not entirely. Dont have to use their search engine, youtube, facebook, G+, their chat sites, email system, and anything else that google directly controls.

That is why I check the policies on everything and if it's look solid, I'll go. If it looks fishy, then I walk. Google looks fishy to me so I avoid them as much as possible. Google owns alot of things but they dont own the internet.
  3. Now if we was say to invest $1000 or more to get this thing going, what are the perks and or returns?
  4. Well someone DID actually ask this time.

Knock on the devil's door and eventually someone might answer.
  5. Mercedes Lackey, a fantasy fiction writer.

Oh no wonder I never heard of her. Dont do the fantasy stuff.

Well how is it going with her? I see what Gangrel is saying though. Popularity do not over rule facts in my book. They might be famous but in the end of the day they are just another person. Meaning, just because they are famous doesnt automatically mean they are right about everything.

Off subject a little: Which is I never gotten statement like "I'm have a PHD and I'm a medical doctor and I think the Cadillac is a fine car." I mean, what the hell do being a doctor has to do with anything? It's good that you are a professional on the human body but doesnt all of a sudden make you an expert on vehicles. Just saying. Just say you think a Cadillac is a good car. The title/degree/profession/fame that has nothing to do with subject at hand adds no weight to it.

When things get tough you work with what you've got and hopefully learn to be grateful for it. And I'm grateful for Mercedes Lackey.

Lackey has also openly, publicly made statements about how devastating this has been for her and how her involvement has created more stress for her, not less; and yet she has continued to stay involved and go to bat for us. I don't personally know Mrs. Lackey, but when I see people slamming her for CONTINUING to do what other people in her shoes may have quit doing by now (feeding news to an ungrateful audience despite having Paragon's trust), it only makes me respect her more and more.

At least she has plenty of support on the Titan forums, where people are apparently not living under a rock for the past three weeks.
Not trolling or anytthing I'm more serious than a gun in someone's face.

Who the heezies is Mercedes Lackey? Must be important to be the best chance we have?

And really I dont trust people just because someone else trust them. I trust them, because I trust them. There are some pretty powerful successful folks that trust Rick Perry but I and some other people wouldnt trust him with a rubberband.

You've heard the reports that representatives of Paragon Studios have been in negotiations/conversations with NCSoft and those talks continue.
That's all good. That's all worthy. And it's simply not over yet.

    .
Just wish there was more press coverage. I mean there is plenty of coverage among the groups and sites that already kew about COH and probably played at one point or another but that is like preaching to the choir about being in church that particular day. They are already there and wont help more people notice what's going on if the press coverage stays in house. We need to egt it somehow out of the house and out of the normal community.

In an IRL world, where profiteering and stabbing people in the back is not only normal, but in many cases, encouraged, CoH has granted us a radiant sun in which the best part of our psyche has a chance to grow and flourish.

No, many of us don't run into burning buildings and save people. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't. That you view heroes as such implies that you don't pay much attention to what those heroes say in interviews afterward. The typical response is something to the effect of, "I was just in the right place at the right time and I did what I needed to do." That is often the defining factor. Not many of us get to walk down the street, see a crime getting committed, or a building about to collapse, to be given the opportunity to risk life and limb and do something heroic. But who are you to decide who does or doesn't have that in their heart? To say, "If you were like that, you'd be out doing it", is just silly. There are heroes out there who will never get recognized, because random chance will never grant them that critical moment to spring into action. And even then, have you taken a census? Do you know who on these forums is a peacekeeper in a warzone, a firefighter, an EMT, a lawyer trying to help someone keep their home, or a street-tough kid who stood up for the class wimp while he was being threatened by bullies? I didn't think so.

But I know this. I've never seen a more solid gaming community than I do here. A lot of blood families won't even pull for each other the way we do here. Charities have been raised as a result of this game, and even in this dark hour that spirit of giving has lived on, and is still helping people when they need it. And say what you want about whether or not risk of life is required to be a hero. But even generosity, in this morally bedridden society that we're all forced to live in every day, takes an aspect of heroism, and that's courage. It takes real courage to do good in a world where Villainy is commonplace.

