Marisa went to UCR with the owner of my account, Kristen. I've mentioned many times what a pain in the neck it is for me to purchase things from NCsoft (it sees my IP is from Argentina and instantly rejects everything), so even my account is not at my name; it's thanks to Kristen that I have a COH account at all. I met Marisa and her then-boyfriend in-game back in May 2005, and a few times afterwards, but being in a different server we never stayed in touch.

Nothing special, I just found it funny that I met her when I first got into the game, and I get news about her now that the game's ending. Bookends and all that.

    Best wishes to you two!
Hey Leandro! I certainly remember some early teams with you on Freedom! I may be recalling incorrectly, but had I wondered if you would have been playing at all were it not for my then-boyfriend and I getting Kristen interested in it? Or maybe we all started playing at the same time? Did she ever keep playing? Unfortunately I really lost touch with her after graduating from UCR, but it was cool to hang out with her during lunchtimes .

My then-boyfriend and I tried out the beta on his computer. We'd played Dark Age of Camelot (him a lot, me only a little bit) and this game called A Tale in the Desert, and both were fun but not totally satisfying for me. Minutes after running around punching and zapping things with my very first character, my bubble/electric defender Fatare, I knew I wanted THIS GAME to be MY mmo. So I feel like I got my then-bf into it rather than the other way around (even though it was him showing me the beta, I staked a claim on playing it pretty quick!). If he then got Kristen into it and then enabled you to play indirectly, I will gladly take some credit, haha!

Especially since you've done really cool things for the community as a whole (I was super-excited about the thing you made that took advantage of the rag-doll limb position coding, for example!).

Anyway thanks for the good wishes!

You have no idea how much we tease each other about that . It's going to be a long-running joke for the rest of our lives, ha! Yesterday we got a chance to log on briefly, and Ascendant congratulated me on making "an honest man out of Night-Girl." HAHAHA! Thanks for the grats!!
  2. Marisa/Iris/Fatare here! Liquid's wife... wow, getting used to that word! Thanks for the congratulations!

Just to add to what's been already expressed, City of Heroes was the first MMO that I fell in love with. And Rob was the first person I ever knew I wanted to marry. It was so lucky and amazing that we ever met at all, and I'm certain that we wouldn't have if it hadn't been for this game.

I knew right away that City of Heroes was the game for me, with it's incredible customization and intuitive interface and gameplay design. Really though, it was the spirit of the game -- being a superhero that can fight crime and fly and help other teammates -- that captivated me.

The wonderful community of this game inspired me to do things I wouldn't have otherwise done, like dressing up as my heroes and going to HeroCon.

I also joined my dream supergroup, the Liberty League. The reason I picked them was because I saw that so many of the League members stood out in terms of their passion for the game: Battle Bovine's comics, the Liberty League movie trailer made by The Weevil, Ascendant's phone call monologues, and a ton of well-thought out characters and nice players.

I was thrilled to meet some of my supergroup mates, other players, and the developers (whom I may have gushed over a bit) in person. And of course I was able to meet my now-husband; who before then had been my smart, cool, and very nice female (I thought) supergroup teammate that I could chat about my day with and who always helped me with any mission or question I had (there's a reason he was a finalist in the HeroCon trivia contest).

Zwill, happy anniversary! And to all the developers and staff who made this game possible, thank you. I haven't quite fully accepted the idea of this game going away. It saddens me deeply.

I take comfort in knowing that many of the people (hopefully each and every one of you!) who made this game great will continue to make great games, stories, and communities. Your passion and commitment has really been obvious. Likewise, I hope that the people who make up the passionate, vibrant, and helpful community of players will continue in that spirit. I can't imagine migrating to any other gameĀ… nothing else compares. And I can't imagine having the kind of passion for any other game that I've had for this one. But I will look for you other players and hope for a City of Heroes sequel or revival.

Also, I do have the best souvenir ever from the game, even better than the prizes from the Costume Contest or the screenshots and demorecords, my wonderful husband .
  3. Technically, it was 3 years and one day ago, since we met up the night before.

