Just played #459581, Kill or Cure by @Samuraiko
I have to rush through this review (getting family breakfast time aggro) I'll try to write something up that's more comprehensive later.
Overall, I enjoyed the story, and how it progressed. I ran it with my MA/SR incarnate scrapper at baseline difficulty, and it was no problem. That's good for me, since I was in it for the story, and not a combat experience. I was able to stealth past many intervening mobs, since this was largely a detective style clue gathering experience.
That was a good experience, overall.
I'll present some nitpicks. I believe the objective chaining in the final mission.
(SPOILER...)
I encountered the defeated and dying Viviane at the front of the mission, on defeating the Rikti around her, the text implied I had cured her and I then escorted her to the front.
I still had a goal to stop Dissolution from opening the portal, I assumed that Viv had set something in motion and I had to stop it. In the final room, I found Dissolution, still virus-striken and ready to open a portal to invade the Rikti homeworld with death. I defeated her, and the text clues implied that I should then cure her. I believe her defeat should have spawned the hostage/escort version of her.
One other thing, in the Nemesis weather station mission, one objective was "Hear Dissolution's recorded message." (It was something like that.) I think a better clue would have been to generically imply that I needed to track down Dissolution. I went into the mission vaguely assuming that she would be on the map, and the mission goal removed that ambiguity by giving me advance knowledge that she had left me a recorded message.
I enjoyed the arc, I'd play it again with some other of my characters. -
I am in AE right now, and will use this thread to recommend arcs I'll play. Feedback to come.
Thanks for setting this thread up. -

I was in a hurry when I posted this thread yesterday, here are some details I would have liked to have included.
I'd appreciate feedback on this story focused mission arc.
There are four missions, none play very long. The final two are timed, but in my opinion, the timer only matters in one mission (the final one.)
Most of the opponents are custom enemies, but I don't believe they are overpowered.
I will caution you that the initial mission objectives are deliberately vague, I'm keen to get feedback on that.
I don't know if I can explain the mission setup any more, other than to say you are contacted by an old alien whose language translator is unreliable.
And that there is a planet, and it is probably going to explode. -
I was in a hurry yesterday when I posted this (obviously, since I messed up the arc number in the title), here are more details.
I'd appreciate feedback for this story-focused heroic arc.
Five missions, none play very long. All but two of the settings are 45-50, so it's intended for higher level characters. Nothing is timed.
Basically, Gordon Stacy is flashing the [insert your chest insignia] sign over Kings Row. What appears to be a gang war is escalating as the Family is moving in, and Kings Row PD resources are stretched to the limit. Stacy could use your help. -
Quote:Gah, I had the arc number wrong in the title of the thread. Hopefully I just corrected it with this posting. The correct number is 144416Within a recent thread, I was impressed by a reviewer's detailed review of an AE arc in question, I requested they review some of my arcs, and they asked if I had forum threads for them. I didn't, but now I do.
I'd appreciate a review of arc #144416, Shadow of Grime Alley.
Best regards. -

I'd appreciate a review of arc #200411, Exploding Planet.

Quote:D_G, I don't have threads, Exploding Planet's has been mentioned in ArrowRose's excellent arc thread, but I've never specifically set up a thread for them.If I have the time I'll run them, but I'm at a pretty busy spot this week. Do you have threads posted for them on the forum somewhere?
I'll correct that now. Thank you for suggesting that.
No worries on hitting them this week, or anytime in the near future, I'd rather you approach them at your leisure, for fun.
Regardless, I appreciate your feedback.
Best regards, -
Quote:That's quite a comprehensive review D_G. I'd be honored if you'd look at two of my arcs, #200411, Exploding Planet, and #144416, Shadow of Grime Alley. You have excellent insights.
Okay, I think that's everything I had for notes. I don't want you to think I'm ripping into you or anything; I'm just trying to be honest and give you the feedback that I think would help someone like me (whoever that is, out there) enjoy your arc, and maybe make it a generally awesome arc that all the AE players out there would like to play.
Good luck with any future changes you make, and if you do make some, be sure to post about them here so people can have a heads up and know to give your arc another whirl.
Best regards, -
Just finished up your arc. I sent you some comments ingame via the Architect comment form, I'll elaborate here.
SPOILERS for those who want to run the arc... read no more...
SPOILERS>.......................
There's a few typos, for example, the contact is not mearly a guide, he should be merely a guide.
The custom chars look great, I mean really great, but I was sad to see there were no descriptions.
In mission 1, I defeated Drop Dead before the ancient text told me to, and after I found the ancient text, I had to destroy all those cars and trucks, to draw out Drop Dead, who I had already dropped. You might want to redesign how you want that to flow.
Mission 2 made me nervous as a defeat all, but that map is small. Crass though, had a clue with no text.
Also, there was some clue that said "must tell that to Sayamta" (I am probably misremembering the name, it's something like that) but that character was never in the arc.
