Quote:LOL watching my partner run up to a potted plant to attack it during a DE mission is still one of my favorite memories...I sometimes get spooked by the potted plants when I am in a DE mission where they are providing a Robust Challenge. You never know about those plants...
What ALWAYS gets my attention is when someone brings along their Redcap Pet... had too many ambushes by those swine not to be a tad jumpy when I see one amble up...
And yeah, he and I have a pair of Croatoan fae characters and we brought our Redcaps and blue wisps on the KHTF. In the mission in the caves that are flooded with Redcaps, there was much cursing of us. Kudos that no one asked us to dismiss them though, lol. -
Quote:Oh my god, someone else who knew Roughshod!! I miss her!! She was in my old SG, along with Slipshod the MA/SR scrapper. They were gods, I miss them.Roughshod, THE most bad-*** inv/ss tanker I have ever met.
I think the funniest character name I've ever seen was Whitey-Tighty on Virtue. I haven't seen him for years, but spotting him used to be be a thing for my friends and I. He was a black toon, big afro, and only wearing a pair of white briefs and a plain green cape which was, according to his bio, a safety-pinned bathtowel.
My own favorite name moment was The Slightly-Used Moth, who was actually named after an actual moth one of my cats found... and then err, discarded. Whole. -
I would still really REALLY love a spear set.

Quote:And that is one of the biggest reasons I don't believe in putting backstory in the info tab. First off, it sort of ruins the surprise, and secondly, I don't want anyone to ever have any excuse for that sort of behavior. My "info" describes what you see when you look at the character aside from what the toon looks like - some extra information the toon can't convey, such as age, a sly smile, or a dry, husky voice.See, I disagree with 'My character has access to x information off the bat'. For example, there was one guy in PD who's bio blithely stated that 'whoever he looks into the eyes of he knows there past'.
Sorry...what? Seriously? Go to hell. He tried it with a chacter who I've since deleted, a demonette assassin who disguised herself as human. He tried to instantly have all the background I'd written in her biog, clearly ignoring the stuff explaining her being disguised and such.
This is basically de-generating into finger pointing on who has right of way. "My character has access to this information, how dare you say he cant!" "My character is totally unknown, how dare you say you know them."
Give and take in equal measure. Show people some courtesy to their concept, and you'll get some in return. I for one don't agree with "X powerset makes them a villain."
Examples;
Thugs mastermind? Bunch of street kids who've decided they don't want to live in a dump and are taking on the local gangs, with the smaller but brainier kid making the plans. Mercs? Private group who are taking on crime either because their being paid by the City or simply for justice. Necromancy? A channeler who gives the spirits of those who are murdered a temporary physical form long enough to see justice done, in exchange for helping the City.
And there are plenty of ways to play a Stalker without 'stabbing people in the back'.
I leave backstory for people who can RP with me, and who my character trusts enough to share that information. And it frustrates the god-moders to no end. -
Well, after following the recommended method and updating my drivers, the result is sadly nill. The Longbow maps still drop me to single-digit FPS and make playing nearly impossible in the slideshow

Quote:Everything blueside. I'm not kidding. Take every damn contact and every damn zone and overhaul them. Give some cohesion between contacts. Give each zone and overlying plot, like the Hollows and Faultline have. So, for Kings Row it has you digging into the Skulls backstory and their drug pushing and black magic. Talos sees you going up against the Warrios and the Freakshow as they try to out-duke each other. Independence Port sees you crack down on the drug and weapon smuggling war between the Tsoo and the Family, maybe even link in the Council and such, which could then in turn lead logically to Striga Isles.
The old content is so. Damn. Old and Rusted, its painful. The storyline is bogged down under terrible mission layouy, boring defeat alls and hunts, multi-zone hops and hop backs, before they even give you a damn cellphone number....painful, boring, not fun.
Cohesion and revamp is worth two new zones. Period.
Oh my god, this. This, this, this. Blueside needs polish and tightening SO MUCH. Those missions have been there for six years, facelift time PLEASE!
Quote:Love to see 90% of the oldschool content rewritten. Manticore, Synapse, Citadel TFs are all really shoddy, with Manticore being the worst. Shard TFs could use a going over, but I love them even as they areReally I'd just like to see the signature task forces redone and the originals left in Ouro to stare at and shudder.
I vote for this too!! -
30 active characters.
Only my widow makes use of the second build. Which is to say, she has one, but I almost never swap to it. I like the Fortunata better for unique play, and I already have a Claws scrapper.
Mids is my friend, and I don't think I've ever used up the vet specs on a single character. Usually when I find the need to respec, there's a freespec waiting. -
No, they have the same "texture" as the normal "light blue" tech maps. They're just white instead. And the Longbow maps are grey and white, but otherwise the same as the "Crey lab" map. It's something about the white that does it.
Ok, I'll give that a go... -