Before that day I already knew that Liquid was super nice and fun to chat with and be around in-game (and an awesome super-group leader). Still, I was a bit apprehensive to meet him in-person since I barely knew anything about him in "real-life." I told myself that if he turned out to be a weirdo, that I didn't have to hang out with him the whole time.

When I first saw him in the lobby, I just about did a double-take. I certainly wasn't prepared for him to be so cute! And more importantly, he was every bit as nice in person as he always had been in-game. I made sure to hang out with him for the whole con . And I also had a blast! It was awesome to see other people dressed up, hear the devs talk about the game, sing karaoke, and hang out with other players! I think my favorite part was the live mission event, where we teamed with other players to complete challenges. It was so fun!!

And now here I am, sitting next to my wonderful fiance who I would have never met if it hadn't been for City of Heroes. So thank you, Paragon!
  4. Wow! I didn't even know about this contest until today. I'm really honored that I was nominated at all (for my arc "Seeking Men" for Comedy), and very flattered that I tied for 3rd.

The best part of this contest is that I have a huge list of great arcs to play through! Grats to everyone and thanks Bubbawheat for organizing this! Also thank you to Lazarus, who nominated me and who, if I remember correctly, must have been one of the first people to leave me feedback or even play my arc.

And thank you, Liquid, for telling me that I won a contest that I didn't even know about!

    That made my day.
  5. Thank you for being such a nice person, Alex, inside and outside the game and forums. I'll never forget how welcome you made me feel at the Pocket D party and the Comic-Con booth. It was also awesome to see you again at Hero-Con. I hope that you have wonderful times in your future adventures!

    Thanks again!

  6. Whoa! I can't believe I missed this! Sorry for the necro-post, but yay! Thanks for another great issue, Sparky! My favorite part was his inability to blast due to being in CoV.

This makes alot of sense, but what would it mean in terms of new features in I11?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Rikti Homeworld!

With the newspaper story being how it all began!

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a really cool idea. My friend came up with the thought (that other people also posted!) that this is a world at least without the Rikti War, but there is a problem with either theory:

The WAR WALLS appear in many of the newspaper pics. If I remember correctly, the only reason for the walls to exist in the first place is the Rikti Invasion.

I still can't help but think that the newspaper dimension has something going on with the Rikti, but I can't think of anything that hasn't been said to support it.

The Nemesis theories are also VERY interesting, and here's another thought: Anyone think the newspaper mistakes seem too obvious? Think it's a possible code?

So far, we have the mistake with WINDOW - WIDOW = N.
Also: VIGILANTE when it should be VIGILANT = E
The only other mistakes I found are run together words: "ZonesSome" and "theyare". Perhaps they are just typos after all, but hiding a code like this is one of the oldest tricks in the book. If I had more time, I'd check all the contact names for mistakes!

Currently, our plan is to enable the Character Transfer service with no limitations. There will be no restrictions on which of the live servers you can or cannot transfer too.

Our main goal with the Character Transfer service is to enable customers to play on the server they want to with the character they want to with their friends.

  9. As I was watching Burn Notice, I realized who should play Sparky in the movie. With apologies to both Sparky and Jeffrey Donovan, here is the result! *hides*
  10. Spectacular!!

Lots of action in these! And cameos! Oh and the signature heroes and villains, and pirates, and ninjas, and... wow, how do you fit it all in!?

Thanks for keeping up the comic, I enjoyed every panel (hee, especially the one with Marisa posing with the bad guys )!

Cool, but it kills me to see those "blocked out" room sections, especially on your 5x5 TP room. I'd kill to have that space on my 2-person supergroup (can have the SPACE, but can't afford 5x5 TP room and equipment to run it)!
  13. Thank you Sparky!! Putting Marisa in your comic is one of the nicest things (if not the nicest) a fellow CoH player has ever done for me!

And just to let everyone know, I didn't even ask Sparky to do it. I mobbed him on the test server one day for a picture. Also, he posted the comic before my character's costume was posted in the contest, so I'm just a random character he decided to put in. Thanks again, Sparky, you're the best!