If TonyV chooses to connect with the brightest corner of our souls in order to inspire and motivate us, what is wrong with that? Calling ourselves heroes doesn't take anything away from our role models, who we still look up to. Many of us will never get the chance to be a hero. But that doesn't mean we don't have the attitude.
While I do in sense agree with Angry_Citizen on some aspect of that TonyV guy, I do agree with you that everyday people can and have been heroes. TonyV's motives seem a little suspect, but hey, if that is what inspires people to help save this game, then more power to him.

And I know for sure this game havent brought otu the best in everybody. Plenty of people with internet gorilla balls running around that would not behave, act like or say 1% of the stuff they get away with on here because they are tucked and safe behind the screen. On the other hand, some people who were not socialable in person probably found it easy to be socialble here .Some people that didnt knwo how to make friends in the outside world found it easy to make friends here. Some people who might have even been social rejects, find it easy to finally be te most popular guy around on here. The community thing I think probably helped alot of people and I hope those reasons are the ultimate goal of saving this game. Although people have various reasons for saving this game and none are wrong. Some people want to just continue to be able to play and damn the community. Some people dont care what game is created as long as the community there. Some people want both some wants neither and have different reason. I just hope that some people can see beyond the differences and realize that they might just want the same thing in one fashion or another. Even though some will not accept COH incarnate and nothing less while some people want something COH like. Those are the goals, now how do we get there? That is the ten million dollar question.
  10. I wouldnt mind a different market myself. Like one where players can post their items and set a price, and another player can come and buy an item that fit's the price they want to pay for that item compared to the other's listed instead of this chance blind auction thing. Aka instead of guesing a pice and hope you win, you come into the market and click and see say, "4 items listed, one person want $, and another want $.$, and nother want half of a $, and the last want $$$$." Then you can choose right then and there which item you want to pay for, grab said item, and walk away with said item.

For those that do not know me I am the original, one and only Fansy The Bard. I have been on multiple MMO's and been a guest on Paragon's own brainchild. Hi Positron, Zwillinger, Black Pebble, and even the lurking Avatea. Thank you for getting in touch with me but I am sorry for taking so long to get here, been rather busy with grandpa as now more than ever he needs his pills. I digress.

What's that? The giants? Oh you better believe I whispered in their ears and spread them out throughout the Gaming Universe, I've learned a couple of nifty tricks with various instruments. Don't worry guys, the righteous will always lead the way.

Aside giants, I'll be using what I have at my disposal to help the media get attention and throughout the gamer magazines; i.e Game Informer, Game Zone, MMORPG, JSEG,- I'll see about getting an article for the next month's issue if I can. It's not a for sure thing but I'll also see about getting in touch with Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, and Freddie Wong, amongst others I have on my contact list. I'll also be putting the CoH effort on Twitter, Facebook, G+, and plenty other outlets.

I can't promise a miracle but I won't quit playing my song until I run out of breath. Just remember HORRAH GOOD GUYS and forever GO GO'ing GOOD TEAM!

Rally together in this time of darkness and do not forget there is light in your heart, and with me here I'll keep it polished!

    Sincerely (for the Goodguys!),
    Fansy The ''Famous'' Bard

hey you think you can help to get the cause out to the real media? I figures if they have time to worry about Brit's Spears' facial expression on that show, they might have a spot for us.

I ask because we all know that many games offer a lifetime sub for a substantial fee for quick funding. If another company picks it up, the chances are that they will have less funding after paying NCsoft for the IP and whatever fees it costs to Cryptic for licensing their engine. Then also take into the cost of the "secret project" that Paragon was designing (which seems to have been a follow-up title to CoH). And finally, there is also the cost of the new publisher to create their own studio as well as paying the salary of the new developers and HOPEFULLY the salary to get the Paragon Studios staff back to keep working on the projects.