I'm honestly curious: why would my machine specs matter when the game runs fine on any other kind of map? It's clearly just this one graphic type that's doing me in, which means it should be something in the game settings.
-
Hi folks,
Wondering if there's any ideas or suggestions for this - the game runs fine 99% of the time (I get the same lag spikes and rubberbands anyone gets in the usual places and times like Talos WW and heavy server load places) and I do not have it on ultra mode until I get a new video card. However, any "white" maps - Praetoria labs and Longbow maps - kill my fps. I drop down to single digits as soon as I zone in, and nothing makes it any better.
Does anyone have any suggestions for anything that could ease the pain of ending up on those maps? Some setting I can adjust for them? -
Quote:Some of the tip missions are pretty bad on ambushes as well, though nowhere near the level of some of the Praetorian missions. For the Tip missions, it's just frequency of ambushes. Basically, once you defeat an ambush, within two to five seconds, another comes up. Then after that, two to five seconds later, another one. And another one. And another one.Quote:I am a casual but dedicated player; I play to unwind, relax after work, and relieve some stress. Facing 6 or 7 back to back ambushes of Malta sappers and engineers in a tip mission set to +0/+0 on my solo blaster, where they spawn 30 feet away even before the first spawn is cleaned up, that is just stupid.
I bugged it and autocompleted, but any time that tip drops it's getting deleted from here on out. That's a waste of development time, right there, if the mission never gets played. -
Quote:That would be excellent, I'm all for it. I'm so tired of getting shoved around by pets (not just MM pets either - I got moved quite a ways by someone with fire imps earlier today) and listening to the noise and having my eyes bleed because someone decided their Shadowfall/Steamy Mist REALLY needed to be electric pink with neon green edges.Simple.
Leave Wentworth and the Black Market exactly as they are, just add a door leading to a "downstairs" room for folks that like things quiet, and add in a clickable door to the back of the Black Market truck where you can go inside the big rig which would be their version of the quiet room.
Then grab a beer and call it a day and a job well done.
Of course, it would help if the zones were designed more conveniently. Most of the markets in the game do NOT have quick access to a university, bank, and SG/VG portal. I'd kill for more places to be designed with the convenient access that Cap gives, and to a lesser extent, Talos and Steel. There's a REASON those are the busy markets in the game, because it's much more inconvenient in other zones. -
Just to follow up on this, no, you cannot set a Paypal account to be your primary billing. It just asks you for a credit card.
-
Quote:I appreciate the advice and will give that a go when the store comes back up (can you have no credit card and just a paypal account? I guess we'll see!) but the thrust of the post was to ask them to add the character slot purchase functionality to the store, not seeking a workaround.change your payment options in your master account to what you want to use and then change it back.
Seriously, thanks for the idea though -
You will also get it if you use the trainer to swap your active builds.
-
Not 100% sure this is the forum to go to, but can't think where else it should go.
I'd like to purchase a couple more character slots, BUT I cannot do it through the store/NCsoft website. I can buy character slots for Guild Wars, which I don't play, but not for CoX. The only way CoX lets us buy slots is through the actual login screen.
The problem with this is that it automatically bills my credit card if I do that, without asking for another payment method. Through the online store, I can buy things with Paypal.
My credit card is of very limited use, and I am only allowed by that budget to purchase monthly time with it. However, my Paypal account (which is hooked to a bank account) is my own personal money that I make from sales, and I can spend it as I choose - and all my peripheral buying in CoH (boosters, expansions, etc) go through Paypal.
Yes, it's not a really big deal to use the card for a $10 purchase and then handle the payment manually, but it is a pain to me that I can't buy slots through the store. If it's at all possible, that might be something NCsoft should consider changing. -
Quote:Actually... I've been playing MMOs since EQ, and no, it isn't. This is not at all a poor quality retail expansion in relation to the rest of the MMO genre. I've bought expansions that were much MUCH thinner in content for the same price.Maybe you don't play other MMOs but this is a piss poor quality retail expansion in relation to the rest of the MMO genre.
Also, to compare oranges to actual oranges...
1-costume set booster with emotes and an inherent power - 9.99
2 character slots - 9.99
1 month of play time - 15.00
That's $35 right there, which is about what most people paid for the complete edition by taking advantage of the sales all over the place (like Best Buy, where my husband got it - sadly I pre-ordered for $30 and then bought the $7 booster to complete it)
Now add 3 more full costume sets, 3 zones, a bunch of tip missions, a new game mechanic and a graphical overhaul.
No, the price for this expansion is certainly more than fair for the content offered by the terms of the game the expansion was for. -
I'd love to see the devs go through and re-do the Paragon zones one at a time - not full revamps the way Faultline was done, but just polish and shine. Not as shiny as Praetoria, heck no, but update the look, the edges, the view distance, things like the windows, etc. Paragon's been looking a little ragged since CoV came out with a much higher graphic value to the zones, and with Praetoria gleaming on the horizon, Paragon's looking a little run down!