Mission 3: kicked ***, especially with the "submission" character.
Mission 4: was very very busy with so many objectives. I didn't mind, it just scared me since there was a timer. I'd recommend the contact stress the timed nature of the mission.
Mission 5 seemed light on supporting text. I'd suggest some clues.
Great arc though. -
Quote:I'll start it right now...I just finished a new arc and wanted to see if someone would be willing to run it and let me know what they think. It's a dark horror arc. Don't want to give away much of the storyline. It's designed to be a challenge so consider that when setting your dif settings. Some custom enemy bosses won't spawn below x3, so you might not see everything with small mob counts. It's 5 missions, level 1 -54, custom enemy groups, and AVs if you so choose to fight them instead of as EBs. The arc is called "Behind The Veiled Mask", Arc # is 526759. I really appreciate it. Any feedback on anything to adjust or change would be awesome.
best regards, -
Quote:I sent you comments, but I'll paraphrase them here. Thanks all. I will take the advice, dive into the story a bit, and go from there.
Ran your mission with my level 50 incarnated scrapper, so Savoy was not too tough.
Enjoyed the look of the custom enemies, would like a bit more backstory (for example, upon finding the book), and I'd recommend giving a background description to the contact as well.
Again, thought the enemies looked great , good dialogue, the mission elements went off well.
I think in my comments to you, I suggested you run arc #144416, Shadow of Grime Alley, and send feedback.
If you like that one, my favorite is 200411, Exploding Planet. But full-disclosure, the planet often explodes in the final mission.
Best regards, -
Just ran the arc. Really enjoyed it.
I appreciated that beyond the straightforward objectives, there were lots of things that generated clues which provided additional detail for depth.
Big fan of the dialogue, especially from the final mission bosses.
Thanks for putting out a great arc.
best regards, -
Inspired by the recent Dr. Doom/Evil Genius thread, are there any mission arcs that you enjoy that are well suited for a Batman-like character?
I'm not asking for blatant infringing arcs, but arcs that have a similar feel to the late 1970s, early 1980s Batman comics (post campy Biff/Pow, pre-brooding Dark Knight).
During those years, Batman had a lot of classic run ins with Ra's al Ghul and his assassins, the mysterious machinations of the Spook, the return of Hugo Strange (and his zombies), etc.
I'd suggest my arc #144416, Shadow of Grime Alley, as something that I'm looking for (forgive my self-promotion.)
Best regards, -
Quote:I can confirm that taking a pre-25 character to Ouro, talking to Pilgrim will get the I have nothing speech as if you had done his arc.I believe there could also be some issue with the Pilgrim and the lower Ouro entry level. I cannot confirm this personally, but I seem to recall hearing that even though the entry level is now 14, the Pilgrim still won't give out his arc until 25. If this is the case, I can also guess that the only 'I have nothing for you' speech the Pilgrim has is the one for being done with the arc - because before the entry change, that was the only way he could have nothing for you (arc can't be over leveled, and there was no need for a too low speech due to the entry requirement).
Of course, I could be 100% wrong, in which case, a petition certainly won't hurt.
I can confirm that returning to him once you are level 25 will get you his arc. -

Quote:That was killing me the other day.By the way, you guys who have custom critters that are invalidated by the filter: you must change the critter file save name also.
I don't know if my AE arc #200411, Exploding Planet is flagged as unplayable or not, but yesterday I planned on doing some edits, and on going in, saw the tons of cryptic errors informing me that nearly all my enemy groups (with names I considered generic, like Alien Androids and Xenophobic Zealots) were invalid due to profanity/copyright filtering. I tried renaming Xenophobic Zealots (who happen to be zealous xenophobes) and all my names were failing until I changed the Save Path. That thing that no one normally sees. Really?!?
Thanks for having this thread on the forums, I had no idea what was going on. -
Quote:For what it's worth, I've always felt that light form should turn the character I had designed more or less transparent, with a glowing aura. This fits my concept better as well. It's funny but I always had a character background twist with my human-form only Peacebringer that in effect rationalized why she would never use Dwarf or Nova form to alter her basic human body. Using the Light Form power and changing into a big wisp was therefore always something that was technically a "bad side effect" as far as my character concept goes. This I21 change that preserves the human form for Peacebringers using Light Form actually fits my particular character better than changing into a wisp. *shrugs*
I feel for those who are unhappy with the change, but I am happy with the new look. -
Quote::-)Well yours truly did, I saw this message "Giant octopus sighted in Independence Port". I then sprinted and engaged the octopus solo. I forget what level I was..umm 30 something? It hit me so hard, I felt it in rl.
Ah, Lusca.
I guess seeing the giant monsters can be considered an event.
I think what was being said about Independence Port, it's so freaking huge, people don't like just zipping around it. I don't even know if its the target of Rikti raids or zombies.
