  1. I didn't recommend that Gigabyte motherboard. It just sounded like someone thought you were "misinformed/crazy" when you asked if the SSD attaches directly to the motherboard so I was just pointing one out with a mSATA connector for SSD to show such a thing exist.

That Asus motherboard is just fine, sorry for the confusion.
  2. They announced that they are scheduled to do maintenance on the forums Thursday.

Wonder if the NCSoft's crack IT department thought it was scheduled to start Thursday relative to Korea?
  3. The Japanese live action Death Note is a two part movie that simplified the plot some.

Will this allow me to overclock a little and possibly expand into an SLI configuration later? Im thinking about utilzing an old 32" HDTV as a monitor at some point and have heard that SLI will work well for this ( how true that is I do not know )
Yes to both questions. Actually it'll probably allow you to overclock it a lot, at least to 4GHz.

Will this board allow me to utilize a small SSD ( 32 -64 gigs ) on the motherboard to use as a cache to boot up Windows and CoH faster ?? does this attach directly to the motherboard or does it go to one of the hard drive bays ??
On that motherboard you would connect it up normally and specify in the Intel driver to pair the SSD (or portion of) to a specific hard drive. I'm only aware of this Gigabyte motherboard that has a mSATA connector to mount an mSATA SSD directly on the motherboard. Intel probably has one or more as well. Any Z68 motherboard can support Intel's SRT (Smart Response Technology) SSD caching feature.

Which SSD should I choose. I have looked at Corsair and they seem to make pretty decent stuff. I am going with their 500r case and I like their modular power supplies as well.
Well, not sure how much it really matters if you are planning to use it as an SRT cache other than a recent one. Taking a stab at it I kind of like the 64GB Crucial M4 but the 60GB OCZ Agility 3 is being heavily discounted at NewEgg right now. Personally I think there are just too many variants (see OCZ) to keep up with. I remember seeing a recent review of small SSDs. Edit: Here

Will this work Wirelessly from the MB or will I need to get some type of wireless USB device.. right now my PC is wired into my router but the router is wireless and when we ge ta bigger apartment I want the ability to move my PC where ever I want...
No wireless 802.11 network, you will need to buy a card that compatible with the wireless standard of your router, but it does come with Bluetooth for those types of wireless devices.

Do I need a cooler for the motherboard.. I will run my PC for hours of gaming.. should I get one.. I prefer non liquid and as QUIET as possible. The Noctua, Thermaltakes and the Coolermaster Hyper 212 seem to be the most popular.. Do I even need one of these..
Motherboards don't really need coolers but CPUs do. The cooler that comes with the i5-2500K is minimal. It'll do the job but it's woefully inadequate if you are looking to overclock. The Hyper 212 Evo is a very nice, fairly inexpensive CPU cooler that can knock 15 degrees Celsius off of the CPU temperature over the stock cooler.
  5. I'm more interested in the Death Note adaptation. Bleach suffers from the same problem as GI Joe, Transformers, Dragonball, A:tLAB and X-Men, too many fan favorite characters/moments/mecha that someone would try to stick too much of it into a too short of a film.

Death Note is both easier in concept (write in book, person dies) and overall plot (Light Vs L). I've been following Bleach on AS and just got to episode 240 something. Trying to explain the series and the huge cast of characters to someone who never seen it is nigh impossible to do with glossing over a whole lot.
  6. It's starting to remind of the ol' pull start lawnmower in my youth. I think it took 7 reloads to get this thread to come up.
  7. Exit the game, exit the launcher. Make sure that both the game and NCLauncher isn't running by checking the processes in the task manager. If neither are running then start the launcher up again but don't run the game, just download it.
  8. Well I give a thumbs up on the Studio Ghibli adaptation of the classic story The Borrowers that started last Friday, The Secret World of Arrietty. Even though it's not directed by Hayao Miyazaki, he did help write the adaptation.

Of course all the diehard Ghibli fans have seen it already but for those who haven't yet, it's good. Not as great as Totoro or Kiki IMO but still very enjoyable.
  9. Actually I think super packs may actually improve the sale of standalone consumables because you end up trying them, since they get dropped on you, and players may now consider spending points on them now that they see their usefulness where before a player my have been hesitant to spend the points on X of something when they didn't know its usefulness.
  10. I didn't have a problem with Rick and Company returning the next morning for all the reasons Dark mentioned. Its just the seemingly sudden nightfall in both Rick's and Lori's plots.
  11. Well considering the Black Wolf Pet has a 1 in 333 chance (Zwill's tables) and that there is only on average 0.79 Very Rare cards per pack (ParagonWiki based on Arcanaville's Beta test) that there is only a 50% chance after opening roughly 290 packs (230 very rare cards).

Of course as you get the three VR costume pieces the odds change significantly to 1 in 192. At that point you have a 50% chance in only 168 packs (133 very rare cards).
  12. Something I forgot to mention last week. I'm not sure if it was a local commercial or a national one but during The Walking Dead first showing I saw an ad for this.
  13. Back then it was simply getting the game out, level 50 was always in the cards. Issue 1 bumped it on the CoH side, Issue 7 bumped it on the CoV side.
  14. Yes I mean sun setting. I thought it was still bright in the bar during last weeks encounter with the two guys. Suddenly it's dark outside and they are hiding. Why hang around the place after wasting those two long enough so their friends show up after dark?