Quote:Imagine how un-fun it would be for actual new players to start out (which they're obliged to do - first characters on new accounts now must start in Praetoria) in a new game where swarms of 50s are running around like locusts, killing everything for badges and quests and herding PLing groups through missions and telling everyone how to play?Which as I was saying is pretty retarded. I like playing my 50s, I have tons of fun with my current ones. One I've never tired of playing. I want to do stuff with it. Why bother releasing an actually expansion if you have to wait for several issues to even make good use of it.
I think it's quite reasonable to restrict the content for an issue or two. -
I'd remake Talos Island heroside - frankly, I think the new tech they've put into Praetoria would really POP in Talos, there's a ton of potential. Of course, Talos is also one of the laggiest zones ever and the new lag in Praetoria on my computer means I probably wouldn't even be able to go there.

Quote:I'm pretty sure which one you're talking about, and the funny thing is I'm on vacation from a different one where the exact same thing is true.In at least one game I can think of (it'll go unnamed but I'm sure everyone knows which one I mean) the endgame doesn't increase your options. It narrows them. Sure there's so many max level raids you could do, but few people do any of them - except for speed runs to gear up for that one 'end of the end game' raid.
Endgame is what you make it. Constantly raising the level cap and obsoleting anything you added in the LAST expansion turns the MMO into a deathrace. -
Quote:Oh, sheesh. Well, I guess I'll have to go turn that on, and make sure my second Praetorian has it on before I start running her, as well! You, sir, are correct. I was frustrated last night, trying like the OP to find the outdoor glowies. The bomb mission was killing me. Finally, in exasperation, I yelled out in the broadcast channel that I couldn't find them and asked if anyone knew where they were, that I'd been roaming around for half an hour to no avail. I got greeted by a couple of yells of, "They're on your map!"
Um, no, they're not.
Oh, wait...
What's this?
*forehead slap!* You have to turn them on to be seen! I foresee that this is going to be a rite of passage for an awful lot of players in Going Rogue. This was my first Praetorian character, so I don't know how the option to display outdoor glowies got turned off when it was never even an option before, but there you go.
I did write up a /bug and filed it under the "Suggestion" category, that during the very first outdoor glowie mission, it needs to be printed in bold yellow text that if you cannot see them on your map, check to see if you have your settings set to display them. Hopefully, they'll do that, or maybe even print it in every mission text that has your traipsing around looking for them in case you forget or the settings get wonky again.
That should definitely be turned on by default. Those annoying ! help popups are!
Thanks very much for the heads-up on that.