Knowing that most longtimers have spent numerous thousands over the lifetime of the game, if a new company is able to get everything together, is $1,000 too much for a lifetime subscription knowing what will need to go into letting CoH live on?
Probably not. That sounds like a company that got way over it's head when they aquired some property. Usually lifetime subs break even within a year or year and a half compared to if they was paying month to month the usual $15 or so. With $1000 it would take about 5.5 years to break even compared to if someone paid $15 a month during same time period. And the added risks are, new company, new product, low funds, and in the MMO games like that on average last barely 3 years, many dont make it past 1, and some still dont even make it past beta.

I've read a great many posts over the past 3 weeks both here and over at the Titan forums, and one phrase has stuck firmly in my mind. I don't recall who said it, or in which forum, but the phrase was this :

"To call City of Heroes 'just a game' is the same as saying a family is 'just a group of people'."

People invest a lot of themselves in any hobby or pastime, and if that hobby or pastime is threatened, people will react. Firsthand, I've seen ramblers chain themselves to gates and sit for hours in pouring rain to protest at the closure of a cherished footpath. I've seen angry crowds picketing a football stadium that was threatened with closure (along with termination of the football club). I've even seen mothers carrying toddlers on their shoulders and marching down the high street to protest against the closing of a children's library.

None of those things could be deemed to be 'important' in the big scheme of things - hiking? Sports? Children's books? Why kick up a fuss over things like that?

Because people have feelings. That's what it is to be human. We have emotions, we get attached to things. Other people, pets, sports...virtual worlds...

And remember, the closure of City of Heroes is not simply the switching off of a virtual world of pixellated streets and animated characters, it's also the potential destruction of a community - a community every bit as real as any you might encounter in the material world.

'Community' is not something you can put a price on, or quantify - it's a synergistic entity that transcends such limited descriptions. There is one thing you can say for certain about the CoH community though - its hub, its anchor, is the game itself. And that is what a lot of people are angry/scared/sad about.

It's very easy to say "move on" or "get over it" - but would you say that to those marching mothers? The ones afraid of losing their friendly mother & toddler community along with the library that housed it? It wasn't an addiction to the books that drove them to march in protest - sometimes there's a much wider issue at stake.
    That's kind of deep.

Yet, family is just group of people to me. They die, they die we bury them in two weeks it's like they never died. I guess I'm not emotional like that. Favorite car breaks, I go buy another. TV show get canceled, I watch another. Someone falls ill/injured, I send them a card, may visit them in the hospital if I have time, and when they well it's normal again. They stop making my favorite food/product, I eat other stuff.

One thing I can appreciate is people do standing up what they care for as in itself it answers the question and logic behind, Why didnt they protest when the children library two neighborhoods over got shutdown but since it is their library they act like they care about all libraries. Why are people protesting about one game being shutdown when they didnt blink when other games was being shutdown now they protest as if they are doing it for the whole gaming community. See, people protest what they care for and invest in things that affects them personally. And that is logical enough for reason why people protest one thing but unfazed by the same thing that doesnt affect them. To some this game was like a family, although other games have died to them the other games were about as important as the guy being hacked up with a machete as we speak somewhere in Africa by druglords. No one cares, it doesnt affect them. Some think it would never happen to them. But this game closing touches home for many people and that is reason enough to protest. To me it is just a game, but I joined because there seemed to be enough people with enough sand to protest and fight the odds in the first place and that is rare these days. Too many people just sit back and complain and continue to give money to the entity that ripped them off in the first place and then get mad again when change doesnt happen. If you was giving me 100 a month and I only give you very small back in return and you complain but still continue to give me money, I wouldnt change anything. Why would I? Here, it seems some in the COH is not taking this laying down regardless of the outcome.
Like a rich man who wife dies from a cancer and now all of a sudden he dumps 100 million into the research when if he been giving all along the research wouldnt have been underfunded and his wife could been easily saved.

But it is throwing around ideas of the concept of a new game.

  24. oh that. yes. as a free player, very limited power selection.

Freeform is worth the 15/month sub alone (for me at least). Or just pay about $50 in points I think plus or minus $5 or so, and play for free for 3 1/3rd of a month about and get the investment back, assuming that a person wont catch altitus. As there is only one server and thus two slots.