Lori hit the walker in broad daylight, which doesn't really do a whole lot to the walker, but now it's dark and the walker was polite enough not to attack until Lori was on the verge of waking up, long enough to get dark?
  15. Speaking of ninjitsu, saw this picture earlier today on Reuters. 3000-3500 women in Iran training in ninjitsu?? Does the US have a ninja gap in the Middle East??
  16. Funny, the arena use to sidekick/exemplar way back when.

Thing was Ridia when the Arena was introduced back in Issue 4, along with Japanese schoolgirls, it was very much a rock/paper/scissors game and if you were the scissors to another player's rock, well you lost everytime. Same was true if you were a melee character fighting a ranged character and they had a faster travel power. Team play was better but a team of hovering blasters on an outdoor map Vs a team of earthbound scrappers still would be very one sided. But for me that was OK. I remember fondly playing my Ice Tank to a draw Vs a regen scrapper or sniping with my teleporting energy blaster until I ran out of endurance.

They introduced the PvP zones with CoV came out. That was when casual PvP became a thing of the past and the worst came out in some players. It's all fun and games until you couldn't get to the zone exit because one or more PvP players simply wouldn't let you go from the hospital to the exit without ganking you. Then they complain on the forums that nobody would play with them.

It's also true that after repeated tweaks to powers in PvP Vs PvE, the devs tried to rebalance the whole shebang to the point that the powers were unrecognizable compared to PvE and for those who finally figured out how to equip and play a PvP character suddenly had to start back at the beginning, relearning how to play.

Oh, in that case you can go a bit higher upgrade wise. Something along the lines of an HD 6870, a 550-650 watt PSU and a 3.6GHz Phenom II X4 975. Optionally you could go with the lower power, less expensive 3.0GHz (Turbo to 3.4GHz) Phenom II X4 960T.

I've personally never seen the game go above 1.5GB (using Process Explorer which records the maximum) after several hours of play. Others claim to see it go much higher, higher than I thought possible for a Windows 32-bit program (which is 2GB). That's total memory, the memory it actually needs while doing a mission is a lot less.

I'm just pointing out that DDR2 is a dead end, that this will be the last motherboard you will be using it in while the video card, power supply and even an upgraded CPU could be moved to a rig with a more modern motherboard supporting SATA III, USB 3.0 and DDR3 memory.
  18. Who wants to bet Hershel was a Vietnam war veteran?

Is it me or did it get dark awful quick relative to last episode?

    Upgrading my Rig

    I'm guessing you meant $50-250.

With such a small budget I would recommend what you asked for in the first place, an upgraded PSU that can support a modern video card.

Newchemicals has a pretty nice pick of parts in that regard. While the overall maximum wattage is less than the generic PSU you currently have, the Antec ECO 400C likely has significantly more power available at 12 volts (360 watts). That's important because the two biggest consumers of 12 volts is the CPU and the video card.

Edit: Here is another choice for PSU, Corsair CX430 V2.

Upgrading you CPU is quickly becoming impossible as it appears that the rumors of AMD EOLing (end of life) socket AM3 CPUs for the socket FM1 Fusion CPUs and the socket AM3+ FX series, neither will work in a socket AM2+ motherboard. The cheapest AM3 CPU at NewEgg is the 3.3GHz Athlon II X3 455 for $80. Upgrading the CPU, while 50% faster and has a third core, isn't going to give you anywhere near as much bang as the video card but could be considered as an additional upgrade after the PSU and video card if you have the money. Just don't forget to upgrade the BIOS first before a CPU swap.

As for memory, DDR2 is dead in PCs. You have 4GB and a 64-bit OS, you should be able to live with that just fine. The cost of another 4GB (2GBx2) DDR2-800 (guessing here) is around $50 at NewEgg. It'll buy you zero performance improvement unless you are running so much other stuff while playing you are running out of the 4GB of physical memory you currently have.

    Forgot all about that.

    Fun times. Yeah, fun times.
  21. As for the pointlessness of 3D or overt catering to it in movies, I finally got around to seeing on DVD the mocap/cgi A Christmas Carol from a couple of years ago. Boy did that have scene after scene of pointless in your face 3D (SCTV Count Floyd 3D - OOO, SCARY!) as if the movie was part of a theme park's 3D motion ride.

    Good call.

Smaller of the two theaters, only 12 screens:
    2D - 11:30a, 5p
    3D - 2p, 7:45p, 10:30p

Larger, further away theater with 18 screens:
    2D - 12:45p, 3:15p, 5:45p, 8p
    3D - 11:30a, 2p, 4:30p, 7:15p, 9:45p, 11p, 12:05a

    Those are Sunday's times.

The only other 3D films showing; Journey 2: Mysterious Island also has the same arrangement with only one post 6p 2D showing; SW:PM is 3D only and the bigger theater has two evening showings of Underworld 4 but only in 3D.

    Streaming...

Well localized gating of content due to local moral and social dogmas is expected, sadly.

For instance I wouldn't expect The Walking Dead to be available in mainland China (based on changes to WoW that was mandated by the Government).
  24. Both megaplexs "near" me have GR in both 3D and 2D.