I'm pretty sure no one would try to deal with the Apocalypse event banners, if they even happen there, since the timer would probably run out just flying from one banner to the other.
(But I do love Independence Port during the Winter event, just zipping around getting xmas presents and crushing the snowmen that get left behind by lazyheads.)
It'd be nice if more people had an incentive to take on Lusca. I usually enjoy the fight, but after you get the badge, the 2 reward merit payoff for defeating her just isn't enough to get people excited in teaming up to take her down.
You can usually find a lonely Lusca, waving tentacles at one part of IP or another.
Maybe one day, Lusca will drop a unique tip mission, like the Halloween event sometimes does. -
Quote:I appreciate what you are suggesting, but I don't think that'll happen, unless the leader is specifically advertising something that is going to take a longer time than usual (like an Imperious Task Force where absolutely positively every enemy must be defeated before anyone leaves a map) or an optimized fast run (like a fast Katie TF.)
The vast majority of broadcasts I see are xxx forming pst. I just think it would be more useful (to me at least) if they had a shorthand (I know typing can get old) so folks know a lilttle before "jumping in". All these things can be clarrified after a team forms, but having in the past joined a team I didn't "fit" into, I wish I had more information before joining.
Just my 2 inf.
One reason, there's no guarantee how long most things will be. I might advertise that I expect to be running hero tips for the next hour. A team fills up, we do one mission, and then I draw tremendous unexpected wife aggro. I'm out, and I'll feel bad that I'm abandoning the team.
So, I'm more likely to just advertise that I'm forming a hero tip team. People will join, we get a mission in, and I get that spouse aggro. I still feel bad that I'm abandoning the team, but people usually understand that life happens, and I didn't promise them any specific time.
I do agree that if I advertise for an ITF, and I don't mention that I want to farm the hell out of every mob for shards going in, you might expect that an ITF would take an hour, and be miffed that 30 minutes in, we're not near halfway done. I agree that in that case, I should have advertised that fact up front, and in general, when I get on a team, if I know I have time constraints, I let the leader know.
This isn't that big a deal with PUGS, of course, but your suggestion is very broad and not specific to just task forces. -
Quote:Thanks for expanding on that. I couldn't remember more in depth details, other than the usual Giant Monster code that gets used.Let's explain this in detail since these two posts kind of gloss things over.
In this game, when a foe is "level-less" That means it's ToHit and Damage values are scaled to whoever it is attacking, and vice versa.
BUT
Every one of these foes has a hidden level, or the level values it's base attributes are taken from. This affects things like damage resistance, defense, hit points, etc, and these values DO NOT scale.
I seem to remember that there is some balancing factor in play, to actually help players who are lower in level than the hidden event mob level, but I didn't even want to try and bring that up.
The bottom line for the OP is not to worry about participating in the events. -
Quote:Je Saist is right, you might be just hitting a dry spell.random is random.
Tips are not bound to any set number of kills or enemies.
Tips drop randomly.
Random is Random.
You may as well confirm that you don't already have 3 tips, or that your fame rating isn't full.
I have always thought that tips don't drop from enemies under level 20, but I think my level 50 got a tip while exemplared in a level 11 Frostfire mission, so I'm probably wrong.
Best regards on breaking the streak soon. -
Quote:In general, if a team is just doing missions, then you might see missions knocked out in 10 minutes, some up to 20 minutes. Some arc finales can run long. If you're just PUGing, then people will understand if the mission is running long and you need to cut out.Being a new player, I do not understand some common abreviations used on the open chat channels (I refer to the game specfic ones). Is there a place I can look these up? If not, can folks please post a few common ones here?
For team invites: It would be helpful to know recommended minimum lvl range (for powers), Hero (b)/Villian(r?)/Praetorian(g), and apx. time to finish assuming a full team.
A suggestion may be to add this info as standard shorthand in-game so folks (like me) can make logical choices on PUGs. If this already exists, I haven't seen it.
If someone is advertising for a Task Force, usually there is a minimum level, and they should be able to answer your question on how long they expect it to run. Sometimes, people are advertising for a speedy-run TF so they'll give you an idea up front.
Don't be afraid of getting on a higher level team. I have happily had 7 teammates under level 6 on level 50 hero tip missions on Atlas (I don't bump up the difficulty though in that case...) As long as people contribute and have fun, there's no problems. At level 50, I don't worry about getting defeated, and if anyone does faceplant, the hospital is a very short trip in Atlas. -
Quote:Good question.Thank you. I'll try that.
Do you know the dynamics of the mobs? If a lvl 50 pops in a 20s zone, does the mob levels change? What if the 50 is going to Wentworth's?
In zone events like Rikti invasions and Zombie attacks, the enemies are coded to not have levels, the to hit calculations and damage dealt are figured as if they were even level to whomever is damaging them, or who they are damaging, etc.
