

Boomerrang up there is going into some unnecessary details and shouldn't have lectured on the proper abbreviations for the sets. Don't let one person's negative opinion change your mind.

Electric, Invuln, Stone (usually requires a kin) and Willpower don't need a lot of work to just enjoy. Even fire and dark will work if you have concept reasons for those if you're going to be primarily playing with just your girlfriend.

    An nrg/ela won't be terrible, I promise.
  22. Softcapped ranged defense is a powerful thing. Having 45% increases your survivability 10 fold. Here's my fire/cold build you can adapt to meet your needs.

No worry about end issues with heat loss and the optional power sink.

EDIT: And give mids planning a try. It's not that hard. Keep advanced totals and set bonusses open while you build. It's daunting at first but once you get over the learning curve it's smooth sailing.
  23. The issue with the team list showing black is happening for most if not everyone.

I haven't hit the waypoint bug myself.
  24. I like my energy/electric brute. It's not ultra powerful but it has a very quick feel to it.

If you like the feel of energy melee I suggest sticking with it. The only thing it lacks are AOE attacks but it's fun to bash people in the face.

Secondaries you'll get a lot of different responses, each has its benefits. Electric now has a self heal. It's not the most survivable defensive set but if you're not taking on really large groups or if you have inspirations you can pop if the situation is overwhelming it's not bad. Where it shines is it's quick, has a great end recovery/end drain power in powersink and a flashy tier 9 in powersurge. It also does great against Rikti.

If you're looking for a no worries secondary that manages itself I suggest going with Willpower. You have 2 end recovery powers and it's generally good enough to take on most mobs. You don't really have to worry about endurance or healing and it's pretty easy to manage.

Defensive sets I think you should avoid: shield, super reflexes, dark armor, fire armor, energy armor. The reason I say to avoid shield and super reflexes is that they're defensive based sets and if you're not going to build them out they can be frustrating to play. If you get hit you get hit hard.

Enjoy the game, I'm sure others will chime in here with their advice as well.

Also check the boards there are guides and others that have asked similar quesitons so you may find some information that's useful to you.
