It does need slotting really. One intangibility in it will let you phase up to +2 bosses I think but then with no acc it might miss...
Mine is slotted with three acc/mezz HOs at the moment and I can remove a whole +3 group from a fight if need be. It's not useful often but I had a free power and the slots. -
[/ QUOTE ]Looks very impressive, but has always led to a rapid faceplant for yours truly; the rest of the team's busy retoggling, you've just aggroed whatever's left unstunned from an 8-person spawn, plus the stunned ones will be back soon. And guess who they're angry with...?

That's why I have Vengeance and Black Hole. -
I'd take it for a non-GA build. My latest build (although I've not respecced into it yet and of course don't have to level using it) has it at 41 ready for Infernal.
-
Currently slotted 2 Endoplasm HOs, 3 Enzyme HOs and a heal. Previously was 3 to hit debuff, 1 acc, 1 hold, 1 heal (but I also run tactics). As far as I know, it's accuracy is no higher than normal?

A well built non-GA tank is a good tank but needs effort put in to make it reasonably survivable without team buffs. A GA tank is a good tank but needs effort put in to allow it to hold aggro well. Both are viable. Both have advantages and both have weaknesses in different situations. Personally I'd not say either was 'better'.
The main issue people have with perma-GA builds is that most people using them don't build them to hold aggro and don't understand the powers (I watched a stoner using GA to tank minus 20 clockwork the other day for instance). That's what gives them a bad rep. -
Sums it up really. Putting on GA means you don't have to look at your HP bar (except versus some mob types) and can concentrate on other things. Stone does have good defence and resistance (plus regen to back it up) and is far from rubbish but the defence isn't huge and neither is the resistance. Without team backup, it can struggle in some situations.
-
Well, it does give a better defence than Weave - he'd just be a pointless tank whilst using it....
-
Yes, they both work. Tough is fairly pointless if you have Stone Skin as you'll already be at the S/L resistance cap. Weave is probably useful to give a little defence against Psi whilst in Granite but considering how strong granite is normally, you probably don't need the extra 7.5% defence when facing much else.
-
Oh, and looking like you have elephant poo on your feet - that's a penalty as well surely for nongranites!?

Tanks still do reasonable damage. If you are doing less damage, you are killing less mobs. If you are killing less mobs than you could be, you are inefficient.

To make my granite light build work and be fairly survivable, I have virtually no attacks and even the ones I have are not fully slotted for damage. I definitely do less damage than every other GA tank I've teamed with. I think both GA and non-GA builds can be efficient but in different situations. -
Rooted has 90% -runspeed compared to -70% for Granite. I don't believe it's possible to hit the defence cap on any character, is it?
-
Might have a play around tonight and see what sort of GA build I can come up with. Thing is a lot of the downsides of granite also apply to non-GA tanking (no jumping and even greater -runspeed for instance). Use of IOs and set bonuses will make Granite faster, hit (a tiny bit) harder, have more health, more regen and better recovery. How much for each will depend on the builds in question.
I hoped a non-GA build would become more viable and you'd see more people playing them but it seems far easier to improve Grainte than it does to make the normal stone armours easily workable. As you said "why play with less if u can have way more.". -

I have no set bonuses on anything so far. I will be waiting for drops and doing a few swaps with people plus transferring finds around my 50s. Nothing ingame is making me see a must have now need for them except PVP cos then maybe you'd want advantages.

Well as I prefer tanking out of Granite, I'm trying to use the set bonuses to increase my survivability. It was reasonably high before but that was down to the damage mitigation of my secondary. I'd prefer not to have to rely on that.
I was hoping that inventions would make non-GA tanking more appealing to people but I think the opposite is true as GA tanks can offset a lot of their downsides. Shame really. -
As no one else has said it yet, welcome.
Can't help with the chat question, not a member of any of the channels myself. If you need a hand with anything, feel free to give me a shout. -
Tell me about it.
Still, I'm biding my time, have a bit saved up and thanks to a few lucky drops (like the Posi Blast recipe I got this morning and am hoping will have earnt me a nice 5 mil by the time I get home) it should be doable. -
I decided to go the root of a regen tank. I'm fairly sure I can get my tank to 2600-2700 HP with a nice 500% regen. And as a plus I think I can drop Stamina from my build as well. Of course this could all go wrong and I won't be able to tell until I finished my slotting - at which point I'll be too skint to change my mind.
-
So I was looking around the US forums and saw quite a few posts on how people are planning to fit IOs into their builds - things like toggleless tanks. Just wondered what people over here are thinking? Are you planning major changes? Will IOs make a big difference to your current build? Will tanks start gaining some of our former glory.
Personally I was excited at first, then not so much when I took a closer look at the available sets. Then I spent a while with Mids excellent hero planner and I'm quite excited again. -
Plus most of the sets add endred to powers that may not have been slotted for them previously...
-
Only have Stamina on one toon and that's my stone tank and that's only because I don't play perma GA and need to run loads of armour toggles all the time. No problems at all on my Dark/Rad defender. My Fire/TA troller can be tricky in long fights but I have conserve power anyway and a healthy supply of CABs. Currently leveling a Plant/Fire Dom who does have issues but I've not yet even begun to slot endred in the powers and have Consume coming in a few levels.
Many characters can run perfectly fine and efficiently without Stamina but that is of course just my opinion. -
It's pretty much what every stone tank does although most keep Rock and some keep Minerals for other occasions.
I think CJ turns off GA from what I remember. -
I skipped it on mine as I prefered staying at range. Plus I went without Stamina so couldn't really run it all the time.
Don't skip Smoke - combined with Flash Arrow you become invisible to mobs. Great for stealthing mish or fighting two very close together groups. -

Accuracy is soft capped at 95%. For most attacks against even con mobs base acc is 75%. 75% + 1x33%SO > 95%.

Shouldn't that be 0.75*(1+0.33)?
And Tyl, considered getting glasses or contact lenses for your chars?