P.S. This issue was awesome (and not just because I got in it)!

Congrats to Marisa, the overall winner! She's from the same city as myself, and I love her much for representing Riversidians everywhere!

    How do you feel?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I feel great! Thanks! I was really surprised; there were many awesome entries.

Avonlea, it's actually the Translucent cape on my costume, not the insect one. My main hero Fatare uses the insect one though, maybe I'll try it someday! By the way, great job on your costume (as always)!

An additional tidbit: I entered the first Halloween costume contest with Fatare's pre-cape outfit. I didn't have time to make a costume last year, so I was happy just to be able to enter this year. Thanks again, Cryptic, NCSoft, Djundi (photographer and invaluable assistant), and fellow players who make the game a joy to play (especially the Liberty League!)

    Ok, ok! Anyway, thanks!
  15. Yay! Small victory for Flight! According to latest patch Notes, flight has no Accuracy debuff anymore .

    [ QUOTE ]
"Powers: Removed ToHit penalty from Super Speed, Super Leap, Fly and Peacebringer Fly." ...
If you attack a target while you have Flight on, you will be reduced to Hover flight speed for 4 seconds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Woot! This seems to work pretty well, too, the 4 seconds is long enough to gracefully switch to Hover if needed, and short enough to keep on flying right after an attack. It's too big of an endurance drain to really use much in battle, but yesterday as I was chasing a fleeing Spirit of Death it really came in handy that I could give chase without having to worry about the accuracy penalty. Before, by the time I could switch to Hover to hit a fleeing enemy, they were either out of range or already attacking me again.

Ah, and thanks for the analysis of the whole "holding down the up key to go faster" thing. I figured it could have been a trick of perspective that made it seem to go faster, but I wasn't sure and never had time to test it myself.

One thing though, I haven't seen an answer to my other question about whether the Kheldian fly is faster than the regular fly. Just curious, I'm nowhere near level 50 so I have no clue. Thanks!

Are you sure flight SOs are only worth 15%? I've never heard that number before.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It seems flight SOs are worth 166.5% (5x33.3%) since they affect Hover by that much. Flight appears to be hover with a built in 1000%-ish speed boost (for a total of 11x hover speed). Adding a SO will bring that to 1166.7% (12.7x hover) which isn't all that noticable. At least, those are the results I got when I tested fly and hover at level 32.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow... that's an interesting theory. That might explain why the Enhancements do less enhancing than for other travel powers.

Something I've noticed is that when holding up (jump) and flying forward you actually can go noticably faster. This is annoying as I find myself holding the button down to get that extra speed. Plus then my view is not quite right: I have to point my nose down a bit to go straight, but it does get me there faster. Can anyone else confirm this?

Also, a question out of curiosity: What is the comparison for the fly possesed by Kheldians? Is it identical? I don't have a Kheldian so I have no idea, but in squidy form they seem to fly quite fast.

My personal feelings about fly: I love flying! CoH is the first game to satiate my desire to fly. However, I really just wish they hadn't punished it quite so much. I feel guilty with fly travelling to missions with a team. I don't want to feel guilty about having a power I love so. Especially since it doesn't make much in-game sense. The acc debuff from moving quickly... ok. But why no defense buff? You're flying and harder to hit with hover, right? What's the "in-game" reason for NOT being harder to hit with fly as well? I would think it'd be much easier to hit heroes who were hovering, since evn when they are moving, they're practically standing still . Or why the slow speeds: all the flying superheroes I've known of outside the game were "super" fast! Like others have mentioned, I don't mind most of the drawbacks associated with fly. But all together they really subtract from it. And I don't think I can afford to fully slot it out (4 flight speed, 1 or 2 end redux) to make it better.

Oh why must I love it so!
  17. I totally don't mind losing to the great entries that were chosen (and more!). It was reward in itself to make the costume and walk in public as my hero for a bit. You guys did an excellent job! And a special thank you to my boyfriend (Djundi on Freedom), who helped me a great deal with the sewing and taping and dying my hair purple (though it didn't show up in the pic very well) and finally strapping me into the thing when it was all done!
